Naruto Fan Fiction ❯ Forbidden ❯ From Old to Young; a new view ( Chapter 10 )
[ P - Pre-Teen ]
The morning hair was filled with the sound of the birds as Azarni popped her head into the abandoned building to check on the man she found not long ago. The room was a bit tidier than when she saw it last, for the sheets were folded up in a pile, and most of the dust was swept off the furniture. Walking in, she called, “Hidan, I'm back,' But no one answered. Worried that her guest left without saying a word, she franticly started to look around. First, Azarni went into the falling- apart kitchen, which had an old rotting table near the doorway into it. Leaning against it, was the old, red, three bladed scythe.
“Well if he left this old thing in here, I'm sure he's still around,” she thought to herself and she turned back into the main room. “Hidan,” she called once more. “Where are-” she was then interrupted by a snarl of an answer.
“What do you want already, you're acting as if you were my Mother,” he said standing at the edge of the second floor. The Nara girl then sighed with relief as she started to walk towards the stairway where she heard his voice, and said, “There you are, you had me worried I though y-you had… l-left,” she stuttered out.
Hidan looked at her with suspicion as her onyx eyes grew large for a few moments. “What is something wrong,” he asked with a dull look on his face. For a moment, Azarni did not answer him, but just gazed at him until he got her attention once again. “Hey girl, what's up with you? Are you not feeling well?”
The young women then blinked a few times as she came back into reality. Blushing a bit, she shook her head. “I'-`m sorry, it's just that you looked so old before now, like a grandfather or something.. b-but now you look…”
The immortal smirked, crossed his arms, and chuckled a bit at the same time as he interrupted her. “You think I'm attractive don't you? I see, you have a crush on me now.” Azarni then fiercely shook her head and rejected his joke as he continued to chuckle.
“No, no, don't just assume things! All I meant to say was that you look… younger. I was just really surprised to see you look that young by just shaving off some hair,” she said defending herself. The man had a look that showed that he wasn't really convinced, but he dropped the matter.
“So why did you stop by this time,” he asked as he leapt from the top to the bottom step of the stairway. Azarni then just looked around the place, probably trying to think of her reason as Hidan walked up to her. “Well,' she started. “Just to check up on you I guess. It's been a few days since I left for my mission and I just got back yesterday afternoon.”
“You really don't have a life do you,” he said as he walked past her as he headed to the kitchen. Azarni then put her hands on her hips and said, “I have a life” in protest. “You should be grateful that I even helped you find the rest of your body. I could have used your head as target practice and then told my uncle, the one who's in charge of the forest, about you.”
“A”, Hidan said walking out with the scythe in his right hand, “You have a sick mind if you'd play target practice with a head. And B, wouldn't you get in trouble anyhow if you told whoever that person is about finding me? You told me that you were forbidden from going into the forest remember?”
In defeat, Azarni bowed her head and mumbled as she followed the Akatsuki member up onto the second floor. It seemed that he spent a lot of time up there since most of the things looked cleaner than the things on the first floor. Out of curiosity she asked, “What have you been doing out here,” as he walked into a room. But he didn't really need to answer her once she saw that he had built something that he then used to sharpen his blade. He had two chairs, he nailed to the floor, with rope between them that tied to some sort of piece of metal.
“Does this answer your question,” he said as he rubbed the blades together. Then rubbing her head she answered, “I guess so, though I don't see how that's the best way to sharpen a blade.” The Immortal the turned and glared at the Nara girl, for criticizing his methods. “I mean really, why don't you just get the knife sharpener from the kitchen, and sharpen it with that rather than uh, this thing.”
“Whatever,” he grumbled as he stood to his feet and left the room. Azarni's eyes then followed after him, and were soon filled with joy and laughter when she saw what he was doing. “You're actually taking my advice,” she said as Hidan sat down with the scythe and the sharpener.
“So,” he said as he stroked the blades together. The girl then smiled softly and replied as she started to manage her way down the stairs.
“Well, no one really takes my advice because I do crazy things some times.” Rubbing the back of her head out of nervousness in how he'd reply, she giggled a bit and sat on the left edge of the long couch he was on.
“And why would that be? Though I guess I already know since you went into the forest and unburied me,” he said continuing with his work. “So you do this sort of thing all the time? You go around pulling crazy stunts? I wonder why you haven't died yet,” he said with an expression that showed little interest. But, within a minute, he noticed something… “Hey girl, where did you get this gash in your arm,” he said grabbing it near the elbow so not to touch the wound.
“O-oh, I must have gotten that from my mission. Some Grass ninja attacked us, though I must say they were pretty weak. We took them down in twenty minutes, but I think I got this when they first attacked us. One of them sneaked behind me when I turned to see the commotion behind me; I was in the front. `
“Well that was dumb, don't you know you should never turn your back to the enemy,” he snickered as he stood to his feet with an expression of almost disappointment playing.
