From Better To Worse To Better

****** The New House ******

Five of the new owners of the house where sitting at the table in the kitchen/dinning room area to there first dinner in there new home of take out raman noodles hot sweet and sour soup and deep fried tofu, the moving in had gone fairly well save for when Gwen tried to order them to take her luggage from the trunk of Misato's car and to her room and was soundly told by them to do it herself other then that there had been no problems with the move.

After the moving men had unloaded there trucks and left the rest of the day had been spent unpacking there belongings.

" That was some good eats. " Drake said as he let out a long and loud belch that earned him a few disgusted looks that he promptly ignored.

" Gwen, Drake you should get to bed soon for you will have to be up early in the morning and after you have finished with your tests, if there is still time I'm going to enroll you into the same high school as Asuka and Rei. " Misato said as she took a small drink from the beer she was nursing.

" What!, that sucks! " Drake said, he never did like school back home and was not to keen on going to a new school in Japan, he figured that he could get by with what education he had.

Gwen on the other hand seemed quite interested in at the prospect of a new school, if it met her standards that is.

Misato got up from the table and was taking her plate to the sink as she talked over her shoulder.

" Drake you are going to school like it or not, that's part of being an eva pilot, besides it will do you good to learn a few new things such as how to speak japanese after all if you should encounter someone say at a store how are you going to tell that person what you want?"

Drake muttered something under his breath as he watched Misato walk towards the sink, although he was not sure he could have sworn that Misato was carrying a gun of some kind for when she had been unpacking some of the boxes that where brought to there new house he though he saw the butt of a hand gun sticking out from under Misato's parsley open jacket and instead of trying to she was carrying a gun he found himself staring at her other butt, * Not bad for an old broad * Drake thought to himself as a smirk creeped up on his face.

Asuka saw the way Drake was looking at Misato as did Gwen and they both frowned at him.

" What the hell as you staring at you hentai baka? " Asuka said to Drake who gave her the evil eye, even though he did not know what hentai or baka meant he was sure it was it was nothing good and fired back at the glaring Asuka, " It sure as hell isn't you. " and found himself enjoying the look of outrage on her face as she stared daggers at him.

Misato smiled to herself for she was sure from what she had heard Drake say that he had been checking her out as Asuka and Drake began to exchange barbs with one another but before she could say a word her cell phone begain to ring, " Keep it down you two! " she shouted at them as she flipped open her cell phone to answer the call and found herself talking Ritsuko.

" Misato there's a slight problem with synchronizing equipment so the tests for Gwen and Drake will have to wait until it's fix, that should take the better part of a day. "

Misato nodded her head as she listened to what Ritsuko was saying as Asuka, Rei, Gwen and Drake where watching her talk on the phone and wondered who she was talking to.

" Ok Ris I'll tell them what's happening, in fact this is a good thing, I can take them and get them enrolled into the same school as Asuka and Rei so you'll give me a call when the equipment is fixed?, ok then thanks bye. " she said before she hung up the cell phone, turned around and found herself looking into three sets of questioning eyes, Rei was picking at what was left of her deep fried tofu, lost in her own thoughts.

" Drake, Gwen that was Dr.Akagi she says that the tests she wanted to put you though have been delayed due to some equipment failure so you two will be coming along with me when I drop Rei and Asuka off at your new school so I can enroll you in it. " Misato said but before any of them could say a word there came some low growling sounds from under Drake's chair, * Wark WWWAARRKK! * Drake looked down to see a strange critter that looked like it was getting ready to take a round out of left leg.

" WHAT THE FUCK! " Drake yelled as he jump up onto his chair as the critter lunged at the spot where his left leg had been only moments ago as his hands reached under his trench coat and pulled out two huge knives that he held in his hands as he looked down at the critter that was giving him a baleful look.

" DRAKE PUT THEM DOWN NOW! " Misato yelled at the top of her lungs as she slowly reached for her 9mm pistol and for a moment no one moved a muscle as Drake and PenPen stared each other down, PenPen had found himself an out of the way place to take a long nap as his two of his humans along with three new humans where moving things around in his new house and had only just woken up from his dreams of female penguins when his nose caught the sent of food and so he waddled into the room where the smell of food was coming from and for a moment he stood there as he watched as two of his humans where talking to the two new humans and found one of the new humans very disturbing, so much so that the feathers on the back of his neck stood on end as that human was saying some unkind things to one of his favorite humans and he decided to do something about it, namely to kick that human's ass.

Rei who was watching as PenPen lunged once again at Drake's leg causing Drake to jump up on the table for dear life started to giggle at the sight even though she did not know why but for some odd reason it felt right so she went with it as she continued to watch the show being played out before her.

" SOMEONE GET THIS THING AWAY FROM ME ! " Drake yelled as PenPen jumped up on to his chair as he backed away on the table top stepping on Asuka's plate of food as PenPen continued to growl at him

* WARRRK! WWWAARRKK! *

" PENPEN GO LAY DOWN YOU BAD BOY! " Misato shouted, causing PenPen to look at her then to Drake then back to her, before he let out a blood curdling * WARK! * before he jumped down from the chair and was skulking off to his resting place when he stopped at the entryway to the dinning room/kitchen and gave Drake a * Your so lucky I don't kick your ass, I'll be watching you! * look then left leaving a visibly shaken Drake standing there, his face as white as a sheet as Rei's giggles became laughter, Gwen and Asuka started to laugh as well at the sight of big, bad Drake who was figuratively treed by a penguin, Misato however was not amused in the lest as she gave Drake a deadly looked as her hand rested on the butt of her gun.

" DRAKE GIVE ME THOSE KNIVES NOW! " Misato said in a hard tone of voice as Drake slowly turned to face her with a look of fear, anger and confusion but when he saw her hand on the butt of her gun he dropped into a knife fighter's crouch as his eyes became narrow slits and a low growl came from his dry throat as Asuka's Gwen's and Rei's laughter came to an end when Misato's 9mm pistol cleared it's holster and went * CLICK-CLACK * as she jacked a round into the barrel.

" What the fuck was that thing! " Drake snarled as he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end as he continued to look Misato in the eyes unsure if she would blast him off the table as her hand gun was pointed somewhere between him and the ceiling.

" Give me the knives and we'll talk. " Misato said in a forceful voice as she continued to lock eyes with Drake and sent him a metal message that told Drake she was not fucking around and for a tense moment Drake kept staring at Misato as Gwen, Rei and Asuka where sitting on the edge of there chairs ready to dive for cover if things went south of heaven and Drake could not be sure if Misato would shoot to kill as he fought to rein in his growing fear and the urge to fight and kill if it came down to it but one thing he was sure of that Misato would shoot to wound and he doubted he would be able to stab her before she plugged him.

Slowly ever so slowly Drake stood up as he took a deep breath and threw the knives down into front of Misato who thumbed down the hammer on her 9mm and tucked it away back into it's holster and took a quick look at the knives and saw that they each had a seven inch long blades with a black steel handles with a thin piece of metal over the handles that where lined with small barbed studs telling Misato that the knives where designed for one purpose and one purpose only, to kill or cruelly maim another human being.

Misato looked up to Drake and saw the look of fear, rage and perhaps madness that had been there only a few moments ago was gone, replaced with a cold and empty look as he continued to stare at her, unsure as what to do next, " Drake sit down and I'll tell you about PenPen. " Misato said as she let out a deep breath an watched as Drake slowly walked over to his chair, leaving a trail of what was left of Asuka's dinner on the table top and sat down in his chair.

