Chapter 10

You Only Hurt The Ones You Love. Part 1.

Asuka looked up, and saw Rei's battered body. Her chest wasn't moving, and her weapon was gone. Asuka's only aid in this battle, and her newest friend, was gone. The person she thought she loved was gone, the people she cared for were gone, and the one person who loved her, was gone. For the first time in a long time, Asuka Langely Sohryu cried. Her tears ran freely, as she beat against the ground. Hopelessness was all she felt. "I..I cant win! I've lost...I've lost again...I've lost everything..." When Adam's soft voice came into her mind 'It's not over yet Sohryu.' She grunted in pain as she flipped over "Adam..I cant win..I cant beat him!" She looked at her sword, which was still in perfect condition, even after all that. It had begun to glow softly. "What the?"

Adam spoke softly, and soothingly 'I will use the very last of my abilities Asuka.' The glow intensified as he spoke 'If you win this battle, no, this war, this war against the darkness, everything shall be restored as it once was, and you will all have a second chance at life.' Asuka's eyes widened slightly 'We are all putting our faith in you Asuka.' the blade of the sword turned to pure white, and Adam's voice became weaker, 'Please, don't lose..' The pain her body began to lift "Where are you going?" 'Home.' And with that, the swords glow encompassed her.

She was suddenly in a world of white. Threads of greenish light surrounded her, and changed, forming armor decorated with holy symbols. This armor encompassed her, from the neck down. She felt her pain and fatigue gone, suddenly replaced by strength, and vigilance. She opened her eyes, which instead of dried, red, and tearful, were blue and filled with hope. "I feel it..." She clenched her right hand, and the sword appeared within her grasp. The world of white dissipated, and she was back within the Lilith's Chamber. Lilith was gone, and so was the body of Rei.

Asuka looked up higher.

Dark Falz looked down from his perch atop a Skyscraper. The ball of energy he was gathering suddenly dissipated. "The portal!" He sensed something immense far below him, and looked down. He could sense the emotions, hearing Asuka's thoughts, but in the voices of those he had slaughtered in the past in his head.

"I'll obliterate you."

"Kill you."

"I will crush you."

"Destroy every last thread of your existence."

"Your end has come."

And finally "I will take everything back." This unnerved him to a small degree. His only way out had been destroyed by an act of sheer will. He smiled slightly, as he felt his opponents power, and sensed her approach. "This will indeed prove to be most entertaining." He stood atop the building, as his minions gathered toward him, ready to defend their master.

Meanwhile, a certain scientist and a certain raven haired Major were making their way up a ridiculously large ladder.


"Ritsu!! How much longer is this gonna take!?" Ritsuko frowned "You asked me that five minutes ago, and I still have the answer I had five minutes ago. 'I don't know.' " Misato sighed, and kept climbing "My hands are starting to ache..." "Mine too, but the faster we climb, the faster we get out of this hell hole." Misato chuckled slightly "Y'know, I'm surprised we managed to get out of here alive...although I wish they had made it." Ritsuko sighed sorrowfully, but kept climbing "They didn't deserve that fate..."

Flashback

Maya and Kensuke were dressed for battle, Maya armed with a sawed off shotgun, and Kensuke loaded to the teeth with an M-16, and loads of clips. They blazed their way through hallways, Maya conserving ammo, whilst Kensuke saw it fit to obliterate every creature, no matter what the ammo expense. "Aida-san, you mustn't fire so much. You need to save ammunition." Kensuke snorted "Don't worry, I have a lot of clips. I can afford to right now." Maya sighed "Whatever Aida-san. Although, I will say, that this is indeed thrilling." She smiled with power as she blew off another demon's head.

Kensuke grinned "Alright Maya, lets get the hell out of here." He squeezed the trigger hard, and started jogging, mowing down the masses before him, while Maya skipped backwards, taking out demon after demon. 'Those combat exercises DID come in handy after all' she thought. As they made their way down an empty hallway, they passed the office of Ritsuko Akagi. "Sempai...maybe she's in there!" Kensuke shook his head "Probably not Maya. Just about everyone is gone...turned into those things. Although...I do hope Touji and Shinji are ok." A massive clank caused Maya to jump, while Kensuke drew his weapon, and fire a few rounds into the door. "WHAT THE HELL!? THEY HAVE GUNS NOW!?" was Misato Katsuragi's reply. "MISATO-SAN!?"
Major!?" Maya punched in a keycode, and opened the door, to reveal Misato and Ritsuko on the floor, covering their heads.

"SEMPAI!!" Ritsuko looked up "Maya!? Oh thank God!" She sprung to her feet, and hugged her fellow technician and scientist. Misato got up, looking at Kensuke's smoking barrel. "YOU IDIOT! YOU COULD HAVE KILLED US!" Kensuke shrunk back slightly "I'm sorry Misato. But I heard a noise, and I panicked!" Misato looked at the now extremely armed Kensuke. "You guys, fought your way here?" Kensuke nodded "Sure did! Never would have made it without Maya." Maya blushed slightly, while Ritsuko's eyes widened. "Maya? The mild mannered Maya that I know couldn't even shoot a gun!" Misato smiled softly, looking at Kensuke "A person can change a lot when their life is at stake. C'mon, lets get out of here. Ritsu knows where the emergency escape ladder is." Kensuke nodded "Well, the hallway outside is clear. And we're running into less and less monsters. It's a long shot. But we might be able to do it."

