Chapter 9
‘Why do I feel this way? I’m supposed to hate everybody. What are these feelings?’
“Well, if I wasn’t mistaken, I’d say you were sulking.” Sasuke startled but remained as calm as he could. He looked down from his place in the tree and saw a girl about his age with long raven hair and chocolate brown eyes. She had on a pair of red hakamas like that demon thing but had a white haori. He looked from her to the bow and arrows she carried on her back. Sasuke turned his head away and focused on something else.
“What do you want?” he said darkly.
“Oh, well I heard that Inuyasha got under your skin so I came to apologize for his irrational behavior. He gets aggressive if you come near anything that he has already claimed.”
“How do you know him?” Sasuke’s interests turned toward the girl’s knowledge of who the stranger Inuyasha was.
The girl smiled sheepishly and said “Well, he’s my teammate for the chunin exams. Forgive me, I’m Kikyo.”
“You describe him as if he were a dog.”
“He is. Well, only half anyway. His father was the greatest dog demon that ever lived and he fell in love with a human princess. She was pregnant when he died fighting for her. When he was only a pup, the village people killed her for mating a demon. Inuyasha was shunned away all his life, from the demons who hated his human side and from the humans who hated his demon side. He was alone for a while until his half brother Sesshomaru took him in.” A tear ran down Kikyo’s cheek. “His story is a sad one. That is why we are not too hard on him all the time.” She looked up at Sasuke who had been staring off into space. He stood and leapt off into the trees.

“How many times are you gonna go off like that? We need to keep training for the chunin exams! At this rate, we’ll fail before we even start!”
“Put a sock in it Kouga! I’m tired of hearing you whine!” Kouga glared maliciously.
“Training has to come first before some woman! Why do you always reject this?” Inuyasha rolled his eyes,
“Easy, the same reason why I reject you. I already know how to fight and it’s not like I’m going to forget anyway so, what’s the big deal?” Inuyasha sat with his legs crossed and Tetsuseiga leaning against his shoulder.
“Wouldn’t you like to get faster and stronger? That’s what training is for; of course you wouldn’t understand that, mutt.” Kouga muttered but knew Inuyasha heard every word.
“What’d you say?” Inuyasha growled.
“You heard me.” Kouga growled back.
“Okay, this time, you’re a dead man! Strike that, first you gotta be a man.” Inuyasha taunted. Kouga was right up to his face, his nose barely touching Inuyasha’s.
“Is that a challenge?” he said through bared teeth.
“If that’s what you want to call it.” Inuyasha retorted. Just before they could go at it, Kikyo approached them and grabbed their ears. “OWWWWW!! Are you trying rip off my ears, wench?!?” Inuyasha howled in pain.
“Well if you two weren’t going at each other’s throats every five seconds, I wouldn’t yank your ears. I’m the only one that’s keeping you two in line. Now, are we going to behave?” Inuyasha answered with a “Keh!” followed by “Yeah, sure.” Kikyo smiled and let go of their ears.
“Good. Problem solved. Kouga, you can go train if you like and Inuyasha can just do what ever he needs to.” She watched tem both go their separate ways. ‘Uhh, when will those two learn?’ she thought as a head ache formed.

“Okay, what do you think we should do now? My sense of sight, smell, and hearing just increased and my eye color changed, again. What else will be changing?” Having just eating breakfast, Kagome now stood in the clearing with her weapons at her side.
Let’s practice with the North blade. For this to work, you must breathe upon the blade itself, and then it will release healing flakes of snow. Now, stab your leg.
Kagome’s eyes widened. “Are you nuts? I’m not stabbing myself. It’ll hurt like a son of a bitch.”
True, but the healing snow will ease the pain and healing your wound almost instantly. It won’t even leave a scar. Kagome grimaced and took one of the other daggers. Taking a deep breath, she shoved the blade into her leg, digging deep until it reached bone. She then yanked it out with a muffled cry of pain, and then took out the Northern blade.
“Breath of healing!” she blew towards her leg and had been amazed when she saw small silver snowflakes gliding toward the wound. As soon as the first flake landed, instant relief flowed through her body. The blood flow had stopped and had already started to close the wound. “Amazing.” She mumbled.
Yes, it is quite remarkable. It can also produce blizzards and treacherous ice storms. Kagome stood and started to walk off the cool sensation that still lingered in her leg.
“So, now what? Should I practice with the West blade?” Kagome questioned, still adjusting to the coolness on her thigh.
Yes, go ahead.
Kagome took out the blade and was about to use it when something caught her eye. Never noticing it before, there had been an inscription on the blade. Quickly, she took out the others and noticed the same kind of writing. “Umm, I think I’m in need of a little history lesson here. What is this writing and what does it say?”
These blades have Elvin writing on them.
“Elvin?”
Yes, I think when these weapons were made; Elvin had been a rather popular language if not then the only language known about the land. I do not even think there had been wielders before you to carry these weapons.
“Okay, so what do they say?” Kagome asked as she held up the West blade.
‘He who holds and yields this blade controls the Earth and shall be the mighty warrior leader of the dwarves.’ This blade must’ve been made by the dwarves! Let me see the Northern blade. It says, ‘He who yields the Northern blade shall be the great healer and leader of the elves.’ The East blade was made by the mountain sages. It says, ‘He who yields the Eastern blade shall be the wise protector of all kind and leader of the Mountain Sages.’ The South blade is from the dragons. ‘He who yields this blade shall be the great dragon leader of the Southern Element Dragons.’
Kagome stared at all four blades and shrugged. “Oh well. I need to start training.” Without warning, she felt something pulse at her neck and instantly looked down at the small pink jewel. “What’s……Happening?” she said through bared teeth. A burst of bright pink light exploded from the jewel.
“Kagome Higurashi.” A feminine voice spoke from the light. “Open your eyes and look upon me.” Kagome’s eyes were shut so tight that Kagome was seeing bright lights behind them. Slowly but surely, she opened her eyes to find a woman in armor and miko robes underneath.
“Who…..are you?” Kagome forced. For some reason, she felt like the light was slowly killing her.
“I am the maker of the Shikon Jewel, Midoriko. For generations, I have been fighting the evil out of the jewel but now I cannot do it alone. You, the new protector of the Shikon Jewel, shall help me. You are great royalty now that you have acquired the four daggers of the compass. You will later realize their true form. I see you have also acquired the Jade blade. As of now you are on a mission, you are to defeat the evil that lurks in the future. This evil will kill all living things and will rule the world in their dark empire. You will be transferred into the future ten years from now. Beware, the future can be very dangerous and so will the knowledge that come with it. You will also kill all demons and humans that side with this evil.” Kagome’s eyes widened. Finally, she managed to gather her voice.
“The future? I can’t. I have a team that I must train with for the chunin exams.” Midoriko’s eyes narrowed.
“Fate has already chosen your path. You alone are the warrior to protect the world from evil. This evil is too great and it is being counted upon you to stop it. Do not seek advice from your demon voice; it will no longer be with you. The fate of a lone warrior is your destiny. No matter what you do, you cannot change destiny. Now, fulfill your mission!” Suddenly, Kagome felt her body growing rapidly. She watched as her arms and legs got longer and her breasts fuller. Pain pricked every inch of her body. Her head swam with headaches and dizziness. Not long after, she passed out, her body still writhing in the soft grass.
