Chapter 16
“Get the fuck away from me!” Kagome growled.
“Is that any way you speak to a superior?” Kagome stopped struggling as her temper rose to dangerous levels.
“You miserable piece of shit! You call yourself superior when in my book you’re lower than a lizard youkai. The last I expected was for you to be working for Naraku and Orochimaru. Now I’ll gladly kill you!” Kouga bent down to her ear and whispered “Naraku’s simyosho watches. They are expecting me to follow through with their plan. You have to help me.” She suddenly froze and very faintly, she heard the beat of insect wings and smelled the scent of miasma. She gave a little nod and reached for her South dagger and swiftly plunged it into Kouga’s gut. As the wolf dropped, the simyosho came to retrieve his body but Kagome killed them off, and then turned back to the wolf. Thankfully he was still breathing so Kagome took out her North blade and pointed it towards his wound.
“Healing snow.” She said as white snowflakes poured from the blade and into the wound. In minutes, he was healed and thanked her as she healed her side. “So you weren’t working for them. What were you doing?” Kagome drawled out. Kouga’s brows came together in aggravation.
“They sent a smaller group than this to my den. They stand guard to keep my pack in. One of Naraku’s puppets came and gave me a choice to follow him or suffer my pack’s slaughter. I had no choice. I thank you for helping me but I have to go. I have to leave before they pick off my pack one by one.” Kouga turned and was about to run off when he felt Kagome’s gentle hand glide over his back and rest on his shoulder.
“Let me come with you. You’ll need help in your quest.” Kouga opened his mouth to say something but was interrupted by Inuyasha.
“Get the fuck away from her mutt face!!” Inuyasha quickly jumped in front of them and pulled Kagome behind him. “What the hell do you want?” Kagome felt her temper rising as she pushed Inuyasha out of the way.
“As I was saying before, I’ll go with whether you agree or not. Now come on and hurry up.” Both Kouga and Kagome turned toward the trees and walked off.
“Hey!! Does any one wanna tell me what the hell is going on?!?” Inuyasha yelled after them. “Fine! Go kill yourselves!” He yelled when he was met with silence.

“So, is this the only reason why you went to Naraku?” Kagome asked as they looked down from the waterfall. Down below they saw several humans at the bottom and a couple of demons on the small ledges on either side of the waterfall.
“Yes; the humans would be easy to take out. It’s the demons I worry about.” Kouga soon voiced his worries. Kagome shook her head at his statement.
“No, those humans will be harder to take out than any other. From what I see, they have no life in them. Look at the way they walk and they reek of graveyard soil and death.” Kouga took a second look at the humans and realized that she was right.
“Now that you mention it, they do walk kind of funny.”
“They also smell of poison. I’m guessing that if we pierce them open, miasma will leak out of them. We must be careful.” Kagome hypothesized. Kouga nodded in agreement.
“We’ll have to kill the demons first before taking on the undead. I don’t want my pack to be harmed.”
“I don’t think I can guarantee the total safety of your pack the way you think I can. Some of your pack members may lose their lives. I’m hoping that you are ready to accept that.” Kagome said reminding him that her abilities only go so far. Kouga closed his eyes and took a deep breath. ‘Of course he wouldn’t be ready to accept his pack members’ death. Wolves cherished and held dear to their pack mates. He cherishes his pack mates so much that he believed them to be like family even if they weren’t. I’m guessing as Alpha male in his pack, he would be responsible for any of his pack mates’ deaths. If any of his pack members lose their lives in this, the wolf council would frown upon him and think he would be unable to protect and provide for his pack, therefore, might lower his status or might have to be an outcast. If Kouga had any problems before this, he would definitely be lowered to either Beta or Omega. I know he can’t risk any more lives but this is a necessary risk to take if he wants most of them to live.’ Kagome thought. “Kouga, you must remain focused if you don’t want to lose. I know it’s hard to accept death, believe me when I say I know.” Kagome placed a hand over the small pink jewel, and then looked back at him. “You’ll have to have confidence in me and in yourself that you can save your pack. The demons are looking a little tired. It’s now or never, Kouga. Let’s go.” Kagome silently got up and took out her sword; then jumped on one of the ledges on the side of the waterfall. The demon smirked as Kagome readied her sword.