" PenPen is a penguin and they are harmless. " Misato said as she sat down on her chair, " Harmless my ass! ", Drake snarled as he balled up his hands into fists, " That thing tried to take a chunk out of my leg and why the hell do you have a penguin as a pet for? " he added as he tried to force himself to relax.

" I thought penguins only lived in cold places like the arctic? " Gwen said in a very up tight voice as she looked at Drake like he was some kind of freak as did Asuka, Rei was just looking at him with her trade mark dead pan look as she begain to reconsider what she knew about Drake, " They did Gwen but when second impact happened most of them died off and the few that where left where forced to adapt to a warmer climate, I found PenPen washed up on a beach and nursed him back to health and he's been with me ever since. " Misato said as Drake slowly stood up as his rage continued to burn, " Well keep that thing away from me or there be one less penguin in the world, animals don't like me and I don't like them! " Drake said as he turned to leave the dinning room/kitchen.

" Where are you going Drake? " Misato asked in a hard tone of voice for she was though putting up with this lunacy and she would be damned if she would let any harm come to PenPen.

Drake looked at her for a moment as he took a deep breath and slowly let it out, " I'm going to go and try to relax because I don't need this happy horse shit! " he said before he left and was making his way to the games room to try his hand at some of the arcade games hoping they would relax him, " You just stay away from PenPen and he'll stay away from you! " Misato called out after Drake who ignored her.

" Ok clean up your plates and go do what ever, be sure to get to bed at a decent time for you have to be up early tomorrow, Rei take a bath will you? " Misato said as she picked Drake's knives and tucked them into her belt, then picked up her can of beer and found it to be empty as Gwen Asuka and Rei took there plates from the table and when to clean them off and once they where gone Misato took out her cell phone and dialed it as she made her way up to the bar room for a fresh, cold can of much needed beer.

" Dr.Akagi speaking who is this? "

" Ris it's me Misato I just had a big problem with Drake and I don't know what to do about it. " Misato said as he heard some noises from the games room as well as some vile curses from Drake.

Misato told Ritsuko about what had happened and just about blew a gasket when she heard Ritsuko said that she had expected something like this to happen.

" What! and you never saw fit to tell me this!?! " Misato said into the cell phone as she made her way to the fridge in the bar room and fished out a can of cold beer.

" If you will listen to me I'll tell you why I never told you about it, one you did not ask me and two I never had the chance to tell you about Drake and there's something you need to know about Drake. " Ritsuko said into her phone as she watched Maya walk by her and gave her other lover a warm lusty smile that made the younger woman blush.

" What, that Drake is a complete head case? " Misato said as she cracked the can of beer open and took a hefty swig from it," Misato there's a reason he's like that. " Ritsuko said and told Misato what had happened juring Drake's medical exam and when she was done speaking Misato felt sick to her stomach as she felt a deep pity for Drake well up in her heart.

" Christ!, what the hell am I supposed to do about this shit?, why the hell are we even keep him around for if he's such a lose cannon? " Misato asked Ritsuko who told her that the commander was the one who decided to keep Drake on as an eva pilot and told her to do her best to keep Drake calm and that there was nothing that she could do about it.

" Shit!, thanks for filling me in on this crap Ris I'll keep you posted if any thing else happens. " Misato said before she hung up the cell phone, she then took an even bigger swing from her beer then her first one had been, " Gendo I hope your cock falls off for this shit! " Misato said in a highly acidic voice as she continued to drink her beer and wonder about what the hell she was going to do about Drake.

****** Gendo's Office ******

Gendo was sipping on his scotch on the rocks when he sneezed and then scratched his suddenly itchy manhood,after taking a moment to ponder what had just happened he returned to his drinking.

****** Nerv Mental Health Ward ******

Shinji squinted his eyes as he tried to read the book that Misato had left for him as he listened to his SDAT player, the music sounded like it was in slow motion due to the drugs in his system as well as screwing up his eye sight but still he tried to listen to it anyways as well as read the book, for this was a far cry from the state he had been in a few days ago, for reasons that he did not know the doctor had taken the restraints off of him and cut his medication by half.

Slowly Shinji yawned and as he was he got a look at his right wrist, the scar was fresh and ugly, * Just one more scar in my fucked up life * Shinji thought to himself as he stared that the scar for a few minutes as despair begain to slowly seep into his heart, the book falling from his fingers as he felt his eyes lids grow heavy with drug induced sleep and instead of fearing sleep as much as he did since he wound up in the nut ward he had a thin sliver of hope, for there was something that awaited him in the realm of sleep besides the usual nightmare that left him in a screaming fit as he became awake, it was the strange dream of a woman that looked like a cross between his mother and Misato in one body, surround by a pale, warm light that chased away the darkness in his tortured soul as she took him into her arms and held him close to her breast, she would then stroke his head and wispier something into his ears that he could not make out but the words reassured him none the less.

So with a hopeful smile Shinji let sleep lay claim to his mind as he pulled the warm blankets over his body and curled up on his best as the flame of hope that had so nearly lost to him begain to burn a little brighter.

****** Bathroom Of The New House ******

Rei turned off the taps of the huge bathtub and slowly lowered her nude body into the soothing heat of her bath water and begain to lather up a washcloth with a bar of bayberry soap and put it aside then reached for the bottle of shampoo.

After washing her hair she begain to wash her body he thought about Drake and shivered slightly, she knew that he was a crude loud mouth but she had never expected him to be a violent person as well but yet there was something in his eyes that made her wonder why he was the way he is as she dragged the washcloth over her left arm then she did her right arm as her mind drifted onto Shinji who she was very worried about when it clicked in her mind, both Shinji and Drake had troubled pasts but what she could not understand was why Drake was violent and Shinji was not as she washed her face and neck.

" Oh who are they and is not Shinji an eva pilot like us that also lives here? " Gwen asked as she looked Asuka over as her mind continued to absorb all of the info that Asuka was telling her.

Asuka looked at Gwen for a moment and there was a faint look of confusion and worry on her face that last for a few seconds before she continued to speak, " Shinji is an eva pilot like us but he's such a dweeb, he has no back bone but at lest he can cook...most of the time. " saying the first kind thing about Shinji in a looong time, " Touji and Kensuke are in the same class and me and him and he always hangs around them." she added but before Gwen could reply they heard something that sound like a muffled scream from near by.

" What was that? Asuka asked Gwen who shrugged her shoulders, " It must have been the wind or something." she said and for a moment the girls took the time to try and figure out what the sound had been but after a few seconds of racking there brains they decided to forget about it and went back to talking about school.

****** The Games Room ******

* Damn penguin, I should have iced it! * Drake thought as he died and then the words * GAME OVER * appeared, he then stepped back from the Streets Of Blood XXIII arcade game.

Drake wondered why anyone would keep a penguin of all things as a pet as he rubbed forehead to help ease the tension that was there and felt that his skin was a tat to grimy for his liking, * Might as well grab a bath before I hit the sack * he thought to himself with some trepidation as he made his way out of the games room and up to the third floor.

Rei heard a the rattle of the bathroom's doorknob that brought her out of pleasant daze and heard Drake say

" Who ever's in there are you going to be much longer? "

" I'll be out in a few minutes. " Rei called out as she got up off the floor, and pulled the plug in the tub to let it drain while she dryed off and then began to get dressed.

Drake was chewing on a thumb nail when the bathroom door opened to reveal Rei who was standing there in her school uniform with her damp blue hair plastered to her skull and Drake took a minute to look at Rei who had a strange smile, the first smile he had ever seen on her pale face and a far way look in her blood red eyes before she walked passed him, towards her bedroom.

" Strange girl. " Drake said to himself as he walked into the bathroom.

