Dawn and Darkness On Destiny Island

-Chapter Seven-

"Aren't you going to eat your breakfast?" Riku's
mother asked the next morning.

Riku, who had been toying listlessly with his food,
put his fork down and pushed his plate away.

His mother knew, of course, about the coma. But not
about it's cause. She did know, however, that there was
something wrong with her son. She sat down next to
him. "Maybe you should tell me what's wrong."

Riku stood up and walked away.

His father put down the paper he'd been reading and
followed Riku outside.

"We need to talk," he said, firmly.

"There's nothing to talk about," Riku replied.

"Yes, there is," his father insisted. "You've hardly
touched your food since you came out of that coma.
Now, I want to know what happened to you."

Riku told him.

"I wonder where Riku is," Sora remarked that afternoon
as they watched the waves off in the distance. "I thought
he was going to meet us here."

"It's not like him to ditch his friends," Kairi added. "Maybe
he's sick."

"I'll go see," Namine offered.

She was about to leave when Riku arrived.

"Sorry I'm late," he apologized. "My dad locked me in my
room."

"Why?" Sora wanted to know.

"I told him about the assault," Riku explained, "and he got
a little overprotective. I snuck out the window."

"Your dad's gonna have a conniption when he finds out
you're gone," Namine warned.

"He'll get over it." Riku shrugged.

"Let's head over to Heart and Sole," Kairi suggested. "I'm
looking forward to some fish and chips."

"Kairi's got a crush on Axel," Namine teased.

"I do not!" Kairi exclaimed.

They were still laughing when Riku's father stormed up.

"Riku!" he hollered. "Get back to the house! Right now!"

"I'm having lunch with my friends," Riku argued.

"Your friends," his father said the word with a voice
full of contempt, "got you raped. I don't want you
hanging around with them any more."

"It was my friends who brought me out of my coma,"
Riku told his father. "If it wasn't for Axel and Namine,
I'd still be in the hospital right now. So don't you dare
say anything against them!"

"A coma caused by their meddling in affairs they had
no business interfering with." His father accused. "Now,
get back home and stay there."

Riku said nothing for a moment. Then he looked his
father in the eye.

"No," he said, firmly.

"Fine," his father growled. "I've done all I can to protect
you. Don't come crying to me when you get hurt again. In
fact, don't bother coming home at all." he turned and walked
away.
