Chapter 2
Doggie Dare

“Kitty, wait up!” Beth yelled as she ran toward the girl on the stairs.
Kitty watched her best friend run toward her in blue jeans and a Resident Evil t-shirt. She was carrying an armful of books and her backpack was hanging off one arm. Kitty gave a sigh as she mentally counted to three. As soon as she reached the last number, Beth tripped over her own feet and face planted on the sidewalk, her books scattering everywhere.
Kitty rolled her eyes and knelt down next to her friend, being mindful of her short black skirt that had purple corseting down the sides. She started gathering the books together. Her breasts almost falling out of her matching corset as she did so.
“How many times do I have to tell you not run? You are so clumsy you always end up falling.” Kitty scolded.
“I know, but I was just so excited to see you. Plus, it's Friday and we are going to spend the weekend together. A five day weekend at that.” Beth answered as she stood and brushed herself off.
Kitty smiled, giving the girl her books back. They had been best friends since the beginning of high school. Now they were into their senior year with less then three months to go before they graduated. They had already planned a senior trip with five other friends and things were getting hectic with finals coming up soon.
“Well I'm glad you're easy to please.” Kitty said, her contagious laughter feeling the air.
They entered the school together as they debated on what they were going to do for the weekend. They entered their homeroom and were instantly bombarded by Lindsey and Kaitlyn. They were dragged to the back of the classroom and they took a spot.
“So what do you guys have planned for the weekend?” Linz asked.
“We haven't decided yet.” Kitty answered honestly.
“Maybe you guys should make a trip to Silent Hill.” Chris joked as he came walking over to them with Ryan close behind.
Kat launched herself into Chris' waiting arms and they sank into a kiss. Linz rolled her eyes at her childhood friend and sauntered over to Ryan's desk plopping down on top of it. He ran his hands up her stocking covered legs as he kissed her lightly on the cheek.
“That was random.” Kitty said loudly, hoping the comment would stop the make out session in front of her before she puked.
Success as Chris pulled away from his girl to flash a wicked smile at Kitty. She raised an eyebrow in inquiry, but didn't say anything. She did push his ass off her desk when he plopped down on it. He stuck his tongue out childishly and sat on Kat's desk.
“So what about Silent Hill?” Beth asked interested.
“We were watching a special about it last night.”
“So did I.” Kat and Linz said in unison. “Jinx you owe me a coke.” Once again in unison.
“Anyway,” Ryan cutting in. “They were talking about a cult that was based there.”
“It was crazy stuff. I've never seen anything like it in my life.” Linz added in a hushed whisper. “They were saying how you can get sucked into another dimension.”
“Apparently, there have been victims that have survived, but they refuse to talk about it in fear for their lives.” Chris said with a laugh.
“Why are you laughing?” Linz hissed throwing a pencil at the blond haired boy.
“Come on. You can't tell me you believe that shit.” Chris retorted.
“You never know.” Kitty out in.
“Anything is possible.” Beth added.
“I think you all are way too superstitious for your own good, playing with your tarot cards thinking they can predict your future. It's all bullshit and you guys know it.”
“Put a cork in it motor mouth.” Linz hissed.
“You know nothing.” Kitty responded in agreement. “You have no respect for the cards therefore you will never understand.” She raised to her feet her Doc Martins making no sound as they moved across the linoleum. She stopped in front of Chris with hard lavender eyes. “So don't knock what you don't know.” She snapped.
“You're such a bitch.” Chris said irritated.
“I know.” She had a charming smile on her lips as she walked away.
She was debating about skipping first period. Hell, she was considering all day. She needed to get some fresh air though. Maybe have a cigarette. All this talk of Silent Hill was making her really uneasy for some reason. She made it halfway across the classroom when Chris' voice stopped her cold in her tracks.
“I dare you to go stay the weekend at Silent Hill.” She spun around to face him as her eyes flashed hatred. “Bring something back as proof that there is something other then people at Silent Hill.”
