Chapter 10

Kagome felt a strange dampness on her forehead. Her stomach whirled and she could taste the bile in the back of her throat. She could feel the aches and pains in her joints and muscles. She suddenly heard voices and instinctively tensed. “She is waking my lord.” Kagome’s vision was blurred. She could make out the feint outlines of the figure. He wore fur and had his hair in a high pony tail. She blinked several times before gaining her full vision. He was tall for a human, but then again, something was calling her, something that was coming from the blue-eyed stranger. She instantly got into a defensive stance, her eyes never leaving his. His lips curved into a smirk.

“Who are you and where am I?” she demanded, watching him as he gave out a small chuckle.

“I’m Kouga of the wolf demon tribe. You are in my cave.” Kagome’s brows raised in surprise, her eyes going wide as she looked around the cavern and noticed a couple dozen pairs of eyes staring back at her.

“Uh, hi?” she then looked back at the one called Kouga, his icy blue eyes watching her as if piercing through her bodily flesh and seeking her very soul. She didn’t like it at all. “I thank you for your hospitality, now I must leave.” She started to walk out toward the exit of the cave but Kouga blocked her path.

“Where ya going? I just took you into my cave and cared for your, tended your wounds and yet, you won’t give me a reward?” Her eyebrows furrowed.

“Firstly, I have no reward for you. Secondly, I have already thanked you and that should’ve been a reward in itself. Thirdly, I didn’t ask for your help in the first place, therefore, you only deserve my thanks.” With her demon speed, she ran past everyone in the cave and towards the second nearest river. Her head had begun to hurt at the thought of missing ten years of her life. Tears streamed from her eyes at all that she missed.

When she had reached the river, she immediately checked her appearance. She still had red knee length hair and emerald green eyes. Her facial features and markings had not changed either, but there was a tint of elderliness.
She looked a little older, more of a mature woman. She gasped when she had looked at her full image. She had breasts that were full; her hourglass shape had scandalized her body. Kagome sighed. “I have a feeling that my body will get me into all sorts of trouble.” She continued to stare into the water, her tail flicking every now and then.

“You’re absolutely right.” She instantly recognized the voice as Kouga’s. She whirled around and gave him a menacing look.

“I thought a simple thank you would be enough. Now could you just leave me alone?” It looked as if he pondered the thought.

“Nah! You have a lot of fire in you. I like that in a girl” He challenged.

“Well, I’m glad to hear that so, go find your fire girl so that I may be on my way.” He gave a small chuckle.

“There’s another thing I like about you. You’re feisty.” Kagome had definitely had enough of this. “Ethereal Crescents!” Kagome lunged at him as the white crescent moons struck their target. Instead of five hits, he only received two; one on his thigh, the other gashing his side. “You are a full demon, therefore you will heal quickly. A warning to you; that I reject you and do not want you as a mate.” And with that she left. As she looked towards the sky, she realized that the sun was about to set with its oranges, pinks and purples casting sunlight upon the hills and mountains. She looked at her attire and saw the spirit village symbol tied around her waist. She shook her head and tied it to her forehead, covering her Red Crescent moon. She then tore a piece of cloth from her shirt and tied it around her nose and mouth, covering her black stripes. Suddenly, someone came running through the trees toward her and bowed at her feet.

“Please, help my village. It’s under attack by a demon. It eats our horses and is looking to our children next. You must help us, great one.” Confusion settled in her mind but she quickly dismissed it and focused more on the situation at hand.

“Where is your village?” the man pointed north. With her senses, she finally smelled human blood and semi rotted meat. She also felt a strong demonic aura and dashed towards the village. The man hadn’t gotten far from the village to find her. She instantly saw the demon as she entered the burning village. Its lower body had been all centipede and its upper appeared human save for the six arms. Kagome saw it corner a little girl. “Golden Lotus Blades!!” The bright yellow blades had slashed its target to pieces. The head had not been separated from the boy so Kagome took out sword and sliced it clean off. She then struck the heart and was satisfied when the demon flesh had dried up and disintegrated. She cleaned the green blood off of her sword as the town’s people cheered. She took a minute to look at the damage done. Only half the village needed to be repaired. She looked toward the men and said “Tomorrow, I shall help you with your work. A lot is to be done but, nevertheless, you need it.” She turned and started to walk towards a comfortable looking tree but turned when one of the women spoke.

“Will you not stay at our inn? Tis the least we can do after you saved our village.” Kagome smiled at the thought of a soft bed.

“Thank you for your hospitality. I suppose it wouldn’t be a bad thing, after all, I do have a long journey ahead of me.” She watched the women smile and walked towards the inn to prepare her room.

Night turned to day as Kagome got set to work. She moved hay bales into their proper place and helped with most of the woodwork. By the end of the day, most of the village was done and she knew that they could now handle the matter. “Will you not stay one more night? You must be filthy from the work and must require a bath. Then you must rest for the new day.” An old woman told her. After much bickering, she agreed to stay. A woman came to wash her hair and bathe her in a lavender soap. Afterwards, a different woman brought her food. It wasn’t quite bad but nevertheless, good. With a now full stomach, sleep evaded her as she laid upon her futon.

