Last Time: “Well, after I was separated from Inu Yasha, I just basically wondered around. And two days after wondering around I ran into an injured Riku. Helping him out, we both decided to travel together to try and find our friends.” Kagome summarized, letting her thoughts stray back to the platinum haired boy.
Noticing a light blush beginning to appear on the young miko's face Sango asked, “Why don't you tell me more about this Riku character?”
“Why are you interested?” Kagome asked; sticking herself deeper into the water, so that half of her face was submerged.
“Not really, but I can tell you are.” Sango said, smirking at the blush that was becoming evident on Kagome's face.
“I just met him Sango. Sure he's cute and all and he did save my life.” Kagome stammered, unwilling to look Sango in the eye.
“When did he save your life?' Sango asked, trying to get more info out of Kagome.
At first unwilling to speak, Kagome finally caved in after Sango did some major pleading, proceeding to tell her about the incident with the snake demon.
Once Kagome was done talking, Sango and Kagome decide to just soak for a while. After getting all prunny, they both unanimously decided to get out of the water, but as they were reaching for their clothes they hear a rustling in the bushes.
Cursing their luck, Sango went back into the water and looked for a good rock to throw. When she found one, she threw it in the direction she heard the rustling. Not hearing anything, Sango and Kagome continued to put their clothes on.
Still suspicious of the noise, Sango hand signaled Kagome to be quiet and to follow her. Creeping towards the bushes, they suddenly came face to face with a certain perverted monk.
Chapter Four
“Hey uh… Miroku, why are you limping?” Riku asked his curiosity getting the best of him, seeing as how the monk had just fine last night, but now since they had been traveling he's been limping.
“I… I fell.” Miroku answered, not wanting to think about last night. He still wasn't sure if it had been worth it. Sango had shown him no mercy. He slightly winced of at the thought of Sango with her Hiraikotsu.
“Okay.” Riku stretched, not really sure what to think, but what business was it his anyway.
Falling behind some, Riku matched his pace with that of a certain raven haired miko. Starting a small conversation, Riku found out that he actually liked talking with Kagome and just being near her, he was also starting to get over Kairi. Unwilling to think too much into it, Riku decided that even if he did like Kagome like that things just wouldn't work out. They were both from different worlds, literally.
Seeing Riku and Kagome interact with each other, Sango thought it'd be best to give them some privacy, so she began to speed up her pace until she was walking in sync with a particular limping monk.
Miroku wandering why Sango was now walking next to him looked backed and saw where Sango's gaze lie. What he saw made him happy for his young miko friend, for there was Kagome talking and smiling with that new comer Riku.
Sora also noticed this little deed and noted that Riku was spending a lot of time with Kagome. Getting an idea, Sora began to smile a wicked smile; he was going to play matchmaker with his best friend and the time traveling, miko. Now let's see who would help him out with his little plans. Sora found just the right candidate, Sango, who was also looking at Kagome and Riku, was smiling. Making a side note to himself to talk to Sango about this later, Sora started to tell Kairi about his matchmaking plans.
“Inu Yasha, something's coming.” Kagome all of a sudden said, stopping in her tracks. She had abruptly felt something vile heading this way with jewel shards.
Growling, Inu Yasha picked up on an all too familiar scent. Taking out his Tetsaiga, he prepared to attack. Sango and Miroku following his lead also got into defensive position. Not knowing what was going on, Riku, Sora, and Kairi followed suit.
Not long afterwards Naraku appeared before them. With him were two unknown demons, one on each side of him. The one on his left had an ugly hunched back, he had purple skin with yellow hair; his eyes a blood red. And the one on Naraku's right was like a tall grotesque ogre, with razor sharp claws and fangs. He had six pairs of arms, and burnt orange skin; he also had an ax in each arm.
“So it seems that you've recruited new members for your pathetic little group.” Naraku said, eying Sora, Riku and Kairi.
“Too bad they will do you no good, as you are about to meet your end. Kukuku.”
And with that Naraku took his leave before anybody could stop him. Soon a dark, purple mist started to set in, separating the shard hunters from one another.
Kagome tried to purify the mist that was actually miasma, but was unable to do so. Deciding that there was just too much miasma to purify, Kagome started to wonder around, hoping to run into somebody; occasionally calling out for Inu Yasha, Miroku, Sango, Shippo, Riku, Sora, and Kairi, but to no luck.