Maya nodded "I never thought I'd say this, but it appears luck is at our side. Hopefully, Shinji and the others managed to escape. I haven't seen Rei, nor Asuka either...I hope they weren't turned into one of those things." Misato looked to Maya "Have you seen Kaji anywhere?!" Maya shook her head, likewise did Kensuke. Misato sighed, and looked toward the door. "He's probably alive somewhere having a drink, or something. Anyways, lets get the hell out of here. You two lead, cuz' all I got is my 9mm." The two nodded, opened the door, and led the way. It was easy as pie.

Or so they thought.

They made it to the employee break room, which was only two rooms away from the ladder, when the doors slammed shut, locked, and the light began blinking on and off.. Bladed armed demons rose from the ground, and attacked. Gunfire erupted as Kensuke mowed one after the other down, but they just wouldn't stop coming. Ritsuko and Maya attempted to troubleshoot the door, while Misato took Maya's sawed off, and began unloading rounds. The onslaught continued, as new demons appeared, one with a bladed arm, and shield hand sat in the back, watching, and waiting.

As another monster fell, Ritsuko finally opened the lock, and they made a break for it.. As soon as it clicked, the demon made it's move, leaping from the other side of the room, bringing it down hard on Maya's shoulder. She squeaked suddenly, reaching out, as she felt her heart stop, and everything began to go cold. Ritsuko heard her and turned at the last moment, just in time to see the demon raise it's bladed it arm and go into mid-swing, right before the door slammed shut, and locked again. "Maya....Maya..MAYA!" tears formed in Ritsuko's eyes, as she pounded on the door, calling out her name "Maya! Maya, no!" Kensuke looked onward, as Misato consoled the weeping scientist. "Why? Why is all of this happening Misato?!"

Misato closed her eyes, and hugged her gently "I don't know Ritsu...I honestly don't." She pulled back, looking into her eyes "But we're going to make it out of here." Ritsuko sniffled "How can you be so sure? You saw those things! Their endless! They'll keep coming," she started to break down again "Their going to hunt us down and kill each and every one of us." Kensuke turned to them "That's not going to happen Ms. Akagi." Ritsuko looked up at him "Nobody else is going to die here. We're going to get out of here, we're going to find Shinji, and the others, and we're going to get as far away from here as possible. If we can make it out of this hell hole of a maze, we'll live! We'll survive!" Ritsuko smiled, but then her face, along with the Majors turned into a look of horror.

Kensuke followed their gaze, to see a large centaur like demon behind him Misato tried to scream. Tell him to run, to get away from it. But nothing came out. It was if her voice had been stolen away. All she could do was watch, as the demon used it's one arm, to grab Kensuke by the head, and retreat into the darkness. Misato drew her gun, and in blind rage, fired shots into his position, but as the gunfire went off, the light revealed that nothing was there. Ritsuko's tears returned "We're...we're really going to die here...aren't we?" Misato didn't nod, nor did she shake her head "If we are, we're gonna make it as hard as we can to catch us." She took Ritsuko's hands. "Lets go!" Ritsuko saw look of die hard determination on the Major's, and could do nothing except nod.

Misato started her whining up again "Aren't we there yet?" Ritsuko sighed, annoyed "No Misato." She opened the escape hatch that led to the outside. "We're not there yet." With a smile, she climbed out of the grate, and stood amongst the wreckage of what used to be Tokyo-3. "Wha...what is this!?" Misato climbed out "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED!?" Burning vehicles were strewn about. Buildings were halfway demolished, or on fire themselves. The streets of Tokyo-3 had been turned into a vicious nightmare of bodies, upheaval, and destruction. The sky was thick with black billowing clouds. Lightning crackling from above every once in a while. But what really caught the eye was the mass of demons that had gathered around it.

"Ritsuko...what is this?" "Madness....this is complete madness!" An explosion from behind rocked them to their feet, and when they turned, they saw Asuka, only, it wasn't the Asuka they knew. This Asuka was totally different. "Asuka!? Is that you?!" Misato exclaimed, only to be ignored. Asuka stepped forward, walking past them. She spoke delicately, but seriously "Get to safe ground. As fast as you can." She then kept marching, the sword in her hand glowing more intensely. Rituko looked to her left, Misato's apartment. "Misato! Lets go!" Misato watched her run off, but merely shrugged, and followed, not wanting to expand anymore brain power on figuring out what the hell happened to Asuka.

