Sasuke’s Denial
I turned around and waited, with my back towards him, for his reaction.
“You’re lying.” He said simply, standing and brushing himself off. “He killed everyone. So, you’re a liar.”
I spun around and stared at him incredulously. Did he not know an Uchiha when he saw one? In reality, I believed that he knew the truth, but that he chose to not accept it. He had been alone for all these years, and I could hardly imagine the shock that was going through him at this moment. For him to suddenly and brashly be introduced to his older sister, what must that be like for him? And just who was this “he” that Sasuke claimed killed everyone? I had to find out.
“Who was it? Who did it?”
“It’s none of YOUR business. I will find him and I will kill him.”
“Enough with your high and mighty trip already. Come off it. They deserved what they got. All of them.”
“If you were really my sister, you wouldn’t have said that!”
“If you knew half of what I did about our ‘family’ you would agree with me!”
Both of us were getting angry, which I thought was stupid, but I couldn’t help it. He knew nothing, and yet, he was insisting on avenging a ‘family’ that sent their own child away.
“What seems to be the problem here?” This was a different ninja. He had silver-ish gray hair, and a slanted Konoha headband that covered his left eye. He had a book in his hand, but was staring at the two of us. I suddenly realized that while we were arguing, the distance between us had shortened considerably.
“Nothing.” I said quickly, standing back upright. I never took my glare away from Sasuke. He stood up as well and put his hand casually in his pockets, never looking away from me.
“And who, may I ask, are you?” The older ninja’s voice was calm, but I could sense his hidden anxiety. “Naruto came to get me because he said there was trouble.” I finally broke away from our staring match to see the blonde boy behind the new ninja. Damn him. With the argument between me and Sasuke, I hadn’t ever noticed when he had left.
I looked up at the ninja. In addition to the headband that was covering his left eye, he had a black mask that concealed his facial features.
“My name,” I began for what seemed like the 100th time, “is Ahiaa. And let’s just call me a visiting friend. And what is your name?”
“Kakashi. I’ve never seen you around. Where are you visiting from?” He asked suspiciously.
“A small village to the south of here.” I smiled. “Now, if you’ll excuse us, Sasuke and I have a lot we need to catch up on.”
“I’m afraid you can’t. He has training to attend.”
“He doesn’t need it,” I assured him. He looked at me skeptically, but still shook his head ‘no’.
“He’s in my care at the moment, and I can’t just let him go off and skip training.”
“Don’t worry. I’ll take good care of him. I’m sure his mother would agree. I’m just like family.”
He looked shocked at my choice of words and finally gave in. “I will allow him to be ten minutes late. But that is it.”
“Thank you.” I said with a huge smile. I turned away, grabbed Sasuke’s arm, and drug him, uncooperatively, behind me.
“Let go of me.” He finally said when we got a good ways away from the others.
I turned around to face him, now clutching both his shoulders.
“Tell me what happened.” I demanded.
“It’s none of your business.”
“Do we really need to go over this again?!”
He looked at me with a hard, determined expression. He sighed and closed his eyes.
“Look, I’ll tell you, alright? But, this isn’t because I believe all that crap about you being my sister, though. You got that?” I nodded reluctantly in agreement. “When I was six, Itachi went crazy and killed every last member of my clan.”
“Itachi did it?” I asked, shocked. “Why? What made him snap like that?”
“I don’t know. I know that the day before, him and father got into an argument.”
“Over what?”
“I don’t really know.” He paused, obviously trying to recollect his memories. “They were yelling over something about some girl… Itachi wanted her to come to the village, but father was against it. He said that she would only shame the Uchiha Clan. Or something like that… I don’t know. I do know that the next day, Itachi slaughtered the clan and left the village. No one has seen him since.”
“Oh. I see now. That’s why you’re so dead set on killing him. But I know something you don’t know; it’s about what really went on.”
“Oh yea? And what’s that?” I could hear the irritation in his voice.
“What they were arguing over. What made Itachi lose it…”
“Wha?!” His eyes grew wide. “You couldn’t possibly know what it was.”
“Well… you’re right… I can’t. But, I have a pretty good guess. It was over… me. Itachi always was so protective over me. He about lost it the day they sent me away. In all honesty, I’m surprised he held out for even those years… You were too young to know what was going on, so he most likely didn’t hold you responsible for it. That’s probably the reason he didn’t kill you, too. But everyone else… they knew. They knew and they did nothing about it. I feel no sympathy for them. They deserved what they got.” I finished with clenched fists.
His eyes shifted to the side at my new revelations. I sighed.
“You still don’t completely believe me, do you?” He replied my question by glaring at me. “Well, I’ll take that as a ‘no’. Hmm… What if there was someone in the village that we could go and speak to about it? I’m almost positive that you’d believe him.”