“I was wondering when you were going to come down. Hmm, a little puppy has come to play with me, interesting.” The demon taunted.
“Don’t kid yourself! Your taunts do not faze me!” Kagome growled as she looked him up and down. He had a large egg shaped head with barely any hair. He wore dark blue hakamas with a green juban and a long sleeve dark blue haori (AU: but the haori sleeves were tighter like a jacket if you will).
“Ha! You think you can defeat me with a mere toothpick of a sword? I, Manten of the sky and controller of thunder, shall do away with you!” Manten roared.
“Kagome, behind you!” Kouga warned. Kagome spun around in time to see another demon walk out of the shadows.
“If there’s one thing I do hate, it’s demons that spend most of their battle monaloging!” Kagome said; keeping an eye on both demons. Out of the corner of her eye, she watched the second demon look into her eyes. She turned to him, keeping an eye on the only called Manten.
“Hiten! What are you waiting for? Kill her!” Manten ordered, his white skin wrinkling with rage. Hiten stood there staring at Kagome, his red eyes looking into green. Kagome lowered her sword but not low enough to leave her vulnerable. She watched his pitch black hair flow in the breeze while the sound of his purple hakamas and green juban with a sleeveless purple haori stir in the wind. Finally he lowered his eyes and turned to Manten.
“I’m sorry brother, but I can’t continue on like this.” Hiten said quietly. Manten stumbled backward, taken aback by hearing his brother’s words.
“Why are you betraying me? Not only are you betraying me but Orochimaru and Naraku as well!!!” Manten screamed. Hiten shook his head.
“I never wanted to fight in the first place. When Naraku’s puppet came to us, you immediately dragged me along with you because of your hunger to kill. If anyone is betraying some one, it’s you who betrayed me.” Hiten said sternly. Manten’s brows drew together with anger, his gaze flickering towards Kagome, then back to his brother.
“You’ve gone soft on me! No matter, if you won’t kill her, I will!” Manten roared as he lifted his head and called forth the lightening. Kagome watched as a yellow glow formed in his mouth and started straight towards her. Quickly, she jumped away as the bolt slammed into the ground. As Kagome dodged away from another lightening attack, another hit her straight on while she had been distracted with the previous one. She suddenly felt a wave of electricity surge through her body. Kouga stood at the top of the waterfall, watching Kagome writhe on the forest floor. Little leftover electric shocks went through her, causing her to twitch every now and then.
‘Damn it! Two thunder youkai, one good and one evil and both are brothers! How typical! Pull yourself together Kagome or you’ll be going home as an entre!’ Kagome thought as she slowly got up, reaching for her sword as she did. “I could use a little help here Kouga!” Kagome yelled as she stared at Manten viciously. Kouga didn’t come down, he wasn’t even there! ‘Oh next time I see that bastard, I’m gonna kill him!’ Kagome dodged another lightening attack.
“Stop moving so I can kill you quickly!” Manten threatened.
“Ha! I’d like to see you try!” Kagome growled as she dodged yet another attack. “Hiten, I need your help if you are on my side!” Kagome yelled.
“I can’t Kagome. He’s my brother, my flesh and blood! I can’t kill him.” Hiten reasoned. As she stared at him, Kagome didn’t see the lightening bolt hurdling towards her. Instead of hitting her body, the strike aimed its path at the small pink jewel around her neck. Kagome screamed as large amounts of pain erupted from her neck and spine, arching back her head in agony. Though no one saw it, a single shard from the jewel flew into the bushes. Kagome, shakily, remained standing.
