Chapter 2: The 6th Hokage's Reign

 

 

BakurasAngel: Okay this chapter skips to about a year in the future, Mashi's a little over a year old, and Sunako is about 10 months at this point. In a later flashback I will cover Sunako's birth. Well I don't own Naruto so don't sue.

 

 

“ Gods almighty! Where is he!” exclaims Tsunade, sitting on a bench, looking toward a VERY unhappy looking Gaara who is currently holding onto a squirming Sunako the crimson haired girl having all of her fathers energy. Her eyes a bright blue like Naruto's were looking for her father. Meanwhile Mashi was sitting on Tsunade's lap. Gaara and Naruto were taking care of Mashi while Sasuke and Temari were off for a few days doing “things”. Gaara himself wasn't in the best mood as right now he was carrying another baby boy of which he had just learned of less then an hour ago. Tsunade sighs, noticing Naruto as the blond comes running up to them, holding something behind his back as Tsunade blinks. “ What took you so long!”

 

“ Sorry! Sorry! I. . .I was stopped by Ino and Hinata. . .and then Anko!” exclaims Naruto, panting as he pulls out a bouquet, holding it out to Gaara who blinks. “ I. . .Ino told me to give you her best regards. . .she's. . .she's pregnant with a little girl. . .” Naruto smiles, looking at Sunako as he smiles at his daughter. Sunako giggles, reaching out for her father as Gaara trades Naruto Sunako for the flowers. “ Um. . .Hinata stopped me because little Taiyo had been requesting to see me. . .she called me “ Unki Na-uto”. . .and she was whining because “ Unka Ga-a” wasn't there. . .” Gaara smiles, smelling the flowers as Naruto smiles. “ Anko stopped me because. . .she wanted advice on how to keep the Icha Icha Paradise books away from Kuroi. . .” Gaara chuckles as Naruto shrugs helplessly.

“ So yeah. . .I'm sorry I'm late. . .so. . .what's this big news you two had to tell me?” Gaara sighs, smiling as his mood returns to normal, having been more grumpy because Naruto was late. “ So! Tell me!”

 

“ You two are pregnant with another son,” states Tsunade, causing Naruto to blink for a moment, slowly turning to look toward Tsunade with a “ you're crazy!” look upon his face. “ I'm telling the truth. . .”

 

“ Another boy,” murmurs Naruto, shock upon his face as he looks toward Gaara.

“ Another. . .already?”

 

“ Yes. . .another boy,” murmurs Gaara as he shrugs to himself. “ And. . .from what Tsunade says. . .this one won't go full term like Sunako did. . .”

 

“ He'll have to be delivered at about six and a half months,” murmurs Tsunade softly. “ He's just grown too fast. . .and after he's born I'd recommend not getting pregnant again for quite sometime. . .”

 

“ Like we'll listen,” murmurs Naruto as Gaara just shrugs to himself as Naruto chuckles softly. “ So another boy. . .well our first TRUE boy together. . .” Gaara grins, nodding as Mashi blinks, jumping off Tsunade's lap and latching onto Gaara's leg as Gaara smiles.

 

“ Hiya Mashi,” murmurs Gaara softly, looking at the boy as Mashi giggles happily.

 

“ Hiya Gaara,” murmurs Mashi, hugging Gaara's leg as Gaara grins, blinking as Mashi points to Gaara tummy. “ Baby?” Gaara nods as Mashi giggles happily, turning his attention toward Naruto and Sunako as Naruto smiles at his son as Mashi looks at Sunako as he giggles. “ Sister. . .”

 

“ Yes, sister Sunako. . .and soon you'll have a brother,” murmurs Naruto as Mashi jumps happily at that. “ What should we name him? Mashi tilts his head for a moment in thought before giggling happily and touching his fathers stomach as Naruto blinks. “ Oh. . .you want to name him after the Kyuubi?” Mashi nods happily as Naruto looks toward Gaara. “ Kyuu sound like a good name?”

