I went back and forth so many times about this song and then I read the lyrics one more time and thought, 'Yeah...That works'.
You Know You're Right-Nirvana
I would never bother you
I would never promise to
I will never follow you
I will never bother you
Never speak a word again
I will crawl away for good
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew it would come to this
Things have never been so swell
And I have never failed to fail
Pain!
You know you're right
It's so warm and calm inside
I no longer have to hide
There's talk about someone else
Steaming, soon begins to melt
Nothin' really bothers her
She just wants to love herself
I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear
No thought was put into this
I always knew it'd come to this
Things have never been so swell
And I have never failed to fail
Pain!
You know you're right

Chapter 16
The team was on their way back home and they were exhausted. Sasuke leaned against a tree trying to catch his breath. Sai walked over to him and gave him a even stranger than usual blank look. Which was remarkable because the artist was the walking definition of strange. Sasuke took a swig of water and gave a look of annoyance to the artist. "Do you need something?" he asked his team leader.
Sai looked at him with a blank look and sat down. "You know dickless is in love with harpy, right?" he asked Sasuke with a fake smile. He waited to see what Sasuke's reaction would be.
Sasuke rolled his eyes. How did he get so lucky he wondered. "Uh, Sai? In case you've forgotten, Naruto's girlfriend is on this team too," he hissed at the ROOT member. He glanced over where Hinata and Ino were talking.
Sai didn't take the hint. "So, are you worried?" he asked with his normal spaced out look.
"*Sigh* About what Sai?" he asked in an exasperated voice.
Sai glanced over at the girls then whispered, quietly this time, "That something will happen between hag and dickless."
Sasuke felt his patience wearing thin with the ink user. "No. We got married the day before we left, baka," he yelled at the emotionless jounin.
Hinata's head jerked over towards the two male members of the team. "Nani?" she asked Sasuke. She looked at Ino, who was grinning. "You knew?" she asked the blond medic, who nodded. She felt a little hurt that Sakura didn't tell her.
Sasuke could tell what the heiress was thinking and sighed. "Ino only knows because Tsunade grabbed her to be a witness. We got married at the hospital. I'm sure Sakura would of told you if she would of seen you before we left," he said smiling at his best friend's girlfriend.
Hinata blushed, "Oh, of course you're right." She looked away feeling silly. She wondered how Naruto was taking the news.
****
"You are not serious?!" Naruto yelled at Tsunade.
Tsunade glared at the blond jounin. "I'm as serious as a heart attack. I married them myself,"
she told him again.
Naruto flopped down into the chair in front of the Godaime's desk. "I don't know why she would marry that teme after all the crap he put her through," he pouted, folding his arms across his chest.
Tsunade counted to ten in her mind. She leveled her honey colored gaze at Naruto. "Don't start any trouble. She's happy. Leave it at that. Anyway, when can I expect Hinata and you to get married?" she asked him.
"Tsch, the twelfth of never. She's not ready, she says. Do you know what Sakura is having?" he asked his eyes brightening.
"Yes, but she doesn't want anyone to know. So I can't tell you. Now, shoo! I have work to do. Go train or something," she said with a flip of her wrist.
****
Naruto wandered around the village aimlessly. He didn't know where he was heading. He didn't feel like training, finally he settled on a bench near the academy. He watched the villagers walk past, getting an occasional dirty look thrown his way. Mostly those came from the older villagers who still didn't trust the Kyuubi inside him. Those looks always made him feel ten years old again. He tilted his face up towards the sun and closed his eyes.
"Oi stranger!"
Naruto opened his eyes and saw Sakura, who was standing behind the bench leaning over him. "What's up Sakura-chan?" he asked the pinkette, looking up at her.
Sakura walked around the bench and sat next to her best friend. "So tell me, why the long face?" she asked him, playfully nudging his shoulder.
Naruto sighed and closed his eyes again. He didn't want to talk about it with her. "What are you having? Boy or girl?" he asked changing the subject.
Sakura's face lit up and she giggled. "I don't know yet. Don't tell anyone, but I want a boy,"
she told him smiling and laying her head on his shoulder.