“Don’t take…….this personally Hiten. I have no choice……I must kill…..him if…..you refuse to.” She managed to say as she looked into his eyes for approval. Though it was brief, the hesitation was there no doubt. After looking at his brother one last time, Hiten closed his eyes and nodded his approval, shocked tears slipping away from their sire at the realization of what he was doing. Kagome turned warily to face Manten, her eyes just beginning to glaze over as darkness flirted with her vision. Kagome raised the sword over her head with both hands, all the while staring menacingly at Manten. “JADE BLADE!!!!!” The silvery look of the blade suddenly turned a violent green with an even darker green glow. Kagome swiped the air in front of her and watched as the sword unleashed green electric-looking bolts at Manten. The bolts hit their target; then surged toward the sky as if they ricocheted off of the thunder demon. Manten chuckled.
“Is that all you’ve got? That little attack felt like a bee sting!” Kagome’s eyes began to glow a dark green as Manten continued to laugh. She narrowed her glowing eyes as she leaned against her sword.
“It’s not ……over…yet.” She whispered hoarsely. A load roar could be heard from above as the sky began to glow an eerie green. Suddenly a large bird erupted from the clouds and dove toward Manten. As the green creature neared Manten, it became thinner; its wings folded in and became a large green lightening bolt. It came at him fast and struck him before he could scream.
“Manten!” Hiten screamed as the glow began to recede. He tried to run to his now dead brother but Kagome held out her sword to stop him.
“Do not go to him.” The glow had already disappeared from the body, leaving Hiten shocked at the damage. The bolt of light had actually been a long rod-like, solid jade. It had gone straight through Manten but had the top of the jade poking out of the top of his head. Kagome had to guess that as soon as the rod struck Manten, it released large spikes from the center of his body which now stuck out of his body’s middle. From the corner of her eye, she watched Hiten drop to his knees with tears in his eyes, his lightening staff rolling out of his hands. Slowly, she turned to him and grasped his hand in hers. “I’m sorry it ended this way. I never wanted to kill him Hiten.” Kagome had tried to sooth him but only silence had answered her as he kept staring at his brother. Shakily, she stood and propped herself up with her sword. “I will give you time alone with him.” As she turned, she felt a vice grip on her ankle.
“He was tricked into joining this. At the time, he was so depressed that his hair wouldn’t grow back. When his hair started to fall out, all the women he would try and take would want no part of him, thinking of him as getting old. One day, Naraku’s puppet came and made an offer Manten couldn’t refuse. He said he’d do anything to help. Later that night, he tried to talk me into coming with him. He pushed me into coming. At least he will be in peace now and won’t be corrupted by Naraku’s evil deeds.” Hiten explained. Even though she couldn’t see his face, she could feel the hurt in his eyes; feel the heat of his gaze on her back.
“We should go. We must get the pack out of here.” Kagome ushered. Hiten stood and turned to fully face her, confusion evident on his face.
“We weren’t guarding any pack. We were guarding the back end of the army. We were also searching for you.” Kagome’s eyes were wide with shock and anger.
“THAT TRAITOR!!!!!!!” she screamed. Hiten nodded, knowing who she was referring to. Kagome turned around and started to limp off towards the trees, following Kouga’s scent. “I’m going after that bastard!” Hiten grabbed her shoulder to hold her back.
“You are injured. You can’t go after him in your current state.” He tried to reason but Kagome had twisted out of his grip, taking out her healing dagger and held it out in front of her face.
“Healing snow.” She whispered as she felt the familiar cool air surround her. Hiten watched white snow surround her and heal all of her wounds almost instantly. She tucked the blade away and sheathed her sword. She gave an unlady like snort towards Hiten and walked off to follow the scent once again. Kagome followed the trail a mile before it led her to a small stream, no doubt that the stream was one of many to branch off of the actual river. She narrowed her eyes at the foolish thought of him losing her with the river. The stream had been waist deep, perfect for someone to go down stream and lose the hunter. She looked to the ground and analyzed the trampled grass that stopped right before the river’s edge. She breathed deeply and smelled moisture in the air. She then looked to the leaves of nearby trees that hung over the stream. Water dripped from their points. It hadn’t rained for quite some time so he must’ve jumped in. Kagome took another deep breath, her eyes snapping open and running at top speed left, following the river down stream.

