Dawn and Darkness On Destiny Island
-Chapter Two-
Riku turned and found himself facing one of the last people
he expected to see.
"Namine?!" he stared at her. "But... I thought..."
"The worlds brought me back," Namine explained. "They
sensed I was needed again. And they gave me something
else. A heart. I'm not a nobody anymore."
Riku started to comment on this, but Namine put a finger
to his lips.
"Shh..." she told him. "Sleep now. You'll feel better in the
morning."
Riku leaned against his favorite tree and was soon fast
asleep.
While Riku slept, Namine took out her sketchpad and begn
to draw, creating pictures of herself and Riku. Weaving
memories of herself through the tapestries of Riku's mind
and heart.
* * * * *
The next morning, Riku was awakened by a gentle kiss
from Namine.
"Good morning," she smiled. "Did you sleep well?"
"What am I doing here?" Riku asked, confused.
"We were watching the stars together," Namine explained,
"and you fell asleep."
"Oh," Riku said, sheepishly. "Sorry."
"You started to ask me something last night, but you fell
asleep. I think you dozed off on purpose because you're
too scared to ask me. So I'll ask you instead." She took
Riku's hand in her own and gazed into his eyes. "Will you
marry me?"
Riku nodded and whispered, "yes."
Sora ran up to them. "Riku," he began. "About my engagement
to Kairi..."
"You and Kairi are engaged?!" Riku exclaimed, clasping Sora's
shoulders. "Congratulations! Namine and I are getting married,
too."
Sora blinked, then realized what had taken place. "I'm happy for
you, Riku." he said.
"I'll go tell Kairi," Namine laughed. "You two stay here and talk."
* * * * *
Kairi looked up from the book she'd been reading as the shadow
passed over her.
"Namine?!"
Namine smiled. "I used to be your nobody. But that's changed now.
The worlds gave me a new life and a new heart."
"I'm glad," Kairi smiled.
"There's more," Namine told her. "I gave Riku a new memory. As
far as he knows, he and I have been in love since childhood."
"Why would you do such a thing?" Kairi asked.
"Riku tried to kill himself yesterday," Namine explained, "because
his heart was broken. I took away that pain."
"Thank you," Kairi said.
