Chapter 3
Strange and Strangers
Itachi dose in and out of sleep the whole trip. Hayate drove in silence; the only noise was the radio playing. The trip was mostly boring nothing exciting going on in the process of getting to where they were going.
Unfortunately, the map showed no signs of a Silent Hill. They had to constantly stop and ask for directions, which proved to be a mission all together. Half the time, people would just walk away at the mention of the forbidden town. Others would just look at them like they were crazy and told them to avoid the place if they knew what was good. Some pedestrians didn't know what the place was and a select few actually told them where they were going, and then shook their heads while walking off.
Halfway through the trip, Itachi just let Hayate handle it. He was so irritated with all the fuss. The fact that he didn't like people very much anyway, so this was quite the challenge for him. He would just wait in the car for his friend to return.
Itachi was jolted awake when the speed of the car reduced dramatically. He sat up looking around confused. He could barely see an inch in front of the hood. The fog was so dense and dark out. Itachi looked over at Hayate who was squinting hard so that he could try to make out the road.
“How long had it been like this?” Itachi asked groggily.
“It was kind of foggy before you woke up then suddenly, out of nowhere it was like this.”
“This is epic. I've never seen fog like this ever.” Itachi muttered to himself.
“Yeah, I never have driven in anything like this in my life. I'm almost tempted to pull over and wait it out.”
“It'll never pass.” Itachi answered suddenly.
“How do you know?” Hayate asked, skeptically.
“I don't know exactly. Just something telling me that it won't.” Itachi responded, truthfully.
Hayate glanced at him confused, but didn't reply. They continued in silence. It was quite the accomplishment on Hayate's part to keep the car on the road. Itachi seem to zone out as he stared out the passenger window.
“Oh shit!” Hayate yelled as he turned the wheel hard and slammed on the brake.
They skidded across the streets as the brakes locked up tightly. Itachi grabbed the dashboard as a large tree came in sight. He knew they were going to hit. Hayate gripped the steering wheel tightly as the front of his Mustang collided with the tree.
There was a loud crunching noise as the hood caved in on it's self. Then the airbags deployed almost simultaneously with impact and all the boys saw was white. Both Hayate and Itachi thanked the makers of vehicles for coming out with such brilliant idea.
They both blindly looked around for the door handle, so they could get out of the wrecked vehicle. Hayate located it first and literally fell out of the car. He looked over at Itachi and saw him struggling to get the door open.
Hayate glanced at the front of the Mustang and cringed. His car was totaled. Plus, there was no way Itachi was getting out through the passenger door. It was completely jammed. He leaned down so he could see Itachi.
“That door's not going to budge. Can you get out on this side?” Hayate informed.
Itachi sneered, but managed to maneuver his body over the middle consul and out the driver's door. He wasn't as shaky as Hayate, but he was still a little unsteady on his feet. He glanced back at the car and let out a heavy sigh. It was sad to see such a beautiful piece of work so destroyed.
“What the hell happened?” Itachi growled out, setting hard cold eyes on his best friend.
“It wasn't my fault. That fucking SUV came out of nowhere and almost hit us.” Hayate yelled as he pointed in the direction of the other car. They both turned to face it. “Oh shit.” Hayate stated as they both saw the flipped Ford Explore.
Itachi ran to the car, stepping in the glass from the broken windows. He leaned down by the driver side door. He couldn't see the driver very well, but he knew the person was unconscious. He saw a flick of movement just past the driver.
“Hayate, passenger side.” Itachi commanded as he covered his hand with the sleeve of his shirt and broke away the rest of the glass.
He pushed himself into the window as much as he could to get to the seat belt. He unsnapped it and carefully sliding it off the trapped victim. The first thing he noticed was the decent sized breasts. Second thing he realized was that she was bleeding… a lot. Third thing that was brought to his attention was she looked familiar.
Hiss heart sped up and he worked faster to get her out of the car. His finally got her fully out of the seat belt and now he was trying to move her at the right angle to get her from the car without bumping her around too much in case she was severely injured.
“Um Itachi, I got the passenger out and she's fine, but the car is leaking a lot of gas.” Hayate told him in a worried voice.
That's when the smell hit him hard. It was gasoline and it smelled like a lot of it. A new panic came over Itachi and he found himself frantically trying to get the girl our, not caring about her wounds. He needed to get them both away from the car.
“Hayate, move far away.” Itachi yelled as he got most of her upper body out the window.
Hayate didn't hesitate. He half carried, half dragged the girl with him down the street. Itachi tugged again on the unconscious female as he heard sparks from the front of the vehicle. The girl wasn't budging and he was starting to sweat. He let go of her and tried to get through the window enough to see what was wrong.