* Sniff SNIFF? * Drake caught the odd scent that was in the humid air of the bathroom and cocked his head to one side as he tried to place the smell with anything that he had come across before and wound up with no answer as to what the scent was.

* Must be a new air freshener of some kind * Drake thought to himself as he locked the bathroom door and begain to get undressed not that he minded the strange odor, in fact he found it quite to his liking as he plugged the tub and begain to fill it with some hot water and continued to enjoy to strange scent.

Once the tub was filled Drake lowered himself into the piping hot water and let out a deep groan as his body begain to unwind, " Well at lest my luck has gotten better. " Drake said to himself as he just sat in the tub and relaxed as the hot water leeched out all the tension in his body as he took a good look around the bathroom for he sit had a hard time believing his good fortune at having to live in such kick ass house, most of the places he had called home back in Granite City had been rat infested hellholes that he had to share with other people who where down on there luck like he had been but they had always been a temporary thing for he had always been a restless person, he was always on the move and never knew why.

* Shit I must be getting old * Drake thought to himself as he have his head a mental shake to free himself from the long trip down memory lane for he was finding that he was become attached to this place even though he did not know Misato, Rei and Asuka all that well they did not bother him all that much like Gwen did and maybe just maybe Asuka as well and as for PenPen he would let the penguin live as long as it kept away from him, back home he knew a few people that he trusted but never let them get close to him for he found that it was for the better if he could walk away without any thing to tie him down to one place.

" Fuck this shit. " Drake muttered to himself as he dunked his head under the water in the tub then took a bottle of shampoo and squirted some of it into his hair and begain to lather it up.

****** Gwen's Room ******

Gwen was laying on the floor under some blankets that Misato had given her and was not to happy about it, after all she should have a proper bed as she did back home.

" Home how far it is. " Gwen said to herself, home had been both a slice of heaven and a hellish prison for her, sure she had just about the best of anything that money could buy such as the large overstuffed bed that he had slept in ever since she had been a little girl, all the toys that she could ever want as the racks and racks of designer clothes that was the in thing at the time and the servants to carry out just about every whim that would take her fancy but there was something missing for both her parents where always busy with work of mingling with the other members of high society to spend any really quality time with her even though they would see to every other need of her's.

* Perhaps the reason they gave me everything that I ever wanted was because that was the only way they could show there love for me? * Gwen asked herself as she looked up and was slowly getting herself lost in the flow of the wood grain of the ceiling and felt a small empty void in her heart starting to grow.

This did not mean she was friendless though out her early life, the servants had not only been servants to her but they had been friends as well for they would always make time for her when she need some one to talk to or to play with when her other friends where not around and they always praised her for her impeccable manors and there had been the other children from the other well to do families that she played with but there was something about them that kept her from getting closer to them.

Suddenly she had been taken away from all that and was finding out that she had to do things for herself and that Misato, Rei, Asuka who he was starting to like and Drake who she was growing to despise whole heartedly would not give into her demands and being in a strange country was scaring her quite badly, never mind having to face what ever hardships that eva training and fighting the angels would engender.

" Oh enough of this mindless prattling! " Gwen muttered to herself as she put the brakes on her train of thought and slowly forced herself to relax and soon she was asleep.

****** Drake's Room ******

Drake was twisting and turning as he felt his body being slowly sliced open as strange sounds drowned out his screaming as his arm was severed from his body in a torrent of spraying blood and shredded skin.

" AHHHHHHHHHH!!!! " Drake screamed as she sat up in his bed room, sweat trickling down his forehead as he griped the top of his sleeping bag tightly.

" Fuck, fuck, fuck! " Drake snarled to himself, for the nightmares where always the same as they haunted his sleep almost every night ever since he was a young child and for a moment Drake just sat there in his sleeping bag as he fought to keep himself from hyperventilating.

" I hate this shit! " he raged as he wiped the sweat from his brow and then got out of his sleeping bag as the first rays of a new sunrise begain to slowly fill his room and he took a moment to let the warm rays of sunlight slowly play over his tired and haggard face before he rubbed the sleep from his eyes.

Once he felt a little more awake Drake got out of his sleeping bag and made his way to the trap door that led to the main landing of the third floor of his new home and slowly crept down the unfolded stairs and took a moment to look around to see if anyone was awake yet and saw that the doors to the other eva pilot's rooms where still shut.

Drake made his way down to the main floor of the house and kept a sharp eye out for PenPen because the last thing he needed right then was another run in with that spazed out penguin as he made his way into the kitchen he came face to face with Misato who was swelling her morning beer as she went about cooking there breakfast, namely reheating the left overs from last night's dinner.

" Drake what are you doing up so early? " Misato asked as she saw Drake standing in the entryway of the kitchen/dinning room and looking like something like a zombie from a pre-second impact Rommaro flick

" I could not sleep. " Drake replied as he begain to hunt for his morning fix of coffee as he kept a fair distance from Misato, unsure as what to make of her as the images of last night's show down slowly played though his slightly exhausted brain.

Misato looked at Drake for a moment as her mind reviewed what Ritsuko had told her about him and decided to let him bring up the matter of last night's incident with PenPen who was still sleeping but when no words where forthcoming from Drake who was filling a kettle with water she decided to push the matter.

" Drake why the hell where you carrying the two knives for? "

Drake stood in front of Misato with a * I don't want to talk about that * look on his slightly sleepy and beragled looking face and asked her to move so that he could put the kettle on the stove to boil, Misato stood a side for a second and watched Drake closely just in case he would lash out at her.

" Well will you answer me? " Misato asked as Drake turned on the heating element that the kettle was resting on then walked away from the stove to hunt for the big jar of insta-coffee that was tucked away in one of the cupboards in the kitchen.

" Look major let it lay that's none of your business, just keep that fucking penguin away from me and things will be cool. " Drake said as he rifled though the many cupboards for the prized jar of life giving coffee.

" Drake your safe here you don't need to be on guard all the time you know. " Misato said as she went back to giving the left overs a quick stir to keep them from burning in the frying pan that they where in and was unsure on how to get her point across to Drake who gave her a nasty scowl before he went back to hunting up the jar of coffee that he was looking for as the kettle begain to slowly boil on the stove.

But before any more words could be exchanged there came the pitter-patter of foot falls from the hard wood stair well telling them that they where no longer the only ones that where awake and they both, well Misato decided to left the matter rest for the time being as Rei came into the kitchen and sat down at the dinning room table looking a lot batter and far more rested then she had been since they all moved into the house as Drake dug out the jar of coffee from the cupboard that it was in.

For a moment Misato gave Drake a look that told him that she wanted to continue with there discussion but she knew that this was not the time nor the place for it and made a mental note to take Drake aside and get to the bottom of this matter before there would be any more incidents like the one last night as the kettle begain to whistle.

Asuka and Gwen came into the kitchen/dinning room, Asuka was dressed in her school uniform as was Rei and Gwen was dressed in a red summer dress with white highlights as Drake was making a cup of coffee and he gave them a * back off * look for he had not yet had his morning coffee and he was in no mood for any kind of argument as Misato finished reheating the left overs and was put it on there plates that she had beside the stove.

" What is this? " Gwen asked as Misato placed the plate of left overs in front of her, " I just reheated the left overs from last night's dinner and I don't want to hear a word about it. " Misato told Gwen for she was in no mood for any complaining from Gwen who was staring at the plate as if it held a pile of dog shit on it, Rei was quietly munching away on her reheated tofu as she watched the rest of them with a weary look in her eyes, Asuka just let out a sigh and begain to dig into her left overs, hopping that they where edible and Drake was to busy shoveling the food into his mouth and drinking his coffee to make a comet on the matter.