Kitty's eyes narrowed as she slowly moved back over to him. Did Chris really take her for a fool? He must have if he was suggesting such a ludicrous idea. She stopped inches away from his face as she placed her hands on her hips.
“Why, pray tell, would I take such a dare when I'm not the one question the inner works of Silent Hill? If anything, I should be daring YOU to go to Silent Hill and bring something back.” She stated in a deadly calm voice, everyone knew she was fuming though.
“Because I just doggie dared you.” Chris said with a satisfied smile.
Everyone knew Kitty was never one to back out of challenge, especially one that Chris just laid out in front of her. It was obvious, by the look on Kitty's face, that she and Chris wouldn't be friends after this one. She sneered and grabbed his hand that he held out to her. Sealing the deal and her fate.
She did grab her bag and headed toward the door. She wasn't staying around for another boring day of school; especially if she had to see Chris, most of her she could strangle him. This being the case, she decided skipping school was her better option. As she was walking out her homeroom teacher came in.
“To get some cupcakes at the store, before you get there and clean them out, fat ass.” She yelled over her shoulder and then slammed the door shut behind her.
She took off in a dead run as soon as she was in the hall. She could hear Kakashi yelling, but she didn't pay attention to a word he said as she disappeared outside the building. She headed over to the parking lot while digging through her purse for her keys.
She unlocked the door and climbed in. She pulled out a cigarette and lighter. She lit the end of her smoke and took a huge drag. She let it out slowly as the situation sunk in. She was going to Silent Hill. Was she fucking crazy? She was starting to question that.
Everyone knew that town was bad news, so what was she thinking. Was she trying to sign her own death warrant? She took another long drag and let it out as she flicked the excess ash off her cherry. She stared at her steering wheel for a long time.
Suddenly, her passenger side door opened and Beth hoped in. Kitty stared at her best friend in surprise. The girl never skipped school. She has always been a teacher's pet and was the one that would stay after school just to hang out with Genma Shiranui.
“What are you doing?” Kitty asked.
“I'm going with you.” She stated as if she wouldn't take no as an answer.
Kitty couldn't help, but to smile. She took another long drag of her smoke as she started her car. She flicked the chair out the window then rolled it up. She turned back to look at Beth as she put her car into drive. She flashed her a wink.
“Buckle up gorgeous. Let's go get something to eat.”
“Sounds good.”
“Where would you like to eat?” Kitty asked while leaving the parking lot.
“Fast food's fine.” There was a long silence in the car as they drove. Beth then turned to face her friend. “Are we really going to Silent Hill?”
“I am, but you don't have too.” Kitty told her as she maneuvered the car into a parking spot.
“No way, you're going a lone. I would never let you have all the fun.” Beth answered with a toss of her head.
“This is why you are my best friend.”
They entered the building. There was almost nobody in the restaurant. Which Kitty preferred. She didn't really care for crowds. They always made her uneasy. She tried to avoid them at all costs. Beth was the more outgoing of the two and get along with anyone. She was very friendly, where Kitty was more blunt and harsh. They were exact opposites.
They made it work though. You know what they say, opposites attract. Kitty made her way to the back of the lobby and took a seat in the corner. Beth sat across from the girl as they waited for their food to arrive.
“When do we leave?” Beth questioned, placing her chin on her right hand.
“Well we need to pack so I'd say we do that after we eat, then we can go.”
“How long do you think it will take to get there?”
“I don't know. I would think at least four to five hours.” Kitty responded as the server placed their food on the table and walked off.
They both dug in to their meals, famished. Kitty took a bite of her hamburger, looking outside. She was getting more uneasy with every second that went by. Her conscious telling her, this trip was a bad idea. She usually listened to her intuition, but this time she didn't. For some reason, there was like an unknown force calling to her. Telling her she needed to go to Silent Hill, like there was something there that she needed to do.
