A/N: I know, I know. I've really been neglecting this fic and I do apologize. I guess I just got behind in putting this one on the computer. Before I got my laptop, I used to write my fics out longhand. Now I just write on the computer. So, I got a little preoccupied with the others. I keep reading the reviews and every time I see a new one, I feel bad. Don't get me wrong, they weren't bad reviews. I feel bad because I haven't uploaded anything new. Chapter 7
Hinata was just finishing breakfast when she heard the pounding on the front door. "Damn! Keep your pants on. I'm coming," she yelled as she unlocked the door. It was Shikamaru and Temari and they were standing there with the most startled looks on their faces. When they didn't say anything Hinata laughed, "Did you two come over to show me your 'surprised' looks?"
Shikamaru finally pulled himself together. "I know this is a drag and all, but where's Naruto?" he asked.
Temari got a devilish grin on her face. "What are you doing here? Is there something we need to know about?" the blond Suna nin asked her.
Hinata blushed. "I uh, live here. Naruto-kun is helping me out. Shikamaru, he's in the shower and should be out any minute. Come on in," she said, leading the jounin couple into the living room.
Temari smirked at the blushing heiress. "Un-Hun, helping you out. I'll bet Naruto's 'helping you out' all right."
Hinata felt her face grow even redder. She didn't know Temari very well. But she did know her well enough to know the Suna jounin was very bold and outspoken. Shikamaru was just as outspoken but way lazier. She knew ever since Sasuke left, Naruto gravitated to Sakura, Shikamaru and Temari when she was in town. She started towards her room. As she passed through the living room Temari started asking her nosy questions.
"So...Hinata-sama," Temari chuckled as she addressed the heiress formally, "What's really going on here? I mean, everyone knows you *love* Naruto. But seriously, he's totally in love with you too, y'know? You're all he talked about last time he was in Sunagakure. He kept going on and on to Gaara about you. Oh hey, Naruto-kun! What's up?"
Seeing there were visitors Naruto was really glad he grabbed a towel at the last minute. "Shikamaru! Temari! What are you doing here? Ah, let me get dressed," he said crossing the hallway to his bedroom.

Now that he was fully dressed he sat down with the two jounin. "So, wanna tell me what's up?" he asked the both of them.
Shikamaru and Temari exchanged glances; they were still waiting for Kakashi and Sakura. Of course they'd told the always tardy copy nin to be there a couple hours earlier. Before they could speak there was a knock at the door. Hinata jumped up to get it.
"Is she your maid now?" Shikamaru asked wincing as Temari punched his arm.
Hinata came back in the room followed by Sakura and Kakashi.
"Well isn't this just a party? Naruto, I didn't know you had a roommate now," he said with an eye crease. He sat down and noted the blush that spread across his former students face.
Hinata decided since everyone was here to see Naruto, she was going to her room to chill for a while. When she passed through the living room everyone turned to look at her and then she was frozen in place. "What the fuck? Shikamaru damn it, let me go." Stupid Kagename; she hated being trapped by the jutsu. Remembering what Neji taught her she summoned her chakra and snapped on her Byakugan.
Shikamaru immediately released the jutsu. "Damn Hinata, you've been training with Neji again," he sighed.
"Anyway, have a seat because this concerns you too," began Kakashi, "Uchiha Sasuke and Uchiha Itachi have been spotted near the border of Fire country. ANBU reported both sightings this morning. Sasuke was spotted in Wind country and Itachi was in Lightning," the silver-haired jounin glanced over at the Hyuga heiress, who gave an involuntary shudder at Itachi's location. His uncovered eye grew slightly wider when Naruto pulled Hinata closer to him by wrapping a protective arm around her. He heard the blond whisper, 'I'll protect you no matter what.' Kakashi chuckled to himself and continued, "Naruto, Hinata and Shikamaru are going after Sasuke. Temari, since it's in Wind you have option of joining. Lord Kazekage has given his approval. Gai, Lee and I are going after Itachi, since we are well versed in fighting the Sharingan. You all have four hours. Sakura, you may join Shikamaru's group. Tsunade-sama said the decision was yours." He looked around and stood to leave.
Sakura met Kakashi's one eyed gaze. "I'm going this time. It's always good to have a medic on your team," Sakura said with a determined tone.
Hinata looked around at everyone. For some reason they were giving her looks of pity and it was pissing her off. "I'm fine. I'll be ready," she told them. They still were giving her the looks. She felt her anger rise. Sitting up straighter, she broke free of Naruto's embrace. "I said, I'm fine, damn it. So stop with the pity party already. I am FINE!!!" she finally yelled. She hated that any time Lightning country was mentioned, the pity started. It pissed her off and she couldn't do anything to change it.
