CHAPTER TWENTY-SEVEN
SHINOBU’S RESCUE
SHINOBU’S RESCUE
It took about forty minutes to get to the abandoned building described by Koda’s memories. They approached cautiously, expecting the guards they had seen on the monitor and read about in the printouts from Kaolla’s machine.
But when they arrived at the point the guards should have been, there was no one around. It wasn’t until Tsuruko spoke up that Keitaro realized the were all being unusually quiet.
“There has been a fight here. There were two men stationed here just as the offal’s mind told us. They were taken over there.” She said pointing do west into a large clump of weeds.
The group slowly made there way through the wild growth until they cam upon three bodies. The men looked as if they were doing a war reenactment. Their bodies were cut, and mangled to the point that they were barely recognizable. Both of their faces had been completely caved in
They stared openly at the two corpses for quite some time until Motoko’s sharp vision caught sight of a trail of blood leading slightly west from the spot they were standing.
“This blood isn’t theirs.” Motoko said bluntly. “Whoever managed to do this to them was injured. And by the movement they made they were trying to avoid being seen by the guard’s further in. they crawled west to avoid the lights set up around the building.”
“Then they might be our friend.” Naru whispered hopefully.
“They could be Naru-chan,” Tsuruko replied. “Then again they could be a member of a rival gang as well. We have two choices before us ether we can commence assault on the building or we investigate who did this. Ether way the thugs holding Shinobu will know we are here sooner or later.”
“Then I say we find out who did this.” Keitaro said. When everyone looked at him to continue he stuttered then resumed talking. “Look we are about to risk our neck for one of our own. If somebody did this to them, then they may have a score to settle with them as well. I believe the old saying applies here, you know, ‘the enemy of my enemy is my friend’. If we find and help this guy he might be able to give us some insight as to what these assholes are doing and who they are working for.”
“Keitaro that is probably the wisest thing I have ever heard you say.” Haruka said. “You are finally learning what it means to be a leader. OK everybody, you heard the man. We’re going to find the person that did this and see if we can give them some help. Let’s go.”
Following the trail of blood closely, the group made silent progress forward. Then suddenly Keitaro dashed forward. The girls could swear they heard him whisper, "Oh Kami, No!."
The girls leapt forward to keep pace with him, but he had almost dashed out of sight. When they finally caught up with him, he was crying over a mass and rocking it back. And as he rocked back and forth between his sobs, they could hear him whispering Kanako’s name. Looking down they saw that he was cradling his adopted sister’s body.
“It seems that she did not abandon us after all.” Motoko said as tears began falling from her own eyes.
“She wanted to redeem herself our eyes so badly that she sacrificed her life to see Shinobu rescued.” Mitsuné whispered.
It was then that Mutsumi knelt down beside Keitaro and removed the mask covering her mouth. Her hands began to fly over Kanako’s body. She checked and rechecked the pulse points.
“I think we can breathe easier. She is still alive, but just barely. She has lost a lot of blood and she is suffering from hypothermia. It is the hypothermia that is probably responsible for her still being alive. This late spring chill has slowed her blood pressure down to the point where it was impossible for her to bleed to death. If we can hold off attacking them for about half an hour or so, I think I can save her life.”
“Do it!” Haruka snarled “and if she dies here than by the Kami the deaths of those responsible for her demise will be slow and painful indeed.”
Silently the now irate group watched, and kept watch, as Mutsumi removed the slender girl’s clothing. Pulling a small bag from the folds of her black garments she quickly a threaded needle and began stitching up some of Kanako’s larger wounds. The first was a deep gash located on the front of her left thigh. They could tell that the gash there was how she had lost the most blood. They could hear Mutsumi counting as she completed each stitch. When she reached twenty, she stopped. She then pulled a small bottle of antiseptic and wiped the wound clean. She then rethreaded her needle and placed five stitches in her lower right breast. She then pulled a roll of gauze from her bag and wrapped both wounds tightly.
“She lost most of her blood from the gash in her leg.” She said breathing heavily. “I believe my stitches will hold. The thing is one of us is going to have to stay behind and keep watch over her. I don’t know which one of them managed to nick her, but it was a lucky shot. It looks as if she was dodging another blow when one of them managed to hit her leg. If he hadn’t punctured the artery she probably would have continued on with her assault.”
“I will be the one to keep watch over her.” Mitsuné said. “And Kami help the bastard who tries to do anything to her now.”