"Who would I tell?" he asked her in a flat voice. He wished he didn't feel so strongly about Sakura. He really wished she wouldn't lay her head on his shoulder. He moved around a little hoping she would get the hint and move her head. He didn't want to be rude and just shove her off of him. Nor did he want to come out and tell her to move either. He sighed again and leaned forward. That way she had no choice but to move her head.
Sakura looked at him and cocked her head to the side. "Are you mad at me Naruto?" she
asked him. Now she was confused. She knew he wasn't happy about her getting married to Sasuke but damn he'd never treated her like she was a stranger. It hurt her feelings and she could feel the sting of the tears as they welled up in her eyes. She bit her lip and tried to swallow back the lump that was rising in her throat. It was no use, the tears spilled over anyway and she got up and walked away before getting her answer.
He watched her walk away and leaned his head back and closed his eyes again. He knew she was crying and he couldn't force himself to get up and follow her. He felt like a jerk. He wished Hinata was home so he could hold her tightly and not let go. His self imposed exile from Sakura was breaking his heart. Little did he know it was also breaking her heart as well.
****
Sasuke jerked awake and looked around gasping for air. He'd give anything to stop the nightmares. He looked around the campsite and noticed Hinata was missing. She was supposed to be on guard duty. He got up and walked toward the edge of the clearing. Bringing up the Sharingan, he found her sitting on a log near the campsite. Of course she did have the Byakugan, so technically she didn't have to be within sight. But he had a feeling something was bothering her. She jumped when he walked up to the log. He sat down next to her. "What's up?" he asked.
"Gomen ne, Sasuke-kun. I didn't mean to wake you up," she looked away from him.
"You didn't. What's wrong? You look like you have the weight of the world on your back and you don't even know why," he said grinning because he knew she couldn't resist naming the source of the quote.
She glanced up at him and mumbled, "Nine Inch Nails."
Sasuke chuckled and looked over at her. "Very good. Now tell me which song." He nudged her shoulder.
Hinata looked at him and rolled her eyes. "You know what song it is," she sighed and rolled her eyes again. How was she supposed to tell him that she was afraid something might happen between Naruto and Sakura? She sighed again then activated her Byakugan to scan the area for any possible trouble.
"Of course I know. That would make me pretty silly if I didn't know," he said in a teasing tone.
She giggled despite her mood. "Down In It. Now do I like, get a prize or something?" she asked him with her best blank Sai look.
"Yeah, you get to go to lunch with our emotionless leader and explain flirting to him...No wait, I already did that. You have to explain something else to him," he said trying not to laugh and wake up the others.
Hinata laughed behind her hand. "You are not serious."
Sasuke snorted, "Hinata, I could not be any more serious."
Her eyes widened in mock surprise. "The boy does indeed have issues," she said laughing again, "But I'm not telling you anything you don't already know."
He looked over at her again. "So...Do you want to tell me what's bothering you?" he asked her nudging her shoulder.
Hinata sighed, she figured she might as well tell him. "I don't trust Naruto around Sakura," she said looking straight ahead. She glanced over after a minute passed and he didn't respond.
Sasuke tried to ignore the the sting of Hinata's words. He figured she must know something from the past that he didn't know anything about. "Do you trust Sakura?" he asked the heiress. He locked eyes with Hinata. He gave her credit, she held his gaze.
She chose her words carefully; she didn't want to cause trouble. "It happened once before," she said with tears in her eyes. She turned away from him.
Sasuke put his hand on her shoulder and she turned to look at him once more. "Hinata, I'm sorry. I didn't know that. I promise you nothing will happen. Sakura wouldn't risk your friendship again," he said in a low voice. He couldn't imagine her doing that to him, especially since she was pregnant. Not to mention married. He sighed, he would of felt better had he not asked.
Hinata on the other hand was relieved to hear Sasuke's words. She looked over at him and smiled. "You're right, she wouldn't do that to you either. She loves you too much and she's so happy about the baby," she told him.
He grinned, "Yeah."
Hinata looked over at him, he looked exhausted. "Sasuke-kun, when is the last time you slept through the night?" she asked him with a look of concern on her face.
He shrugged, he really didn't know. "I guess it's been awhile. Why do you ask?" he asked her, holding her gaze.
