Part 12

Torment

 

****** Tokyo-3 Airport ******

 

It was sunset when a plane landed at Tokyo-3's only airport, when the nondescript plane came to a stop it's lone occupant walked down the boarding ramp and over to a black car that was waiting for him then drove off into the setting sun.

 

****** Nerv H.Q. ******

 

Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki did his best to stifle a yawn as he rode the elevator down to the command center of Nerv, the flight from the US back to Japan had been uneventful but he was not spared the horrors of jet lag that told his mind and body to find the nearest bed and to sleep for a few hours but as much as he wanted to he could not for he had a report to make to the commander on his mission to the US.

 

Once the elevator came to a stop and the doors opened he walked out into the command center and saw Dr.Aboa who was reading over some kind of papers while Dr.Ibuki was typing away at a computer terminal and when she heard the elevator doors open she turned around in her seat and asked him how the trip to the United States had been.

 

Fuyutsuki looked at Maya for a moment before he answered her for she was not cleared to be made aware of what had transpired between him and the president of the United States, " The trip to the US was uneventful. " he said to Maya with a slight snarl in his voice due to his tried and worn out state of mind as he sat down to review his presentation to the commander.

Maya gave Fuyutsuki a slightly dirty look for she had just asked a simple question and he had bitten her head off and that did not sit well with her so she ignored him for the time being and got back to her work as Fuyutsuki opened his briefcase and pulled out a bunch of papers and begain to review them.

" Sub-Commander Fuyutsuki report to my office immediately! " Gendo's voice said over the P.A. system and snapped Fuyutsuki out of the light doze that he had been in and he quick got to his feet and gathered his things up for his report to the commander and then made his way to the commander's office.

 

Once Fuyutsuki reached the commander's office opened the door and saw Gendo sitting at his desk with his hands folded over his lower face as usual, " So how was the trip to the Untied States? " Gendo asked as Fuyutsuki sat down in front of his desk and Fuyutsuki told him that trip had been nothing to take note of.

" So where you able to convince the president of the Untied States to increase there funding for us? " Gendo asked as he looked Fuyutsuki in such away that the sub-commander felt uncomfortable.

" I was able to convince him that it increased funding was necessary to insure the survival of the human race. " Fuyutsuki said as he squirmed slightly under the strange look that the commander was giving him and in the back of his mind he could not help but to wonder why the commander was giving him such a look for.

 

Gendo leaned back into his chair as he stroked his beard, " Can you be sure that the U.S. would come though for us?, after all the president knows that if they increase there funding to us it will cause them some economic hardship." he said to Fuyutsuki as he continued to give him the looked that was causing the

sub-commander to sweat slightly.

" Well it took three days of explaining the gravity of our situation as well as explaining what would happen to the human race if we failed to stop the angels but in the end I was able to impress upon the president the full horror of the angels. " Fuyutsuki said with a weak smile as Gendo leaned forward across his desk to take up the report that the sub-commander had placed on his desk as they talked.

" Even though we have no idea of what the angels would do to us or our world save for the fact that they would wipe us out much like a person steps on an ant. " Gendo said as he leafed though Fuyutsuki's report.

" Well I did have to do some creative ad-libbing of the matter to win over the president's approval of a budge increase from them. " Fuyutsuki said with a smirk as he watched Gendo finish flipping though his report.

 

" I'm pleased with your work Fuyutsuki, with the increased funding from the Americans we can increase our operational parameters ten fold. " Gendo told Fuyutsuki as he put down the report and got to his feet as did the sub-commander who thought that the briefing was over, " Is there anything else you need from me commander? " Fuyutsuki asked as Gendo gave him the same look that had so unnerved him juring the briefing.

" Yes there is one thing you can do to help me, there is a halloween party coming up for the Nerv staff and I was wondering if you could help me with my tango, it's been years since I danced a tango. " Gendo said as he pressed a button on his desk and music filled the air of his office and Fuyutsuki stood there in shock, so much so that he just about jumped out of his skin when Gendo took him in his arms and begain to dance with him as the music played on.

 

" Mm commander I don't think that I'm really qualified to help you with this. " Fuyutsuki stammered slightly as he felt Gendo's body rub against his and saw the strange and slightly far way look in Gendo's eyes.

" Nonsense you dance quite well. " Gendo said to Fuyutsuki with a throaty purr as he continued to lead them in there dance across the floor of his office and all Fuyutsuki could do was go though the monitions of the tango as his mind refused to comprehend the unreality of his situation with the commander.