“Your loyalty is evident and well known. I must congratulate you for managing to get a Shikon shard. I am grateful.” Naraku praised. Kouga smirked.
“You flatter me too much, my lord. Really it was nothing but trickery.” Kouga replied.
“Ah! But, you have achieved a great deal by getting this shard. Thanks to you, I can continue my plan without any interruptions. Feel free to relax with some of my personal assistance. They will be sure to fill your every need. Naraku soothed.
“I couldn’t possibly, my lord, have special assistance. It is not….” “No, please. Enjoy.” Naraku cut in.
Kouga bowed with a “Yes, my lord” and watched Naraku fly off with his simyosho in tow.

“She WHAT!!!!??!?” Inuyasha and Sasuke shouted in unison. Both males glowered at the thunder demon.
“She is hunting Kouga. What do you not understand?” Hiten repeated calmly.
“Why didn’t you go after her?!?” Sasuke gritted through his clamped teeth.
“It is not my place to go after her. I don’t have the tracking abilities as Inuyasha has and so, I figured I’d ask you.” Hiten looked between Inuyasha and Sasuke.
“Yeah well, how do we know that this isn’t some hair brained scheme of yours to lure us away from the village and kill our women?” Inuyasha ranted. Hiten blew out a harsh breath.
“I intend to accompany you in search for her. Did you really think that I would stay behind and let you be her knight in shining armor? Ha! I don’t think so!” Sasuke put a hand on Inuyasha’s shoulder, in case if he decided to rip a certain thunder demon to shreds.
“Well then, what the hell are we just waiting around here for? Sasuke, stay here until we get back. You are the village leader; we can’t risk you getting killed. Let’s go Hiten.” With out letting Sasuke get the chance to object, Inuyasha dashed off with Hiten trailing behind.

“Kouga!!! ” Kagome yelled. The scent had finally led her to a cave covered by trees and brush in a valley. When she was answered with silence, she entered the cave and suddenly heard a loud howl. Her nose was filled with the scent of lust, desire and sex. She snorted softly and soon found the wolf on a pile of furs with a woman underneath him. She hid in the shadows and soon realized that this woman wasn’t human, but a wind witch. Kagome silently stepped away from the darkness with her sword drawn.
“I thought you’d come after me. You must be pretty good at tracking, my small gem.” Kouga said breathlessly, standing to face her.
“Save your antics and flattery! They may work for your gullible Naraku but they do not faze me!” Kagome growled, keeping a precious eye on the wind witch. She heard Kouga give a low chuckle.
“Woman, I was never on your side in the first place! Granted, I used you and the people around me but hey, that’s business. I had to achieve my objective and I succeeded. I have been rewarded greatly.” Kouga watched as Kagome neared them, occasionally flickering her gaze toward the woman behind him.
“And what was you objective Kouga? Was it to kill me?” Kagome said cautiously.
“I wouldn’t dream of killing a beautiful piece of work like you. That would be a waste of pleasure. And I do intend to have my piece of pleasure from you.” He said huskily.
“Not even in your dreams Kouga. Now tell me what your objective was!” she said sarcastically. Kouga raised his hands to calm her.
“Okay, alright. That whole pack thing; yeah, that was an illusionary piece of bait. You know Kagome, if you can’t see your victims, then it’s not worth risking your life. Manten was the only demon, besides his brother, to free a piece of the jewel you now wear around your neck.”
“That is impossible! No one can diffuse this jewel.” Kagome interrupted.
“You might want to rethink that fact. Look at you necklace and you tell me that I’m wrong.” Kouga interjected. Kagome glared at him while she pulled the jewel from under her clothes. Quickly, she examined every inch of the small pink jewel and gasped when she found a small fragment missing from its side.
“Where….is…my….FRAGMENT!!!” Kagome roared, her temper rose and her anger flared. The wind witch reached for her fan, in case it got ugly.
