Chapter 19
The Rise of the Nine Tails

“I must speak with you alone. I will not take long.” Kagome looked at him in a menacing demeanor as she held Miroku behind her back. The dai-youkai stood in front of her, unfazed by her acts of challenges. Reluctantly she relaxed and nodded to Miroku in dismissal.

“Tell the others to stay put if I am gone longer than intended.” Miroku nodded and left the two demons alone. Kagome took the chance to examine him once more, and then his name suddenly struck her. “Sesshomaru isn’t it? How may I be of service, my lord?” Sesshomaru’s stoic cold mask was set in place as he spoke.

“I am here to train you in your demon powers as well as sword play.” Kagome laughed and clutched her stomach as she leaned against a tree.

“You’re kidding right?” When she was met with silence is when she looked him in the eye. “Right?”

“I never joke with such things. Jokes are for nuisances with no respect. I assure you that I am quite serious.” He said in a monotonous way.

“So…what? You’re just going to tag along with us enable for me to train with you?” She watched him glare before he answered.

“If that is necessary to see that you are properly trained then I suppose so.” Kagome’s emerald green eyes widened at the thought of training with the cold heartless bastard himself.

“Why do you want to train me?” Sesshomaru gave her a ghost of a smile.

“If you are to fight in this war, you will lead your armies as a leading youkai should. I merely do not wish for you to be a disgrace to youkai everywhere when it comes to fight on your own.” Kagome felt her temper rise at his sorry statement.

“What would you know you heartless bastard!?!? I already know how to fight. I made you bleed ten years ago, I can do so now!” Sesshomaru gave her a cocky grin. All she wanted now was to slap that grin right off of his gorgeous face.

“If you can make me bleed again this time, I will not offer my services and but fight in your army as a soldier. If you can not, you will take my services and let me be the one to ride beside you as we fight.” Sesshomaru offered.

“You have yourself an accord.” Kagome agreed. Sesshomaru took out Tokijin and faced her with his sword at the ready.

“Since you have beaten me in my true form, try to beat me in swordsmanship.” Kagome nodded and took out her Jade blade. As soon as their blades had touched, Sesshomaru jumped and quickly landed behind her, swiping as he went by. Kagome blocked every strike then countered with one of her own. He easily dodged the attack and swept his foot along the ground, causing Kagome to lose her footing and tumble to land on her back. Kagome had tried to roll away but Sesshomaru had been quicker and pounced, landing on top of her with his legs straddling his hips. This had prevented any movement with her legs. Kagome swiped with one of her daggers but Sesshomaru easily knocked it out of her hands. He then pinned her hands above her head to the forest floor. There was only one thing left to do so she unwrapped her tail as fast as she could and tried to throw him off. He countered her movement with his own tail and both had twisted and tangled on the ground next to them. He then took Tokijin and pressed the blade to her neck. “You have just died, Kagome. Now you must uphold your end of the deal.” His face had been cold all the while, showing no emotions as he stared into her eyes.

“Fine, I’ll let you train me but can you at least get off of me?” Kagome replied, giving him a cold stare. After a while had passed, he finally got up and untangled his tail from hers.

“We will start our training in the morning.” He said before disappearing into the trees.

‘Well that’s just great. More time with the cold hearted bastard.’ She thought as she walked back to camp.

“Kagome? You wished to speak with me?” Sakura asked as the demon neared. Kagome looked at her then nodded as they both walked into a tent.

“Sakura, you are a medical ninja, no?” Kagome asked as she settled herself.

“Yes, that is what I’ve always wanted to do. I was trained by the Hokage-sama herself.” Sakura answered. Kagome narrowed her eyes.

“Her? What happened to the third Hokage?”

“He died in his old age a year ago. After that, they appointed Lady Tsunade as the Fifth Hokage.”