Suddenly Kagome found herself feeling very drowsy. Stifling back a yawn, Kagome tried to continue on, but found herself too tired to even move her legs. Collapsing, Kagome saw a pair of blood red eyes before she blacked out; unaware that the same thing was happening to the other girls in their group.
Frustrated, Inu Yasha tried jumping to see if he could see how far the mist reached. He was disappointed to find that the mist went too high. About to pull out tetsaiga and wind scar the mist away, the mist suddenly lifted much to his surprise; revealing Sora, Riku, and Miroku not too far away from himself. Kagome nowhere in sight.
All of a sudden the earth started rumbling and three holes started to appear a distance away. And slowly arising from said hole were three long poles with Kagome Sango, and Kairi tied onto them; seemingly asleep.
“What the hell did you do to them?” Inu Yasha yelled at the two demons who were sitting atop of the poles.
With a blink of an eye, the one with the burnt orange skin, was standing in front of them. Setting one of his axes down, he reached into his vest and pulled out six jewel shards and placed them into each of his wrists.
“Don't worry Inu Yasha they're only sleeping per say.” He mockingly replied.
“And what the hell do you mean by that?” Inu Yasha asked preparing to attack.
“You see my friend over there is releasing miasma into your friend's body systems. Let's see if you get tom them before it's too late.” The demon said, gleaming as if he'd already won
Growling, Inu Yasha charged at him, swinging wildly like always. Miroku, Sora, and Riku, went after the girls, while Inu Yasha held the demon off. But to their surprise they were stopped by three more duplicates of the same demon.
Watching from a distance, Koji saw that the keyblade wielder and his friends had the upper hand. The Riku boy had already defeated his opponent and was currently helping out Sora. Resolving to act now before he lost his chance, Koji transported himself.
Ending up behind the purple demon, Koji swiftly killed the demon, even before he realized that he was there. Good timing too, seeing as how the boys has finished the last copy and were helping Inu Yasha with the real one with the jewel shards.
Jumping into the air Koji landed on top of the pole Kagome was currently residing on. About to continue with his plans, he was hindered when Inu Yasha wand the others appeared.
“Now who the hell are you?” Inu Yasha asked the strange new comer.
“And just what are your intentions here?” Miroku inquired laying his eyes on the dead demon.
“My intentions are none of your business.” Koji coolly stated. Lifting up his arms he summoned a massive amount of heartless and nobodies to keep them occupied as he worked.
Not liking the eerie smile that appeared on the unknown new comer's face, Inu Yasha whacked away at the heartless and nobodies, and doing a wind scar when he was sure no one was around.
While they were distracted, Koji sat cross - legged on top of the pole and began to concentrate. Soon hi spirit left his body and he began to float down, leveling himself with Kagome.
Smirking, Koji then began to enter Kagome's body. Earning a moan of pain out of her which instantly caught Inu Yasha's attention.
Before Inu Yasha could do anything brash, Miroku called out, “Wind tunnel!” Sucking in all of the heartless and nobodies.
Koji on the other hand was too wrapped up in his task to notice all the heartless and nobodies were just about gone. Instead he was more concerned at what he found inside of Kagome.
Nothing, absolutely nothing. He could not find a single speck of darkness in this girl's heart or soul. Shocked Koji thought to himself that she must be the one “he” had been looking for.
Quickly leaving her body, Koji slipped back into this body looking out to see that Inu Yasha, Riku, Sora, and Miroku had already defeated all the heartless and nobodies.
Curing Koji said, “I believe not it's time to take my leave. But don't worry we will meet again.” And with that Koji took off.
Not wanting him to get away, Inu Yasha took off after him, while Miroku, Sora, and Riku went to take the girls off the poles, checking to see if they were alright.
Once they had gotten them down from the poles, the girls had ugly, dark patches of purple on their skin.
“What is this stuff?” Sora asked, afraid what this stuff might do to the girls.
“It's miasma.” Miroku answered, studying the patches. “Shippo bring me Kagome's backpack.”
Nodding his head, Shippo went and retrieved Kagome's backpack, wasting no time.
