Chapter 17
On with the story
The once quiet and empty stadium grew louder as people began to file in. People from all across the leaf village and VIP's from around the world moved into the stands in the huge battle arena. This would be the location of the final chunin exams. As the people chose their seats the various VIP's from foreign villages founds seats close to the Hokage, Tsunade, who sat with two anbu guards behind her. To her right side sat a young red headed man. He wore his formal white and blue Kazekage robes. This was Gaara of the Sand, the fifth Kazekage. Two guards stood behind him, a woman with a giant fan on her back and man with a mummy on his back.
To Tsunade's left sat a man with long blonde hair, wearing the green and white formal robes of the Chikage. This was of-course Naruto Kitsune, the first Chikage. Behind him was one guard, with seven brown tails swinging behind him. To Naruto's side sat Midnight and Sasuke. They all waited patiently for the exams to commence.
Tsunade eyed the arena and waited for the seats to fill up. After a short while the seats were completely filled and it was time to start the exams. She stood up and instantly everyone's attention was brought to her.
“Good afternoon, I welcome you all to the final exam of the chunin exams. We have narrowed the combatants down to only the strongest of genin, and today you will witness their strength. Will the genin please make their way to the center of the arena?” As she said this, a gate opened on a wall of the arena and the ten genin made their ways to the center of the arena. It was a barren rocky ground and left plenty of room for a fight.
Tsunade looked down at them for a moment before continuing her speech. “Today not only do you prove your strength to the world but you also represent your village. I wish you all good luck, let the exams begin.”
As she said this the arena was filled with applause. A man in a jounin uniform slowly walked over to the genin. He looked at the crowd then to the genin.
“The first match will be between Yin Kitsune, and Yang Kitsune. Will all other genin please make your was into the stands.” The genin nodded before walking up a set of stairs and into the stands, finding their seats reserved for them. Yin and Yang were the only one's left down in the arena. As the others exited, Yin and Yang stared at each other before jumping back, separating be a few yards. They then both got in their respective fighting stances.
Yin got into a low crouch with both her claws to the side while facing Yang. Yang stood up on his tippy toes and bent his left knee towards Yin while placing both palms out in front of him. They both looked at each other with a smile.
“So how are we going to decide this Yang?” Yin called out with a smirk. Yang thought for a second before bringing one of his tails to his mouth and biting the tip. Yin instantly knew what he was thinking.
“The blood circle,” She said while biting the tip of one of her tails. Both their tails began to bleed as they waited to begin. The exam prompter looked at them curiously before bringing up his arm and throwing it down.
“Fight”
As soon as he said this Yin and Yang began to run towards each other. They closed in just five feet away from each other before they began to run in circles. They dragged their bloody tails along the ground, leaving a trail of blood. Once they made a full circle, there was a five foot wide circle around them. They moved inside the circle and took their fighting stances; the circle gave them very little space to move. After a second they struck at each other.
Yin sent a claw towards Yang's head; he moved slightly to the side, dodging while sending a palm towards her chest. She blocked it with her other arm before spinning around and sending a kick towards his stomach which he barely dodged. They moved at lightning speed in that small circle, dodging and blocking each others strikes while throwing their own. Even though they were confined to that small space, few could keep up with their movements.
To any who were under at least jounin level, the two were just a blur. Yang could barely be seen at all since he was mostly dodging Yin's strikes, side stepping and ducking around the circle. The crowd watched in awe at the fight they could barely see. Tsunade watched in frustration, trying to keep up with all of their movements. After a few minutes they began to slow down until they came to a complete stop. They stood just inches away from each other in their fighting stances, neither one had a scratch on them, and they weren't even winded from the fight.
They stared at each other before they each gave a small nod. They then both fell out of their stances and took identical stances. They both planted their feet firmly on the ground and faced each others. They placed their palms in front of themselves, one over another. In their hands they began to form a small red ball that began to grow by the second. In the stands Naruto could see what they were about to do and turned to Tsunade.
“Hokage-sama, Yin and Yang are about to release a very powerful blast. The blast will be strong enough to destroy this entire arena and everyone in it. May I have permission to surround the two in a barrier to protect the people here?” Naruto said, calmly.