"You look really tired. Nightmares?"
"Yeah. I always have them except when Sakura takes pity on me and puts me out for a few hours."
Hinata's heart went out to the last Uchiha, although technically, he wasn't the last anymore.
"I could put you out for a couple hours if you want," she offered, hoping she didn't offend him.
He chuckled and stood up to stretch. "I guess that would be okay. I am really freaking tired. Kami, you'd think there was a statute of limitations on nightmares," he said trying to stifle a yawn.
"What are the dreams about?" The question slipped out and she mentally kicked herself. "Gomen, it's none of my business," she said.
"No, it's okay. Since I came home the dreams have been about The Valley and Naruto." He glanced over when he heard her gasp lightly.
"Naruto has those same dreams," she said, her eyes wide with shock. "Maybe the two of you should talk about them. It might help," she offered.
Sasuke considered her advice, what could it hurt? "Yeah, that sounds like a good idea."
****
Sakura was at her desk trying to read a medical textbook. Her mind kept drifting off. After she read the same paragraph seven times she closed the book in defeat and got up. It was after 3pm, so she decided to call it a day. On her way out she poked her head in Shizune's office to tell her she was leaving. The older medic's office was empty, so she wrote her a quick note and left. She glanced at the patient board to see if any of her friends had been brought in within the last couple of hours. 'Thank Kami,' she thought. There hadn't been any new admissions. She squinted as she stepped out into the bright afternoon sun. It seemed odd leaving in the middle of the afternoon, but she'd sworn to both Tsunade and Sasuke that she wouldn't work over eight hours a day. Her stomach rumbled and let her know she hadn't eaten anything since breakfast at 5:30. She made her way to Ichiraku.
****
Naruto sat at the counter at the ramen shop and sighed at his miso ramen. For once in his life he had no appetite. He forced himself to eat and then she walked in. His throat felt like it was closing. He'd done such a good job of avoiding her for the past five days. He swallowed his ramen down past the lump in his throat. She sat four stools away from him. He glanced at her. She looked tired, like she hadn't been sleeping very well. He sighed and tried to finish his ramen.
Of all the places Naruto could of been at 3:30 in the afternoon, he had to be at Ichiraku. Sakura sat as far away from him as she could; she wasn't stupid, she knew he was avoiding her. She told Ayame to surprise her and make it to go. She didn't want to sit there and be openly ignored. She could feel him sneaking glances at her. Ayame came back down the counter and set a large bag in front of her. She stared at it dumbly and then looked up at Ayame. "Nani? I didn't order all of this," she began.
Ayame smiled at the pink haired kunoichi. "It's on the house. You're eating for two remember?"
Sakura looked into the bag. "But there's enough here for ten people. I can't just take this. Let me pay for it," she tried to insist.
Ayame simply shook her head, "Iie. It's yours now." The shop owner's daughter walked away chuckling.
Sakura sighed in defeat and picked up the bag. As she turned to leave she caught Naruto's gaze, the last time she'd seen that look in his eyes was at his birthday party. It was a mixture of confusion, sorrow and pain. She didn't know it but it was the exact same look she had in her eyes. She looked away first and started the short walk to her empty apartment.
Naruto watched her walk away from the ramen shop. He wanted to follow her, hug her and tell her he wasn't mad, but his feet refused to move. He knew the minute he touched her, he would fall back into loving her. He didn't know how long he stood outside Ichiraku. Finally he turned and started in the direction of his own apartment.

The team stopped again to make camp for the last time. Sai looked at his exhausted team and sighed, the mission had taken five days longer than expected. He narrowed his eyes at Sasuke, the fire user looked like he was going to drop over from fatigue. His eyebrows raised as Ino walked over to Sasuke and whispered something in his ear that made him laugh. "Hn," he muttered to himself. Ino never whispered in his ear. In fact the other members of his team didn't really talk to him all that much. He wondered why.
Sasuke sat down and leaned back against the tree trunk. He thought about Sakura and closed his eyes.
Sai sat on a low hanging branch on the opposite side of the campsite. He took first watch. He let his eyes sweep over his team and noticed Ino was missing. Thinking she was just, well doing whatever, he jumped down and landed silently on the ground. He sat on the ground with his back up against a large stump. He pulled his sketchpad out of his backpack and started to sketch. After a few minutes he studied the sketch and noticed it looked a lot like Ino, only naked.