“Well how was I supposed to know that someone would sneak up behind me? Weak as they were, they did a good job in hiding their chakra. I may be in the Nara clan who are known for their jutsus, but that doesn't mean I'm the best Chunin around you know,” she said standing as well. The immortal just glanced down at her for a moment with raised eyebrows, before he started for the door with quick strides. “W-where are you going,” she asked as she went up to his pace. “Well?”
“Do you really need to know,” he said with a sigh filled of annoyance. “Look, the bathroom is all clogged up right now.”
Azarni stopped stalk still there as her face then turned a multiple shades of red and pink, not totally sure how she should react. “O-oh, alright,” she said plopping down on the grass. “Wow what an idiot I am, what sort of a question was that? Wasn't it obvious? But wait how could I know the bathroom was clogged? But I shouldn't have expected it to work at all since the place is so ancient looking… Hidan really does look so much different and younger without all that nasty hair all over him. I'm not sure how I should act around him; should I stay acting like he's an old grandpa, or should I act as if he's a young man? Oh this is so confusing for me… Why do I keep blushing today, I don't have a crush on him do I?”
For another minute or so, the Nara girl wondered on about the mysterious immortal man she found. Why did she keep bugging him anyhow? Why should she care so much? Then Hidan came back out of the woods, and was going to go back into the building when Azarni asked him a question.
“Hidan,” she said getting his attention. Then, once he looked back at her she continued saying, “Have you ever known another immortal that has given up their immortality for another's life? I've heard that an Immortal can trade their Immortality for a dead, loved one's life. I know that you couldn't have since you're still alive now, but do you know of anyone who has?”
“Who gave you those ideas,” he snarled. “Who in their right mind would give up their immortality to bring back someone is isn't an immortal like them? Hence, the other immortal wouldn't die, and they wouldn't have to sacrifice anything.”
“But,” she said getting up to follow him inside the building. “Has it really been done before? Does it exist,” Azarni asked full of curiosity. Hidan then paused in his footsteps and looked at she who was now at his side. Her childish wish of knowledge showed through her expression, and weakened his stone heart's burier. “Sure it has been done, but only by fools,” he said looking down at his little heroine. “…And that rarely occurs. Immortals cherish their gifts.”
Looking down at her toes now, Azarni though of all the Immortals Hidan had called `Dumb'. “I don't think they were dumb,” she though. “They were heroic, giving up the best thing they could obtain for the ones they loved most. They cherished the people who lacked immortality, rather than think them as a less important race of humans. I'm happy for them you know; for living and dying for the ones you love is better than living forever for yourself all alone… Oh if only Hidan could fall for someone, then he'd see. But I guess that's something that won't happen, if he continues to live out in this run down building here.”
“H-Hidan, I must go home now. I've been here for a while now, and my Mother has become suspicious of me when I get back later. I doubt a shadow clone is going to trick my Mom for long; she's a ninja too.” Hidan did not answer, but only nodded his head before she departed, though the girl really wanted a better goodbye than that. But, she accepted it as better than none at all, or a scolding to never come back as he did before.
“Mother, do you need any help with making breakfast this morning,” Azarni said near the bottom of her stairway, after she had sneaked into the house through her bedroom window on the second floor. Her mother looked over at her from the kitchen and replied. “Ahh, there you are Azarni. For once you've actually gotten out of bed on time. I can do it by myself, but you need the training. You're getting older, and you need something to make you a better bachelorette.” The girl then rolled her eyes as she slowly walked into the kitchen and took her place beside her busy mother.
“So you think I'm non-attractive on my own,” she asked. “Thanks a lot Mother,” Azarni said putting an apron on. “As if telling me I was dumb wasn't enough, now you say I'm unattractive?”
“No dear,” her Mother said with a gentle voice. “It's just that well, with that childish disposition you have, I don't think many men are attracted to you since they'd see you as a child. If you have good cooking skills though, they may change their minds.”
“Why do mothers always play match maker for their daughters who are around my age? I mean really, when I find my guy I will find my guy. And if I just grow up to be an old maid, that'll be that! My fate has been decided, okay? If I die tonight, or in a hundred years, it will be meant to be.”
“Azarni,” her Mother said with a look of concern. “When did you do that to your arm?”
“You too,” she said under her breath. “Uh, I think I got it on my last mission. It didn't look that bad, so I didn't bother going to the hospital for it, Mother. We don't want to pay even more money just for a thing like this,” her daughter replied.
“You think that's just a little thing, Azarni? That wound is bad, if there were any sort of poison on that weapon then it would be too late to get out of your bloodstream by now,” Mrs. Nara scolded. “Go to the hospital, now, and get that healed, you hear me young lady?”
Azarni read the concerned look on her Mother's slender face, and nodded her head before she started for the door. The wound couldn't be that bad, could it?