“Oh yeah? And just who is that…?”
“Why, it’s the man that helped our parents take me out of the village and far, far away. I believe his name was Sarutobi or something like that… I don’t know… But he’s the Hokage now. Heh. Imagine that…”
“L-Lord Hokage…?”
“Yep, let’s go drop him a little visit, shall we?” I grabbed him once again and leapt off toward the Hokage’s place.
We walked up the curved staircase around the Hokage’s office. I saw the giant wooden door and knocked.
“I don’t know what you’re trying to prove by doing all this. And you’re going to make me late for training.” Sasuke was still irritable.
“Oh, shut up and stop spazzin’ out. Now, listen to your older sister.” I just had to smile at my comment.
He rolled his eyes and was about to argue once again, when the office door flew open and a short old man in the white and red Hokage cloak stood in the doorway.
“Can I help you?” He was kind-worded at first, but when he tilted his head up to meet my gaze, all the blood seemed to run from his face and his mouth flew open.
“Aww, what’s wrong old man? Didn’t expect to see me?” I laughed inwardly a little at his petrified stance inside the door.
“How are you here…?” He asked, still in shock.
“Nuh-uh, now. I’ll be the one asking the questions if you don’t mind.” I pushed passed him and into his office, dragging Sasuke along behind me.
“And don’t you even think about calling in your guards. You know that they’d only die.” I said back to him.”
He slowly closed the door and turned around to meet my eyes.
“Very well,” he said, “what shall we talk about?” He said with a fake smile on.
“Well you can start with shy little Sasuke here doesn’t know who I am!” I stated angrily.
“It was the wish of your father--” he began, but I cut him off.
“Yeah, and my big brother sure showed him, didn’t he? Say, you wouldn’t happen to know where my dear brother is, do you?”
“I’m sorry, but I have no clue where he is.”
“Oh, I see…” I said, trying to hide my disappointment. “Anyway, I want you to tell Sasuke everything. Beginning with who I am to him.”
The Hokage sighed. “Very well.” He turned his attention to Sasuke. “This is Ahiaa Uchiha. She is your sister, and one of the most powerful and talented ninja that I know of. She has power to even match that of you and your brother’s.”
“So your saying that she really is my sister…?” Sasuke asked, earning a nod from the Hokage. “But if that’s true, then why was she sent away?” I kind of felt sorry for him; he was so confused.
“That is because your father wished it. You see, Ahiaa possesses the sharingan, along with most the men that were in your clan. However, she is the only woman to carry it. Because of this, your father felt as if she shamed the entire clan…”
“But…if you knew, then why didn’t you just come to tell me after they all died?”
“I had made a promise to your father many years ago that the secret of your sister would stay with me to the grave.”
“Oh…” Sasuke’s mind was working so hard trying to comprehend what was going on, that that was all he could manage to get out.
“Now that we have that all taken care of... Ahiaa.” He redirected his attention to me.
“Yeah?” I already knew what he was wanting from me. This was the fun part. I smiled inwardly.
“I’ve done all you’ve asked of me. Now please…answer my questions.”
“I suppose I could answer a few of them.” I smiled. “But be very careful with what you ask of me. You could get an answer that you don’t necessarily care for.”
“Yes, well… I think I’ll take my chances. Now let’s begin. First of all… How did you get here?”
“Well that’s an easy one…” I rolled my eyes. “ I walked, of course. Did you think that someone would actually pick me up with the clothes I had on?!”
He sighed. “Please don’t be difficult. Just tell me how you got out, okay?”
“Fine, fine.” I held up my hands. “I’ll tell you, though, it wasn’t hard or anything… I mean, the guards you had out there were way below average.” Sasuke was now listening to what I was saying to the old man before me. “Anyway… All I did was hit them over the head, take their keys and money, and high-tail it out of there.” I shrugged. “By the way, I don’t have any kunai, can I have some? And, oh yeah! What was that comment you made earlier about me being the best ninja and stuff? I mean, you haven’t seen me since I was what, five…?”
“Heh.” It was his turn to laugh. “Did you really think that you weren’t being watched? Each time they let you out to roam the forest, there was always someone there watching you; we didn’t know if you would run off or not. We kept tabs on you as you learned to manipulate your chakra. When you practiced twigs…I’m guessing that those were supposed to represent kunai? Well, it was amazing. You hit all of your marks, dead on. And at such a young age… It was very impressive to say the least.”
“Why thank you.” I said, all smiles. The best part of this conversation was still coming up.
“But, something is still bothering me. Even if you were able to get close enough to knock out my guards, only one had the main key; the key to get all the way out. And, with all due respect, I seriously doubt you would have been able to take him so easily. Unless…” His eyes grew wide.
