Chapter 12: Return to Konoha
The next few days passes quite eventfully. Naruto was able to heal completely, and Hinata's hand recovered completely, except for 3 jagged cars across the back. Because of the attack, Haku felt it necessary to remain in the village, and the leaf ninja returned home. Naruto and Hinata went in to report after their guards.
"Mission successful, Tsunade-sama."
"Very well, then. Report back tomorrow for your next mis--" Tsunade began, until Naruto cut her off.
"Tsunade-san" he spoke quietly, "I want to be in the next chuunin exams."
She glared at him ,obviously annoyed at being cut off, "that won't be necessary. Kakashi-san says you showed skills surpassing that of a jounin against the akatsuki member Deidara. I have spoken with all of the elders, and despite some protest, they have agreed that you deserve the title of jounin." At this, she tossed him a vest.
"We will begin reviewing for jounin soon. Continue to train, and prepare for it,"
"Naruto's eyes had long since gone wide. "T-t-thank you, baa-ch--err, Hokage- sama!!"
"Humph, why the pleasantries all of a sudden? You finally learn manners?"
The blond rubbed the back of his head in embarrassment. "Learn what? well, I'm off. Thanks again, baa-chan!" and with that, he took off.

"Naruto, get up!"
A groggy Naruto sat up, raising a hand to rub the sleep from his eyes. 2 months had passed since the mission in the underwater village, and Naruto had spent his time training and spending time with Hinata.
"Crap! The jounin reviews are today! I'm gonna be late, dattebayo!"
He quickly jumped out of bed and threw some pants on, then put on his jacket and vest, grabbed his shuriken holster, and threw open his apartment door, nearly knocking Sai, who had apparently woken him up, into other side of the hall
"Whoa, Sai, when did you get here?" Naruto asked, reaching a hand down to help him up.
"Sakura asked me to come wake you up. Come on, the reviews begin in 10 minutes!!"
The blond gave a toothy grin. "Then I guess you'll be late, won't you!" he focused his chakra, and in a flash, he was gone.
Within seconds, he was at the building the reviews were being held, and soon, he caught sight of his girlfriend.
"Hinata-chaaaan!"She turned at the sound and gave a wide smile at seeing him. After giving her a quick hug and a peck on the cheek, they walked in together. Once inside, they were promptly ambushed by a widely smiling Rock Lee.
"Hinata-chan! How wonderful to see you here. Am I to gather that you are qualified to become a jounin as well? well, I wish you the best of luck." It was then he seemed to notice the angrily glaring Naruto. "Ah! Naruto! It is wonderful that you are here as well! I am sure that you will succeed as well!For your youthful attitu--"
He was cut short by an annoyed Naruto. "Oi, bushy-brows, It looks like it's about to start!"
"Right! We must hurry and go join everybody!"
The trio went to go join the rest of the group, And they stood in the front file. Behind them, Nara Shikamaru stifled a yawn.
"Man, how bothersome. Why do I need to become a jounin?" His muttering stopped when Maito Gai stepped up on the podium in front of them.
"Greetings, youthful chuunin! For those of you who don't already know me, my name is Maito Gai. You have been specially chosen from all the ninja in Konoha to be tested as to whether or not you are qualified to become Jounin. From this point on, your tests will resemble the chuunin exams. However, rather than being part of a team, jounin are expected to be able to work alone, as well as in a team. Taking this into consideration, you will work in groups of 2."
"As you are all at the peak of youth, I do not doubt that you will all survive the first part of these exams: a return to the forest of death! However, unlike last time, you will not be fighting amongst yourselves. There will be jounin who each have a single scroll. Your objective is to obtain one of these scrolls by any means necessary. That's all it is. May youth be with you. Wonderful will persevere, it will be with you always It is eternal!" Next to Naruto, Rock Lee was smiling raptfully, tears streaming down his cheeks.
"All right, Gai, that's enough!" spoke an irate Tsunade as she appeared in a poof of smoke. She turned to the chuunin. "You heard what he said. Report to the entrance to the forest in one hour. Go now!"

"So, you have all decided your teams, and have submitted them to me. You all know the drill, head to your respected doors, and wait for the exam to begin."
Hinata looked over at her partner "You ready?" she asked him
Naruto grinned. " Definitely. How about you?"
She nodded. "Ready." Naruto-kun, I won't disappoint you!