Her legs were twisted a little and her foot was stuck on the steering wheel. There were frantic shouts behind him, but he ignored them as he moved the girl's legs around. She was free of the steering wheel now and she was coming around. He pulled out of the vehicle, wrapped his arms under hers, and yanked hard.
They both fell backwards, her on top of him. He grunted at the impact and looked at her. Her eyes opened slowly as she looked at him confused. He was shocked. It was the girl from his vision and she was still just as gorgeous. Her lavender eyes stealing his breath away.
He shook his head in annoyance. He didn't have time for this. He had to get them away from the wreckage. He sat up as he leaned her to the side. He rose to his feet and helped her to hers as he wrapped a strong arm around her waist.
She leaned heavily on him, but she could at least still walk. They headed toward Hayate and the other unknown girl. They were halfway there when an explosion echoed through the night. Itachi reacted fast as screams flooded his mind. He pushed the girl down to the cement and covered her protectively with his body.
Parts of the fire on his back. The body under him was shaking hard. Footsteps were getting louder with each step. Itachi took that as a good sign and rolled off the girl laying on his back staring up at the fog dense sky.
“Are you guys okay?” Hayate asked worriedly.
“Kitty, talk to me? Are you okay? Oh my god, you're bleeding! Let me find something to bandage it. Do you need anything?” Beth asked frantically.
“I need you to shut the fuck up.” Kitty snapped in a groggy voice as she rolled over and sat up.
She placed a palm to her forehead and cringed as the cut stung. She pulled her hand away and looked at the blood soaking her fingers. Beth leaned down next to her after ripping off a part of her shirt and cleaned at the wound.
“Hey, everyone might want to check this out.” Everyone looked up at the sound of Hayate's voice.
He was pointing toward the wreck. They all turned to look at the burning car, and then noticed the billboard behind it. The sign was big and with red letters read. Welcome to Silent Hill. Beth gasped as she clenched Kitty's arm. Itachi's gaze narrowed as he quickly glanced around, feeling as though someone was watching them.
“What a great way to start a vacation.” Kitty stated sarcastically.
Both Beth and Hayate laughed in surprise and looked at the injured girl. She just shrugged her shoulders as if it was nothing out of the ordinary. She wobbly rose to her feet and steadied herself with a hand on her best friend's shoulder.
“I'm glad that we found the place, but this damn city now owes me a new fucking car.”
“Why were you looking for this place?” Itachi demanded in an ice-cold voice refusing to look at the girl.
“It was a dare. I got suckered into it, by a couple of stupid boys.” She answered, nonchalantly.
Itachi looked at her then with almost black eyes. They seemed to burn into her soul. She almost took a few steps back at the intensity of his gaze. Fortunately, she wasn't the type to sulk away like a frightened kitten.
“That's the stupidest reason I've ever heard of.” Itachi replied in a flat voice.
“No one asked for your opinion.” Kitty retorted.
This caused Itachi to raise a thin black eyebrow as he took the time to look her over. She was a couple inches smaller then himself. Her hair was done the same way as in his vision. She wore tore up jeans that were not store bought. She wore a black and red corset that had puffy red sleeves that only covered her shoulders. The top of the corset rode low on her breasts that they were practically popping out. Itachi's only though was that the girl was a slut.
The other girl was taller. She was the same height as him. She had shoulder length brown hair with chocolate brown eyes. Both girls were about the same built, not skinny but definitely not overweight. They were healthy looking, which was one of the main things Itachi liked in girls. Anyway, the other girl was more casually dressed with jeans and a Nintendo logo shirt. Itachi found himself thinking how Hayate and her were perfect for each other.
“So I'm Hayate and the asshole on the ground is Itachi.” Hayate held out his hand to Beth.
“Beth and the smart ass is Kitty.” She took it and they shook in greeting.
“Hey!” Itachi and Kitty yelled in unison at their best friends.
Beth and Hayate laughed as a blush crossed Kitty's face as she turned away from Itachi. The man on the ground felt an electrical charge run through his body. He found the girl attractive, that much was for sure, but she wasn't his type at all. So why was he so drawn to her?
“So what do we do now?” Hayate asked, breaking the silence.
“We could go back to the gas station we past and call for help, since my cell isn't working.” Itachi said, snapping his phone shut.
Everyone else grabbed their phones too. They were all in a dead zone. Kitty placed her phone back in her back pocket looking annoyed. She rubbed her arms trying to fight off the chill that was seeping into her bones.