"Yeah, and we all know what 'fine' means; Fucked up, Insecure, Neurotic and Emotional. Ow! Troublesome woman," Shikamaru bitched as Temari pulled his earlobe.
Naruto put his hand on Hinata's arm and pulled her back into his arms. He brushed his lips over her ear as he whispered, "I know. Its okay, they don't understand. You've got me now and I promise to protect you always." {Kit, you do realize you have an audience,} Kyuubi hissed in his mind. For now Naruto chose to ignore the demon fox. He kissed the top of her head when she laid it on his chest. He looked around at the others, who looked surprised with the exception of Sakura. She wasn't surprised in the least.

Hinata was ready to go in ten minutes. She always kept her gear ready because ninja never knew when a mission was going to come their way. She sensed Naruto come into her room. She smiled to herself and turned around to face him.
Naruto looked into her opal eyes. "Hinata-chan, I want to tell you something," he paused not sure what he wanted to say, "I care about you and I will always protect you. I guess what I'm trying to say is: I love you and I don't want to lose you."
Hinata couldn't believe it; he'd come right out and told he loved her. She couldn't hear anything over the sound of her racing heart. "Naruto-kun," she sighed walking toward him. She wrapped her arms around him and pulled him closer, "I love you too," she said looking into his blue eyes. She put her hand on the back of his head and pulled him down towards her face. Closing her eyes, she kissed him. She felt his hands slide down her sides to her hips as he pulled her closer. She wrapped her legs around his waist as he hoisted her up, groaning as her body slid along his and carried her to the bed. Shikamaru looked from Naruto to Sakura to the two kunoichi who were sitting on the ground trying to catch their breath. He shook his head. "No offense Sakura," he began, "But what the hell is wrong with girls? A minute ago I thought I was going to have to break them up. And now they're laughing? This is gonna be such a drag," he groaned motioning for everyone to gather around. "Okay, here's what were going to do: Naruto, Hinata you're taking the southwest. Temari, Sakura you're taking the northwest. I taking west, so I'll be between the two groups at all times. I want everyone to do a radio check before we leave. We'll meet up at border outpost forty-two. I want everyone to stay within 5km of me at all times. That's all, move out!" the shadow user said as his team split off in three directions.

Every few minutes Naruto would look over at Hinata. She was keeping pace with him. She noticed him looking at her and smiled at him.
She got a look of concentration on her face and snapped on her Byakugan to scan the area for any other chakra. She stopped and held up her hand then pointed down below them. They both dropped down to the lowest branch; summoning her chakra to her feet, she swung her body around so that she was hanging from the branch. She needed a closer look at that tripwire. It was a triple wire set up. The first wire was plainly visible the other two were not. As she studied the wires she recalled Neji mentioning traps like this. From a previous mission that Naruto and Shikamaru were both on. She looked up at him and motioned him to drop down too. "Does this ring any bells Naruto-kun?" She asked him after he swung down next to her.
He looked down at the trap and felt his blood boil. {It's that Uchiha bastard,} the fox hissed in his mind. 'Yeah, I think so too,' he agreed with the fox. {I'm ready if you need me kit,} Kyuubi said giving him a small shot of chakra. 'No offense, but I'm going to try to handle this on my own. I don't want to scare Hinata,' he thought. {Okay, but if you get into trouble. I'm there whether you like it of not. Self preservation, you know. Plus I like you kit,} the youkai chuckled. He noticed Hinata giving him a concerned look and grinned at her. He knew he didn't need to explain what he was doing; she understood. "Yeah, I do recognize these. Shikamaru stopped me from stepping on one of these once. The Sound Ninja Four set them," he said in a tight voice as he flipped back up on the branch.
Hinata flipped back up too and started scanning the area. She spotted three chakra signatures but before she could tell Naruto he screamed Sasuke's name."Shh...It may not be him. After all he left the Sound after he killed Orochimaru," she said in a worried voice. She cocked her head to the side and looked at him. "Did you hear that? That sounded like Temari."
Naruto slid a kunai knife out of the holder on his leg and glanced over at his girlfriend, she nodded at him. "And she sounds pissed," he said under his breath.