"Wow, you really put a lot of thought into that, huh?" Ino giggled peeking over his shoulder.
"Not really. I don't even look when I'm sketching," he said with a fake smile.
Ino sat down across from the artist. "Really? That's cool. Show me," she asked, her light blue eyes full of interest.
Sai shrugged and flipped to a fresh page. He locked eyes with her as his hand started to sketch. He held her gaze for a few more minutes and then held the pad up.
Ino's mouth dropped open. "Pervert," she said laughing so hard she snorted.
Sai looked down at the drawing; this time he'd drawn Hinata naked. He shrugged again started to draw again.
Ino watched the ROOT member with his head down just drawing away. She wondered what he was drawing. Every few minutes, he'd look up at her and then go back to his drawing. Just when she was about to thump him on the side of his head, he held the pad up. It was a drawing of her. She was standing on a cliff, the wind blowing her loose blond hair back. He'd drawn her with a mischievous look in her eye, her lips kissing a kunai knife. "Why am I kissing a knife?" she asked him.
Sai looked up at her and raised his eyebrows slightly. "Because you do it all the time, especially when you want to make sure you hit your target," he said flipping the page. "An idiosyncrasy of yours I've noticed. That's all." He started to draw again.
Ino just stared at Sai in disbelief. Did he really just tell her he watches her? "Can I have that drawing?" she asked him when he looked up again.
Sai just looked at her and shook his head, "Iie." He went back to drawing.
"*Tsch* Why not?" she asked him.
"Because..."
She glared at the ink user. "Because why?"
Sai looked up again and sighed. "I never give my sketches to anyone," he said shrugging.
Ino had to bite her lip so she didn't scream at the emotionless jerk. "That's just fucking stupid Sai," she hissed.
"And that is not proper language for a lady," he said in his normal flat tone.
"It still doesn't make it any less stupid."
Sai looked up at the blond and smiled he normal fake smile. "When we get home I'll draw it again and color it. Would that make you happy?"
Ino felt her anger dissolve. "You would do that for me? That's so sweet," she said. She shivered and moved over next to Sai. She looked down at the pad. This time he was drawing a very pregnant Sakura standing in a cherry orchard, the blossoms raining down on her.
"I'm doing this one for traitor. What do you think?" he asked the blond kunoichi, who had snuggled up very close to him.
Ino looked up at Sai, "I think you shouldn't call him that anymore."
"Why?" he asked without looking up.
Ino looked at the artist. "Because, it's not nice," she said with irritation in her voice.
Sai looked up at the blond. "Hn."
Ino sighed and shivered again. She thought about getting up to get her sweatshirt.
"If you're cold, you can sit here," he said patting the ground between his legs. "I can still work around you."
Ino smiled at him. "Okay," she said as she climbed over his leg. She leaned back against the artist and watched him add a few details to the drawing of Sakura. Her eyelids felt heavy and soon she drifted off to sleep.
Sasuke woke up for final watch and looked around. The only member of his team he could see was Hinata, who was sound asleep in her sleeping bag. He could sense Sai's and Ino's chakra near by. He walked over to the other side of the campsite and found Sai sitting against a stump drawing. Ino was snuggled between his legs sound asleep. "Sai, I'll take over now. You can, uh try to get some sleep," he said with a smirk.
Sai shrugged and kept drawing.
Sasuke walked back to the other side and jumped up to a low branch to cover the final four hours. He thought about Sakura and wondered what she was doing. He hoped she'd be sleeping since it was around 4am, but knowing his wife's habits, she was probably just getting up for the day.
