Neon Genesis Evangelion Fan Fiction ❯ Acecombat: dawn of Eva ❯ Mission 01: Sitting Duck ( Chapter 1 )
Author's notes: Whoops! Sorry about the mistake about the Wild Weasel, the mavericks and the HARM. I'll try to fix that as soon as possible. Before all of you will point that this is a mistake, I will be using the Phantoms to atone for the mistake for the wild weasel. Special thanks to Rei Ronin and The Moore for pointing out that mistake.

Acecombat: Dawn of Eva
Mission 1: Sitting Duck
Operation Umbrella
Bomber Formation: Tu-95, call-sign: Gray 3: September 19, 2004
The six Tu-95 bears, each armed with dozens of conventional bombs, were traveling over the crater near the city. Their Kuznetzov NK-12MV Turboprops were pushing them to top speed of 575 mph as their escorts, two pairs of MiG-21 Fishbeds and F-5E Tiger IIs flying side by side.
"This is Gray 3, calling all units. AWACS has detected a group of bogeys headed our way. As soon as they get close, initiate a combat spread and let our escorts handle them." The Erusean pilot of the lead Bear said at length.
"That's a roge, Gray 3." Replied the other Tu-95s. The pilot just nodded to himself as he engaged his specially modified radar to look for enemy units. As soon as it was engaged he saw six blips.
"This is Gray 3 to all units. We have potential enemy fighters. I repeat, potential enemy fighters. Initiate evasive maneuvers as soon as they're near!"
"Roger that."
Their escorts banked right and turned towards the opposite direction away from the bombers to counter this new threat. The four fighters flew in a tight formation with their afterburners engaged.
Mobius Squadron: F-4 Phantom II, call-sign: Mobius 1: September 19, 2004
The six Mobius aircrafts were fling in a tight formation on afterburners as they raced over the clouds. The lead aircraft, Mobius 1, saw four blips on his radar.
"This is Mobius 1 to all units." Shinji's voice was clear through the radio. "I have detected four aircrafts inbound to our position. Mobius 2 to 6 , intercept and destroy all bandits. Is that clear?"
"Roger that." The other pilots replied in unison as they pushed their afterburners to full thrust. A few minutes later, they had visually sighted the bandits.
"Combat spread now!" screamed Shinji as he banked his fighter to the left. The other fighters either banked left or right to avoid "premature" contact with the enemy.
Polaris Squadron: F-5E Tiger II , call-sign: Foxtrot 1: September 19, 2004
The four Bear escorts had reached the location of Mobius squadron just in time to witness them initiating a combat spread. The lead fighter, Foxtrot 1, pursued the nearest fighter which was Mobius 6. Mobius 6 dived sharply just as Foxtrot 1 was about to let lose a missile.
"Damn! Whoever's flying that is pretty fast!"
The F-4 continued its dive until it abruptly went upward, once again escaping from Foxtrot 1's grasp. He began to seethe with rage when suddenly the words `missile alert' appeared on his HUD. He began to panic as he pulled off several maneuvers that he hoped would confuse the pursuing sidewinder. In a last desperate attempt to shake the missile, he fired off a couple of flares to confuse the missile's heat-seeking capability, but to no avail.
The missile struck the right wing of the Tiger II, completely ripping off the wing from the plane's fuselage. As the ejector seat of the Tiger II flew clear of the burning aircraft, the pilot could clearly see the enemy aircraft that downed his own. The aircraft had the numbers `118' stenciled at the right side and a black-and-white ribbon insignia.
Mobius 1: September 19, 2004
"That's a kill!" said Shinji as he banked to the right to intercept his next target, a Mikoyan-Gurevich-21 codenamed "fishbed". When he got closer, a red circle inside a red circle appeared on his HUD. A brief moment later, he pressed the red button over his joystick.
Shinji felt a slight rumble as one of the AIM-9M Sidewinder missiles disengaged from one of the Fighter's external wing pylons. The missile flew towards its target as the Hercules and Bermite Mk 36 Mod 71, 8 solid-propellant rocket motor pushed the sidewinder into supersonic speed. The pilot of the enemy MiG had little time to react as the missile struck the fuselage directly, causing the annular blast fragmentation warhead to explode and destroy the fighter, leaving nothing but a burning wreckage. Shinji relaxed a little as he saw his comrades down the two remaining Erusean fighters. Shinji was about to sigh in relief when the AWACS bird spoke up.
"Mobius squadron, this is Sky eye. Congratulations for downing the bandits, but we have a much bigger problem. The six Tango-Uniform nine fives are en route towards Allenfort airbase. You must defend the base! Bombers at vector one-two-zero, Mobius squadron, engage!"