Hinata scanned the trees above them and spotted two of the chakra signatures she saw earlier; the third one was approaching fast and from the north. She caught his eye and cut her eyes up towards where Sasuke and the other one were. She was pretty sure that Sasuke had Sakura. She whispered 'Sakura' in voice so quiet normal hearing couldn't hear it; only those with a heightened sense of hearing could hear her. It was a trick she learned being on a team with a dog nin of years.
A small branch snapped above them and they looked up. They couldn't see a thing through the trees, well Hinata could.
"So Naruto...I see you now have not only one worthless dead weight following you around but two. Hyuga Hinata," Sasuke sneered, still high above them, "the most worthless heir to the great Hyuga clan."
Hinata motioned to Naruto that Sasuke was on the move heading down towards them and threw a kunai into the dirt in front of the tripwire. Shikamaru was on foot. She heard a low growl next to her and turned to look at Naruto. His eyes were starting to take on a red color. She touched him on the shoulder and waited for Sasuke to appear.
When he felt her hand touch his shoulder, he took a deep breath and tried to calm down some. {Grrr...I want that bastard's blood,} Kyuubi roared in his head. 'Stop now. Please, you're going to scare her,' he told the fox. {Fine...That bastard...}
Just as the missing nin dropped down to the branch across from them Temari burst through the clearing. "You slimy, piece of shit traitor. You tricked Sakura. You fucker," Temari screamed at him.
"Well, well if it isn't one of the Sabaku siblings. Temari, isn't it? Hn, and Naruto, the biggest loser at this party." The Uchiha turned to Temari. "You want her so bad? Take her; she's of no use to me," he said throwing the pink-haired kunoichi at the Sabaku, who caught her before she slammed into a tree trunk. "Hn. Three worthless kunoichi and dobe. Tsch, I shouldn't even waste my time," he sneered at them.
"That's enough, teme!" Naruto yelled to his one time friend. He could feel the fox's chakra starting to take over as his anger rose.
He didn't want to admit it to anyone but every year it was getting harder and harder to control the fox's chakra.
Hinata activated her Byakugan and saw Naruto's regular chakra trying to suppress the Kyuubi's chakra. She could feel the tension crackling between the two former best friends. She could also see Shikamaru's shadow snaking along the branches. 'Got him,' she thought.
"Nara Shikamaru! Your shadow possession won't work on me," Sasuke said, opening his eyes to reveal the red and black of the Sharingan.
"What a drag," Shikamaru said releasing the jutsu. He jumped up to the branch Hinata was on.
Hinata jumped back over to the branch Naruto was on. "What do you want? Why would you come back?" Hinata asked the Uchiha. Byakugan looked into Sharingan.
"Don't look him in the eyes, 'Nata-chan," Naruto said under his breath.
Sasuke glared at the couple, "Aw, isn't that sweet? But, I'm afraid I'm not here to fight anyone," he said before disappearing in puff of smoke.
"Damn it! Sasuke!" Naruto screamed.
"Naruto, calm down. He's gone. It's up to ANBU now," Shikamaru said.
Temari pulled the still unconscious Sakura up on her back and took off with the rest of the team.
Hinata put her hand on Naruto's shoulder and he shrugged it off. She felt the hot tears spring up and she quickly blinked them back. She took off after him wondering what he was thinking about.

Shikamaru looked from Naruto to Sakura to the two kunoichi who were sitting on the ground trying to catch their breath. He shook his head. "No offense Sakura," he began, "But what the hell is wrong with girls? A minute ago I thought I was going to have to break them up. And now they're laughing? This is gonna be such a drag," he groaned motioning for everyone to gather around. "Okay, here's what were going to do: Naruto, Hinata you're taking the southwest. Temari, Sakura you're taking the northwest. I taking west, so I'll be between the two groups at all times. I want everyone to do a radio check before we leave. We'll meet up at border outpost forty-two. I want everyone to stay within 5km of me at all times. That's all, move out!" the shadow user said as his team split off in three directions.

Every few minutes Naruto would look over at Hinata. She was keeping pace with him. She noticed him looking at her and smiled at him.
She got a look of concentration on her face and snapped on her Byakugan to scan the area for any other chakra. She stopped and held up her hand then pointed down below them. They both dropped down to the lowest branch; summoning her chakra to her feet, she swung her body around so that she was hanging from the branch. She needed a closer look at that tripwire. It was a triple wire set up. The first wire was plainly visible the other two were not. As she studied the wires she recalled Neji mentioning traps like this. From a previous mission that Naruto and Shikamaru were both on. She looked up at him and motioned him to drop down too. "Does this ring any bells Naruto-kun?" She asked him after he swung down next to her.