“Kakashi-Sensei was so livid when you left. I never saw his face so red with anger. Hopefully by the time we go back to school, he will have forgotten about it or you'll be in a shit load of trouble.” Beth explained with a snicker.
“I don`t really care. I only spoke the truth.” Kitty was so nonchalant about it that Beth couldn't help but giggle.
“You are so determined to have Kakashi hating you by the time you graduate.”
“Babygurl, I think he already hates me and I could care less.”
Kitty popped a fry in her mouth as she winked at Beth. A light blush covered the bridge of Beth's nose and she busied herself with her food. Silence resumed and Kitty's attention went back to outside. She thought about all the rumors that were told about Silent Hill. She wondered how many of them were actually true.
“Are you scared?” Kitty asked as she turned her attention back to Beth.
“A little.” Came the soft words after a brief pause. “What about you?”
“I'm very uneasy with the thought of going there, but I feel that I have to go. Like there really isn't any choice in the matter.”
“Weird.” Beth said with a shiver. “Why do you think that could be?”
“I have no clue, but there's only one way to find out.”
Beth agreed with that, but it really didn't make her feel any better. She just hoped that everything said about this mysterious city was a lie, because she really didn't want to face the horrors. She glanced at Kitty who was now staring back out the window again.
“As long as I'm with you, I'm not afraid of anything.” Beth stated bravely, tipping her chin up so her nose was in the air.
Kitty smiled affectionately at her best friend. Beth always made her feel so important, so strong. Even though she knew, she really wasn't. She reached out and placed her hand on top of her best friends. She squeezed it, comfortingly.
“Thank you, Beth.” Kitty stood and grabbed her tray. “Let's get out of here.”
“Good idea.”
They threw their garbage away and then made to the car. Kitty headed to Beth's house so she could pack first. The car pulled into the parking lot. She parked the vehicle and Beth led the way to her front door.
She slid her key in the lock and then pushed the door open as she slipped the key out. They made their way inside, slamming the door shut behind them. No one was home, so they didn't have to explain why they were home from school at ten am.
Kitty plopped down on Beth's bed. She watched as her friend grabbed a suitcase. She quickly got things together, shoving them inside the bag. Kitty fell backwards on the bed as she listened to her friend rustle around.
Beth quickly changed her shirt to a black t-shirt with a Nintendo logo on it. She walked out of the bedroom. She went to the bathroom and gathered her supplies. She glanced up and caught her reflection in the mirror.
She slowly placed a strand of hair behind her ear. Her face was pale and she looked like she'd seen a ghost. She figured in a way she had. All she had been thinking about was the horror stories that had been told.
She wasn't lying when she told Kitty that she felt safe with her, but that still didn't mean she wasn't afraid. She really didn't want to go at all. She wondered why Kitty felt so compelled to go though. What could possible be in Silent Hill, that she would need to find? Beth knows she really didn't have a choice on whether she was going or not. She needed to watch over her best friend.
iHiHHhHhHill
She shook away her thoughts and made her way back to her room. Kitty was in the same place when Beth left. She was just quietly staring at the ceiling. Beth smiled lovingly and finished packing. When she was done, she turned her attention back to her best friend. Kitty glanced at her.
“Ready?”
“Yeah.” Beth responding grabbing her now closed suitcase.
They went back out to the car and climbed in. Kitty looked at the time and grimaced. Her stepmother was still home and Kitty knew the woman was going to pry. She started her car, not looking forward to going home.
It only took five minutes to get to her house. She parked and cut the engine. She stared out the window as she watched her front door. There was movement behind the curtained window. She sneered and opened her door. Beth followed suit, but not really wanting too. Kitty's stepmother was just as crazy as her own mother, if not worse.
Kitty pushed open the front door and made a beeline straight to her room, praying her stepmother, Laura, didn't see her. She wasn't that lucky. She got halfway to her door and the women came around the corner. Kitty groaned as her name was called. She slowly turned to face Laura.
“What are you doing home? You're suppose to be in school. Are you skipping again?” The women yelled.