“I guess that's the best thing to do.” Kitty answered.
“Are you sure you're up for it?” Beth said concerned. “You're still bleeding a little bit.”
“I think it's best we stay together and I'm fine. Don't worry so much.” Kitty started, heading down the street, but Itachi's voice stopped her.
“I've got to get something out of the car first.”
Kitty turned to see Itachi and Hayate heading back toward the Mustang. She glanced at Beth when she felt a clammy hand slide into her cold one. Beth was watching the two guys too. She could see the anxiety in her eyes.
“Do you think we can trust them?” Beth whispered.
Kitty didn't know how she should answer that question. She still wasn't for sure herself, but she didn't feel threatened by them, so that was a good thing. She just shrugged her shoulders in response as she watched the boy's move back to them again.
“Here.” Itachi growled as he held out one of his zip up sweater he pulled out of his suitcase.
She stared at it as if it was the plague and then looked up at Itachi with big lavender eyes. He found himself being pulled in. She was so mysterious and complicated. Her eyes were so much different then the rest of her. It was almost like her eyes belonged to someone else. Someone who wasn't so straightforward and confident. This girl had a past just like him.
“Why?'
“Because none of us can afford to get sick.” He answered.
Her hand rose and grabbed on to the warm cotton material. He let go and turned away almost immediately. He really didn't like this girl at all. She did weird things to his nerves. He glanced over in time to see her zip up the sweater. He found himself admiring how well she looked in his clothes. He gritted his teeth in annoyance as he turned away again.
“Let's go.” Itachi ordered.
They all headed back the direction Itachi and Hayate had come from. They were all lost in their own thoughts so none of them had much to say to one another. The night was eerily quiet and the only thing around was the thick fog.
Beth was walking a few steps ahead of Kitty and Hayate was almost right next to her. Beth glanced back to make sure Kitty was still close by. She smiled at her friend and opened her mouth, but nothing came out except for a blood curtling scream.
Suddenly, she was falling and her life was flashing before her eyes. Her childhood memories, her family, her first kiss, the day she met Kitty. She was sure she was going to die.
Instead, she felt a tight grip along her wrist and a hard jerk in her arm as her whole body came to a sudden stop. She let out a squeak of pain and opened her eyes looking up to see dark brown eyes.
“Are you okay?” Hayate's voice was strained.
She nodded, tears starting to form in her eyes. He brought his other arm down and wrapped his hand along her bicep. He pulled her up slowly. As son as she was on solid ground again, she wrapped her arms tightly around Hayate's neck, sobbing into his chest.
Kitty stood behind them, her whole body shaking as she held a hand over her mouth. She was so relieved she could have cried herself. She had almost lost her best friend. She watched as Hayate comforted Beth. One hand stroking her hair as the other one ran up and down her back.
“Thank god.” Kitty whispered.
Her vision blurred and she suddenly felt light headed. She started to go falling backwards, but never hit the ground. Itachi had his arm wrapped around her waist. When she looked up at him. He refused to acknowledge her.
“Does this seem weird to anybody else?” Hayate asked as he rested his cheek on top of Beth's hair.
“It's looked like Silent Hill doesn't want us to leave now that it has us here.” Itachi said quietly.
“So what are we going to do?” Itachi looked down at the girl in his arm.
“I say we go to Silent Hill. Maybe we can find somewhere to rest. I know I could use some sleep.” Itachi slowly removed his arm from around Kitty slowly making sure she could once again support herself.
“Are you okay now?” Beth nodded her head and gave Hayate a watery smile.
“Yes, thank you. You saved my life.”
“It's nothing. I would have done the same for any of you guys.” Hayate's cheeks were slightly tinted with pink to express his embarrassment.
“You're too cute.” Beth said with a smile as she hugged the man again just for good measure.
Hayate looked surprised at first, and then hugged her back. A small smile tilting up the corner of his lips. He really liked this girl a lot. She was really cute in an adorable way. He helped her up when she pulled away.
“So we're actually going to do this?”
“I guess so.” Kitty threw over her shoulder as she followed Itachi back toward the wreckage.
Both, Beth and Hayate, resigned to their fates. Going after the black haired duo as they made their way into Silent Hill. Kitty swallowed hard as a feeling of dread washed over her. She had an insane feeling that she was going to die here and her only hope for escape would be Itachi.
Itachi still couldn't believe what was going on here. He was starting to freak himself out and Kitty was haunting him. Why had he seen this girl in his thoughts only to run into her in real life? Here in Silent Hill. It made no sense whatsoever, but he had a feeling he needed to keep this girl near no matter what the cost.