The six Mobius aircrafts lit up their turbojets as they headed for the new area of operations.
Bomber Formation: Tu-95 call-sign: Gray 3: September 19, 2004
"This is Tango 3 to all units. I had just detected six bogeys inbound to our position. It looks like our escorts failed. Initiate combat spread!"
The six bulky bombers began to spread apart as Mobius squadron neared the AO.
"I've got a tally ho on the bogeys. There seems to be six of them in the group. Mobius 2-6, engage!"
The bombers had their AM-23 23mm cannons trained on the fighters. The tail gunners watched the fighters closely as they neared the bomber formation.
"All Mobius aircraft, arm your sparrows and proceed in level flight. As soon as the target is locked-on let `em have `em."
All Mobius aircraft formed on his wing. A few moments later, all aircraft fired one of their AIM 7 Sparrows, making a total of 6.
"Damn! Fox1s! Fox 1s! All bombers evade!
The 2 bombers at the end of the formation tried to evade the incoming missile, although they knew it was futile. The AIM-7 Sparrow was an all-weather, all-altitude missile that can attack from any direction. The missile also has Defensive Counter Countermeasure capabilities, which include Electronic protection from Electronic attacks. The pilots could do nothing when the missiles struck their engines, destroying the Kuznetzov turboprops and making them utterly useless.
"This is Gray 6! Rapid power loss in engines 3 and 4! Engines 1 and 2 can't take anymore stress!" He saw the 2 engines at the right wing of his bomber spewing flames and smoke. The pilot began to panic more. "My engines are now burning! We're going down!" The bomber continued to plummet towards the ocean. A few moments later, the bomber exploded, sending its wreckage towards the sea. A few moments later, his other compatriot, Gray 4, followed shortly after his fallen comrade.
"Splashed two bandits!" said Sky eye as Mobius squadron engaged their afterburners to engage the remaining bombers. The tail gunners fired their AM-23 23mm cannons at them, although they knew it was futile because they were still out of effective gun range. They hoped that they would score a lucky shot against the ISAF fighters.
Through skillful maneuvering, Mobius squadron came out unharmed. Shinji went after the nearest bomber and fired two of his sidewinders, destroying the Kuznetzov turboprops on the left. Because of its sheer wingspan, it clipped Gray 9's wing, making them both plummet towards the ocean. Shinji was about to order them to arm their sparrows but he saw that they were too close. He sighed.
"All Mobius aircraft arm sidewinders and engage remaining bombers!"
Bomber formation: Tu-95: call-sign: Gray 3: September 19, 2004
The lead bomber pilot began to seethe with rage as he saw his comrades fall victim to the murderous semi-active radar-guided missiles of the enemy fighters. He radioed Gray 5.
"Gray 5, this is Gray 3. Save your bombs for the airbase. Don't waste it on the city." Said Gray 3 coolly, his voice betraying no emotion he felt. Gray 5's reply was quick enough.
"Roger that, Gray 3. Continuing course to Allenfort AB."
Before they could say anything, they saw through their radar that the enmy bogeys were approaching.
"Tail gunners! Shoot down those pests!"
The tail gunners could only count on luck because they knew that they couldn't shoot them down because they still aren't inside effective gun range, but they tried anyway.
Shinji got a lock-on and fired two of his missiles at Gray 5 as the bomber tried to turn away from the fighter. The bomber took the full brunt of the attack as it crashed towards the city spewing flames.
Gray 3 didn't like what was happening. He knew that he had failed, but he refused to recognize it. `If only those idiots listened to me.' Thought Gray 3. `I told them not to underestimate the military capability of ISAF even though it was weak at this point.' Determination built up inside him as he opened his bomb bay doors.
"I may have lost this, but I will not lose everything! For Erusea!"
His Tu-95 Bear bomber began to drop bombs at the city. Numerous conventional bombs dropped out of the bomb bay doors while it continued to plummet towards the city. He failed to notice the 6 sidewinders trailing him. When he did notice, it was too late. The missiles directly struck the fuselage, the Annular Blast Fragmentation Warhead exploding upon impact as it ripped through the stored bombs, making them explode. The bomber continued to plummet towards the ruined city.
"Splash 2! All hostiles eliminated!" Exclaimed Sky eye as its own crew breathed a sigh of relief. The radio cackled with a message from Allenfort airbase.
"This Allenfort AB. We've got a visual on the downed enemy bombers. Whose kills were those? Make sure to thank them!"
"That's a roundup let's go on home!"