“You’ll have to make sure that she doesn’t start running a fever.” Mutsumi said as she placed the mask back over her mouth. “If she does, give her a shot of antibiotics. I will leave my medical bag with you.”
“We will be back soon with Shinobu.” Haruka’s said smiling. “Now I have two reasons to make these bastards feel pain. First, they take our friend, and then they hurt my cousins. Keep close watch Mitsuné.”
Mitsuné watched them disappear into the weeds. She almost felt sorry for the bastards… almost.
When they were about fifty feet from the building, they stopped to get their bearings. They noticed two guards stationed in front of the double doors that were obviously the main entrance to the building. They also noticed two men walking around on the roof. They crawled back a couple of feet to discuss what to do.
“If it weren’t for the two men on the roof, I would just rush the two at the door.” Motoko’s said with a quiet growl. “But if we were to attack them, the guards on the roof would see us and raise the alarm.”
“I believe that I can handle both problems.” Mutsumi said.
“I have been meaning to ask you something.” Keitaro said in a whisper. “Why are you dressed like a movie character?”
“Keitaro, what do you know about ninjutsu?” Mutsumi asked.
“I believe it was developed on the island of Okinawa about the tenth century. They were primarily assassins but most of their weapons were derived from basic farming implements. They basically fought with, and worked for the shoguns. For the most part they wanted nothing more than the independence and freedom for their people from the shoguns.”
“Very good. Now, who owns quite a bit of Okinawa?”
“Your family does, why?” Keitaro replied. When it dawned on him what she was trying to tell him he slapped his head in surprise. “Are you telling me your family helped develop the world’s deadliest assassination techniques?”
When his question was met with stony silence, Keitaro swallowed heavily.
“OK let’s do this.” Tsuruko said.
They moved back towards the edge of the weeds. Once there Mutsumi reached into the folds of her clothing and produced a small vial.
“You will have ten seconds of cover smoke once I throw this. We must disable all four of them before it runs out. On the count of three. One…Two…Three.”
With that, she lobbed the vial and seemed to vanish. At the same time, Motoko and Tsuruko rushed forward. Keitaro could hear a couple of grunts; however, he really couldn’t make out any specific details in the initial confusion. When he got up to the doors, Tsuruko and Motoko were already sheathing their weapons. Two men now lay at their feet; one bleeding from his throat, the other was missing his head entirely.
“There is a side door to your left.” He heard from the roof. “A man stands there smoking a cigarette.”
“This one is mine.” Naru whispered. And she strolled around the building bold as brass.
The others peeked around the corner to see what would happen.
“Hey! Thank the Kami! I didn’t think I would find anyone this late at night. I crashed my bike and I was wondering if I could borrow your phone, or maybe catch a ride to my place?”
“I don’t know how you managed to get in here, but you’re going to get to ride my cock you little tramp. And then if I don’t like you I will kill you. If I do then I will share you with my friends, then you might get to go home when we are done with you.”
Anxiously they watched as the lumbering brute marched forward to claim what he thought was and easy prize. When he was less than an arms length away Naru reached out and stroked his arm.
“I always did like men who could make up their minds.” Then quick as a flash, she brought her other arm around in front of her. They saw the thug’s eyes as they widened in shock and then they were shocked themselves as he spit up blood. And then the doomed man reached for his throat just as his head toppled from his neck. “Unfortunately you now have no mind to make up.” With that, she spit into the man’s eyes as they blinked one last time.
“That’s one less shithead in the world.” She whispered to the others when they approached her. She was surprised though when Keitaro reached over and pulled her into a tight hug.
“I am sorry you had to do that. If it were not for the fact that someone is trying to get to me none of you would have to do any of this.”
Naru could feel the tears flowing freely from his eyes. Once again confirming why she had finally admitted she loved him.
The others too were visibly moved by the sight. Here they were, about to take on the rest of Koda’s thugs and Keitaro was worried about them. He was worried about their mental and physical safety. Each of the girls surrounded the couple and joined the hug they knew could very well be their last.
After a couple of tear-filled silent minutes Haruka finally managed to whisper. “Now I know we were all meant to be together. Let’s finish off this scum and get Shinobu and Kanako home.”
Each of them nodded as they reluctantly separated.
“OK Haru-chan. Now, how are we going to do this?” Keitaro asked quietly.