 

“ Hmm, Kyuu Uzumaki has a nice ring to it,” murmurs Gaara, nodding as he smiles.

 

“ Kyuu he is then,” says Naruto and then nods, holding Sunako close as he smiles toward Tsunade who stands up and starts to head for home. “ See you soon then Tsunade!”

 

“ Yeah, yeah. . .just take care of yourselves,” murmurs Tsunade, chuckling to herself as she smiles. “ I swear sometimes you boys are more trouble then you're worth. . .” Naruto just smiles, holding Sunako as Mashi just waves after Tsunade. Naruto smiles, holding Sunako close, looking toward Gaara as the Kazekage just smiles, walking over as Naruto sighs softly.

 

“ So then. . .any more letters?” murmurs Naruto softly, walking toward home, holding Sunako close as he looks around. Gaara just sighs softly, nodding as he holds onto Mashi's hand, the little boy walking best he can beside Gaara. “ I thought as much. . .I might have to have a meeting with some of the ANBU later this week. . .” Gaara nods as they reach the house as Naruto smiles gently. “ So you think when Sasuke and Temari come back we'll be awaiting becoming uncles?”

 

“ Hmm, most likely,” murmurs Gaara, walking into the house and toward the nursery as Naruto sets Sunako down in her crib the crimson haired girl just looking at her parents as Gaara smiles. “ I suppose Temari and I will be pregnant about the same time. . .”

 

“ You. . .didn't want to get pregnant again so soon,” murmurs Naruto, hugging Gaara gently as Gaara sighs, leaning against Naruto as he smiles tiredly. “ So then. . .he'll be pretty tiny being delivered at only six and a half months. . .”

 

“ Yeah. . .and going against Tsunade's advice. . .I think we should try for one more quickly after that,” whispers Gaara, hearing a shocked sound from Naruto as he smiles slightly. “ Then stop for a couple of years at least. . .”

 

“ Sounds like a plan,” murmurs Naruto, nodding as he sighs softly giggling as Mashi tugs on his sleeve. “ What is it Mashi?” Mashi just smiles, tilting his head as Naruto sighs softly. “ Hungry kiddo?” Mashi nods as Naruto sighs as he chuckles. “ Well then, come on Mashi, lets get something to eat.” Gaara smiles, watching the two as Naruto scoops Mashi up, setting the toddler on his shoulders as Gaara just grins, hearing Naruto rambling on about ramen as he looks at Sunako, eyes half lidded as he sighs.

 

“ Letters. . .” murmurs Gaara softly, eyes half lidded as he sits down in a red rocking chair in the nursery as he shakes his head, one hand resting on his stomach, the other hand placed over his eyes. “ I. . .I think I'll call up Kankuro later. . .or perhaps Lee or maybe Shikamaru. . .ah. . .I don't know. . .I just know we need more security posted around here. . .” Gaara sighs, looking at the phone as he sighs once more, going over and picking up the phone, tilting his head as he dials quickly, hoping that he'd dialed the right number.

 

“ Hiya, Nara residence. . .this is Ino, how may I help you?” murmurs Ino, answering the phone, blinking for a moment as silence follows for a moment. “ Hello?”

 

“ Ino. . .” murmurs Gaara, tilting his head for a moment, remembering that the blond herself is a mother-to-be. “ Would. . .would Shikamaru happen to be in?”

 

“ Um. . .no. . .he's out right now,” murmurs Ino, tilting her head, worry upon her face. “ I don't mean to intrude. . .but is something wrong?”

 

“ W. . .Well. . .you know those letters that we've been getting?” murmurs Gaara, not really knowing if the kunoichi knew or not.

 

“ Yeah. . .I know about them. . .most of the shinobi do,” murmurs Ino, worry entering her voice. “ What's wrong?”

