The Plot Thickens

 

****** The House ******

 

Shinji decided that he had enough of mopping around in his room after Misato had left with Gwen and Asuka and made his way downstairs, he stopped off in the kitchen and rooted around in the fridge for a can of soda then made his way into the lingo to watch some tv and as he watched the tv and despite his best attempt to relax there was something that was a strange nagging in the back of his mind that he could not place and after a few minutes of trying to figure out what was bothering him Shinji shrugged his shoulders and ignored the nagging feeling and went back to watching his TV show.

 

Half an hour later Misato, Gwen and Asuka walked into the house and when they saw Shinji sitting in the living room Misato asked him to help bring some of the bags of food that she had picked up from a supermarket that she had stopped off at on the way home, with a sigh Shinji got up from the couch and made his way out to the car and saw Gwen who had a pale face with a haggard look on it.

" Hey Gwen are you ok? " Shinji asked as he walked towards the car and when he got no answer from Gwen he muttered a curse under his breath and got the two remaining bags out of the back of the car and brought them into the house and after he helped up away the food he walked back into the living room and saw Asuka sitting where he had been seated on the couch and saw that she had changed the chancel on him.

" Asuka I was watching that show! " Shinji snaped at Asuka who was drinking from a can of cola with the remote control in her free hand," Sorry Shinji. " she said and flipped the chancel back to the show that he had been watching leaving a slightly stunned Shinji standing there looking at her for he was sure that Asuka was going to raise a fuss over the tv so when she flicked it back to the show he had been watching he was surprised and for a moment he looked at Asuka who was in mid sip from her can of cola and was giving him a side long look, * What the hell does he want? * Asuka thought to herself as Shinji made himself comfortable on the couch and then Asuka decided that she did not want to be near Shinji and got up from the couch and made her way up stairs to check on Gwen to she how she was doing.

 

Misato was drinking from a can of her beer as she was making dinner for herself and the children when she heard Drake, Touji and Kensuke's voices from the front of the house, she turned down the heat on the stove so the beef and onions would simmer and walked out to the living room where she found Drake, Kensuke and Touji talking to Shinji," Drake can I speak to you for a moment? " Drake I want to tell you that the testing equipment is fixed and that tomorrow I'll be taking you to Nerv for your tests after school so don't make any plans for tomorrow ok? " Gwen said with a slight sigh in her voice for she had a feeling that she was not going to get any peace and quiet anytime soon and that sigh was not lost on Asuka.

" Asuka asked Gwen as she sat down on the chair next to Gwen's desk, " I'm just slightly worn out from the test and I was relaxing until Rei came to my room and asked me if I was alright. " This is a nice suit but it's a little tight around my nads and mini me. " Drake said with a sappy voice as he felt good for some strange reason as he watched the three women looking him over and flashed them a leer and saw there faces turn a slight shade of red, * Where they checking me out or what? * Drake thought to himself and felt his own face turn red as he felt a stirring in between his legs.

" Can we get on with the test? " Drake said in a slightly uptight voice as he begain to think unsexy thoughts for he knew there was no way in hell he could hide a hard on in the tight fitting plug suit, with that said Ritsuko told him to fallow her and turned to walk back to the elevator that would take them back to the test chamber and as they where walk back to the elevator Drake found himself staring at Misato's ass and found out that have a hard on in a plug suit was very uncomfortable indeed.

 

" Ok Drake this is a Mark VII eva entry plug you will be sitting in it when you pilot an eva, so climb on up and we'll be in the next room. " Ritsuko said as they walked into the testing chamber as Ritsuko, Maya and Misato made there way into the control room next to the testing chamber room, Drake shivered slightly as he got a good look at the testing chamber and was reminded of a hi-tech coffin.

" Well here goes nothing. " Drake said to himself as he scampered up the ladder and seated himself in the entry plug.

" Hey how about some lights here. " Drake said as the test chamber closed around him and he begain to feel very uncomfortable, " Ok Drake just sit back and relax as he begain the test. " Ritsuko's voice said out of the com unit in the mock entry plug as the entry plug was lit up like a christmas tree.

" Beginning LCL insertion. " Maya said as she pushed a button on the control panel in front of her.

" HEY WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS! " Drake shouted as he felt the LCL begain to pool around his feet and sat there in fear unsure as what to do in this situation.