“Tsuruko and Motoko will enter through the double doors. Their best attacks are best used from a distance. Then, if necessary, they can close in and use hand-to-hand combat as needed. Mutsumi will go in through the roof. You, Naru, and I will go in through this door. We will start by having Tsuruko and Motoko blast in the doors then the rest of us will rush in. The first one to find Shinobu sticks with her no matter what. Once inside I will be using a technique that should confuse them. But everyone be on guard no matter what happens.”
With that Motoko and he sister dashed back around the corner. When Keitaro heard a loud gurgle he started back to see what had went wrong, but Haruka held him back.
“They will be fine. Now get ready to get Shinobu back, and stay close to me”
Haruka then moved right up next to the door, dragging Keitaro behind her. Naru followed quickly up the short steps.
They wait seemed to take forever. To Keitaro it seemed as if they waited on that small cement porch for an hour or better. Just when he thought he couldn’t possibly wait any longer he heard an enormous crash signaling that the Aoyama sisters had started the attack.
The next thing he knew Haruka was forcefully pulling him into the building. Then she spoke and her voice took on an otherworldly sound
‘Spring Blossom Confusion.’
Suddenly the whole building seemed to be filled with cherry blossoms. They came out of nowhere and filled they air around them. Then all hell broke loose.
The Dark Samurai seemed to come to life. But knowing that you are under attack and understanding the nature of that attack is two different things.
The half dozen or so men that were standing around suddenly started firing their weapons randomly. It seemed to Keitaro that they really couldn’t see anyone at all. Then things got even worse, for them. Keitaro watched as one man rushed towards a stack of crates just as Tsuruko stepped out from behind them. He tried to level his pistol at her but as soon as he started to raise his arm, she sliced upwards and it fell from his body. He started to scream, but even that wasn’t successful when her blade passed inches from his stomach and his scream turned to a choking gurgle. Keitaro understood why when the man’s intestines spilled from his abdomen.
Motoko had just finished off one of her opponents and was about to engage another when Keitaro spotted the danger to her. A man carrying an automatic rifle was poised above her and had leveled the gun at her chest. But before he could even think of shouting out a warning a length of chain snaked down to wrap around his throat. The man screamed unintelligibly as he was lifted off of his feet and dragged towards the rafters. Then he stopped screaming suddenly and his body fell to the floor, his head followed shortly thereafter. Then Mutsumi suddenly appeared on the box where the man had taken aim at Motoko only seconds before.
He, Haruka and Naru were still making their way along a metal catwalk about two stories up. It seems that whoever designed the garage thought that a sunken in floor would be best. As they made their way along, a door suddenly crashed open ahead of them. The man looked around panicking and then he spotted the trio moving towards him. Keitaro was nearly petrified with fear as Haruka snapped open her warfans.
The man laughed maniacally as he drew a rather nasty looking knife from a scabbard on his back. “You had better have more skill with those than I do with this.” He said as he waived the knife around. “'Cause I am tempted to let you live long enough to see me kill that bastard behind you. And then rape you and his little tart.”
What followed next was a furious exchange of blows. For five minutes and more Keitaro watched as his cousin and the knife-wielding thug danced the dance of death. Then Keitaro noticed something peculiar. Haruka was still smiling, kind of like watching the American cartoon character the Joker in that Batman movie, the one played by Jack Nicholson. Her opposite though was sweating heavily. His movements got slower and slower until he was so frustrated at being overmatched by this woman that he swung wildly and went off balance. Haruka simply caught his right leg and assisted him to complete his movement over the railing. He fell cursing her until he landed on the concrete floor below. He then lay there just twitching madly. Reports would later confirm that he had broken his neck.
The three rescuers started forward again. Haruka was now dangerously ahead of Keitaro and Naru. As she passed another door, Keitaro began wondering how long this was going to take. When suddenly the door burst open and a man charged out at her with a long metal pipe in his hands. Keitaro didn’t think about it at the time, he just acted.
The man never knew what hit him. Keitaro unleashed all of his anger and frustration into that pair of swings. The first blow shattered the man’s arm. The second pulverized his skull. Keitaro then shoved the man off the Catwalk to the floor below. His movement allowed him to glimpse what was probably the most disturbing sight he had ever seen.
Motoko and Mutsumi were fighting back to back and were doing a rather good job of defending one another. Then he heard it. A cackling not unlike that of a hyena. A huge mountain of a man was striding towards the bearing a flamethrower. Every time he would activate it, his laugh would reverberate through the building.