Kagome furrowed her brows. She knew of the one called Tsunade, the legendary Sanin. She definitely knew of the three Sanin, greatest that ever lived. Some said they died but Kagome thought otherwise, especially since one of them turned evil. “Orochimaru.” She whispered, feeling sick when the name rolled off her tongue. After those two were Jiriya, the third Sanin. Some said that he was the greatest of the three but Kagome knew what rumors could turn into. It didn’t surprise her that Tsunade was excellent in the medical field. She was known to the world as the greatest medical ninja that ever lived and she even argued with the council that every squad that went on a mission should have at least one medical ninja if things should turn to shit. For sometime it had worked but something happened to make the program stop. Besides the medical part of her life, Tsunade was also known for her inhuman strength and her terrible habit for gambling. Kagome still couldn’t believe that Tsunade became Hokage. Kagome looked to Sakura. If she had been trained by the legendary Sanin herself then she knew that Sakura must’ve gained some impressive skills in healing.

“Sakura, since you have trained as a medical ninja, I must assume that you have impressing skills.” Sakura suddenly looked to the ground. She wasn’t extremely skilled at medicine but she did have skills.

“Well, I’m nowhere near as powerful as the Hokage but she taught me many things that I would think would help in this crisis. Sasuke says I’m the best medic in three villages and I intend to live up to the reputation.” Kagome smiled and took out her north dagger, turning it this way and that. She would not give this to Sakura yet, first she had to prove herself. Kagome put the dagger away breaking the awkward silence that had set between them. Kagome nodded and stood.

“Well, I must be going. We have a long day ahead of us tomorrow.”

“Good night Kagome.” Sakura said as Kagome walked out the door. Once a good ways away from the camp, Kagome sighed heavily and dropped to the ground.

“What else could possibly go wrong?” Kagome said as she stared into the never ending sky, fingering her necklace and rolling the jewel between her fingers.

“You have no idea how many things could go wrong at once.” A husky voice said from within the trees. Kagome just sat there, not caring at all.

“What is it that you want now?” she said without looking back. Itachi emerged from the trees and stood an arm’s length behind her.

“I want you to give up on this quest to defeat them. It’s foolish and you have no idea what he has in store for you.”

“And I suppose you do? Are you being a double spy or are you just fucking around?” Kagome responded, anger evident in her voice.

“It is you who is fucking around, Kagome, or have you forgotten your little session with Sasuke?” Itachi retorted. Kagome turned to face him and swiped her claws through the air, golden blades emerging from them and slashing Itachi across the chest. She was so angry that she didn’t even have to call out her Ethereal Crescents but just summon them and let the power flow through her fingers. She looked to Itachi’s chest as it bled horribly but when she looked at his face, he showed no emotion, no signs of pain, not even in his eyes.

“You stay away from me.” She said, her teeth bared in warning. “Lust is lust and is not to be taken seriously. It does not matter what I’ve done with Sasuke or not. This is a war and Sasuke is the least of my problems……for now.” Itachi narrowed his eyes.

“Would you dare to hurt my little brother?” Kagome laughed at this.

“This coming from some one who murdered his entire clan in front of him? Please, I think worrying over me would be the least of his problems, at least when he finds out who killed them.”

“He thinks I am dead.” Itachi retorted.

“Less I should tell him otherwise. Either way, before this war ends, you will see both of us standing over you as you die. Hell, I could kill you right now and save me the trouble but what satisfaction would Sasuke have?” Kagome dusted off her hands and sighed.

“There are far worse fates than death.” He said before he got up and disappeared. After leaving, Itachi turned to the resurrected boy and smirked. “You know what to do.” The mindless boy nodded and shifted shape. Chakra burst through the trees and a feral growl emerged from the large demon above.

Kagome’s eyes widened when she heard the growl. She then raced towards the campsite shouting “Get up!!! Run!! RUN!!!!” She watched as Sakura slowly rose as did the others.

“Kagome-sama, what seems to be the problem?” Miroku asked lazily.

“You fools!! Do you not feel it? Hurry and climb on my back! All of you!” Another loud roar echoed through the air. Kagome quickly shifted into her enormous red dog form and hurriedly threw each on her back by her teeth. She then saw Kirara transform and float in the air. Kagome looked behind her and saw what she feared it to be.

‘The nine tailed fox….’