" Drake calm down, the LCL will oxygenate your blood directly, think of it as being in your mother's womb when you where a baby. " Ritsuko said into the microphone in the control room as she saw Drake take a deep breath as the LCL flowed over his head and then a few minutes later he let out a gasp and begain to panic slightly as he sucked in a lungful of LCL, " This stuff taste like blood, I think I'm going to puke here! " Drake said as he felt his guts churn slightly as he begain to breath in the LCL, " Quit your whining your a boy you know! " Misato said into the microphone as they saw Drake looking around the mock entry plug and they could see the look of fear and confusion on his face.

 

" Have you ever tasted this shit before! " Drake said as he looked at the small holographic display of the three women on the control room as he forced himself to try and relax as he tried to adjust to the sensation of breathing in a liquid instead of air, " LCL insertion complete. " Maya said as they watched Drake hold his hands up in front of him and make small swimming motions with them, " You know this is kind of freaky but I think I can handle it. " Drake as he quit fooling around with his hands and begain to handle the mock eva controls in front of him, " That's good Drake, all we need you to do is sit there and relax, leave the rest to us ok? " Ritsuko said into the microphone and Drake told them that was fine by him and made himself as comfortable as he could.

" Beginning synchronization in three, two, one MARK! " Maya said as she pressed a few buttons on the control board before her, " That's odd. " Maya said as she looked the sycnrograph and pushed a few more button on the control board, " What is it Maya? " Ritsuko asked as she saw Maya looking very intently at the sycnrograph, " Well it maybe nothing but for a moment I thought I saw an id echo as Drake begain to synchronize with the testing chamber. " Maya said to Ritsuko who had a thoughtful look on her face that alarmed Misato for a moment before she spoke, " Is there something wrong with Drake? " she asked Ritsuko who told her that it was nothing to worry about then she told Maya to continue with the test.

 

" Synchro rate is 5.67, 7.65, 9.01, 12.01 and cimbing. " Maya said as the three of them watched Drake who had a strange look on his face for some reason, " There it is again. " Maya said as she pressed a button to record what she was seeing as Drake synchro rate continued to climb, Drake meanwhile was felling odd as he became slightly restless in the mock entry plug, " Hey you guys I'm feeling kind of funny here! " Drake said with a slightly alarmed voice as he continued to feel not only restless but something else that he could not define, " What's wrong Drake? " Ritsuko asked as she took a look at the syncrograpth that was showing his synchro rate was climbing into the high teens and there was something else that looked like a strange energy echo, " I'm feeling restless like I need to be doing something anything really. " Drake said with a strange smile on his face as he continued to expectance the strange feelings that where bubbling up within him.

' Ok Drake it's nothing, probably just nerves so try to relax, breathe deeply then hold your breath for a few seconds and then let out. " Ritsuko said as she looked back at the syncrograph and saw that Drake's synchro rate was normal and the strange energy echo was gone.

" Synchro rate is 18.09, 18,21, 19.05, 20.70, 21.45, holding steady as 21.89. " Maya said and Ritsuko decided that enogh was enough, " Ok Drake the test is over, you did very well today. " she said into the microphone as she pressed a button that shut off the power to the testing chamber, leaving Drake sitting in the dark as the LCL begain to drain out of the testing chamber then they heard the sound of Drake coughing up the lung ful of LCL that was in his body, " Damn that sucks, feels like I'm puking up a hair ball or something Drake said as the testing chamber opened up.

 

" So how did I do? " Drake asked as he shook his head to try and clear out the LCL that was in his ears

" You had a very high synchronization rate for you first time in the testing chamber, higher then Gwen's synchro rate. " Ritsuko said to Drake as they entered the testing chamber and saw Drake's face light up with pride and added " But not as high as Rei's, Shinji's or Asuka's synchro rate. " so that Drake would not get a swelled head over it.

" That's cool with me, hell I did not know what to expect when I did these test, does that mean I can pilot an eva? " Drake said with a smile.

" Well that depends on how well you do with the rest of your training but I think it's safe to say you have a very good chance of becoming an eva pilot. " Maya chipped in with a smile that gave Drake a warm fuzzy feeling.

" Why don't you take a shower and get changed, you can leave your neural interface plugs in your locker, you'll find the showers in the back of the male pilot's locker room. " Misato said with a smile and she told him that she would catch up to him in a few minutes and watched as Drake left the testing chamber.

" Maya what did you mean that Drake had an id echo? " Misato asked Maya and was answered by Ritsuko.