Kagome was up at the crack of dawn and bid the people farewell. When she was now in the forest, she felt as if someone was watching her. Guessing that it was probably that wolf demon again, she simply ignored it and pressed on. Soon she stopped at a tree and listened for a slight rustle. She couldn’t pick up a thing. Her nose was telling her that she was being followed, just not by that wolf. This smell was like sandalwood and forest dirt. Oddly, the smell was quite familiar. Before she had jumped through time, the smell had reached her nose. She listened hard and could hear a heat beating rapidly. She lay down against the tree and pretended to nap. After what seemed like an hour, the heart beat slowed and had calmed down. She silently followed her nose up a tree and toward a figure way up high. When she finally reached the odor’s source, she thought she had recognized him. She moved silently toward him and examined him. He had silver waist length hair and puppy ears at the top of his head. His face was peaceful as he slept; a single fang stuck out from the corner of his mouth. He wore red hakamas with a white juban and a red haori. Something about his face reminded her of someone but she just couldn’t put her finger on it. She was now nose to nose with him. A white ear swiveled towards her; his eyes slowly opening to reveal golden honey colored irises. She backed away a little when he’d almost fell out of the tree. She let out a small giggle as he fought to stay on the branch. “Why were you following me?” She said darkly, her eyes narrowing and shooting menacing glares.

“Well, is that how you say hello to people?” Kagome could feel the anger bubbling inside her.

“Just answer the question!” He lowered his eyes into slits and glared. Kagome shook her head in aggravation. “Stop following me!” And with that said, she leapt out of the tree and continued on.

Dusk came and Kagome was getting tired and hungry. She stopped next to a little stream to build a fire and catch fish for her dinner. She settled herself into a small crook at the base of a tree and stared into the fire. Suddenly, the smell of rotten, dead, meat overwhelmed her. She then heard pounding footsteps coming closer to her. It swiped its claws but struck the tree as Kagome rolled away. “Ethereal Crescents!” The white blades hurled towards the demon and struck through it. Instead of the demon dying, it lunged at her and knocked her out with its giant paw. Before she fell unconscious, she caught a figure in red clad step in front of her and killed the youkai.

Kagome woke on her side with a something wet on her head. She hissed as somebody ran a rag to clean the wound. Kagome moaned as the pain grew, the cleaning stopped and she turned to see her rescuer. It was the same stranger who was following her. She reached to touch her face and realized that her mask was gone. She stared into his honey gold eyes. After a long silence, he finally spoke. “Are you alright?” she shook her head.

“All I remember was fighting that demon but it wouldn’t die. It should have died.”

“It’s dead now. That one was revived by Naraku.” She closed her eyes and felt her head. Her fingers revealed blood as she examined them. “You need to rest. Your wound needs cleaning.” Inuyasha bent down and started to lick the wound clean. Soon he saw signs of healing and left it alone to breathe.

“Who are you?” Inuyasha tilted his head but understood her confusion.

“It’s me, Inuyasha. You don’t remember me, do you?” A sudden realization hit her as she distinctly remembered one named Inuyasha Akanata.

Kagome nodded her head and asked “Akanata, right?” he nodded. She tried to sit up right but realized that she was in Inuyasha’s lap as he pushed her back down.

“You don’t need to be up and walking yet. How many times do I have to tell you to get some rest?” Inuyasha’s eyes furrowed. Kagome gave a slight smile of thanks and turned her attention toward the fire.

“Who is Naraku?” Inuyasha looked down at her and studied her.

“How about you answer my question first? Where have you been for the last ten years?” Kagome turned to him in confusion.

“I-I don’t know.” Tears stung her eyes as she remembered the last time she saw everyone. “The jewel,” she felt for the small, round pink jewel and was relieved when she found it hanging around her neck. “The jewel had a person trapped inside. She said that she had been battling evil for a very long time and needed someone to aid her for the terrible evil that will come.” Inuyasha looked down at the faintly glowing jewel and gasped.

“The Shikon Jewel.” He whispered. Kagome’s eyes went wide as she spoke.

“You know of the Shikon Jewel?” Inuyasha lowered his ears.

“Yeah, my mother told me stories of the jewel and its maker Midoriko. She said that the jewel was indeed real so I gave myself a goal. I decided to find the jewel and use it to turn myself into a full demon. Humans would fear me more than other demons.” He looked down and saw the tears in Kagome’s eyes. “What’s wrong?” he said as he wiped the tears away.

“I was thinking of my mom.” Anger now replaced the sadness as the sudden urge of revenge flowed through her veins. Her emerald eyes turned to a silvery green. “I’m heading out first thing tomorrow.” Inuyasha glared.

“Your head wound won’t heal by then.”

“You forget that I am full demon, I’ll heal over night.” She rolled away from him and settled on the other side of the fire, making sure she was a good distance away.
