Chapter 5- Don't say it
Aza's voice was surreal, a rare type of beauty that one rarely heard. It resonated and revibrated through the clearing, engulfing Sakura in it's melancholy tones.
'yes...' Sakura thought, 'melancholy is a good way to describe it...'
As Aza danced, her song told the story of a young woman, foolish and afraid, who had abandon her child after a hardship.
"My child, my child, I know I have hurt you..." she sang, tears brimming once more in her eyes, "But you must know, I will always love you" She whimpered, but her feet never faltered. There was such a grace, such a beauty, to the dance, that Sakura hardly even minded when her voice wavered.
"My child, my boy, fight with his power..."
'who's power?', Inner- Sakura asked in confusion.
"Make him proud, defeat the kyuubi's dour..."
Sakura's eyes snapped upward, away from Aza's feet, and she questioned, "Did you just say... Kyuubi?"
Naruto's breath hitched, and he leaned forward in hopes of an explanation.
"I did..." Aza, halted mid-dance, sat down in a ruffle of fabric, tucking her legs under her, "Why di you ask?"
Sakura chewed on her lower lip, "N-no reason...so, why do you use the kyuubi in your song?"
Aza sighed as though carrying a great burden, and fixed her timeless eyes on Sakura, "When I was very young, seventeen, I encountered the wrath of kyuubi, and lost my beloved..."
Sakura looked down, "I'm sorry..."
Aza laughed, coldly, distantly, "No, it's okay... It feels...good to tell some one of that day. I've kept it bottled up for twelve years, but can I trust you?"
Sakura nodded eagerly, "Yes, you can trust me! I won't tell anyone!"
Aza looked toward the earth, where little sprouts of grass had worked their way into the air. "Do you see these blades of grass Sakura?"
Sakura leaned over and nodded, glancing at the grass, "Yeah, why?"
Aza smiled in a wise way, the way a gypsy smiled before revealing the secrets that ones palm had shown them, "Ah but do you see their bravery? Their resilliance?"
Sakura's face contorted in confusion, "It's just grass..."
Sighing, the gypsy nodded, "I suppose you're right."
Imploringly, Sakura prodded, "Your secret?"
Blinking, Aza looked at Sakura, "I'm sorry dear! I'd completely forgotten! Anyway," She pinched a blade of grass, ripping it from the earth, "These little buds of grass have to over come many things. Being trod upon by animals and humans, but first, they must push through the soil. After that momentous accompishment, what do they have to show for it?"
"Um..."
"My point is that they work through so much, for what is, essential, nothing. No glory, no joy, no better future. Just simply exsisting. If they are able to work so hard for such a small, trivial reward, why was I so weak taht I abandon my own child?"
It clicked. Sakura knew why the woman appeared so aged, so wise.
"You left your child?"
Aza nodded mournfully, putting her hands over her face, "He was two months old, yet he managed to...to bring out such contrasting emotions! He was a human contradiction. My love was real, and my feeling of pride, but...so was the fear, and the helplessness I felt when I saw him."
"What do you mean?"
Aza plucked another blade of grass, smiling reufully, "You have heard of the Kyuubi's rampage and imprisonment, have you not?"
Sakura nodded, "Yes, I know alot about that."
"Well, little pink one," Sakura cringed, but did not protest to the nickname, "I was here, those twelve years ago, when Kyuubi attacked. Coincidentally," Aza glanced at the sky, "That is also the night that I, at seventeen years, gave birth to my first child, a beautiful baby boy."
Sakura held her breath, waiting for the mesmerizing, mournful woman to continue her story. She heard Sasuke, in the bushes, slip away, muttering about a waste of time, and she heard Naruto begin to fall asleep, his breath even. But she wanted, no, HAD to stay, had to find out what had caused this woman to become so sad that Sakura could almost feel it pressing down on her.
"My husband died," Sakura looked up with a start, "Nani? could you repeat that please?"
"My husband, well, my lover really, we had yet to marry..." Aza seemed to weigh her words, "the night the kyuubi attacked. In fact, he died fighting the kyuubi... And then my son, so beautiful, was used...t-to..." tears sprang to Aza's eyes, and Sakura's breath became shallow.
'no no no no' Inner-Sakura begged, 'don't say it! don't say it! don't say-'
"He was used to imprison the Kyuubi."
kougasmate- Oh no! A cliff hanger! review or I won't finish it! I'm so evil. -smiles innocently-
