Chapter 18

Three days later……..

“Kagome, if you do not mind me asking, where are we headed?” Neji looked at her as she prodded the fire.

“We are going to the Edoc’sil Forest. I plan on meeting someone there.” Kagome replied. Suddenly, there was a loud scream that echoed across the camp. Instincts took over as Kagome raced just outside the camp ground and into the clearing with a hot springs. She frantically looked around to find the source of the screaming. Relief flooded back into her as she saw Sango and Sakura. Sango’s face was red with rage as she pummeled a perverted monk while Sakura stood terrified.

“What happened here?” Sango’s father asked, his rage filled his eyes befallen onto the unconscious monk to the outraged Sango.

“Do not worry; it is only a public dispute in which I personally will rid the problem.” Kagome said calmly, looking to the monk with angered eyes. “Please, get some rest. I will resolve this mess.” Kagome saw him hesitate but gradually turned back toward camp. “So,” Kagome began as Miroku awakened. “Which one of you wants to tell me why all the screaming?”

“This perverted monk was spying on us while we bathed! I aught to decapitate his second head for such a thing!!” Sango shouted. Kagome walked between Miroku and Sango, preventing the demon slayer to cause any more damage.

“Miroku, wouldn’t you like to explain you situation?” Kagome looked to the mink.

“I cannot explain my actions.” Miroku answered.

“Fine, well, I guess you and I shall take a little walk. Ladies, please get back to your baths then retire for the night. Sakura, I will come by later to speak with you.” Kagome explained as she looked at the women. Sakura still clenched her towel and nodded while Sango had held her towel with a clenched fist. “Come Miroku. We will talk.” Sango watched the two as they disappeared into the forest.

“Do you think it is safe to bathe now?” Sakura asked.

“Yeah, now that Kagome has taken him deep into the forest. I HOPE YOU FALL INTO QUICKSAND, YOU PERVERT!!!!” Sango yelled out the last part and knew she was heard.

“You should not wish for such an ill to befall onto someone. Karma is a fearsome thing.” Sakura retorted.

“Yeah well, if karma is so horrid, why hasn’t it been caught up with me?” Sango practically yelled.

“Karma has away with interrupting us at our weakest moment. Whether it be good or bad, karma brings you news through another’s eyes.”

“What in god’s….”

“Just remember those words and you’ll figure it out when it finally confronts you face to face.” Sakura interrupted her. Sango watched Sakura leave with a smile on her face.

‘What the hell is that supposed to mean?’ Sango thought aggressively.

Meanwhile , some where in the forest, Miroku and Kagome walked to a quite and peaceful clearing; the night sky and darkness surrounded them. “Miroku, I am starting to doubt myself. Half the time I don’t even know what I’m doing. Answer me truthfully. Of the week that you’ve known me, do I make a good leader and commander of these people?” Kagome looked at him as she sat on the forest floor, Miroku following her.

“Kagome-sama, you are an excellent leader and you have made the right decisions that lead you here. If you know that you are a good leader, then why ask me?” He watched her inhale deep and let the breath of her flow out of her lungs like the roaring free wind.

“I need to be reassured that I’m making decisions that are best for this group.” Miroku looked her in the eye and found a deep sadness ebbing away the calm happiness that he saw before.

“If I may ask, Kagome-sama, what are you so down about? Perhaps you have suffered like the rest of us?” Kagome looked up at him and smiled, trying to blink away the tears that threatened to surface. The last thing she needed right now was pity. She didn’t like to be pitied and hated when people talked about her dilemmas behind her back.

“If I tell you, Miroku, promise me that you will not pity me. Promise that you will not speak of this to anyone.” Miroku nodded.

“Kagome-sama, I am one of problem solving and a good listener. Such information will be with only me and will be carried to my grave.” Kagome sighed heavily.