Tsunade looked at Naruto skeptically, doubting that those two children had that much power. She looked down at them to see the balls of energy growing and the ground start to shake around the two. Her eyes widened before she looked at Naruto with a nod. Naruto smiled before jumping up high into the air above the arena. He made a few one handed hand signs before thrusting his palm towards Yin and Yang. As he did a small circle of red light emitted from his hand and traveled down to the arena, steadily growing. When it reached the arena, it made a thirty foot barrier around the two, just a few feet from the crowd.
With Yin and Yang, the balls of energy had become the size of soccer balls in just a few seconds. The energy was now crackling with black electricity as the ground rumbled around them. They both stared at the balls in concentration before their eyes widened and they both thrust the balls at each other, making them collide.
The explosion that was created shook the entire arena and many blocks outside the arena. It erupted in a flurry of red crackling energy, crashing into the walls of Naruto's barrier and swirling inside of it. The barrier began to expand slightly before the explosion began to subside. Tsunade and the other shinobi around her looked at the explosion in awe, feeling the power of it even though it had been contained. After a few second the energy subsided and the area inside the field was filled with dust.
High in the sky, Naruto gave a slight nod before releasing the force field and dropping back down into the arena. He landed softly in front of his chair before sitting down calmly. Needless to say, he was given many stares before everyone's focus returned to the battefield.
The dust cleared slowly, but as it did two figures were revealed on the opposite sides of each other. Yin and Yang stood calmly away from each other, various gashes and cuts adorned their body but were slowly healing on their own. Separating them was a huge 20 feet wide crator in the ground. It was about ten feet deep. They looked at the crater before stomping on the ground. The earth began to rise inside the crator and level out the ground. The entire crowd looked at them, amazed that they had come out of that blast alive. Not only that but they looked perfectly fine besides a few scratches.
Yin and Yang stared at each other in thought, trying to figure out how to end the battle. They could go all out and a winner would be decided but the whole area for miles would be destroyed in the process. The crowd watched them in silence also waiting for the next step.
After a few second Yang suddenly ran towards Yin. She watched him blankly, ready for anything and also a little curious. Yang closed the distance between them in a few second. He got just inches away from Yin before slowing down, placing his hands on her chest, and giving her a soft kiss.
There were some gasps from the crowd and confusion showed in everyone's eyes. Yin was confused for a second before returning the kiss, figuring out what Yang was planning. They kissed for about two seconds before parting. Yang jumped back a few feet and planted his feet on the ground.
Confused whispers spread through the crowd as they parted; no one had any idea what was going on, or why the two just kissed each other.
“What the hell are they doing kissing during a battle, and aren't they related?” “Maybe it's some demon thing,” Said some people from the crowd.
As the confusion spread, the people questions were answered as Yang suddenly dropped to one knee. Down on the battle field, Yin and Yang were sweating profusely. Their bodies were shaking and it looked like they were struggling just to breath. Yin smiled at Yang, while breathing hard.
“It seems I'm going to win this one Yang, your body isn't strong enough to handle the poison as well as mine is.” She said as one of her tails went limp. By now all of Yang's tails were down and he was struggling just to stay conscious. As he felt his remaining leg go numb he gave Yin a small smile.
“You win.” He said before falling over face first and passing out. Instantly, Yin stood up perfectly fine, her limbs regaining movement. She then looked over to the prompter.
“During out kiss, we injected each other with a powerful poison. It numbs the entire body and knocks the carrier unconscious. He will not be waking up any time soon, I have won this match.” She said while staring at the prompter.
The prompter looked over to Yang for reassurance to see him completely passed out. He walked over to Yang and lifted his arm. When he let go Yang's arm fell limp. He nodded before raising his hand.
“The winner, Yin Kitsune,” There was no applause only confused and amazed faces. Of course inside Yin's mind she was being congratulated by everyone in the village, it was pretty loud. Yin gave a soft smile before walking over to Yang. She bent down in front of him and kissed one of his fuzzy ears. Instantly his body began to move. He slowly began to get up, while his hands cradled his head.