 

“ Well. . .it's just worrying me. . .a lot. . .I mean if it was just Naruto and me. . .we. . . well it wouldn't be a problem. . .but with Mashi and Sunako,” murmurs Gaara, eyes falling shut as he tries his best to relax. “ And another on the way. . .those letters REALLY worry me. . .”

 

“ Just take a deep breathe and calm down,” murmurs Ino, sighing as she tilts her head.

“ Speaking of the 6th. . .where is he?”

 

“ Making Mashi some ramen,” murmurs Gaara, actually giggling as he smiles. “ And I'm watching Sunako. . .I hear you're going to be a mother yourself. . .congrats. . .”

 

“ Thanks. . .a little girl,” murmurs Ino, smiling as she tilts her head. “ When Shikamaru found out he went “ how troublesome. . .another woman to deal with”. . .but then he sort of just shook his head and smiled. . .so he's happy to be a father. . .”

 

“ Sounds like Shikamaru,” murmurs Gaara as he smiles, talking to the blond kunoichi actually having helped his mood. “ Oh. . .I almost forgot. . .thanks for the flowers!”

 

“ Ah, you're welcome,” murmurs Ino as she smiles herself. “ You'd looked a bit down lately, so I thought they'd cheer you up. . .Temari and Sasuke came by and mentioned in passing that you like flowers. . .” Gaara smiles, blushing a bit as he nods to her words.

 

“ I do. . .Naruto taught me to like them,” murmurs Gaara softly, looking out the window of the nursery and toward the garden. “ By the way. . .you wouldn't happen to have any of those red flower bushes in stock again would you. . .Naruto keeps saying he wants to buy more of them. . .”

 

“ The rose bushes?” murmurs Ino, tilting her head as she thinks for a moment. “ I think we have a few left. . .I'll have to check. . .oh. . .Shikamru's home. . .give me a moment and I'll put him on. . .” Gaara blinks, just nodding as he sits in the rocking chair, blinking again as Shikamaru's voice flows over the phone.

 

“ If you want me to baby-sit that sugar crazed son of yours again, the answers NO,” states Shikamaru, blinking as no answer comes on the phone. “ Naruto?”

 

“ It's me,” murmurs Gaara, hearing a surprised sound come from Shikamaru. It really wasn't everyday that Kazekage Gaara himself called on the phone, it was usually the 6th Hokage Naruto, not the 5th Kazekage Gaara. “ Yeah, I know. . .I don't call. . .”

 

“ Yeah, yeah. . .so what do you want? Hopefully it's not too troublesome,” murmurs Shikamaru, sitting down as he holds the phone. “ Ino mentioned something about those damned letters again. . .is it getting worse?”

 

“ Unbelievably worse,” murmurs Gaara, eyes half lidded as he hears footsteps, blinking as he looks at Naruto standing in the doorway, holding a handful of letters as Mashi peaks out from behind his father. “ I. . .I have to go Shikamru. . .bye. . .” Gaara looks at Naruto, hanging up the phone. “ I. . .I didn't want to worry you. . .”

 

“ This. . .isn't nearly all of them is it?” murmurs Naruto, sitting down in his own orange rocking chair, picking Mashi up and setting the toddler on his lap as Mashi just giggles.

 

“ Not nearly half,” whispers Gaara softly, eyes half lidded. “ I. . .burnt the rest. . .” Naruto sighs, looking at the letters as Gaara curls up a bit in the rocking chair. “ I. . .I don't mind being threatened myself. . .that. . .that I'm used to. . .it's almost expected. . .but when they start threatening Mashi and Sunako. . .”

 

“ I know. . .when Sasuke returns I'm going to set up a special ANBU unit to track down the people that are sending these,” murmurs Naruto softly, rocking in the chair as he sighs softly. “ What's the worst of it is that they're coming from normal villagers. . .”

 

“ And not even Suna villagers,” whispers Gaara, sighing as he looks at Naruto. “ They're coming from Konoha villagers. . .if this keeps up. . .I might. . .”

