Note: This is the new version for the prologue. I just changed the Wild weasels to Phantoms. No major changes. Thanks to Rei Ronin and The Moore's for pointing out the mistake. Sorry about my error in the disclaimer. (God, so many errors. What a shame.)

Prologue

USS Nimitz: Flight deck: September 19, 2004

The whir of a helicopter rotor could be heard as a V-22 Naval Osprey just landed at the flight deck of the USS Nimitz. As the Osprey opened its doors, three men and three women stepped out of it. All of them looked relatively young and each was holding hands with a respective boy or girl. They briskly walked towards the bridge while the women received appreciative catcalls and shouts. The women just glared at them and continued on their way, tightening their holds at their `boyfriends'.

USS Nimitz: Bridge: September 19, 2004

As the group entered the cavernous bridge, they were greeted by the sight of several people running about, holding pieces of papers filled with data as the OOD (Officer On Deck) barked several orders, ordering them to hurry. When the OOD saw them, he motioned them to follow him. After several minutes of walking deeper inside the Nimitz, they finally reached the captain's quarters. The OOD opened the door and made a brief salute towards the captain.

"Sir!" The OOD's voice was deep, carrying with it a tone of authority. "The pilots you requested are here." He said, pointing towards the direction of the pilots. The captain just nodded.

"Very good. You may leave now."

The OOD turned on his heels and left for the bridge. The captain's quarters were actually bigger than the normal quarters and it allowed them to move freely. The captain motioned for them to sit down.

"Please have a seat."

The pilots complied silently. The captain opened one of the file holders and took one labeled `CONFIDENTIAL' in bold letters. The captain opened it and sighed.

"My name is Captain Jonathan Fisher. And I am the captain of the USS Nimitz. You six, namely Ikari Shinji, Aida Kensuke, Suzuhara Toji, Horaki Hikari, Soryu Asuka Langley and Ikari Rei. The 6 of you will be placed in a squadron codenamed Mobius, and will be stationed here until further notice. Am I clear?"

"Crystal clear sir."

E-767 Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) codenamed "Sky eye": September 19, 2004

This aircraft, mainly built using the frame of the Boeing 767-200ER, is a highly advanced "eye in the sky". It has the APY-2 development of the APY-1 Sentry of previous models. These aircraft are so important that one could not gain a tactical advantage without them, so these aircraft are always in active duty to warn of an imminent threat.

The officer in charge of the radar was shocked when he saw ten blips on the radar. He quickly shouted the data to his compatriots.

"I just detected ten bogeys directly headed for Allenfort airbase and North point. By the size of the six blips, I can say that they're bombers. The other four blips are fighters. It looks like they're planning to wipe out the GHQ!"

The other electronics officers typed in the message and sent the data with a `FLASH' rating. They hoped that the message would reach the Carrier Battle Group in time…

USS Nimitz: Bridge: September 19, 2004

The OOD almost jumped when he received an incoming message with the FLASH transmission. As soon as the message came out, he ripped it off the machine and quickly scanned it. After scanning it he used a radio linked directly to the captains quarters.

"Captain! Sky eye had just confirmed that there are ten bogies on their way to attack Allenfort airbase. Requesting permission to launch and intercept!"

USS Nimitz: Captain's quarters: September 19, 2004

The captain only thought for a moment before giving his answer.

"Permission granted. Launch all available aircraft and splash all bogeys!"

He placed the radio back to its place and looked at the pilots.

"Scramble at once and stop those enemy targets from destroying North Point!" The captain said. All six of them saluted.

"Yes sir!"

USS Nimitz: Hangars: September 19, 2004

Shinji and the others quickly donned their flight suits as they boarded their F-4 Phantom IIs. Their aircraft carried AIM-7 Sparrows and AIM-9M Sidewinders, more than enough to destroy any opposition. As they moved their fighters towards the elevators, the chief mechanic hurriedly relayed a message to the "Air boss". The two lead Phantoms, namely Shinji's and Asuka's, were lifted first towards the flight deck. The other four followed as the two of them willed their aircraft towards the steam catapults.

"This is Mobius 1, requesting permission to take off." Said Shinji over the radio as he flipped some more switches.

"You have permission for take off." Came the reply from the "pri-fly" (Primary Flight Control)

Shinji and Asuka both engaged their afterburners as two pairs of twin General electric turbojets lit up. After a few seconds, Shinji and Asuka both felt a lurch as the afterburners and the steam catapults pushed their 62,000-pound machines into the air. The other four followed suit as Toji and Hikari came up first, then followed by Kensuke and Rei.

At last they were now headed for the last known location of the bogeys.
