Chapter Seven: “We're trying to help… but you won't help yourself.”

 

It was around lunchtime. Shinobu had to visit the nurse twice after her first and was sent home. Kaolla volunteered to show everyone around the school. Mutsumi, Mitsune, Motoko Naru and Shinobu were going to see a doctor, but they couldn't afford a fancy one so they went to the next best thing. This doctor was completely hopeless and not exactly the role model of a healthy doctor. He was examining Naru.

“Let's see. You have a stomach bug. It's rather contagious but it'll past quickly.” He said.

“Shinobu here is sufferin' somethin' similar.” Mitsune said.

“As I said, it is highly contagious. It's the same.” He said. Everyone thought `Okay,' they paid and went off.

“So, just a bug. Just don't give it to me alright.” Motoko said.

“We'll try.” Naru said smiling. “Hey, lets go home and see if there is any news on that rapist Kai.” She said. She then ran off home. Hearing Naru say that made Shinobu depressed again.

 

 

Four months past and Shinobu was as depressed as ever. She was eating all the time and was round in the belly. Everyone tried to stop her from eating so much, but she just started eating more. She ate just about anything available. But strangely enough she ate a lot of raw lettuce. She even had pickles and ice cream. Everyone was weirded out. But no one could stop her. Kai was still in prison. He had some cellmates.

 

Kai was walking around the dining area with Tala and Bryan. Apparently they are in for robbery. But what they are actually doing is they are under cover to bust Kai out. They were eating the disgusting meat of prison. They were in orange suits.

“So, Kai. How are we going to escape?” Tala asked.

“We're not.” Kai replied.

“Hey Punks!” Said another prisoner. “You're in my seat!” He complained placing his hand on Kai's shoulder. Kai slapped it off.

“Shove it.” He insulted. “I'll sit where I want.” Kai stood up.

“Punk! I'll break you're face!” He yelled. Kai high kicked him in the face. The prisoner fell over. Others stood up and stomped over. Tala and Brian stood.

“Looks like they all want some action.” Brian said.

“Well, they can have it.” Tala replied. They all went for multiple targets.

 

Kai jump kicked one man and low punched another. He tripped another and kicked him in the head into another. He back flipped and double kicked two prisoners. He landed and side kicked another. Tala punched one prisoner and jump kicked another. He span and kicked one and punched another. He landed and back flip kicked one more. Brian punched the air and a prisoner went flying. He multi-punched thin air and prisoners were falling.

 

Kai crashed together two guys heads and pushed them into more. He rapid kicked more prisoners. He bent over and Tala jumped him, kicking someone in the face. Brian swing kicked thin air and three guys fell down. Officers soon came and apprehended every prisoner. Kai, Tala and Brian were taken to their cell. Kai was chained to the wall and the others were just pushed in.

“Don't pick fights with everyone, you lunatics.” An officer insulted. “We might not be there to save you next time.”

“Save us. You ruined our fun.” Tala moaned.

“Yeah, we were kicking all their Asses.” Brian agreed.

“Forget it. You three are lunatics.” The cop said before locking the door on them. Kai slumped to the ground being lifted by the chains holding his arms. He was on his knees and he fell asleep. What else was there to do?

 

Ray walked up to the door of the police station. He walked inside.

“Excuse me. Would it please be possible to see Kai Hiwatari?” He asked.

“Yes, hold on a minute.” The woman at the counter said. “Hey… you're that lady from the hospital.” Ray said.

“Uh… no I'm not.” She lied, making it seem though she was always here.

“Forget it.” Ray said.

 

Kai was unchained. He looked up.

“What now?” He asked.

“You've got a visitor.” The cop said. Kai was taken to the same room as the one he was in with the psychiatrist. But he was chained to the wall this time.

“Ray!” Kai said.

“Hi.” Ray replied. “I thought I'd visit you, cause no one has yet.”

“And that's all… just cause I might be lonely.” Kai mocked.

“Don't mock me Kai. I don't believe what everyone says. You didn't rape Shinobu.” Ray said.

“So… I should have! Just so I could show everyone who doubts me.” Kai said.

“You don't mean that. I know you feel for her. And she loves you too.” Ray said.

“If she loves me like you said. Then why in gods name am I still in here. I am suffering for a crime not committed. I am imprisoned for something I didn't do. They are giving me punishments I don't deserve.” Kai yelled.

“Kai… Shinobu is eating a lot, far too much for someone like her to handle. She is getting quite fat. If she carries on the way she is she'll kill herself. I'm here to help prove you innocence to get her to stop. Then we can return to normal.” Ray said.

“Ray! I think you're mistaking me for someone who cares.” Kai mocked.

“Kai! I know you don't mean that! I know you care about her. You just so pissed that you won't admit it. It'd destroy you tough exterior.” Ray said. Kai faced away from him. “Kai… are you… crying?” He asked. Kai had water going down his cheeks.

“No!” He roared. “I do care! But what can I do! This'll never return to normal. I hate Tyson more than anything! I hate Motoko because she used this to be rid of me! I hate Naru because she did the same. My reputation is gone… destroyed. There isn't anything I can't lose now.” Kai yelled.

“Yeah there is…” Ray said. “And her name… is Shinobu Maehara. Lose her… and you lose everything.” He explained.

“Well, what do you propose we do?” Kai asked.

 

Shinobu was on her bed. He stomach was big and she didn't care. Most of her clothed didn't fit her now. Funny thing is, she's not fat in the face or the arms, and she's not fat in the legs, only her belly. Cut it off and she'd be normal. She stood and walked down the stairs. She walked down them and straight out the door. She walked around the town and sat on her usual bench to cry. She began crying again. Someone came and sat next to her. She looked to see who it was. It was Max.

