Chapter 11- aftershocks
Naruto awoke in a hospital bed. He tried to sit up, but a wave of pain washed over his body, and he fell back onto his bed. He looked slowly around, and saw Hinata, holding his hand in hers. The blonde fixed his gaza on her. Her eyes were red and puffy, and her dirt smeared face had twin streaks trailing down her face
"H-Hinata-chan...you've...been crying," he managed to croak out. Hinata gasped.
"N--Naruto! You're awake!" She put her other hand on his, then winced, pulling her hand away. Not, however, before he noticed that there were blisters all over it, as though she had dipped it in hot grease.
"H-Hinata! Your hand!" Hinata squeaked, and hid her hand under the bed.
"This? oh, it's nothing! nothing at--" she waved her good hand, smiling and giving a quite fake laugh.
"It was my fault, wasn't it. Mine and the kyuubi's." It wasn't a question, and Hinata looked away. Seeing this Naruto got a grip on her hand.
"Hinata, I don't like to see you hurt, or sad. I-I'm sorry. When that man used his genjutsu on me, and I saw you die...I-I just lost control! But...you saved me. You probably saved everyone. if you hadn't stepped up, we may all have died."
"Naruto," Hinata whispered, "but...you're so hurt!"
"Heh heh. This is no problem, it'll all heal up in no time! But I'll feel much better if I can see you smile,dattebayo!"
"You know Naruto," a voice suddenly spoke from behind them, "she hasn't left your side since you got here. She hasn't even slept."
"Kakashi-sensei!" he turned back to Hinata. "really? Hin--" he stopped, however, when he saw that her exhaustion had finally won, and she had fallen asleep, her head gently resting on his stomach.
"Hinata..." he spoke softly. He turned back to face Kakashi.
"What all happened? Most of it is a blur after Tobi killed everyone, and the kyuubi took complete control."
" The kyuubi's power came out stronger than I've ever seen it. You annihilated Tobi, then you were about to come after us. That was when Haku and Hinata worked together to put one of Jiraiya's seals on you."
"I-Is everyone all right?!" he asked looking scared.
"Haku is injured, but fine. Sakura, Ino, and I got a couple of scratches, but Sakura fixed them all up already. Hinata..."
"What's wrong?!" He looked down at Hianta again.
"Her entire arm, especially the hand, has been severely burned. The kyuubi's chakra was too much. Her arm may never be the same. Other than that, her body was fine.
"Hinata..." Naruto whispered.
"Naruto," Kakashi spoke, "you need a way to maintain control of the kyuubi. Your 5-tailed form....is too much for any ninja to handle, and the repurcussions... Who knows how much your life was shortened by the chakra's effect.
Kakashi-sensei..." Naruto glared out at the wall in front of him. "I'm never going to use that much of the kyuubi's chakra again. It hurt someone precious to me."
"Hm." Kakashi nodded. "Moving on,. Those people, as we already confirmed, were definately members of akatsuki. Jiraiya's intelligence confirmed that Tobi was a replacement for Sasori, and that, including him, there were 9 members. As of now, we have defeated 5. I believe that the akatsuki will be starting to get desperate, and they may attack the village."
"Well then, I'll do what I was going to do three years ago! If the akatsuki want me, I'll go to them. I have had it with the way they keep chasing after all the jinchuuriki, and look at us as just that. I'm gonna take them all out."
Kakashi smiled. "Well, that's great and all, but how do you plan to get permission for this? After all, you're still a genin!"
"Then, I'll become a jounin, like you. When we get back to the village, I'll enter the chunin exams,dattebayo!"
Kakashi closed his eyes, a smile evident on his face through the mask. "All right, I'll help you train to---" he stopped after looking up, though, when he saw that naruto had fallen into a peaceful sleep.