“Your fragment is with Naraku and Orochimaru. It is now impossible to retrieve it.” The witch spoke up.
Kagome bared her teeth and growled “Shut up, witch. You are just some whore he picked up. What would you know?”
“I am more than what you see. You shouldn’t judge me from a first hand look.” She warned.
“You are one of Naraku’s assistants aren’t you?” Kagome asked. The witch only smiled. “No matter, I’m going to kill this bastard before he sees the light of day!” Kagome said as the witch stood and walked to her side.
“I will assist you.” Was all she said, and then turned at the stunned wolf.
“You are a traitor Kagura! If Naraku ever found out that you have ever turned against me….”
“Naraku promised that his personal assistant would take good care of you did he not? I’ve done the good, now I’ll take care of you. He only wanted to use you as a pawn in this little scheme.” Kagome cut in. Her eyes a pupilless red, her smile wicked and twisted.
“Well then, you do the honors. I just wiped out an army and killed a thunder demon. I’ve killed enough for one day.” Kagome said coolly, leaning against the rock wall.
Kagura opened her fan and said “Dance of Blades” as crescent white lights flew towards Kouga.
After the blood had flowed from the body, Kagome turned a curious eye on Kagura. “Usually elemental youkai don’t take orders from any one. What is a wind witch like you doing with Naraku and Orochimaru?”
“What you speak of is true. Naraku controls me with my heart.” Kagura explained. Kagome cocked her head to the side, obviously confused by the lack of information.
“So, you’re in love with him?” Kagome asked to reassure her suspicions. Kagura choked on her own breath.
“In his dreams. I could never love a vial half breed. He has my heart in a jar. If I fail on one of my missions or try to betray him, he will take my heart and squeeze it until it stops beating. I don’t think I can be free from such a fate.” Kagura sat after pulling her clothes on and put away her fan.
“Are there simyosho nearby?” Kagome asked.
Kagura shook her head. “Not that I know of. Naraku wouldn’t send them just to watch me rut with that wolf.” Kagome was now lost, stuck between two choices. She could trust Kagura to be a spy for them or she could kill her now and not get any information on Orochimaru and Naraku’s plans. She seemed reasonable. She said she wanted to be free of Naraku’s grasp so that could be her leverage. It was risky but Kagome had to take the chance. She needed inside information and quick. Kagome sighed in frustration.
“I have a proposition if you’re interested.” That caught Kagura’s attention and she knew that Kagura gave her undivided attention. “I need inside information on those two; I need to know their weaknesses. I want you to be a counter spy for me. You don’t give anyone else the information and you come straight to me. Give me strict facts, truths, and nothing else.”
“And what do I receive in return?” Kagura asked anxiously.
“I will ensure your freedom. I swear on my very soul to give you your freedom.” Kagome swore. She watched Kagura ponder the offer. “Do we have a deal?”
Author’s note: Cliffy!!! Sorry I didn’t post the pairings but here they are now (mind you that these are suggestions):
Kagome/Hiten/Naruto or Kagome/Neji/Naruto (I like either one so I’ll let you decide)
Sasuke/Hinata (I thought that if I put Sasuke with Hinata that he’ll end up much happier than he is now)
Itachi/Kikyo (I just thought they were right for each other)
Sango/Miroku (sorry but they are just too perfect for each other and I just couldn’t resist)
Inuyasha/Sakura (They definitely match up in temper wise)
Sesshomaru/Ino (remember that Sakura and Ino are in their mid twenties now)
Neji/Kanna (Kanna isn’t her usual silent character, she’s more talkative and more of a warrior, also is 19)
Shikamaru/OOC
Shino/Rin (I haven’t a clue why I put these two together but now that I think about it, they will look good together)
Kagura/OOC
And then I don’t know about Lee, Kakashi, and Choji cause I ran out of girls for them but I will find them soon.
Please understand that I didn’t want to put Inuyasha character with other Inuyasha characters because I wanted it to be switched up or changed around and make every thing seem interesting. Hope you guys like the pairings and thanks to all of you for the reviews.