He looked down at the trap and felt his blood boil. {It's that Uchiha bastard,} the fox hissed in his mind. 'Yeah, I think so too,' he agreed with the fox. {I'm ready if you need me kit,} Kyuubi said giving him a small shot of chakra. 'No offense, but I'm going to try to handle this on my own. I don't want to scare Hinata,' he thought. {Okay, but if you get into trouble. I'm there whether you like it of not. Self preservation, you know. Plus I like you kit,} the youkai chuckled. He noticed Hinata giving him a concerned look and grinned at her. He knew he didn't need to explain what he was doing; she understood. "Yeah, I do recognize these. Shikamaru stopped me from stepping on one of these once. The Sound Ninja Four set them," he said in a tight voice as he flipped back up on the branch.
Hinata flipped back up too and started scanning the area. She spotted three chakra signatures but before she could tell Naruto he screamed Sasuke's name."Shh...It may not be him. After all he left the Sound after he killed Orochimaru," she said in a worried voice. She cocked her head to the side and looked at him. "Did you hear that? That sounded like Temari."
Naruto slid a kunai knife out of the holder on his leg and glanced over at his girlfriend, she nodded at him. "And she sounds pissed," he said under his breath.
Hinata scanned the trees above them and spotted two of the chakra signatures she saw earlier; the third one was approaching fast and from the north. She caught his eye and cut her eyes up towards where Sasuke and the other one were. She was pretty sure that Sasuke had Sakura. She whispered 'Sakura' in voice so quiet normal hearing couldn't hear it; only those with a heightened sense of hearing could hear her. It was a trick she learned being on a team with a dog nin of years.
A small branch snapped above them and they looked up. They couldn't see a thing through the trees, well Hinata could.
"So Naruto...I see you now have not only one worthless dead weight following you around but two. Hyuga Hinata," Sasuke sneered, still high above them, "the most worthless heir to the great Hyuga clan."
Hinata motioned to Naruto that Sasuke was on the move heading down towards them and threw a kunai into the dirt in front of the tripwire. Shikamaru was on foot. She heard a low growl next to her and turned to look at Naruto. His eyes were starting to take on a red color. She touched him on the shoulder and waited for Sasuke to appear.
When he felt her hand touch his shoulder, he took a deep breath and tried to calm down some. {Grrr...I want that bastard's blood,} Kyuubi roared in his head. 'Stop now. Please, you're going to scare her,' he told the fox. {Fine...That bastard...}
Just as the missing nin dropped down to the branch across from them Temari burst through the clearing. "You slimy, piece of shit traitor. You tricked Sakura. You fucker," Temari screamed at him.
"Well, well if it isn't one of the Sabaku siblings. Temari, isn't it? Hn, and Naruto, the biggest loser at this party." The Uchiha turned to Temari. "You want her so bad? Take her; she's of no use to me," he said throwing the pink-haired kunoichi at the Sabaku, who caught her before she slammed into a tree trunk. "Hn. Three worthless kunoichi and dobe. Tsch, I shouldn't even waste my time," he sneered at them.
"That's enough, teme!" Naruto yelled to his one time friend. He could feel the fox's chakra starting to take over as his anger rose.
He didn't want to admit it to anyone but every year it was getting harder and harder to control the fox's chakra.
Hinata activated her Byakugan and saw Naruto's regular chakra trying to suppress the Kyuubi's chakra. She could feel the tension crackling between the two former best friends. She could also see Shikamaru's shadow snaking along the branches. 'Got him,' she thought.
"Nara Shikamaru! Your shadow possession won't work on me," Sasuke said, opening his eyes to reveal the red and black of the Sharingan.
"What a drag," Shikamaru said releasing the jutsu. He jumped up to the branch Hinata was on.
Hinata jumped back over to the branch Naruto was on. "What do you want? Why would you come back?" Hinata asked the Uchiha. Byakugan looked into Sharingan.
"Don't look him in the eyes, 'Nata-chan," Naruto said under his breath.
Sasuke glared at the couple, "Aw, isn't that sweet? But, I'm afraid I'm not here to fight anyone," he said before disappearing in puff of smoke.
"Damn it! Sasuke!" Naruto screamed.
"Naruto, calm down. He's gone. It's up to ANBU now," Shikamaru said.
Temari pulled the still unconscious Sakura up on her back and took off with the rest of the team.
Hinata put her hand on Naruto's shoulder and he shrugged it off. She felt the hot tears spring up and she quickly blinked them back. She took off after him wondering what he was thinking about.