“Ow, what happened?” He said groggily. Yin just smiled at him.
“You lost.” He frowned a bit but smile when he heard the praises of his village, congratulating him for a good fight. Yin and Yang walked up to the stands together and sat next to Kenshi.
“Nice fight you two.” He said with a small smile.
“Thanks” They said at once.
“Jiyu Kihara, and Toph, report to the arena,” Said the prompter, calling down the next genin. Suddenly two figures appeared in the arena. One appeared in a swirl of leaves. He held two swords in his hand, the leaf village headband around his forehead. The other appeared in a whirl of sand. This one was female, with the sand headband across her forehead. She looked a lot younger than her opponent or anyone else. She looked to be about 7 years old; she was still just a kid. And she also had a weird style for a ninja. She wore tight blue jeans along her legs, with nothing on her feet. On her upper body she had only a small red, short sleeved t-shirt. It cut off at her belly, revealing her slightly tan skin; her breasts had yet to develop. On her belly was a red circular seal. It was very similar to Naruto's accept instead of a swirl in the middle there was a red kanji for “love.”
Around the girl's waist was a red sash that tied the giant gourd on her back to her. She had long red hair on top on her head that ran down her back. It was spiky but tame. The girl stood up with her arms crossed across her chest, staring at her opponent. The three siblings stared at the girl with interest, finally noting her features. There was something about this girl.
The prompter looked at the two before raising his arm and throwing it down while shouting “fight!”
The fight lasted about 20 seconds. As soon as the fight started, sand from the girl's guard poured out and fell to the ground. And a soon as the boy attacked the sand engulfed him and crushed him, splattering blood everywhere. The crowd looked on in horror as the girl silently walked off of the arena in victory. Yin looked at the girl in interest, a small smile crossing her lips.
The next two fights were between two Konoha genin. There was nothing too spectacular. One ended in a tie with both genin knocking each other out, and the other fight was won by a girl who faught along side a small dog. As the girl made her way back to the stands Kenshi's name was called.
“Kenshi Kitsune and Hina Hyuuga, come down to the arena.” As the prompter called out, Kenshi disappeared in a plume of flames and reappeared in the arena. As he appeared a girl jumped from the stands and landed a few yards away in a low crouch. She then looked over to Kenshi with narrowed eyes and got into her Hyuuga fighting stance. Kenshi noted her fighting stance and her eyes. He stood with his arms crossed staring at her blankly, after a moment he began to speak.
“Give up” He said bluntly. The girl just looked at him in confusion.
“What.”
“Give up, I have gaugedthe ability of this village's shinobi and I can tell you that you are no match for me. If you fight me you will die, so give up while you still can. There is no point in fighting a battle you can't win.” The girl just stared at him in disbelief before snorting.
“I am not the one who will die today demon. Do not underestimate me.” As she said this Kenshi emitted a deep growl, more accurately, he emitted a deep growl when he heard her call him a demon.
“So be it.” He said while baring his teeth, his five tails trashing about wildly. The prompter looked at the two before raising his hand. He suddenly dropped it and shouted out “Fight.”
As soon as he said those words, Kenshi disappeared, and a split second later he reappeared back at his same spot. Some hadn't even seen him move. As he reappeared he looked over to the girl who had yet to move. He gave her a short glance before closing his eyes and starting to walk towards the arena stairway. The prompter looked at him in confusion before looking over to the girl. She suddenly fell to the ground, her head rolling across the arena. There were many gasps as Kenshi headed towards the stands. The prompter looked at the girl in pity before raising his hand. “The winner, Kenshi Kitsune,”
Again then there was no applause. But of course inside Kenshi's head there were many congratulations. The prompter watched Kenshi leave the arena before looking up at the Hokage. Tsunade looked down at him before throwing down a small scroll; he caught it with ease before opening it. He took a moment to read it before closing it. He then looked up at the crowd.
“Congratulations on those who have made it this far, now we start the semi-finals. The first genin to fight will be Kenshi Kitsune and Kira Inuzuka.” After just sitting down Kenshi gave a huff of annoyance before teleporting down to the arena, his opponent soon followed.