" This is inexcusable, why should I have to eat this garbage?, I am an eva pilot and expect to be treated like one, so take this away and cook me out some eggs benedict and sweet ham steaks I demand it right now! " Gwen said to Misato in her most commanding voice for there was no way in hell she would eat this commoner's fare for she was from a much more dignified background and she soul be given the things that where befitting of her station and give Misato a

* I am such an important person and you had better treat me as such * look that caused Misato's eyes to bug out in rage, Asuka had a slightly stunned look on her face, sure she had back talked Misato a few times but she had never been as bad as Gwen was at that moment even though Asuka hated to admit it she did respect Misato enough that she would never say such outrageous things to her like Gwen had.

The vein in Misato's left temple pulsed a few times as a mixture of outrage, frustration and the urge to beat the ever living shit out of Gwen washed over her like a tidal wave then she slowly walked out of the dinning room with tears of frustration in her eyes as she suffered a slight mental collapse leaving the four children sitting there and wondering what the hell was going on.

Rei looked at Gwen for a moment then got up from the table and left the dinning room Drake just sat there and drank his coffee as his eyes narrowed slightly in disgust at Gwen's behavior and he mentally thanked the fates that he had not been born a rich man.

" Gwen I think you went to far there, I mean what the hell where you thinking, the major is not made of money you know so you should be thankful that she is taking care of us. " Asuka said to Gwen with a slight trace of anger in her voice, sure Gwen could be a bit of a spoiled bitch at times but that had way over the line.

Gwen looked at Asuka for a moment then they begain to have a small tiff over what had happened, while Drake for reasons that he was unsure of sat there drinking his coffee.

" Major Katsuragi may I come in? " A voice called out and Misato turned to see Rei standing at the door of her bedroom with a strange look in her eyes.

" What do you want Rei? " Misato asked as she wiped the last of her tears from her eyes as her frustrated rage begain to ebb.

Rei took Misato's question as a sign to enter and she walked into the bedroom and closed the door behind her, " Major are you all right? " Rei asked for what had happened in the dinning room had puzzled her, she though that Misato would have been angry at Gwen as she had been with her and Asuka after Shinji had gotten hurt but since she did not Rei knew that something was amiss with the major and for reasons that she could barely understand she felt the need to make sure the Misato was all right.

" Why did you not get angry at Gwen for when she said those things to you? " Rei asked as she stood a few feet away from Misato and was looking her over, take note of her body's position and the look of anger and something that she could not identify and begain to run that though her mind in order to understand what was going on with the major.

Misato was kind of surprised by Rei's question for a moment, " Well Rei I don't know why I did not give Gwen shit for lipping off to me, maybe it was because I was to mad to do so without hurting her. " Misato said as she did the best to get a hold of herself as her anger as she tried to figure out where Rei was going with all of these questions.

Rei looked at Misato for a moment then without another word she left her room and went back to the dinning room to finish her breakfast leaving Misato to sort out her emotions when Rei got back to the dinning room she saw that Asuka and Gwen where having a slightly heated discussion between them while Drake was slowly drinking his coffee and for a moment Rei was very tempted to tear a few strips off of Gwen but decided to keep quiet on the matter as she sat down to eat what was left of her breakfast but she did pay attention to the conversation between Gwen and Asuka, she figured correctly that doing so would give her more insight to there personalties.

After a few more minutes Misato came back into the dinning room and gave them all a harsh glare before she started to speak to Gwen.

" Gwen you have no right to give me any grief over the kinds of food that I made for you, this is not you old home things are going to be very different and if you don't like that's just to damn bad, so grow up because I'm no longer going to put up with your snotty, spoiled attitude do I make myself clear? "

From the look in Misato's eyes Gwen knew she was beaten on the matter, " Fine! I put up with this nonsense but I am not going to like it! " she said to Misato and begain to pout, she wanted to say more but she knew that it would be a good idea to dummy up because Misato looked like she was ready to spit fire if she talked back to her.

" Now that we have that taken care of get your things together Rei, Asuka I'm going to drop you off at school first, Gwen Drake after I have dropped them off I'm going to take you shopping for some school supplies then I'm going to bring you back to the school and enroll you in it and I don't want lip from ether of you all right? " Misato said as she looked the four children over and saw Rei had the same dead pan look on her face as usual, Asuka looked like she was about to suffer from a case of terminal boredom, Drake had a very displeased look on his face and Misato shot him a * Don't start with me * look and Gwen was still pouting.

As they where diving towards the school Drake looked at Gwen who was sitting on his left and then looked over at Asuka who was on his right in the backseat of Misato's car, Rei was sitting up front with the Major, Both of the girls where doing there best to ignore him and he did like wise but he had to know what the school was like but he was sure that if he asked Asuka she would probably tell him to shut up so he asked Rei about it, " Hey Rei what is the school like, is it a dump or what? "

Rei turned her head so she was looking over her shoulder as she answered Drake, " The school is clean and the teachers are orderly pilot Frost. " and became slightly puzzled by his reply, " That's not what I mean, I mean what are the teachers like, are the good, bad or just a bunch dumb asses that there to collect a paycheck? "

Rei thought about what Drake had said to her for a moment, " The teachers are efficient at there job of teaching the students what they need to know in there relevant classes to educated them. " she said and that left Drake as the confused one out of the bunch until Asuka spoke up to clear the matter of his question.

" The school's ok most of the students are a bunch of whimps and the teachers are ok for the most part save for Miss.Amieuoki the math teacher she's a bitch, if you wanted to know what is what about the school you should have asked me instead of wondergirl who's brain dead as usual." but before any of them could say another word Rei stuck her left hand over the front passenger's seat and flipped Asuka the bird, " Fuck you Asuka I'm sick of you calling me that if you can't call me by my name then shut your mouth you greman whore! " she added but before Asuka could reply Misato looked at both Asuka and Rei.

" SHUT THE HELL UP!, I'm sick and tried of you two fighting all the time!"

" KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE FUCKING ROAD YOU DUMB FUCK! " Drake yelled as the car started to swerve into the on-coming traffic lane and Misato saw a transport tuck barreling down on them and gave the steering wheel a hard twist to the right to avoid turning them all into a red stained lump of twisted metal causing them to topple over to there left causing Drake to grab on to the closet thing to keep himself from falling on Gwen who was mashed into the door next to her, unfortunately for him he grabbed Asuka's left leg causing her to yet out a startled scream as his fingers dug into her flesh and she smacked him up side the head leaving a red hand print that covered the entire right side of Drake's face.

The suddenly came to a screeching halt as Misato jammed her foot down on the break peddle leaving one hell of a long skid mark on the asphalt, luckily for Rei she had done up her seat belt and that spared her from having her face plastered all over the windshield as Gwen, Asuka and Drake where pitched forwards into the back of the front seat and for a moment there was a dead silence in the car that last 1.5 seconds before they all started to shout and blame one another for what had happened as well as some truly nasty name calling.

* BANG! *

The four children froze at the sound of the gun shot that damned near ruptured there eardrums as it echoed in the car, filling the air with the stench of cordite and the round punched a hole in the roof of the car.

All the children could do was cringe in terror at the sight of Misato who was holding the smoking gun in her right hand with a white knuckled grip, her eyes narrow slits.

For a moment the only sound that could be heard besides the beating of four terrified hearts and one heart that was beating in rage was the sounds of cars the sped passed them.

Misato holstered her gun, slowly turned back to face the road and slowly stepped on the gas peddle as the four children sat there with a * HOLY FUCK! * look on there pale faces.