“Bitches think that can challenge Torch and his buddies do they. Well Torch has a cure for that, BARBEQUE!” he then watched as the psychotic man ignited his weapon again and accidentally set one of his own men on fire. “Sorry clubber looks like you got in the way.” He then began laughing even louder.
Just when he thought his two friends were doomed, Su’s amplified voice boomed through the building.
“You leave my sisters alone you worthless sharkshit soup!”
As far as he knew, Su had never cussed at anyone else before. But when she burst through the wall in her mechanized suit Keitaro could tell she was more than pissed. Her attempt to surprise them had failed however when the lunatic just played the flames over her instead.
It looked to Keitaro that his favorite inventor was done for. There was no-way that she could have survived such an extreme amount of heat. But he was pleasantly surprised when instead of seeing her smoldering body he saw a metal turtle standing tall.
“You tried to cook Su. Now Su will give you a lesson in cooking that she learned from sister Shinobu. First you must cut up your meat so it can cook evenly.” At this, she grabbed the steroid induced hulk with one of her oversized metal hands. Men started to scatter when she pulled off his first arm. Piece by piece she removed body parts from the formerly impressive man explaining the finer points of cooking that they had all heard Shinobu say at one time or another. Then the men were trying to scatter even more now, and they started screaming in fear as nets shot from the metal hulks right claw snaring each of them in turn.
It looked to Keitaro like the battle was over. Tsuruko, Motoko and Mutsumi were going around dispatching the remaining fighters in the process of questioning those in the nets. Keitaro tried not to think about the fact that those in the nets were dying shortly after being questioned. He instead concentrated his efforts on finding the room that they were keeping Shinobu in.
Floor by floor he searched each room diligently. Naru stayed close to him, watching his back. Until at last, he came to a heavy metal door on the bottom floor.
Nothing he tried would open the door. He tried to slide his credit card to force the lock open and all he did was bend his card. After what seemed like hours. he grew too frustrated and began pounding on the door. Suddenly he was being forced back by firm, yet gentle hands.
Mitsuné was here! She was kneeling before the door and was beginning to work the same magic she was able to work on the safe he kept in the apartment office. The rest of the girls noting Keitaro’s nervousness placed Kanako’s unconscious form in his arms. Immediately his concern shifted to the girl, he was holding. She was still naked and seemed too pale, even for her. Keitaro then removed his jacket and wrapped it around her torso. Several minutes later he heard Mitsuné exclaim in triumph as the door swung open.
There hanging in the dark was Shinobu. She had a rope tied around her wrists ankles and waste and she was hanging from the ceiling. She was blindfolded and was sobbing uncontrollably. They were about to rush in when a familiar figure stepped out from the shadows of the room.
Kentaro Sakata stepped out into the light of the room beyond.
“You girls should really learn to understand when you are beaten. I will admit that disposing of this trash the way you did is impressive, but the final win is still ours.” With that he snapped his fingers and the room was illuminated so that they could see the man stand behind Shinobu holding a wicked looking chainsaw, and the motor to it was quietly idling.
“Now it seems to me that you have all chosen this looser. Naru, you were once under my spell but you eventually kicked me out of your life. Then you gave this lower class vermin your virginity. I thought you knew better. Now my father set me on the track to success many years ago. I learned that money, power and privilege are all that it takes to really get by in the world. I made a deal with certain gentlemen to keep all of you from falling into the worms hands, I underestimated his looser charm.” With that, he kicked out and caught Keitaro off guard, and breaking his nose in the process. “Now he is starting to look like the looser he is. Don’t worry though, he is going to look much worse when I am done with him. You see the people that actually run things don’t like to loose. They aren’t really concerned with honor, they only care about power, just like me. Their instructions are to keep all of you girls from giving him your bodies. So if I use up this little fool in there. I still win. So I and my friend in there are going to leave here with little Shinobu. I am going to rape her over and over. Yes, I know that such actions are beneath me, but what the hell. After she has had two or three of my children, I might even marry her. By then she should be compliant enough to do anything I say. And after she has totally submitted to me, I will turn her out on the street. I will see to it that she has to beg for every scrap of food she eats. My father agrees with my plan see. He has told me that such thinking will catapult me to the top of my unit and eventually I will be able to run several enforcement units such as this one.”
Motoko had heard enough but when she started towards the traitorous man the man, wielding the chainsaw revved it up.