Asuka walked slowly, towards the masses. As she walked, she held her sword to the right, then quickly brought it across to the left, sending out a tremendous shockwave, cleaving, and obliterating many demons where they stood. Dark Falz grinned from atop his tower, standing at the very edge. "She has arisen to a new level. It makes me tingle with excitement!! I must see her power for myself!!" He laughed maniacally, as thunder struck behind him. The last bits and pieces of what resembled Shinji Ikari faded away, to be replaced by a metallic looking outer skin. His voice became like Olga Flow's, only he no longer spoke in terms of human understanding. His body shifted, changed, and mutated, as he jumped from the building. He became bigger, his legs coming together, joining, then splitting apart into four dragons heads. His stomach grew a large toothy maw, and his right arm joined with his sword, and his left matching it. they looked like giant claws when opened, but when closed, it looked as if it was a giant blade. Where his head was, was a disfigured looking...thing, and on his chest, jutted out the upper body of a human being. It's face was unintelligible, as it bore resemblance to nothing. As it crashed into the ground, a wave of blackness swept below him.

The ground changed into millions of different faces. Each one contorted in agony, screaming in silence. Everyone he had killed had been there. Kaji, Kensuke, Maya, Gendo, Fuyutski, Touji, Hikari. Everyone who had fallen to his minions, their face could be seen upon the ground. He nearly towered over Asuka, speaking in his own dark language. Asuka merely put two hands on her sword. "I'll take everything. Everything you've taken away." Falz read back to swing an arm "I'll take it all back!" She did a rising swing, catching Falz's blade, but his force was way too high, and send her flying to the right. She righted herself before colliding with anything, and launched her self forward, slashing into one of the dragonic legs. It roared, and so did the mouth upon it's stomach, as it tried to slither away. Asuka just kept slashing, not paying any notice to the right claw opening, and drawing in power.

It felt like a sudden impact upon her stomach, as an explosion ripped out of nowhere, and sent her flying backwards onto her back. She looked up in time to see him raise both arms into the air, and say something unintelligible. He fired two giant beams from his hands, that flew high, merged, then came back down, splitting into hundreds of different beams. All aimed at her position.

"Oh shit..." Was all she could say, as she managed to roll out of the way of the deadly rain. She caught sight of another dragon head, and headed for it, dodging devastating explosions, which sent some buildings crashing into the ground. Through the smoke, Asuka fought on, slashing whatever she could get at, determined to kill this entity. Falz opened his left claw, and fired a wave of cold air towards her, which she easily dodged. The upper body was not pleased at all. It's face frowned, and it began to flail about as if it were angry. The dragonic legs then dissipated, and what was left was the upper body of the monstrosity, connected to a ball of moving flesh, which hovered a few feet off the ground. His tactics were still the same, only he interchanged, sending ice, after fire.

But Asuka would not be denied. She dashed straight at him, her AT Field coming up, and blocking his attacks. Falz pointed both claws at her, and fired a concentrated heavy beam. It struck the ground, creating a devastating explosion. But Asuka was nowhere to be seen. He looked up, to see her falling towards him, bringing a slice to the top of his head, all the way down to the fleshy ball. The upper body screamed, as it the wound healed, but it fell over to the right.

From Misato's window, and a couple pairs of binoculars, all Misato and Ritsuko could do, was gape. "Beer?" "I'll have two." "Better make it five."

Asuka grinned slightly, her pride returning. "Ha! That's what you get when you take on the great Asuka Langley Sohryu! Now! Return everything back to the way it was!" The large mass quivered slightly, then all of the sudden shot up into the air, changing, and in blinding speed, mutated into one of the bladed demons, only it was the size of an Eva, and floated above the ground. Two cape like wings emerged from it's back, and it laughed spitingly, as it brought one of it's huge blades onto Asuka, who had just managed to bring up her AT field, but it sent her careening downwards, through all the metal plates that guarded the Geofront. and back into the ground which housed NERV. Through even more armor plating, and finally, to a crashing halt. Asuka's armor was torn, and mangled by the end of her trip, but she was still alive, but very dazed. She looked to her right, and saw something big, and bright red.

The demon roared triumphantly, cackling in it's dark voice, when a huge metal clank caused it to turn around, coming face to face with Unit 02. In it's hand, was the base of a prog knife, but the blade itself was longer, and had a more intense glow to it.


Misato was at a loss for words "How!? HOW DID SHE LAUNCH THE EVA!? AND WHAT IS THAT WEAPON!? Ritsuko was done trying to figure things out, as her brain refused reality, and accepted sweet, sweet drunken bliss. A stunned Misatio soon joined her.

Unit 02 sat there, studying it's opponent. Inside, the battery gauge blinked "Zero" but the Eva remained operational. Asuka gripped the controls tight, as she waited for her opponent to move. A small thought entered her head, as the staring contest began. "Where IS Shinji"

And deep within a world of blackness, the sound of a droplet of water falling into a puddle was heard, as Shinji Ikari lay still. His eyes had gone totally blank, and his pupils were dilated, but he was smiling serenely. He was mumbling something, but no words came from his mouth. If one were to read his lips, they could see a mantra.

"Kill them all. Kill them all."