The rest of the trip would be uneventful as the car slowly made it's way towards the school and the four children could see the look of madness in Misato's eyes and knew that if they wished to keep breathing they should be very very quiet.

Once Asuka and Rei had been dropped off at the school Misato drove Gwen and Drake to large bookstore, once the car came to a stop Misato told Drake and Gwen to stay put if they knew what was good for them and from the evil eye that she was giving the two of them they realized that it would be a good idea to heed her words and they nodded there heads to tell the very pissed off major that they understood what she had told them and Misato could see from the frightened look on there faces that she would have no further trouble from them and got out of the car.

Once Misato was in the bookstore she took a deep breath, held it for a few seconds and then let it out as she felt relief for being away from the children, once she got herself together she walked over to a cashier and asked what aisle the school supplies where kept and once she had the information she went about her task of buying Gwen and Drake the things they would need for school such as notebooks pencils and the like as well as two books on how to speak japanese in english for the two of them.

* I hope these little shits appreciate this * Misato thought to herself as she made her way over to the cashier an paid her for the supplies.

When Misato walked over to the car she was surprised to see Gwen and Drake sitting there quietly, she figured that by the time she was done in the bookstore and came back to the car they would be arguing about something, she opened the driver's side door and put the bag of school supplies on the front passenger's seat, got in and started up the car after she shut her door.

As they where driving back to the school Misato stole a look at Gwen and Drake though her rear view mirror and she could still she the look of fear and mistrust in there eyes.

* God damn it why do I have to feel guilty for, the little bastards deserved a good scare. * Misato thought to herself but try as she might to reason with herself over what she had done as they where driving to the school she still could not shake the feelings of guilt from her mind and that made her ebbing frustration grow once more.

****** Tokyo-3 Number 1 Public Jr. High School ******

Once they reached the high school and came to a stop in the parking lot Misato divied up the supplies she had brought from the bookstore she turned to face them.

" Ok now I want you two to stick with me while I register you two, once that is done I'll introduce you to the principle and he'll answer any questions you might have about the school and I don't want any trouble from ether of you..understood? " she said to the two children.

" I understand." Gwen said in a meek and slightly fearful voice for the whole gun shot incident was the first time she had come face to face with real violence, sure there had been a arguments and at worst threats of bodily harm from her friends and other that she use to hang around with when ever they fought but she had never been around anyone with a gun and let alone hear a for real gunshot in person, to say that it was a miracle that she did not wet herself at the sound would be a gross understatement of the fact.

" Ya sure what ever. " was Drake's reply and there was a slightly sullen and fearful tone in his voice, since he had pretty well grown up on the streets he was no stranger to violence but that had been the first time he had been in close proximity to a gun when it was fired and he was not to keen to go though the experience any time soon.

As they where walking towards the main office of the high school both Gwen and Drake could see that the school was indeed as clean as Rei had told them, there was no signs of graffiti on the outside of the school that they could see, the hall floors where polished to a shine and the windows where crystal clear and there was no signs of dust anywhere.

As they moved closer towards the main office they saw a few students that where making there way to there classes and Drake let out a groan when he saw that the student where wareing uniforms for he had a sneaking suspicion that he and Gwen would have to ware one as well, Gwen on the other hand found the girl's school uniforms to be fashionable.

" Hey Misato can I ask you a question? " Drake said as they walked past a few students who where giving him and Gwen the once over, he gave them a cold look that was about as scary as a fart in tornado as far as he could tell as the students turned away and went to there classes.

"What is it Drake? " Misato asked as she stopped and turned to face him with a blank look on her face that she had purposely placed there, unsure if Drake's question was going to cause a problem.

" Is alright to tell the other students that we're eva pilots? "

Misato smiled slightly, thankful that Drake was not going to make a fool of himself or them by asking a bullshit question, " There's no problem with telling the other students that you are eva pilots, the students here know that Shinji, Asuka and Rei are eva pilots, but don't think for an instant that being an eva pilot makes you any better then the rest of the students here. " Misato said to clear up the matter as Drake shrugged his shoulders as if to say * what ever *

Once they entered the main office Misato asked one of the secretaries if the principle was in and that she had two new admissions for there school, the secretary picked up a phone and dialed a number waited for a few seconds and then spoke into the phone for a few minutes then hung up the phone and told Misato to go down the hall and the third door on the right was the principle's office and then gave her a bow that Misato returned and they talked for a few minutes as Misato gave the secretary Drake and Gwen's names and the other information to get them registered into the school's database and once that was done she led Gwen and Drake down the hall towards the principle's office.

" Come in the door is open. " a voice called out from behind the door that Misato had knocked on and she opened the door.

" Greetings Major Katsuragi it is good to see you again. " a short, plump and slightly balding man said as he bowed towards Misato, Gwen and Drake, there was a warm and pleasant tone to his voice.

" Mr.Lo it is a pleasure to see you once more " Misato as she returned the bow before she added " I have two students that I wish to enroll into this school. " she added and for a split second she felt sorry for the principale, teachers and students for turning Gwen and Drake loose on them but it had to be done.

Mr.Lo looked over at Gwen and Drake and gave them a fatherly smile that was lost on Drake and caused Gwen to smile a bit, " I am Hung Lo, the principle of Tokyo-3 Number 1 Public Jr. High school. " he said causing Gwen to nod her head slightly and Drake had to bite his inter-cheek to keep himself from laughing at the principals 's name.

" I am Gwen Masters it is nice to make you acquaintance. " Gwen said as she bowed towards the principle, when it came time for Drake to introduce himself he stuck out his hand, " The name's Drake Frost how are you doing? " he said in a relaxed tone of voice as Gwen shot him a side long glance of disprovable, Drake still could not wrap his brain around the concept of bowing to other people when a good old fashion hand shake would do just as well when they first met.

Unperturbed by Drake's breach of manors Hung Lo reached out and shook Drake's offered hand.

" It is good to meet the two of you he said as he withdrew his hand, I hope that you will enjoy you time in this school. " he added before he motioned with his hand for them to take a seat.

Once they where seated Misato briefly explained to Hung Lo where Drake and Gwen had come from and that they where to be eva pilots like Rei, Shinji and Asuka and that part of there training also included continuing with there education.

Hung Lo looked at Gwen and Drake for a moment then asked them if ether of them spoke japanese.

" I know only a few word in you language. " Gwen said in a relaxed and mannerly voice, " But I do wish to learn more of your fascinating language. " she added.

Drake looked at Hung Lo and said, " The only words I know in japanese is chop suey. " he said with a slight grin as Misato, Gwen and Hung gave his a disapproving look, " What? I was only joking for crying out loud!" Drake added in a defensive tone of voice knowing that he had screwed up with that comment and mentally thought to himself that they all needed to take a chill pill.

Hung Lo shook off Drake breach of edict and told them that they would be wearing school uniforms everyday that they came to school as he took a good look at how Gwen and Drake where dressed.

" I find that your school's uniforms are quite elegant and I will have no problems wearing one of them. " Gwen told the principle with a pleasant smile on her face that warmed Hung Lo's heart with pride.

Drake shook his head " I don't much care for a monkey suit but if that's the way it is here I guess I'm SOL on the deal. " he said as he sat back in his seat and his trench coat fell open to reveal a white T-shirt with the words * WHO FARTED? * done in big red letters and that earned him a few scornful looks that annoyed him greatly and gave them a cold look of his own, Misato shook her head * Kami take me now! * she thought to herself, knowing that Drake was going to screw things up but what she had not known was when.

" That is one of the rules of this school." Hung Lo said to Drake and he could tell that Drake did not want to be at this school so he made a mental note to have the teachers keep an eye on him for he was sure that Drake was going to be a troublesome student, on the other hand he had a feeling that Gwen was going to be a star student and that would sort of balance things out concerning these two new students.