****
By the time she got home from the ramen shop she'd completely lost her appetite. She put the containers of ramen in the refrigerator and got in bed. She opened the white envelope that she'd found stuck to her door. She pulled out a CD and looked into the envelope. There was a small folded piece of paper in the bottom. She fished it out and unfolded the note. Tears sprang to her eyes. All it said was: You know you're right, in Naruto's handwriting. Pulling herself off of the bed, she made her way over to the stereo. She hit the power button and put the disc in the tray. She laid back down in the bed and pressed play on the remote. She sobbed as she listened to the first song. "It's so warm and calm inside/I no longer have to hide/There's talk about someone else/Steaming, soon begins to melt/Nothin' really bothers her/She just wants to love herself/I will move away from here
You won't be afraid of fear/No thought was put into this/I always knew it'd come to this/Things have never been so swell/
And I have never failed to fail." Feeling as though her heart was shattering, she curled up into a fetal position.
****
She didn't go to work for three days. She couldn't find the energy to go face everyone. He inner self was screaming at her to get up and eat something. She ignored the knocking on her front door. She'd never felt so alone and empty inside. She walked through her apartment like a zombie. She stopped in the kitchen and stared into the 'fridge. Nothing sounded good, but she knew she had to eat for the baby. She picked a container of ramen out of the refrigerator and put it in the microwave for a couple minutes. The smell brought tears to her eyes. Since she was twelve years old she'd linked the smell of ramen with Naruto. Her stomach growled and she felt the baby move. She sank to her knees on the kitchen floor in tears. And that's how Sasuke found her when he finally got home five hours later.
He unlocked the door to the apartment and felt the hair on the back of his neck stand up. He could sense something was off. "Sakura?" he called out questioningly. He heard a strangled sob from the kitchen and headed that way. What he saw almost took his breath away; she was curled up on the floor sobbing. She had dark circles under her swollen, red rimmed eyes. He pulled her off of the floor and into his arms. "Shh...It's okay," he whispered to her, stroking her hair. "Tell me what's wrong."
"N-naruto doesn't want to be my friend anymore," she sobbed into his chest.
Sasuke sat her in a chair at the kitchen table and brushed her hair out of her face. "When is the last time you ate?" he asked her as he assembled the ingredients to make sandwiches.
She laid her head on the table. "I don't know," she said closing her eyes. Her stomach growled and she wrapped her arms around her midsection.
He set the sandwich in front of her and pulled the other chair next to hers. "Come on Sakura-chan, you have to eat. Otherwise you'll end up hurting the baby," he reminded her. He watched as she sat up and picked up the sandwich and took a bite. He watched as she finished her sandwich and looked over at his. He chuckled and pushed the plate over to her and got up to make a couple more. If he was guessing correctly, and he was, she hadn't eaten much of anything in the last few days. He set the sandwiches next to her and kissed the top of her head. "I'm going to take a shower."
Sakura nodded at him and started on the next sandwich. She felt the baby move around and tried to smile.
****
Hinata let herself into Naruto's apartment. After all he'd given her a key for a reason, right? She passed the kitchen area and poked her head in the bedroom. She could sense him nearby, so she went out the window and up to the roof. She found him laying in the hammock he kept up there. She leaned over him and smiled. "Hey there good looking," she said looking down into his blue eyes.
He pulled her down into the hammock with him. "Kami, I missed you," he said against her neck. He trailed kisses down her neck to her collarbone.
Hinata gasped and shivered. "I missed you too," she sighed. "How is Sakura-chan doing?" She asked him, running her fingers through his blond hair and kissing his bare chest.
He sighed and closed his eyes. "I don't know. I tried to stay out of her way. I figure now that's she married, she doesn't need me pestering her anymore. After all, everyone keeps telling me to stay out of her life, right?" His voice cracked with emotion and he could feel the burn of tears under his eyelids. He felt Hinata climb out of the hammock. He opened his eyes and looked over at his now angry girlfriend.
"Naruto-kun! How could you? She's your best friend! Don't you think this is breaking her heart? How would you feel if she suddenly stopped speaking to you?" Hinata took a deep breath and tried to reign in her anger.
He sat up and wiped his eyes. "Oh fuck," he muttered. "I always do this. I always fuck things up worse. I need to talk to her," he said standing up. He looked over at Hinata and pulled her into his arms. He caught her mouth in a kiss. "Maybe later. You, inside," he growled against her mouth. "Do you know how incredibly sexy you are when you're all pissed off?" he breathed in her ear.