“Now Motoko, you don’t think I would plan to kidnap the foolish girl without knowing I would have to deal with you, did you? If any of you don’t comply with what I want I will just have to kill her, and none of us actually want that, well…you don’t anyway”
He looked as if he wanted to say something else but a loud clank interrupted him. Turning to look to see what the hell had happened he saw that the thug he had hired to guard his prisoner had dropped his chainsaw and was frantically trying to get something behind his back, then he slummed forward and collapsed. Everyone watched in amazement as a pool of blood quickly spread over the floor from a sickle shaped cut in his back. Then a dark dressed figure dropped to the floor and severed the five ropes holding Shinobu off of the ground. The figure then caught her before she could hit the ground.
Kentaro started to scream at the figure but the sound of footfalls behind him made him turn around.
The full force of the Hinata crew was now advancing on him en-mass. He turned whiter than his suit as he realized that he was now at the mercy of them that he had belittled. He could taste the bitterness of his words. He thought of running but the only way out now was through the small window located in the room with the back dressed woman. And she had just killed his last available backup. He thought quickly and decided to try to talk himself out of his grave situation.
“Look, I have lost. I will just vanish and you will never here from me again. My father is rich enough. The reward for letting me live will be more than worth your trust. Come on you really don’t want to do this, do you? Letting me live is the most profitable solution to this situation.”
Now he was kneeling on the floor. He was holding his hands up before him to stave of the oncoming blows.
“Keitaro, you were always so peaceful. You really don’t want my blood on your hands, do you? What good would killing me do? I swear if you let me go I will serve you in anyway I can. Why is looking to get ahead so wrong? If you were born with the ambition I have, you would have done the same thing.”
Now he was shaking. He was doomed and he knew it. He had proven himself to be just as Motoko had said he was, so many years ago, a power hungry lout without human feeling or honor. He saw the deep looks of hatred burning in the eyes of the girls surrounding him. He looked over and saw Keitaro’s sister lying unconscious a few feet away. She had bandages wrapped around her chest and finally understood the damage he had caused them.
This was a quiet part of town. In downtown Tokyo such sounds would have been discovered right away. But there were very few people awake at this early morning hour. So, when his screams found their way into the still night there was no one around to hear them. If anyone had heard them, they would have sworn that they were more animalistic then human. His judgment was swift and final.
The girls had let him live. But they had disfigured him quite badly. His nose was gone and he was missing an eye. He had multiple scars crisscrossing his face. His hands were crushed and the joints in both arms had been shattered. His testicles and penis had been removed and the injury had been burned until the wound had sealed shut. His tongue had been cut from his mouth. The police investigated, of course. But he was found amongst the bodies of known felons. They had decided that he was a minor underworld figure. And although they had no evidence with which to prosecute him, the justice department decided that he had chosen a dangerous group of companions, and had paid the price. The last anyone heard from Kentaro was a medical team was now caring for him around the clock.
Our Hinata crew silently made their way home. Shinobu almost instantly fell asleep. She had been so terrified that she was afraid to sleep alone. Mitsuné therefore, had decided to keep watching over her during the night. Kanako’s injuries had made sure that she would remain unconscious. Haruka and Mutsumi would end up taking turns caring for her.
Keitaro was unusually nervous. He was seated in the hot springs just staring at the stars. When Motoko and Tsuruko came out to join him, they could tell something was definitely wrong.
“Keitaro, my sister and I wanted you to know just how proud we are of you. What we had to do was definitely unpleasant, but completely necessary. You have more than proven why you are worthy of our love. We do not want you to feel guilty for tonight. If it weren’t for you watching over us many of us would have died. Kaolla’s jewelry let us know who was in the most danger. It was your eyes that watched over us. You were our general. If there is anything bothering you, I hope you will let us know.”
“I know that it was circumstantial, but the police may soon come looking for me again. You see, I happen to own the building those thugs had decided to make their hideout.”
“How do you know that Keitaro? That place is so overgrown with weeds that it was hard to tell anything about it.” Motoko asked.
Reaching behind him, he pulled up a ten by twelve sign. Although faded it clearly read, Property of the U.S. Army. Keep Out.’
"Keitaro, only you would find that kind of evidence against you. Now, I suggest we all go inside. After all, you have six nights left to spend alone with my sister. And the sooner her nights are done, the sooner I get my turn with you." Tsuruko said laughing.
With that, Keitaro and the two sisters walked arm in arm back the teahouse.

But when they arrived at the point the guards should have been, there was no one around. It wasn’t until Tsuruko spoke up that Keitaro realized the were all being unusually quiet.