" Well I'll have your class list drawn up and can start today, Major Katsuragi you can pick up there uniforms from one of the secretaries as well as there combination lock and locker number, they can wear there street clothes for today. " Hung Lo said to Misato before he turned to face Drake and Gwen.

" You will be on your best behavior while you attend this school I will not tolerate any trouble and there is a strictly enforced weapons and drug polices, if you are found with a weapon or any type of drugs you will be arrested is this understood? " he added as he gave them a hard look.

" I understand and agree with your rules, I will not let you down sir." Gwen said as she gracefully bowed her head and missed the scorning look from Drake, * Ass kisser * Drake thought to himself then he looked at Hung Lo, " Don't worry about me I don't start trouble but if trouble comes my way I deal with it my way." he said in a cold tone of voice and added " As for drugs you needn't worry I have seen to many people messed up on that crap and I have no wish to make that kind of a mistake. " he added as he found himself take a slight disliking towards the principle.

For a moment there was quiet stillness in the air of the principle's office then Hung Lo stood up as did Misato, Drake and Gwen fallowed there lead and stood up as well.

" If you will come with me we'll have one of our secretaries take you measurements for your uniforms and get your class list and combination lock." he said and they filed out of his office, once they where in the main office the principle called one of the secretaries over and explained to her that he needed to take Gwen and Drake's measurements, once that was done he walked over to one of the computers and begain to type something on it as the secretary called Drake over to one side while she took out a tapemasure and begain to take his measurements and when she knelt down to measure his legs Drake had to bite his lip as he fought down the urge to say something quite rude.

Once the secretary was done with the tapemasure a printer rattle to life as Hung Lo stood before it, once it was done he took the two sheets of paper that had spat out and gave one to Drake and waited for the secretary who measured Drake to get finish measuring Gwen once that was done he gave her the other sheet of paper while the secretary went into a storage closet and came out with six sets of school uniforms, the normal every class uniform that consisted of black pants, white dress shirt and black dress jacket with the school emblem over the heart and black dress shoes along with a white T-shirt with the school emblem on the front in black and a pair of black shorts and high top sneakers for P.E. class and a pair of black swimming trunks for Drake.

Gwen's outfits where one black skirt with a white blouse and a black over vest with the school emblem over the heart and a pair of black dress pumps for her classes, a white T-shirt and black shorts with the school emblem in the middle of the shirt and black high top sneakers for her P.E. class as well as a one piece black swim suit with the school emblem on the front and handed them out, once that was done Hung Lo led Gwen and Drake to there lockers with Misato following them.

" Drake, Gwen I want you two to behave yourselves or I'll ground the two of you for a week. " Misato said to the children but before they could said a word she spoke once more.

" I know that coming to a new school in a new country is...unsettling but it'll just be like school back home so there is no reason to make a fuss about anything because the last thing any of us needs is any trouble. " she said mostly for Drake's sake who was looking a little intimidated at the moment and just to cover all the bases with Gwen even though she was sure that Gwen would behave herself but it was better to be safe then sorry, she also told them that she would take there dress uniforms home with her as they stashed the P.E. uniforms in there lockers.

Drake gave Misato a cold look, " Look Major like I said before I don't start trouble but if anyone gives me an attitude I'm just going have to adjust it for them, that does not mean I'm going to clobber them unless they have it coming to them. " he said as made his face become a lifeless mask of flesh.

" Damn it Drake there is no need for that, why can't you behave yourself for? " Misato fired back as she begain to have second thoughts about having Drake in school because the last thing she needed was to have Drake get arrested for maiming or killing another student.

" Well excuse me but I am not going to put up with any shit from anyone got that! " Drake snarled not caring that he was in school nor that he was raising his voice as Misato gave him a hard look that became a stand off between the two of them.

" Drake if someone gives you an attitude ignore them there not worth the time. " Misato said in a flat voice, hopping like hell that she could reason with Drake who was looking like he was about to blow a gasket as she clamped down on her own anger that was starting to grow due to the scene that Drake was making in front of the principle, Lo had a grave look on his face as he continued to watch the two of them, Gwen just shook her head as she felt the need to put some distance between her and Drake and Misato as well she was still frightened of the Major ever since the fired off her gun and she sure as hell did not want to have the major freak out on her.

Drake thought about what Misato was telling him and as much as he hated to admit it she was right on that count but he was still not buying it though, " Well the hell am I suppose to do if someone starts getting physical me, let them beat on me? " he said in a sullen tone of voice as he looked away from Misato as he fought to keep himself calm and having a damn hard time doing so.

Misato let out an exasperated sigh as she felt the need to beat some sense into Drake when she suddenly remembered what Ritsuko had told her about Drake and decided to tray a different tactic instead of getting mad at him, " No Drake you don't, if someone starts a fight with you, you walk away and tell one of the teachers about it and let them deal with it. " she said but from the look on Drake's face he was not buying into the idea at all, " Sorry major that does not fly with me, if there's one thing I have learned is that if you don't stick up for yourself no one else will and if there's one thing I am not and that is a rat! " he said into a frustrated and mistrustful voice and for a moment Misato could see a slight look of pain in Drake's eyes that made her take a moment to reassess the situation.

" Drake trust me on this matter ok? " Misato asked and despite her best attempt she could not keep the pleading tone out of her voice, that caused Drake to slow down for a moment to rethink about this situation they where in for there was one thing he was sure of, well had been sure of until that moment was that the major was not the one to pled with some one his age.

Drake took a deep breath, held it then let it out, " Look major I can't promise you anything but I'll at lest give what you say a try ok? " he said and forced himself to relax because that moment he was feeling like as nervousness as a long tailed cat in a room full of old ladies in rocking chairs.

" That's all I ask. " Misato said to Drake with a lot of relief for she was unsure on what she would have done if Drake continued acting the way he was and from the look in his eyes she was sure that he would at lest try to behave himself and for that she was thankful.

Misato opened her purse and pulled out her wallet and for a moment Drake was slightly insulted for he thought Misato was going to try and bribe him into behaving himself.

" Gwen Drake here some money so you can buy yourselves some lunch at the school cafeteria." Misato told them as she handed then fifteen yen each, " I'll take your dress uniforms home with me ok?, but I have to go now if an angel attacks find Asuka and Rei, stay with them and I'll come to pick you all up. " she added as Gwen and Drake handed her there dress uniforms and felt slightly uneasy at her words, even though they had yet to start there eva training the thoughts of an attack from an enemy that was unknown to them and Misato could see the lurking dread in there eyes and did her best to reassure them that if an attack happened that they would not be sent into combat or so she hoped.

Once Misato was gone Hung Lo told Drake and Gwen to fallow him as he led them to there first class and explained that they would have to give a brief introduction to there teacher and classmates since it was the first day at a new school and that all japanese students do so on there first day at a new school.

Misato put the uniforms in the back seat of her car once that was done she stopped to gather her thoughts for her nerves where frazzled.

As she looked at her car she saw the bullet hole in the roof and shook her head for she knew that she had screwed up big time with that dumb ass move in the car, * How am I ever going to get them to trust me now? * she thought to herself as she closed the back door then got into the car, that would be a question that would haunt her thoughts until she reached her distention and she would find no answer to that question in that time.

****** Nerv Mental Health Ward ******

" Major Katsuragi..um it's..um good to see you again. " Dr.Newman said as he saw Misato walk into the psychiatric wing of Nerv and he felt the need to go to the bathroom badly at the cold look that the major was giving him.