 

“ Please. . .please don't go back to Suna,” whispers Naruto softly, looking at Gaara who blinks looking up as Naruto tilts his head. “ I. . .I thought you were going to say you might go back to Suna. . .”

 

“ I was going to say I might just move in with the Hyuuga's for safety,” murmurs Gaara softly, causing Naruto to blink and then chuckle softly. “ Hell I'd go live with Kakashi-sensei if I wasn't worried about Mashi and Sunako being badly influenced. . .”

 

“ Come on. . .” murmurs Naruto, nodding toward the door as Gaara blinks. “ I think until we get the letter thing under control. . .it might be best if we go and move into the Hokage's Tower. . .hell there's plenty of room. . .” Gaara just nods, picking up Sunako from her crib as Naruto smiles gently. “ And I'll make some calls and such and get extra security. . .”

 

“ Make sure that special ANBU group is headed by Sasuke or Shikamaru,” murmurs Gaara as Naruto nods as Gaara smiles slightly. “ And make sure Shino and Lee are on if at all possible. . .”

 

“ Ah. . .you've come to truly like those four haven't you,” murmurs Naruto as Gaara smiles slightly as Naruto tilts his head. “ Well?”

 

“ Sasuke's smart. . .and strong. . .and he is the father of Mashi. . .Shikamaru's a genius. . .expert analyst. . .and although he can be lazy. . .he is really a very good ninja. . .Shino is unique. . .and he's very good when collecting info on enemies. . .and Lee. . .well Lee is REALLY strong and powerful. . .I hold each of them in very high regards. . .I hold all of the shinobi of Konoha and Suna in VERY high regards,” murmurs Gaara, smiling as he holds Sunako close as he follows Naruto toward the Hokage's Tower. “ Hmm. . .I remember how you stood out in front of the Tower after being named the 6th and pretty much declared it party day. . .”

 

“ Yeah. . .well. . .” murmurs Naruto, chuckling as he holds Mashi on his shoulders. “ I was excited. . .”

 

“ And less then 3 months later you had to wake Lady Tsunade up at 2 am. . .to help deliver Sunako,” murmurs Gaara, thoughts turning back to that night as he smiles.

 

Flashback

 

“ Naruto,” gasped Gaara, waking the blond from sleep as Gaara curled up on a corner of the couch in the Hokage's study. “ Naruto. . .call Tsunade. . .the. . .the babies coming. . .” Naruto started, picking up the phone and calling Tsunade.

 

“ Huh. . .hmm. . .uh Naruto. . .what is it?” mumbled Tsunade, half awake, blinking as she suddenly snaps awake at the blonds quickly sputtered words. “ Where are you? The Tower. . .okay I'll be there ASAP!” Naruto had just nodded, setting the phone down and moving to Gaara's side, gently uncurling the other and moving the red haired Kazekage to the floor so it would be easier. Less then 2 minutes later, Tsunade was in the room, kneeling beside Gaara as the green eyed male looked at her through half lidded eyes.

 

“ How long has it been?” asked Tsunade, hands resting on Gaara's stomach as the other just whimpered in pain from a contraction.

 

“ Th. . .thirty-five minutes,” murmured out Gaara, looking toward Naruto as he smiled weakly. “ She's a strong one love. . .just like her dad. . .” Naruto just nodded as he held onto Gaara's hand as Tsunade started to procedure, it having been determined since Mashi's birth that all of Gaara or Naruto's pregnancies would be delivered via c-section. Thirty minutes later Sunako had been delivered. Gaara had been healed up from the cut wound and was resting and Naruto was holding Sunako close.

 

“ She looks like you love,” murmured Naruto, looking at Sunako as Gaara had just smiled weakly, not having the reserves of strength like Naruto. “ I'm most certainly glad we left Mashi with Sasuke for the week. . .”

