With those words, the waves crashed down upon you, sending you into spirals, churning you around. You didn't dare to open you eyes under the water, but something told you otherwise. You opened them. Getting a sense of where you were, which was at the bottom of the lake, fishes and other creatures flew past your face with each blink. You needed air fast, so you started to swim up to the surface. You could see the sun's rays reflecting into the water. You tried to swim up, but you were pinned in your stomach back down to the sea floor. The blow was so intense, you spat out blood. The thing that hit you was a giant shark. It was four times the size as your own! “He transformed so quickly… I didn't notice!” Trying to break free, you punched furiously on its nose, and it releases you. You took advantage of that moment and swam for dear life, until the shark returned, and bit down hard onto your left leg. You opened your mouth to scream, letting out even more air. Your heart raced again. “There's no way I'm getting out alive…” As the shark was about to get a second bite, you had an epiphany. You gurgled, “Henge no jutsu!” and a clone of yourself took your place, receiving the bite, as you swam up to the surface. You finally reached the top, taking in the air like it was no tomorrow, while swimming toward the edge of the lake. You were home free. You were surprised to see that your leg was in one piece! You stood up, turning around to leave, but fell instantly from the wounded limb. Coughing up water, you started to army crawl your way out, leaving a trail of blood from your wounded limb.
“Ahahahaha!! Is this the best you can do?” You heard several feet away. “You may talk tough, but when it comes down to fighting, you're as strong as Tobi!” The humanoid shark laughed at your pain. You knew what he said was true. You were close to dying out there, all because of your arrogant attitude. You panted heavily, getting a glimpse of the man who almost killed you. He seemed like a powerful ally to you. He was the brute force of the Akatsuki, the thing people would fear as much as you did ten minutes ago. You didn't want to be defenseless anymore. This was your time to change.
“T-t-t-train m-me..”
“What?”
“You… heard what I said….” Your voice was lowered. The two of you gazed into each other's eyes. Your eyes were intense, and he could not help to look away. He got a feeling you were actually serious. There was a long pause. “I guess I can teach you a few jutsus…” You turned around, and smiled inwardly. “T-thanks.” You whimpered, coughing out more water onto the ground. “Don't thank me just yet. You won't be doing much in that shape.” He lifted you from the ground bridal style and carried you back inside the base. While walking you tucked your head into his chest with your eyes shut, coughing less heavier than before. “H-hey… I never told you… who I was.” You cleared your throat. “I-I-I'm name… you?” “Some person you are…” He chuckled.
“Kisame.”
For the past eight weeks, you were handicapped. Your entire left leg was wrapped in tons of cloth to stop the bleeding. You still spoke to Kisame, even after he almost murdered you. “I don't think I'll ever get any training at this point…” You sat on the ground of the lair trying to pull it off of you to scratch your leg. “Augh, it itches!!” you complained. “And it's on too tight! Who wrapped this up?!” Suddenly, a woman with blue hair approached you. “That would be me..” her voice was stern and gentle at the same time. She wore a white flower in her hair. “Pein instructed me to keep watch over you--” You cut her off. “Oho! He has another person to baby-sit me?” you snarled. The woman gave you a dirty glare. “With that attitude of yours I'll make sure that there's nothing left to watch...” she hissed. The two of you looked furious. Then you look down at your leg. You sigh. “Wait…I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound pissy or anything… it's just that… I'm not used to living this way.” She stopped glaring at you. “I understand. You're…. not that used to changes, are you…” she asked. “Not one bit.” She laughed slightly. “I can see that. Living with men can be unbearable at times...” You laughed. “What do you mean at times? You enjoy it?” She laughed a little harder, while blushing. “You'll just have to find out for yourself...” You grinned. “I'll see to that!!” You continued talking elsewhere. The two of you headed to a small tea shop to drink. You discovered that your new ally was Konan. She specialized in infiltrations, stealth, and paper/origami techniques.
“I mean come on! All that stuff Pein made me go through?! It's ridiculous!!” You said stretching your arms out in front of you. “Don't say that, it isn't that bad.” You stood and showed her your coffin leg. “It's not bad? This is worse than bad!” You both shared a laugh. You found out she was the closest to Pein, which explained why she believed that living in a lair full of males could be “bearable”. She was a kind person to you, and she seemed like she wouldn't irritate you much. It was shocking how you became acquainted with her that quickly. “So… how did you guys meet?” “Hm.. it was many years ago… our village was seized by war, families were slaughtered… I-- was a bit young at the time… he looked so different before…” she paused. You drank your warm tea slowly to savor its taste. The tea left a strong mint flavor in your mouth. “Mmm…You mean he had all those piercings when he was twelve?” Konan chuckled. “No, he looked like an average boy. His black hair…. His eyes… captured me… We've known each other for so long, it's just…. I never knew what he was capable of…”
“Too many people died out here….”
“Their pain is what helped me grow up…”
Konan went silent, staring blankly into her cup of tea. “Hey, you okay? Was that too personal, or…” “No, no, it's fine, name. Don't worry about it.” She swallowed the remains of her drink and stood up. “You're almost finished? We should head back. We've been talking all afternoon.” She stated. You felt guilty of bringing up that subject. You stared into the darkening sky. “Mhm, we'd better get going.” You both headed off to the base. You walked behind Konan, glancing at her back. “Yeah, or Pein might have a fit... I can tell she really respects him… or maybe something more...” you thought to yourself.
11:43 PM
You and Konan returned. It was quieter than usual, and members were standing on a statue. It looked strange. It had various eyes, an odd nose and mouth. Its hands were lifted in the air, while everyone stood on each individual finger. You whispered to Konan, “Has that thing always been there?” She nodded, staring at them. You stared as well, and discovered they were only holograms. You sighed in relief. “Why are you relieved, name… you're late…” Pein voice stated grimly. “I know, bu-” “I was keeping watch over name most of the day… she still needed treatment for her wound.” Konan stepped in for you. “Very well... Now...Let us continue. First thing tomorrow, everyone must all retreat to Hidden Rain Village immediately. Anyone who declines will have to face the consequences on their own.” He started.
“What!? Why there, hmm! That place is ugly and crowded… not very artistic, un…” Deidara complained. Pein brushed off his comment about his native village.
“We're retreating there for that main reason, Deidara. It's crowded. Even if they do try to find us, they'll be searching for days, months even. Konoha is now aware of our whereabouts. The Hokage has sent four chunnin and jounin teams our way. Rain Village is the furthest possible place from here to avoid the conflict. I know Rain Village like the back of my hand, and we need to stay out of the scenes for a while so they won't suspect anything.” You saw a hologram of Tobi nodding in agreement.
There was silence. You looked at Konan with curiosity. “Hidden Rain Village… just like she said...”