" What is Shinji Ikari's status? " Misato asked the doctor with a malevolent tone of voice as she gave him a look that could cause third degree burns in less then a second.

" Well..un he is well..um more coherent. " Dr.Newman said as he felt a trickle of sweat dip down the back of his neck * After you got him off of all the shit you had him doped up on you asshole! * Misato thought to her self as she took great enjoyment from the doctor's discomfort and for a moment she felt a slight stab of pity for him but since her life had been made a living hell in the last few days she crushed down the bergoing pity she was experiencing and gave the sweating doctor an even more nasty stare and cackled evilly to herself.

" What else? " Misato asked as she changed her voice from a malevolent tone to a purring growl that seemed to say * I'm not done with you yet, not by a long shot assface. *

Dr.Newman felt his guts roll in the churning sea of stomach acids that where flowing freely as he continued to talk to the Mad Major as he called her, " Ah well he's sould be ready to leave in a..um few days, his..er progress has been...well quite remarkable really. " he said to Misato in soothing voice that wasn't even fazing Misato in the lest as she continued to look at him much in the same way a hungry cobra looks at a mouse.

" Is that so?..well that IS some good news. " Misato said as she slowly waked over to where the doctor was standing with a truly evil smile on her face that would have sent the doctor running for the hills while screaming for his mommy if he had been any less of a man.

" I wish to see him..now! " Misato snarled as she stood over the doctor with a murder, death, kill look in her eyes that where narrowed into hateful slits as she found herself becoming aroused by this power game she was playing and for a split second she had the metal image of her sitting at the commander's desk with his tinted shades on her face as she held her hands folded over her mouth to hide an evil smile, * Note to self as soon as I'm done here find Kaji a.s.a.p.! * she thought to herself as she watched the doctor's face turn and interesting shade of bloodless white.

" I-I-I..ur...um believe...ah that he's..* gulp *...in the cafeteria...if you'll..um fallow me...I-I-I take you to him. " Dr.Newman said in a slightly wistling voice that sounded much like a steam whistle as he felt a heavy load forming in his bowls.

" Lead on. " Misato said in a mockingly cruel voice as she smiled widely to give the doctor an unwanted look at her teeth.

Well it was quite amazing that Dr.Newman did not make a brake for it as he clenched his sphincter tightly as he walked towards the cafeteria and he could feel the Mad Major's piercing stare bore it's way though the back of his head.

Misato felt her heart lighten when she saw Shinji sitting at a table and he was eating from a tray of food that look about as appetizing as week old puke.

She walked over to Shinji who had a deeply depressed look on his face as he seemed to stare off into nothingness.

" Shinji I'm so glad that you are doing better. " Misato said as she hugged Shinji and felt a slight touch of sorrow as he hugged her back with a deep desperation that was palatable from the intensity of his embrace.

" Thank you Misato..my angel Shinji said with the last two words being nothing more then a wispier that only he heard as he fought to keep his tears from flowing freely as the sheer rottenness of his situation threatened to overwhelm the fragile hope that was struggling to live within his soul.

Misato was aware that they where not alone int the cafeteria and she turned her head to face Dr.Newman as she continued to hold Shinji close to her heart and twisted her face into the most evil and menacing death's head grimace she could muster that sent the doctor running for the nearest restroom but time was not on the doctor's side and just as he barged his way into the restroom he fumbled to undo his pants the pressure in his bowls and bladder got the better of him and he let out a disgusted scream that was heard by no one but himself as he soiled himself quite badly.

" Shinji how are you doing? " Misato asked as she and Shinji let go of each other.

Shinji looked at her and felt his badly trampled spirit lift as he looked into her eyes and saw what he could only describe as love that she had there.

" I'm doing better...I...I am not sure what happened to me once I got here and I..um....." Shinji said as his brain failed to find the words that he wanted to say and this caused a look of concern on Misato's face as his apparent inability to finish what he was saying made her think that Shinji was still being drugged by the doctor that she had been tormenting since she got there and if that was case she vowed that he would cram every pill in the psychiatric ward down his throat and damn the consequences.

Shinji saw the look on Misato's face and felt a slight stab of worthlessness well up in his heart * Why must I always hurt the once I care about, as if my life is not fucked up enough I don't need this shit! * he thought to himself and despite the way he was feeling at that moment he knew that he had to pull it together for Misato's sake, " Misato I'm fine, really I am just having a hard time.....adjusting to what has happened to me." he said as he forced himself to keep a stiff upper lip but his heart just was not into it.

Misato could see every hurt and feeling of worthlessness that was etched on Shinji's face as she felt her own troubled soul starting to scream in despair.

* I must be strong for him, I MUST! * she thought to herself as she felt the need to hold him tight and never let him go as she vowed right then and there that she would never let him down no matter what that nether heaven nor hell would stop her form protecting him.

" Well I am glad to hear that Shinji I-I hope that you will be.... " Misato felt her throat tighten up as she struggled to say what was on her mind that was now thinking twenty different things as her emotions ran rough shod over her and for a moment nether of them moved or said a thing until Misato saw Shinji's eyes starting to mist up and she reached out fro Shinji who embrace her once more as choking sobs where coming from him.

" Shhh it's ok Shinji I'm here and I'll never leave you, go ahead and cry let it all out. " Misato cooed as she begain to slowly stroke his hair as the air of the cafeteria where filled with the muffled sobs from Shinji that would grow in there loudness as the floodgate of horror and despair where thrown wide open.

As Shinji cried into her chest she felt the warmth of his breath on her left breast and trembled for a moment as her nipple hardened.

* MY GOD WHAT THE FUCK AM I THINKING! * Misato thought to herself as her body continued to react to Shinji's embrace as he continued to cry and she felt sickened to the core by the lust that was slowly spreading though out her body as she felt her groin starting to heat up.

* He's just a kid for crying out loud, get a hold of yourself Misato! * her mind raved as Shinji's crying started to slacken off a little as he begain to ask why this had to happen to him and why was his life sucked shit for and all Misato could do was just hold him tightly as she waged her own battle with her emotions and she felt that this was a battle she just might lose soon if she did not let go on Shinji but she could not for he needed her in his moment of pain and terror and she had vowed never to forsake him but how long could she hold out from her feelings was anyone's guess as the fire in her loins begain to burn hotter and hotter with each passing moment and she bit her lip hoping that the pain would distract her from her swelling lust but it was for not as her hormones rage all the more.

Luckily for her Shinji broke there embrace as he sniffed a few times as his eyes begain to run dry, slowly he looked up at Misato and saw what he thought was a look of sorrow and cursed himself once more for hurting Misato as he took a step back from her.

" T-T-Thank you I needed that. " Shinji said as he wanted to smile but found that he could not as he continued to look into Misato's eyes that had that same look into as a moment ago but he could see there was something else there that he could not understand and that puzzled him greatly.

" What's wrong Misato are you ok? " he asked Misato who was dealing with her feeling as her mind showed her erotic images of her and Shinji that filled her heart with desire and self loathing.

" Nothing Shinji, it just hurts to see you like this. " Misato said and knew from that moment she had said the wrong thing because of the look of worthlessness in Shinji's tear stained eyes she came realize that he was blaming himself for her woe because of what happened to him.

" Shinji listen to me it's not your fault that you are here and that it hurts me to see you like this, you have got to believe me on that." Shinji heard Misato say to him and from the pleading tone in her voice he knew that she disparately wanted him to understand that and for her sake he would do his best do so even though it felt like a lie to him.

" I understand Misato and I thank you so much for all that you have done for me. " Shinji said as he wiped away the lingering wetness from around his eyes and forced himself to smile but found that he could not.