Digging through Kagome's backpack, Miroku found what he had been searching for. After Kagome and Riku had left Jinenji's, Jinenji had given them some of his liquid remedy just in case they ran into any more trouble.
Giving Sora and Riku some, Miroku said, “Apply some of this stuff on top of the patches, and rub it onto the skin.”
Nodding their head in acknowledgment, the three boys proceeded to apply the potion onto the girl's skin, each hoping that it would work, when they were down the boys continued to make camp where they were. Laying out the sleeping bags, Sora placed Kairi in his, but Kierra on the other hand went to lie next to Sango acting as her pillow occasionally licking her face.
Lifting Kagome, Riku also laid Kagome in her sleeping bag like Sora had done with Kairi. But after he had set Kagome down, she began to slowly open her eyes. And what she saw made her heart race, there was Riku hovering over worry etched into his face, but when she opened her eyes the worry seemed to have disappeared from his features.
Wondering why he was worried, Kagome slowly tried to sit up, but was stopped by Riku. “You should lye down and get some rest, your still recovering.” Blushing Kagome nodded her head in reply, and laid back down and soon fell into a light sleep.
Inu Yasha had arrived just in time to see this little interaction between Kagome and Riku and he did not like what he saw one bit.
xxx-----------------------xxx
He just sat there, starring at the raging water, as it fell into the river below. After he had taken off, Koji came upon this cave, behind a waterfall and decided to make camp here.
So many thoughts kept swarming in his mind at the movement, and he felt more tranquil when he starred at the water.
Clearing his mink, Koji thought about what his next set of actions would be. He knew that, that girl was the one Ryoji was looking for. So he could A) Kidnap the girl and take her to Ryoji or B) Let her and her friends deal with that bastard Ryoji.
He opted for the second choice but Ryoji's a fierce opponent. If he had it his way, Ryoji would have been dead long ago, and he wouldn't be stuck doing all of his dirty work.
Sighing Koji finally decided to watch them for a while, and make his move when the timing was just right.
Glad that he had come to a decision, Koji found a comfortable spot in the cave and fell asleep.

“Oh! Hey Kagome. I didn't realize any body else was up.” Kairi said from behind Kagome, slightly startling her.
“Oh, hey Kairi. What brings you out here at this time of night?” Kagome asked, starring out into the night sky.
“I was just about to ask you the same thing.” Kairi replied, sitting down next to Kagome.
“I couldn't really sleep. What about you?” Kagome asked, turning to look at Kairi.
“I couldn't sleep either. It's just strange being in a completely different world.” Kairi replied, starting to think about Destiny Island.
“I know how you fell.” Kagome said, but when she saw the confused look become apparent on Kairi's face, Kagome changed the subject. “So how long have you and Sora been dating?”
“A few months, but I've practically known him my whole life. What about you? Is there a special guy in your life?” Kairi asked, hoping to get useful info for Sora, and his matchmaking scheme.
Instantly Kagome thought of Riku, but she pushed that thought out of her mind, and replied, “Not really.”
“What about Inu Yasha.” Kairi asked, prying for more information.
“There's nothing between us.” Kagome quietly responded.
“Oh come there has to be something, I mean he was very worried about you when y'all were separated.”
Right when she had said that, Kagome thought about all those painful times when Inu Yasha would go to Kikyo and leave her behind forgetting about her.
Kairi seeing the emotions cross Kagome's face quickly said, “I'm sorry I shouldn't have said anything.”
“No it's okay. Come on it's getting late we should probably head back to bed.” Kagome said, getting up.
“Yea.” Kairi responded, following Kagome inside.
The next morning, Kairi made sure to wake up early and tell Sora everything that had happened last night. Not knowing that another set of ears was listening in on their conversation.
Just as Kairi finished telling Sora about last night, everybody started to wake up.
Sora ready for phase one of his matchmaking plot, followed Sango to the river, who had volunteered to get the water for breakfast, with Kairi also tagging along.
Catching up with Sango, the duo offered Sango their help.
“That's okay I can handle it by myself. After all it's just water.” Sango replied, filling up the bucket.
“Uhh… Sango there's something I wanted to ask you, but I'm not quite sure how?” Sora said, scratching the back of his head nervously.
“What do you mean?” Sango asked, picking up the now full bucket of water.