“Why do you care?” Kitty snapped.
“If you don't stop doing this we'll take your car away.”
“You can't touch my car.” Kitty stated with a snarl. “My REAL mother bought it for me and I'm on her insurance, so you can't touch it.”
She knew that would piss Laura off, but she couldn't help but rub in the fact that she had someone that cared. If Laura had it her way, there would be no one left for Kitty to run too. She had already lost her father, because of the women.
“I can stop you by locking you in your room.” Laura was acting too smug for Kitty's taste.
She decided she was done with this conversation. She turned away and went into her room. She went to shut the door, but the bitch stopped her, b placing her foot in between the frame and door. Kitty growled in annoyance and glared at the blonde women.
“Don't you have something better to do then rag on me, like brainwash my father?” She hissed, crossing her arms.
Laura raised her hand and slapped Kitty hard. The sound of flesh hitting flesh bounced off the walls in the now extremely silent room. Beth looked horrified as Kitty's arms fell to her sides as she clenched her fists, trying to control her own growing anger.
“How dare you!” Laura hissed in outrage.
“I dare, because it's the fucking truth.” Kitty growled. “Now get out of my fucking room.”
Laura could tell that Kitty was on the brink of snapping. She smiled a wicked smile and moved closer. Kitty's eyes narrowed in suspicion. She didn't like that look at all. It usually meant trouble for herself. She glanced at Beth. The girl looked terrified. Kitty needed to end this encounter as soon as possible.
“Beth, my bag is in the closest. Will you pack me some clothes, while I deal with this?” Her friend looked hesitant, but did as she was told.
“What?” Laura said in surprise. “You are not going anywhere.”
“I beg a difference, mother dearest. I have a five day weekend and there is no way in hell, I'm staying here.” Kitty informed Laura as sweetly as possible.
“Oh no you don't.”
“And you're going to stop me with what army?” Kitty asked smugly.
Laura looked like she wanted to kill her. Kitty ignored it as she glanced at Beth. The girl was almost done with the clothes. Kitty thought quickly on how she was going to be able to leave, without manhandling her stepmother.
“I'm going to call your father and you can deal with him.” Kitty sneered at the comment.
“Let's be a little smarter, Laura. You know father won't do anything. Why do you think he married you in the first place? It's certainly not because he loved you. It's because he's sick of being a father. So he found you to dump his children on so he didn't have to deal with us.”
Laura went to slap her again, but kitty wasn't going to let her have another. She caught her stepmother's hand as she glared at the women. Laura looked surprised, to say the least. In all the time, they had been a family, which was nine years; Kitty had never once tried to defend herself. Laura hadn't expected the girl to be so strong and actually be able to stop the momentum of her swing.
“You've had one too many hits on me already.” Kitty growled in a soft voice. “I refuse to let you have anymore.”
She let go of her stepmother's hand as she glanced at Beth. The girl put the rest of Kitty's stuff and zipped it closed. Kitty glanced down at herself and decided she would need to change before they headed out.
First, she needed to get out of this house. She felt Beth come up behind her and place a light grip on her forearm. She took a deep breath and started out of her room, but her stepmother purposely blocked her way.
“You're not leaving Kitty.” Laura hissed.
“Oh, I'm leaving alright and either you move out of my fucking way or I make you.” Kitty forewarned.
Laura never listened though. Therefore, Kitty went to shove past her, but her stepmother slammed her up against the wall. Kitty clenched her teeth against the pain and glared at the bitch her father had married. How every did he get mixed up with this?
“I said you're not leaving Kitty, so stop rebelling.” Laura snapped.
Kitty raised her leg, and then brought the heel of her high heel boot down on her stepmother's bare foot. A scream of pain erupted from Laura as three of her toes broke. Kitty shoved her back and started down the hall at a full sprint.
“Come on Beth.” She cried and they both ran out of the house at full speed. They jumped into the car and sped off down the street not looking back.