Misato saw the look of...well she was not sure of what she was seeing in his eyes as she looked into them and decided to change the subject as her lust continued to batter her.

" I'm glad that your SDAT player and the books I brought you helped out. " she said as they sat down at the table and did her best to give Shinji a warm smile but for some odd reason she could not do so and that irritated her slightly.

Shinji nodded his head and told Misato that they had been a big help to him as his mind continued to wage war on itself for part of him still blamed himself for the pain that Misato was in but another part of his mind knew that Misato was right and that he should not blame himself for it but from the looks of it did not seem that the conflict within him would be resolved any time soon nor would the countless hurts and horrors of his past until that point in time would be laid to rest.

" Shinji guess what? " Misato said, hoping like hell that the news she had to tell him would lift his spirits.

" What? " Shinji asked as he went back to eating his lunch, hoping that Misato would not mind that he was eating while they talked because he was very hungry despite feeling lower then a snake's foreskin.

" We have a new home and Rei is living with us. " Misato said and took the dark look on Shinji's face as a bad sign, " Really where have we all moved to? " Shinji asked as his mind and body went cold and empty at the mention of Rei and in a round about way Asuka, he was still unsure as what he was feelings where towards the other two eva pilots who had maimed him.

" It's a huge house in the country side, it has everything. " Misato said with a smile that warmed Shinji's heart for a moment and she went on to explain in detail about there new home, once she was done Shinji could see that Misato was happy but there was something in her eyes that told him that this bed of roses was loaded with thorns.

" How did you manage to get such a place? " Shinji asked once Misato had finished speaking and from the momentary pause in her words Shinji had a feeling that he was not going to like the answer.

" The commander arranged it, I don't know why he did and quite frankly I was so surprised by his actions that I haven't given much thought as to why he did it. " Misato said and the dark look on Shinji's face grew much darker at the mention of his father.

" Well I quite sure that he did not do it out of the goodness of his heart, if that asshole has one. " Shinji said acidly, Misato knew that Shinji didn't like his father but she had no idea of the depth of his hatered for him so when she heard Shinji curse out his father it was not the words that surprised her, it was the venom in his voice that had caught her unaware.

Shinji thought about what Misato had told him about the commander and he knew that the rat fucker that he had the misfortune to be sired by had his reasons for doing what he did and that it had nothing to do with his well being, nor the well being of Misato, Asuka or Rei but he was damned if he could figure out what the commander was up to.

Misato could see that this news she was tell him was not going over well, " Shinji are you ok with what I'm telling you?, I have more to add but if you don't want to talk about it we'll talk about something else. " she said to Shinji who was gently biting the corner of his lip.

* Might as well bite the bullet on this happy horse shit! * Shinji thought to himself as he did his best to shore up his will power for he had a feeling that whatever Misato was going to tell him was going to be a bombshell, " Tell me Misato I can handle it. " Shinji said as he took a deep breath and got himself ready for what was to come.

" There's a new eva unit that was brought in from Canada as well as two new eva pilots that are living with us. " Misato said plainly for she had seen the growing strength in Shinji's eyes as he got ready to hear what she had to say and for some reason she had a feeling that he would get mad if she tried to candy coat her words or beat around the bush on the matter and that surprised her.

Shinji thought about that for a moment and it became clear why the commander had gave them the house, but there was something else to it that he could not put a finger on and decided to ignore that for now.

" So who are the new pilots? " Shinji asked and from the pained look on Misato's face he knew this was not going to be good," There names are Drake Frost and Gwen Masters, they're both from Canada."

" And they have been driving you up the wall right? " Shinji said and from the weak smile that formed on Misato's face he knew he had hit the nail on the head, " I swear the commander hates me, Gwen is such a spoiled little bitch that I want to strangle her and Drake is a ticking time bomb that can go off at anytime. " Misato told Shinji who nodded sagely before he popped the question, " Does this mean I have to pilot an eva still? " and hoped against hoped that the answer would be no.

" I don't know Shinji, I know that you hate piloting the evas but you don't have to if you don't want to you know. " Misato told him as she reached out and gave Shinji's right shoulder a small squeeze as the remains of her growing lust brunt out and died for the time being.

Shinji thought about that for a moment and then of the fateful day when the commander had told him that if he did not pilot unit 01 he would send Rei back into combat who was laying in the infirmary covered in bandages to keep her from bleeding to death from her wounds that she had suffered in an angel attack.

* Right only if it was that easy, if I did that I'd be running away from you and turn my back on the rest of the human race, and I care to much about you to do that. * Shinji thought to himself and Misato could see the deep and thoughtful look in Shinji's eyes and knew that what she had just said to him was but a pipe dream.

" Shinji both Rei and Asuka want to know if it's ok to come and visit you. " Misato said to Shinji who had a frown on his face when he heard that, " I-I don't think I'm up to seeing them right now in fact I don't know if I ever want to see them again. " he said with a very cold tone of voice and Misato could not blame him for that, " Well Shinji the doctor said that you should be able to leave this place in a few days and for what it's worth I hope you come back I-I-I have missed you. " Misato said as she felt sadness at the thought of Shinji leaving them but if he did leave she would not blame him for it for she knew that his life has been a living hell for him up to this point in time.

Before Shinji could reply Misato's cell phone rang and Misato looked at the caller I.D. and saw that it was the high school that she had left Gwen and Drake at and she had a sinking feeling in the pit of her stomach as she answered the phone.

" This is principle Lo I am calling to in from you that Gwen and Drake seem to be fitting in with very few problems but there is a matter that I think you should be made aware of. " the principle said to Misato who asked him what the problem was.

" You should explane to Drake about our customs for he is causing a slight problem with the other students who are insulted by his lack of understanding of our customs, I'm sure that he means no harm but we try to instill a sense of national pride by keep to our age old customs, I'm sure that you understand the point I am trying to make on this matter. " Lo said into his cell phone as he peeked though the window of the classroom door that Drake and Gwen where in and watched Drake who was having a slight problem with the class representative as the class got underway.

" Don't worry Mr.Lo I'm sure that once I explane to Drake the value we place on our customs he'll adopt them as his own, despite his rough personalty not only is he a good kid at heart but his is smart as well." Misato said to the principle hoping to allay his concerns but she knew in her heart that she had her work cut out for her, even though Drake was smart he was set in his ways and did not take to change all that well or so she thought.

" I see I'm sure that you will be able to make him understand the importance that we place on our social customs, now I have to go but I'll keep you informed of any problems that might come up with Drake have a good day. " principle Lo said to Misato before he hung up his cell phone and went back to his office.

" Misato who was that? " Shinji asked once Misato was done talking on the cell phone, for he had seen the slight look of concern that had been on her face and hoped that it was nothing serious for he knew that Misato was having a difficult time with the changes in her life as a wave of tenderness welled up in his troubled heart.

Misato looked over to Shinji and smiled when she saw the look of concern in his eyes as well as the compassion that was there as well, " Don't worry Shinji it's nothing to worry about, it just that Drake is having a hard time fitting in at school and the principle was just bringing it to my attention. " she told him as she sat back down at the table.

Shinji took a moment to look Misato over and he knew in his heart that she would pull though the hard times that where ahead of her for she had always been a strong woman, " I can understand that it was hard for me to fit in at school when I came here from Yokohama but I'm sure that this Drake guy will do just fine. "

he said to Misato who felt that Shinji was being a tat to optimistic.

" Shinji there's a few things you need to know about Drake and Gwen if you are going to come back to our home and continue to pilot you eva. " Misato said as she and Shinji begain to talk for awhile and where able to put there troubles behind them for the time being.