She felt her grasp on control loosening. She felt her back touch the access door to the roof. She slid her arms around his neck and ran her fingers through his hair as he nipped at her neck. Her whole body ached for his touch, so she arched up to him. She gasped as he lifted her up. Moaning as her body slid along his, she ground her aching core against him. "N-naruto-kun...please," she panted into his ear making him shiver. "I...love...you."
Naruto kept sprinkling kisses along her collarbone as he carried her down to his apartment. There were a few moments he didn't think he was going to make it inside. They barely did. He pushed open the bedroom door with his foot and set Hinata down on the bed. He climbed on top of her and claimed her mouth in a kiss. She moaned against his mouth and he slid his tongue past her lips. His hand pulled the zipper of her hoodie down. She didn't have her usual shirt on underneath her jacket, just a black bra. He bit at her neck. "Mmm...Naughty," he panted as he ran his hand over her bare midsection letting his fingers dip under the waistband of her shorts.
She arched up to his touch and gasped when his fingers brushed her throbbing sex. "Nnngh...Naruto-kunnn...please," she said breathlessly as his finger brushed her swollen pleasure nub. She felt her shorts slide off of her body and she arched up to him again. She felt something under her elbow and when she moved her arm the stereo turned on. She barely noticed the music as he slid two fingers into her silky wetness. She bucked against his hand. She bit at his shoulder and moaned.
We already know how it ends tonight
You run in the dark through a firefight
I would explode just to save your life
I would explode
He brushed his lips down her throat and nipped at her nipples through the lace of her bra. He nipped his way down to her navel and ran his tongue across her belly button, smiling as she shivered and moaned his name. He could feel her walls fluttering against his fingers and groaned. He dipped his head lower and ran his tongue across her clit and she bucked up and screamed what was supposed to be his name.
Let me light up the sky
Light it up for you
Let me tell you why
I would die for you
Let me light up the sky
She panted and bucked as he nipped at her bud. She could feel the fire spreading through her body. "*Gasp*Nnnghhh...gods... Naru...kun...*pant*uuunnnh...please...aahh...gods," she panted out as her orgasm hit her.
Naruto grinned and gave her clit on last nip then licked his way back up her body stopping to unhook her bra. He threw the bra to the floor and ran his tongue over her nipple. She gasped as he nipped at her. He pulled his sweats off and teased her with the tip of his manhood. She arched to him and moaned. He cupped her cheek and looked into her opal eyes. They were clouded over with desire. "I love you Hinata-chan. I'll always love you," he whispered to her.
And it's still so hard to be who you are
So you play this part, and the show goes on
That you come this far with a broken heart
Yeah, you come this far and you're broken...
Hinata reached up and touched his face. She looked deep into his blue eyes, "I've...always loved...you Naruto-kun...I always will," she said in a breathy voice.
He leaned down and kissed her. "I want you to be mine forever," he whispered into her ear making her gasp. He entered her slowly, wanting to remember the feeling. Her walls were clutching at his manhood making him moan. "Oh...gods...'Nata-chan... so...tight...*pant*," he panted as he started to increase the pace.
Let me light up the sky (Let me light up the sky)
Light it up for you (Light it up for you)
Let me make this mine (Let me make this mine)
I'll ignite for you, I'll ignite for you
She bucked up to meet his thrusts. She dug her nails into his back. "Unnngh...N-naruto-kunnn...harder...nnnggh," she cried as her second orgasm claimed her.
Her walls were twitching and spasming against his cock. He moaned and thrust into her harder. He looked down into her eyes. "Oh gods...Hinata...nnghh," he grunted as he came. He laid down next to her and kissed her neck. "I love you," he breathed against her neck.
She turned over to look at him. She cupped his cheek and brought her lips to his mouth. "I love you too," she said against his mouth.
He brushed his fingers through her long dark hair. "Hinata-chan?"
"Mmmm?"
"Will you marry me?"
She looked up into his serious blue eyes and kissed him again. She laid her head on his chest and smiled. She felt his fingers brushing through her hair.
Naruto didn't know what to make of her actions. He supposed she was sick of him asking, so he just kept running his fingers through her hair. He closed he eyes and tried not to feel rejected again.
Hinata felt her eyelids getting heavy. She looked up at Naruto again. "Yes," she said watching his lips curve into a smile.