Two figures jumped from the stands and landed heavily in the arena just a few yards away. One was a girl with very wild black hair. Her eyes were slightly silted and she had two red triangles going down her cheeks. Standing next to her was a small black dog. It had its teeth bared and looked ready for a fight. Kenshi stared from one to the other. He began to open his mouth but he was interrupted before he could get a word out.
“Don't waist your breath. We are not going to just give up, so get ready.” The girl said while getting in a low fighting stance. Kenshi stared at her for a second more before turning his attention to the dog. He then began to emit continues yips and growls.
“Can you not see your master's mistake? You must realize that you are no match for me. Convince your master to give up and you can live to fight another day.” Kenshi said through yips and growls. The dog returned his comment with his own barks.
“I will stick by my master no matter what. I will protect her with my life, and kill who ever threaten her.” The dog said with a growl. Kenshi looked at the dog with a frown. He held a strange look in his eyes as he looked down at the small puppy baring its teeth at him. He then looked over to the girl in anger, his teeth bore, emitting a deep growl.
“So be it.” As he said this the two tensed up and readied themselves for the battle. The prompter looked at the three before raising his hand. He then brought it down while shouting fight.
As soon as he called it out, the girl and her dog jumped back and backed themselves up against the wall. They stood in a low crouch while watching Kenshi carefully. Kenshi stared at them before disappearing. The two growled and searched frantically for him, preparing for an attack. As Kira searched the battlefield, her dog suddenly disappeared from her side while giving of a small and short yelp. She looked at the spot in panic before searching around frantically, fear welling up inside her.
“Musagi!” She screamed while running out into the middle of the field. Suddenly, Kenshi appeared a few feet in front of her, holding the dog in his arms. Its eyes were closed and its body was completely still. Part of its tongue was hanging from its mouth. She looked at the dog in horror. Kenshi stared down at the dog before looking over to her.
“I have injected your dog with a very powerful poison, it's limbs have already began to shut down, and now he has fallen unconscious. In fifteen seconds the poison will reach his heart and his heart will stop. If you want your dog to live, I suggest you give up as soon as possible.” Kenshi said emotionlessly. The girl looked from Kenshi to the dog and then back at Kenshi, unsure of what to do.
“Eight, seven…” Kenshi counted down.
“I give up, I give up, just please stop the poison.” Kira screamed in a panic. Kenshi gave a slight nod before bending down and kissing the dog on top of the head. Instantly the dog's eyes opened. As soon as its eyes opened the girl sprang foreword and snatched the dog from Kenshi's arms. She then dropped to her knees and began to cradle him in her arms. The dog looked up at her in confusion.
“What happened?” The dog barked.
“You were going to die; I had to give up to save your life. Now are you ok, a poison that powerful should leave your body numb for a while, is there any pain?” She whispered to the dog. Suddenly the dog jumped from her arms and faced her, still confused.
“Kira-Chan, I'm fine, what poison are you talking about?” The dog barked. Kira looked at the dog before looking up to Kenshi who was staring down at them.
“I never injected him with any poison; I simply cast a sleeping jutsu on him. I was bluffing.” He said before turning to the prompter. “Call it.” The prompter nodded before raising his hand.
“The winner, Kenshi Kitsune,” Kenshi nodded before beginning to walk towards the stands. The girl watched Kenshi walk away before whispering “Why? Why did you spare us?”
Kenshi stopped and looked back at her. “I didn't do it for you, I did it for him.” He said while looking back at the dog. “I didn't want to take an innocent life. He and his kind were forced into this life, forced to be your slaves off war. It is not his fault he is forced to fight and die for pointless causes, forced to fight senseless wars. Heis an innocent soul in all of this.” He then looked over to the girl with disgust. “That's more than I can say for you. It is your choice if you choose a life ofmurder and pain, but to bringinnocent souls into your fight…damnyou.” He growled while disappearing in a plume of flames.
The girl stared at the spot where Kenshi stood just a second ago before looking down at her dog. She stared at him blankly before picking him up and leaving the arena. In the stands Kenshi reappeared by Yin and Yang's side, and sat down next to Yin.