“Well you see uhh…” Sora timidly said, but was interrupted by Kairi, “He wants you to help him set up Riku and Kaogme.”
“I don't know. I'm not sure if I want to meddle in Kagome's love life.” Sango answered, starting the trip back to camp with Sora and Kairi alongside her.
“Would you at least consider it.” Sora pleaded.
“I'll consider, but I doubt I'm going to change my mind.” Sango said.
Reaching camp they saw Inu Yasha sitting in one of the trees, glaring. Following his glare, they saw that he was glaring at Riku, who was sitting a bit too close to Kagome than was necessary.
“Sango have you seen Miroku, he should have been back by now.” Kagoem asked, taking the water from Sango.
“No, maybe we should go look for him?” Sango suggested. She knew that Miroku could take care of himself, but she couldn't help but worry.
“I'll help you look for him.” Sora offered, hoping to try and change Sango's mind about his plan.
“I'll join you guys.” Kairi said, grabbing her keyblade.
“Alright.” Sango agreed, grabbing her Hiraikotsu, and heading into the forest, where had seen Miroku enter.
“Hey Inu Yasha, can you go get the firewood, so I can start breakfast.” Kagome asked digging through her bag, trying to find her cooking supplies.
“Why do I …' Inu Yasha was saying, until he caught a whiff of something in the air, “I'll be back soon.” He finished taking off from his potion on the tree.
Confused at his behavior, Riku just started to help Kagome set up her supplies. Shippo on the other hand went and followed Inu Yasha, curious as to what he was up to.
“Thanks for helping Riku.” Kagome said after they had finished setting up her supplies.
“I wonder what's taking them so long.” Kagome stated after waiting half an hour for Inu Yasha and Shippo to return with the wood.
“You wait here, and I'll go see what's taking them so long.” Riku said, still curious about Inu Yasha's actions earlier.
“No wait I'm going with you.” Kagome said, grabbing her bow and arrows.
“Suit yourself.” Riku said, already heading into the forest.
Catching up with Riku, they both walked together into the forest in a comfortable silence, looking for any signs of Inu Yasha, Shippo, or the others.
“Shhh…” Riku whispered against Kagome's ear, pointing in the direction a shadow.
It was too tall to be Shippo's and it lacked the dog ears, so it couldn't have been Inu Yasha. Sneaking up behind who ever it was Riku and Kagome came upon Miroku, who was starring at his left hand.
“Kagome you startled me.” Miroku stated, rubbing the back of his head sheepishly.
“What are you doing here Miroku? Everybody's out looking for you.” Kagome questioned, wondering what's up with the hentai monk.
Looking at his left hand again, Miroku said, “I'll tell you why when everybody else is here to hear it.”
Nodding her head in reply, Kagome wondered what had happened to Miroku to make him act so serious.
“Someone's coming.” Riku stated, interrupting Kagome's thoughts.
Getting into fighting stance, Riku raised his keyblade, Miroku his staff, and Kagome drew an arrow.
Walking out of the bushes was, Shippo.
What are you doing here Shippo? Weren't you with Inu Yasha?” Kagome asked, putting her arrow back in her quiver.
Looking nervous, Shippo replied, “Inu Yasha was being mean to me, so I decided to just go and find you.”
Suspicious, Kagome just nodded her head in reply, and let Shippo climb onto her shoulder.
Deciding to search for the others, Kagome, Miroku, and Riku continued to look for the others.
Walking around for more than an hour, Kagome suddenly sensed a jewel shard near by.
“There's a jewel shard up ahead.”
Running towards the direction of the shard, Miroku, Kagome, Shippo, and Riku came upon a repulsive looking demon, already in battle with Sango, Sora and Kairi.
The demon was a horrible shade of puke green with what looked to be a patch of orange hair on top of his head. He stood a good eleven feet tall with grey eyes all over his body. He had four arms sticking out of his body with gauntlets on each.
Notching an arrow, Kagome aimed towards the demon and fired. Sensing the oncoming arrow, the demon barely dodged the arrow, but it did manage to graze its left cheek, leaving a thin line of blue blood.
“Where's the jewel shard?” Inu Yasha asked, appearing behind them, tetsaiga already drawn.