 

“ Well, we knew the due date was any day now,” murmured Gaara, smiling as he looked toward Tsunade who was filling out papers and such. “ Is. . .everything alright Tsunade?”

 

“ Perfect,” murmured Tsunade, yawning as she smiled. “ Everything went perfect. You should be healed up fully in a couple of days. . .I advise you two stay here for a couple days. Just safety wise. . .with how some of the villagers seem to not. . .be friendly toward your two's. . .relationship. . .and marriage. . .” Naruto had just nodded, holding Sunako close.

 

End Flashback

 

“ She bit me that first day,” murmurs a voice from beside them as Gaara starts and then smiles slightly, looking over toward Lee who is walking beside them. “ Shikamaru said that you hung up on him rather abruptly. . .so he told me to come check up on you two.” Gaara shrugs, holding Sunako as Lee smiles. “ Ah. . .so you two are having more trouble with those letters?”

 

“ Yes,” murmurs Naruto, nodding as they get nearer to the Hokage's Tower as Mashi giggles, eyes half lidded as Naruto smiles. “ We're getting upwards of. . .20 a day now. . .”

 

“ We got 45 total today,” whispers Gaara, holding Sunako as Naruto starts, looking toward Gaara who smiles sadly. “ I burnt most of them. . .I. . .kept this one. . .” Gaara takes a letter out, eyes half lidded as he looks at it. “ It's. . .a rather nasty one. . .” Lee tilts his head, walking up and taking the letter from Gaara who smiles sadly.

 

“ Dear 6th Hokage,

 

You and your family are worthless and of no use to this village! You are a curse upon the grand ninja village that is Konoha! You and that red-haired male-whore that you call your `husband' do not deserve to live in any village and should we killed! Your two children are abominations just like you! That boy child of your Mashi. . .and that girl child Sunako should be taken from you and thrown out into the forest for the scavengers to kill and eat,” reads Lee, eyes wide in disbelief as he looks toward Gaara who is looking away, holding Sunako close. “ H. . .How awful! Wishing such things on poor little Mashi and Sunako! And this is coming from normal villagers none the less. . .”

 

“ It's infuriating,” whispers Gaara as they stop in front of the Hokage's Tower. “ I don't care if they wish to curse me and all. . .but to wish such things upon Sunako and Mashi is unforgivable. . .they have done nothing to hurt the village or to hurt the villagers. . .”

 

“ They take it as a personal offense that they have a Hokage that prefers the company of man to that of women,” murmurs Naruto softly, opening up the door to the Tower as Gaara smiles sadly. Naruto walks up the stairs and toward the level of the Tower that he had personally converted into a livable area. “ They also take offense to the fact that the holder of the Kyuubi is now their leader. . .” Gaara sighs softly, walking into the level as he sets Sunako down in a crib as Naruto just holds Mashi close as Lee sits down in a nearby chair. “ I'm afraid that Sasuke and Temari may loose their first child together. . .”

Gaara and Lee blink as Naruto smiles sadly, looking toward them. “ I don't mean that it'll die. . .but. . .I just don't know. . .I have a bad feeling. . .”

 

“ Temari told me if it's a boy she wishes to name it Metami,” whispers Gaara, his own hand touching his stomach as he smiles ever so slightly. “ When. . .when this one gets into it's 4th month. . .we try for another. . .” Naruto and Lee blink as Gaara smiles shyly.

“ I know. . .a double pregnancy, but I'm sure Tsunade can pull off delivering Kyuu and then delivering Kitsune later. . .” Naruto blinks as Gaara smiles shyly. “ I want the next one after Kyuu to be Kitsune. . .” Naruto nods as Gaara just sighs to himself as he grins.

“ We'll have quite the family.”

 

“ That we will,” whispers Naruto as he sighs softly. “ Well. . .whatever may come. . .we'll deal with it. . .together. . .as a family.”