“You could have just killed the girl and spared the dog.” Yin said bluntly while staring foreword. Kenshi watched the two leave the arena before looking down in thought.
“Even though that dog and his kind have become slaves, over many generations they have grown a strong bond with the humans. Killing that girl would have brought suffering to the dog as well. I saw another solution, one a little more…peaceful.” Kenshi said in a whisper. Yin now held a serious expression on her face as she looked over to Kenshi.
“Kenshi you know what has happened when our kind has tried to make peace with the human. It has always ended in tragedy…for us.” She then looked around at the crowd. “The humans hate us, they have always hated us. They hate anyone or anything that is different from them and that has not changed. Through out our history there have been countless demons who have tried to make peace with the humans and it has always ended the same way, with their destruction, and the destruction of their families. Kyuubi is a prime example of that. She tried to live a peaceful life, separated from the world, from the humans and their constant fighting, and look what happened to her family.” As she said this Kenshi's mind flashed to the image of Kyuubi holding one of her dead kits.
“This has happened countless times, and it will happen again if we let it. No peace can be made with them, they will not allow it. It is in their nature to hate, to hurt, not just us but even their own kind. If they fight amongst themselves what makes you think we have a chance at peace.” Yin then looked to Kenshi with fear in her eyes. Kenshi had rarely seen her afraid of anything.
“For all of our sakes, please don't make the same mistakes as our ancestors.” She said while looking at Kenshi with desperation. Kenshi looked at her, hearing the fear in her voice, he then gave a small short nod.
“I won't.”
“Promise me.” Yin said in a whisper. Kenshi looked at her with determination in his eyes.
“I promise.”
Up near the Hokage, Naruto stared down at the two having been listening to their conversation. To his side Sasuke and Midnight looked over to him knowingly. Even though he could feel their eyes on him Naruto refused to look at them. He knew Yin's speech was for him as much as Kenshi. But he didn't know if he could make the same promise as Kenshi. He still believed he could make peace with the humans. He was once human himself so he knew how hard it would be for them to accept him and his family, but he also had affections for the humans and he feared what he would have to do if he ever realized what everyone in his family already knew, that there could be no peace with the humans. So he continued to try, in hopes that that day would never come.
Below him, the prompter called out the next combatants. “Yin Kitsune and Toph, report to the arena.” As he said this there was a plume of flames on one side of the field and a swirl of sand on the other. Yin stepped from the flames and looked over to her opponent. On the other side the small girl, Toph stepped from the flames. Toph stared at Yin with a blank expression, her arms crossed. Yin stared back, gauging her features before getting down to business.
“Girl, give up, you must know that you cannot defeat me.” Yin said with a hard expression. The girl looked at her with little reaction accept a small hint of annoyance in her eyes.
“My name is Toph, and I will not be giving up.” As she said this, the cork popped off of her guard and sand began to fall out. Yin looked at the sand and felt a strange presence. She then looked at the girl, she looked familiar but Yin just couldn't place where she had seen the girl. As she watched the girl and looked at the seal on her stomach, Yin suddenly activated her demon eyes, looking into the girl's soul. She widened her eyes at what she saw before looking back at the girl.
“Shukaku?” Yin whispered in confusion. The girl stared at Yin with narrowed eyes.
“How do you know that name?” As Yin looked at the cage inside the girl she nodded her understanding.
“You are the carrier of Shukaku, the raccoon demon. But I thought Gaara was his carrier.” Yin said while looking up to Gaara next to the Hokage. Gaara looked down at her with a small smile before nodding. Yin then looked back at the girl, unable to ignore the resemblance.
“You are Gaara's daughter.” Yin said with a smile. “Well that's interesting.” Toph looked at her with no reaction.
“So what, what does that have to do with anything?” Toph said with slight annoyance.
“You are carrying a demon, a demon that should be able to sense my power. Shukaku, you know what will happen if we fight, tell Toph to back down if you still wish to continue your existence, if she dies, you die.” Yin said; know speaking to Shukaku who she knew could hear her. Toph stared at Yin before suddenly grabbing her head with one hand.