Turning around to answer, Kagome was shocked to say the least to see Kikyo standing right next to Inu Yasha.
“It's on his forehead Inu Yasha, but before you go rushing in, shouldn't you devise a plan first?” Kikyo coolly stated, looking right at Kagome.
“What do you have in mind?” Inu Yasha asked, looking at Kikyo, who was now looking him in the eye.
“You go over to the demon and fight, but don't use the wind scar or backlash wave until I tell you to, ok.” Kikyo directed.
Nodding his head, Inu Yasha took off to fight the demon; Riku and Miroku already have done so before Inu Yasha arrived.
Slightly suspicious as to what Kikyo was up to, Kagome just stood there next to Kikyo, watching the fight.
Kikyo on the other hand was frowning; she didn't like the vibes she was getting from that unknown platinum haired boy. She didn't like the darkness she could see in his aura.
Aiming her arrow, Kikyo had a perfect shot of both the demon, Inu Yasha, and the owner of the dark aura. About to shoot, Kikyo suddenly felt a huge weight crash into her.
Kagome had seen where Kikyo was aiming, and so she tackled her before she could shoot, successfully knocking her down.
Notching her own arrow, Kagome aimed and fired at the demon hitting him dead on. With a howling wail of pain, the demon was purified instantly.
From the distance, Inu Yasha had seen Kagome tackle Kikyo, and assumed the worst of Kagome. Growling, he quickly took off towards the direction of the two mikos leaving the others to collect the jewel shard.
“What the hell were you thinking wench? Why did you interfere with Kikyo's plan like that?” Inu Yasha yelled, helping Kikyo up.
“What do you mean Inu Yasha? If I hadn't tackled Kikyo she would have killed you and Riku along with the demon!” Kagome yelled back at the disgruntled hanyou.
Sora, Kairi, and Riku were confused at the half - demon's behavior. Kagome had managed to kill the demon and save Riku's life. So why was he so mad? So what if Kagome interfered with Kikyo's plan, it was for the better.
Looking downcast, Kagome willed herself not to cry, especially not in front in Inu Yasha and Kikyo. She just didn't understand Inu Yasha, she had saved his life and destroyed the demon, yet he continued to act like an ass.
Fed up with his behavior, Kagome bolted into the forest before anybody even had a chance to try and say anything.
Shaking their heads disappointedly at the hanyou, Sango and Miroku headed back towards their camp.
“Are you just going to let her run off like that? Shouldn't somebody go after her of something?” Sora asked, still standing in the same spot along with Riku and Kairi.
“At times like these it's best to give her some time alone.” Sango answered.
“You mean this happens often?” Kairi asked.
“Sadly, yes.” Sango answered.
Shrugging their shoulders, Sora and Kairi followed Miroku, Sango and Shippo. Riku on the other hand snuck away from the others and followed Kagome, hoping that she was alright.
xxx------------------xxx
Slowing down, Kagome turned her run into a slow walk, taking time to get a good look at her surroundings.
Sighing, Kagome found a tree stump perfect enough for her to sit on. Sitting down, she began to compare herself to Kikyo. “I mean what did Inu Yasha see in her. Not only is she trying to kill him, she's also dead and helping out the enemy”, she thought aloud.
Frustrated, Kagome let out a loud exasperated sigh. Too occupied in her thoughts she didn't notice a certain dark aura approaching.
Coming upon a preoccupied Kagome, Riku watched as Kagome's face went through many different emotions. Unsure as to what to do, Riku slowly went up to Kagome and asked, “Are you alright?”
Jumping back in surprise, Kagome fell off of the stump she was sitting on. Quickly helping up the now blushing Kagome, Riku asked Kagome yet again if she was alright.
Nodding her head yes in reply, Kagome sat back down, this time at the base of a nearby tree, Riku following suit right next to her.
“Do you want to talk about it?”
“Why do you care so much? I mean as soon as you seal the keyhole you and your friends will leave.”
“Well when I first came to this planet, helpless and alone, you helped me out without a seconds hesitation. I want to repay that kindness.” Riku answered, looking up at the stars.
Searching his face for any signs of false pretenses, Kagome let out a long sight and began to tell Riku everything, everything being the love triangle between her, Kikyo, and Inu Yasha.