“Miroku, I have suffered just as much as you have. Everyone that you have met so far has their dilemmas. I have mine. The people you’ve met have either suffered from a long term loss or a short term loss. Most of those people have suffered from a loss that that happened long ago. I am one of those who suffer from recent losses. I have been through more horrible things than any of the people you have met, everyone except for the one hanyou Inuyasha. I admire him a great deal and I have a lot of respect for him. He has lived a life exactly like mine up until ten years ago. He, like all of the other people, went through the war; beginning, middle, and not the end. He has suffered his whole life like I have. You have no idea of what I’ve been through lately.” She looked at him and saw in his eyes that he understood every bit that she was going through.

“You know that I am listening.” He prodded gently.

“Only a couple of weeks ago, I had finally gotten out of the academy for ninjas and on my way to becoming a Genin but then things started to change. I passed in front of a jeweler’s shop and saw the most beautiful jewel I had ever seen. The jeweler told me to protect it with my life. He called it the Shikon no Tama, The Sacred Jewel of Four Souls. At first, I didn’t understand until it awakened the demon inside of me, then I knew that no one could have this cursed object.” She saw Miroku’s eyes widen.

“The Shikon Jewel? Kagome, that jewel had been made in the very same village that Sango was from. This is how the demon slayers originated, how they came to be.”

“I know Miroku. It is that very same jewel that transported me here, 10 years into the future. It sounds crazy but it’s the truth. If it weren’t for Midoriko, I would have been fighting along side Naruto.” Kagome fought her tears back and blew out a deep breath.

“I am assuming that you have had a relationship with this Naruto.” Miroku mentioned. Kagome giggled slightly.

“No, I never had a relationship with Naruto. He was my friend, my family, and I wished for him to be my partner. I loved him very much and I still do. I just wish that Midoriko hadn’t have picked me.” Miroku put his hand on his chin in thought.

“Indeed, it has seemed that you have been through quite a lot but you need not to worry, Kagome-sama; you have done what’s best for us and we appreciate your sacrifices.” Kagome smiled and took out her wind dagger.

“You are very wise, Miroku. I sincerely appreciate your guidance and company. If I may ask, will you be in this with me? Will you be in this war through thick and thin, no matter what?”

“Of course I will, but why would you need a reassurance of that?” Miroku asked. Kagome looked at the dagger and back to Miroku. Her decision had been made as she handed him her weapon.

“Take this and keep it with you at all times. If you are going to be in this war, then you will be apart of it’s leading. Once you accept this you will be on every mission that I am on. I assure you that it will be very dangerous at times.” Kagome warned.

“I would be honored Kagome-sama, but what do you mean by apart of its leading?” Miroku said as he held the weapon in his hand.

“You will see soon enough. Come, Miroku. We must get back to camp.” Kagome helped him up and off they walked.

The moon shone on the stone and wood ruins as a shadowy figure over looked the graveyard. The night was eerily quiet as the figure approached a massive tombstone. Sitting cross legged on the ground, he did a numerous amount of hand signs and chanted. He watched silently as the tomb began to shake violently. Suddenly, the ground started to split as a rotted hand appeared , clawing at the earth around it.

“Arise!” The dark figure urged as an arm followed the hand. Soon the body itself stood in front of the tombstone, clothes ripped and flesh decayed. The man stepped into the moonlight and, ever so carefully, retrieved the Shikon shard. He walked around the decaying body and implanted the shard into its back along the spinal cord. Quickly, the flesh immediately started to regenerate followed by the skin, hair, eyes and finally clothes. After the transformation, there stood a 16 year old boy; the light of the moon shining brightly on his yellow hair and somewhat pale skin. The man snapped his fingers in front of the boy making him jump back in shock. He watched the boy paste himself against the large tombstone and wildly looked around.

“Where am I?” The boy said, frightened at the fact that he was alone in the night.

“You are in the Konoha Graveyard and that is your tombstone.” The man replied. The boy turned around and read the inscription. After a while he started shaking his head.

“No! Leave me to rest in peace!” The man chuckled.

“There is no escaping me. You are now controlled by Naraku and are to follow me back to his castle.” The boy narrowed his eyes and put up a fighting stance.

“I will not let that monster use me as his puppet to do his bidding.” The shadowed man raised his hand and snapped his fingers.

“You will now.” Instantly, the boys eyes turned into a pupilless blue as he nodded at the command.