" An id echo is nothing to worry about it just means that Drake was in a state of high tend mental activity. "

" You don't think it's a sign of metal contamination do you? " Misato said with a slightly alarmed voice for she had no idea of what the hell Ritsuko was taking about but she did not like the sound of it, not one bit.

 

" No it's not a sign of metal contamination it just means that Drake was little more excited and slightly fearful of the test then say Asuka or Gwen when they took there first test. " Ritsuko said and saw that her words calmed Misato down slightly, " I see well I better find Drake before he gets lost or something. " Misato said then turned and left Ritsuko and Maya in the testing chamber and they both wanted to go home and call the day over but they both knew that they had a lot of paper work to do because of Drake's test.

 

****** Somewhere in Nerv ******

 

" Damn it was I suppose to get off on the second floor down from the testing chamber or was it the third floor? " Drake muttered to himself as he took a right turn at a juncture in the look hallway he was in and begain to walk down it, " Damn it all these hallways look the same to me. " Drake said as he came to a set of double doors that seemed familiar to him for some odd reason, " This has got to be the place, I wish they would mark these rooms so I knew where the hell I was going. " Drake said as he opened the double doors and walked into the room, "- The experimental eva that came from Canada will be called unit 03 and the new eva where are working on will called unit 04..." the voice said before it died off as Drake found himself in a very familiar room.

" Pilot Frost what are you doing here? " Gendo said as he folded his hands over his lower face as Drake came to a stop in his office and was looking at him as Sub-Commader Fuyutsuki quickly closed the folders that where on the commander's desk.

" W-Well I um just got back from my first synchro test that I aced and I was looking for men's locker room. " Drake said as he forced a smile and with an * Oh Shit! * look on his face as he looked at the commander and felt like he had just walked in on something that he should not have heard and in the back of his mind he wondered if he was going to be shot for it but managed to keep the fear from his slightly pale face.

" The men's locker room is on level 3, coador B-5. " Fuyutsuki said with a cold tone of voice.

Drake looked at the sub-commader for a moment as he tried and failed to place the man's face with anyone he knew since he came to Japan.

" Well who are you? " Drake asked as he felt a slight shiver race down his spine as he felt the hard look that the commander was giving him, " I am Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki and you are pilot Frost correct? " Fuyutsuki said with a slightly menacing tone in his voice that only served give creep Drake out all the more.

" Yep that's me, Drake Frost, probably the best eva pilot you going to have around here once my training is done. " Drake said with a forced confidence in his voice as the two men continued to stare at him.

" Your overconfidence will be your downfall pilot Frost. " Gendo said with a slight sneer in his cold voice.

* Well fuck you! * Drake thought to himself as he felt a stab of anger at the commander's tone of voice.

" And maybe your lack of faith in my piloting skill with be your's! " Drake said with a snarl as he looked the commander in the eyes and out of the corner of his eyes he saw a look of shock on the Sub-Commander's face because of his brazen outburst and that made Drake feel a little better.

 

* The boy has fire in his belly this will serve me well * Gendo thought to himself as he gave Drake a deadly look, " Leave now- " he said to Drake in his most commanding voice as his mouth turned into a hidden smile by his folded hands and watched as Drake gulped slightly and turned to leave his office "- and pilot Frost you heard nothing is that understood? " he added with a tone of voice that made it all to clear to Drake that it would be a wise idea to keep what he had heard in the commander's office to himself.

" I understand...sir. " Drake said with a slightly cracked voice then shut the doors to the commander's office and took a few steps down the hall way as fast as he could * What a bunch of dick heads! * Drake thought to himself as he made his way back to the elevator and when it opened up he found Misato standing there.

 

" There you are Drake I was looking all over for you, come with me. " she said and Drake walked into the elevator, as they made there way down to the men's locker room Misato felt more then saw the strange look on Drake's face, " Are you ok? " she asked Drake who told her that he was just tired and wanted to get home and rest, " Ok Drake how about we stop off for a cup of coffee on the way home, my treat. " Misato asked with a smile on her face but deep down she knew that there was something that Drake was hiding and knew that he was not going to tell her what was really bothering him so she would have to dig to get to the heart of the matter, " Sure Misato that would be good. " Drake said with a worn out tone of voice.

 

As the elevator made it's way down to the lower levels of Nerv both Drake and Misato stood there in silence.