“Still upset. I don't blame you… this sort of thing happened to one of my friends, a close friend. She lost her sister in a beyblading accident. Did Kai ever tell you he'd never fallen in love before?” Max asked.

“What are you trying to get at?” Shinobu asked.

“I'm just trying to talk to you.” Max said.

“Not about Kai.” Shinobu ordered.

“Okay… uh… well… could you stop eating so much? Everyone's worried.” Max said. Shinobu stood up. “Where're you going?” Max asked.

“To get a double sized cheese burger.” Shinobu said. She walked off.

“Is it me… or is she acting exactly like Kai?” Max asked himself. “Hey wait up.” Max ran after her. “So… Why are you eating so much? Is it depression?” he asked.

“No… I just… can't seem to eat less.” Shinobu said, blushing.

“You mean… like a force of habit?” Max asked. He thought having a force of habit to eat when hungry was normal, but to eat constantly was something else.

“Yeah. It's like I'm always hungry no matter what I eat. But my stomach rapidly bounces if I eat chilli, and it hurts so I try to avoid that.” Shinobu joked.

“Well, maybe it is depression, but you don't really know it.” Max said.

“Maybe. I just…” Shinobu said, her eyes beginning to water. Max looked. “I just want Kai.” She cried. She dropped tears rather quickly standing where she was. Max stopped; he looked at her as she cried.

“Um… Shinobu… Come with me.” Max said as he grabbed her hand and he took her off somewhere.

“Where're we going?” She asked. Max giggled.

“You'll see.” He said.

 

Kai was with Tala. They were smashing rocks for some reason. Kai smashed them, imagining it was Tyson. The more her thought about Tyson, the angrier he became. It wasn't long before he was in a complete rage. Eventually he had to be apprehended by officers and taken away. He wasn't taken to his cell though. He was taken back into that other room. As he calls it `visitors corner.' Kai was chained to the wall again. He looked.

“M… Max… and…” He started. Max went red in the face.

“HEY!!!” He yelled out. “TAKE OFF THOSE CHAINS!” Max roared. “I demand he not be treated like a mad man!” Max complained. Officers walked in.

“I am afraid we can't endanger you. Therefore he will remain chained up.” One said.

“Kai wouldn't hurt me because we're good friends. Kai wouldn't hurt her either.” Max said. The officers looked at each other.

“Hey… you're from the BBA aren't you?” The other cop said.

“Yeah!” Max said.

“Well, I'll release the chains if I can have an autograph.” The cop replied.

“Sure.” Max said smiling. “Cool, police fans.” Max got out a pen he had in his pocket. The police officer pulled out a notepad.

“Here sign this.” Max looked.

“Hey, you already have Kai's.” He said.

“Trust me it wasn't easy.” Max signed the pad and they unchained Kai. Kai rubbed his wrists and was jumped into. He wrapped his arms around Shinobu who was crying into his shirt. Max watched the cops leave and close the door.

“Kai… we need you back. We need to help you get out of here.” Max said, taking a seat. He looked over to Kai who let go of Shinobu. Shinobu went and sat next to Max. Kai sat down in the chair on the other side of the table.

“Well… how do you plan to do that, Max?” Kai asked.

“Let's see… you are in here because of rape, yet Ray convinced me and a few others you didn't do it.” Max started.

“Ray…” Kai said.

“Yeah… he's always had faith in you. No matter what anyone said he always spoke to them, making sure they got the message you didn't do it. So, me and Ray found out a little bit of information from Shinobu and now where are here. All we need to do is tell the truth. I know you probably have and if Shinobu tells the courts the truth and it's similar to your story, then you're in the clear. Problem is… Shinobu's parents think she's just trying to get everyone to stop by saying it wasn't rape. She is telling everyone she can she wasn't raped, and many people believe her. Only her parents think she's just either lying to protect you… or she's lying to stop further argument.” Max explained.

“Well, their morons then. What kind of parent doesn't believe their child?” Kai asked.

“Um… can you please stop talking about me like I'm in the third person.” Shinobu asked shyly.

“Sorry.” Max and Kai said simultaneously.

“Shinobu…” Kai said. “Ray told me your eating too much for you own good.” Kai finished.

“Well, it's not like I can help it. I just can't stop.” Shinobu blushed.

“I'd think it's a natural reaction of depression. He heart can't take the fact you're being punished unfairly. So it's causing he to ease the pain by eating.” Max explained his theory. Kai sighed.

“2 more minutes.” A speaker spoke.

“Well… Kai, don't give up on us. Me, Shinobu and Ray are on your side okay.” Max said.

“Okay, but when you see Tyson. Tell him… when I get out, he'll be the first person I'll look for.” Kai warned.

“Okay, I'll tell him.” Max smiled. He stood up and put his hand out. “It's been great speaking to you after such a long time. I hope you'll be free soon.” Max said. Kai stood and shook his hand. Shinobu walked around the table and to Kai. She was nearly crying again. She held her arms out like a child asking for a cuddle. Kai took her into his arms and gave her a warm hug.

“Cut down on the food, if you can okay.” Kai advised.

“Okay.” Shinobu replied, happily. She looked at him and he kissed her. After breaking apart officers walked in and violently took Kai away. Max and Shinobu were led out of the building.

 

“Shinobu…” Max started.

“Yeah, Max?” Shinobu asked.

“…Did that help?” Max asked.

“Yes, it did. Thank you Max.” Shinobu said as she gave him a peck on the cheek. Max giggled.

“Okay. Let's go home.” Max said. The two headed off for the Hinata apartment.