“Are you sure, we can at least try.” Toph said to herself. As she said this she suddenly grabbed her head with her other hand. Up In the stands Gaara was grabbing his head as well. After a few seconds Toph nodded her head and relaxed. She then looked over to the prompter.
“Prompter I give up.” Toph said emotionlessly. The prompter nodded his head before holding up his head.
“The winner, Yin Kitsune,” As he said this, the arena began to fill with whispers but Yin didn't pay attention or care. She was walking not to the stands, but over to Toph. Toph watched her walk over but made no attempt to move. Once Yin made it over to her, she bent down close to her ear, Toph being a few inches shorter than Yin.
“I want to talk, meet me in my hotel room tonight; Shukaku will be able to find me.” Yin whispered before disappearing in a plume of flames. Toph gave a small nod before disappearing in a whirl of leaves.
Up in the stands Yin appeared in between Kenshi and Yang before sitting down. They both looked at her with a small knowing smile but said nothing. They then all focused on the prompter who had his hand up to silence the arena.
“Congratulations to the two who have made it this far, you have proved your strength and now you will fight your last battle of the chunin exams, it is time for the finals. Yin Kitsune, and Kenshi Kitsune, make your way to the arena,” instantly two flames erupted in the middle of the arena and out stepped Yin and Kenshi.
They stared at each other with a small smile. They both stood the same way, their arms crossed, Yin's four tails swaying softly, and Kenshi's five tails swaying softly. Yin looked at Kenshi thought. She knew there was no way she could be Kenshi, he was much stronger than him and Yang; he was on an entirely different level.
“So how do you want to do this Yin?” Kenshi said calmly, knowing he was much stronger than her. She stared at him for a moment before shrugging.
“I know when I am outmatched. There is no use fighting a battle you know you can't win, I give up.” Instantly there were murmurs of anger through out the arena. The crowd wanted to see them kill each other. The prompter looked at her for a second and then back at Kenshi before nodding his head.
“The winner, Kenshi Kitsune,” Yin looked him with a smile before disappearing. As she did Tsunade stood up and looked down at Kenshi.
“Congratulations, you demonstrated your power and have represented your village well; of course this won't guarantee your passage on to the rank of chunin. Your performance along with everyone else who has survived this exam will be judged and evaluated. You will be summoned to a private location to find out whether you have been promoted to chunin.” She said while not only looking at Kenshi but at Yin, Yang, and Toph. The girl and her dog would be evaluated as well but they left the arena. Tsunade then looked to the crowd.
“Thank you for coming to this event, you are now free to leave the stadium.” As she said this people began to get up and leave, talking with about what they saw today. Down next to Kenshi, Yin and Yang appeared at his side. They looked up at Naruto, Midnight, and Sasuke and shared a smile. Before they all disappeared Yin stole a glance at Toph who was looking down at the three from the stands. Now the foxes were all heading back to their hotel room. It was getting dark and the three siblings needed some rest. Once at the hotel room the fox siblings were given proper praise for their efforts earlier before making their way to bed. Tomorrow they would find out where they would become chunin or not. Becoming chunin was more than just a title; it would symbolize the human's acceptance of the foxes into their society. So as usual the foxes crawled into bed together until the next day. But there was one fox that was waiting for something else. Huddled between the warm fur of her family, Yin lay patiently, hoping to speak with a certain red head.
That's the end of this chapter, please review.
Author note
Hey everyone, I do believe I have made a new record for myself, updating only two days after my last update. Woot, well I'm finally done with the chunin exams, another Woot. So how did you like it, I'd love to hear all opinions. And if you noticed, I think this is longer than my other chapters, well your welcome. I'm really into this now. I'm trying to finish it, only I keep thinking of more stuff to add; obviously I've been thinking about this story a lot. Well tell me what you think about the story, I'll try to update as soon as I can. Though I have to admit, I'm really exhausted, I forgot how much time it takes to right these chapters. Hope you enjoy it, thanks for reading. Hm one more thing, I just noticed a mistake in my story. I've called Naruto's title a Chikage and a Tenkage. I have no idea why I have been doing that but I'm going to have to go back and fix it. He is the Chikage; I don't know where I got Tenkage from, weird, well I going to go fix it.