" You have been my right hand man for years and you have served me well and I thank you for that. " Gendo said with a husky tone of voice as he looked into Fuyutsuki's eyes that where slightly widened with shock and fear.

" I knew you where the one for me the moment I laid eyes on you but I was to afraid of the fact that you would reject me if I told you how I felt about you, but I can't hide my feels for you any longer! " Gendo added as he leaned Fuyutsuki back and slowly pressed his lips to Fuyutsuki's lips.

 

" WHHHAAAAAAAA! " Fuyutsuki yelled in terror as he fell to the floor of the command center, drawing all eyes to him as he laid there on the floor, his eyes wide with fearful shock and it took him a few minutes to realize where he was.

" Sub-commander are you alright? " Dr.Aboa asked as he watched the sub-commander get to his feet with a flustered look on his pale face.

" I'm fine! " Fuyutsuki snarled as he shook off the lingering metal imagery of the nightmare he had been in after he had fallen asleep due to his jet lag and sat down at his desk to gather his scattered wits about him.

Dr.Aboa let out a slight * Humff * and went back to his work as Maya did her best to stifle a chuckle at the sub-commander when the P.A. came to life, " Sub-commander Fuyutsuki report to my office. " Gendo's voice said and Maya smirked as she saw the slightly fearful look of the sub-commander's face as he gathered his notes and placed them in his briefcase before he left the command center.

 

" I wonder what freaked him out? " Dr.Aboa said to Maya who took a moment to laugh for she had an idea of what the sub-commander's nightmare had been about for the fearful look on his face when the commander called him to his office and decided to keep her thoughts to herself but she made a mental note to tell Ritsuko about it for she was sure that Ritsuko would enjoy a good laugh at the sub-commander's ex pence and got back to work as Dr.Aboa and one of his friends in the command center staff started to talk about what the sub-commander had been dreaming about before he woke up.

* You boys are so off base. * Maya thought as she listened on the discussion between Dr.Aboa and his friend then got back to her work in ernest.

 

****** The Kitchen Of The House ******

 

Misato was drinking from her can off beer as she watched Drake who was frying up something for not only his or her's lunch but for the rest of the children as well as part of his training of taking reasonability not only for himself but for others as well.

" Smells good Drake, I look forward to trying whatever it is that your are cooking. " Misato said as she finished off her beer.

" Thanks Misato I hope you like it. " Drake said as he stride the frying pan full of hamburger, cheese and crushed tomato with pasta and he then asked Misato to set the table for him as he continued to stir the food.

Misato got up from her seat at the table and fished out some plates from the cupboard and smiled at doing such a thing, * Since when did I become a Suzzy homemaker? * she thought to herself as she laid out the plates around the table, Ever since she had moved to the house after taking Rei, Drake and Gwen under her wing Misato found herself doing more and more domestic chores then she had done when she lived at her old apartment when it was just her, Shinji and Asuka and found that she really did not mind doing such things, once the plates where laid out she went to a drawer to fetch the silverware for lunch.

 

A few minutes later Drake finished frying up lunch and took the frying pan off the stove and then he went to the staircase and yelled, " LUNCH IS ON COME AND GET IT! " then went back into the kitchen to serve up his cooking as the other came down from there rooms, once everyone was seated Drake begain to serve lunch.

" What is this? " Gwen asked as she watched Drake scoop out some of his concoction and placed it on her plate, " It's a little something I learned to whip up when I was living on my own. " he said to Gwen and for the sake of his sanity he kept his voice calm and his words civil even though he had a feeling that both Gwen and Asuka where going to say something out of line, " Hey Drake this is not to bad. " Shinji said as he ate some of the food on his plate and felt his spirits lift slightly for he had been in emotional turmoil ever since Hikari had told him that she had been the one to hurt him so badly, so much so that when he came home after school yesterday Misato could see the agony in his mind and soul but try as she might she was unable to get him to tell her what had him so screwed up so she had asked Asuka, Rei, Drake and Gwen what was going on with him but they for reasons of there own decided not to tell Misato what had happened at school much to her chagrin.

 

" Hey thanks Shinji I'm glad you like it. " Drake said as he laded some of his cooking onto Rei's plate when Asuka told him that the lunch was bland and that really got under Drake's skin, " Look you fussy wench when your on your own and don't have a lot of bucks to spend you cook to fill your guts not for taste, if you don't like it don't eat and cook yourself something else! " Drake snarled as he felt the need to dump the rest of his cooking on Asuka's head but managed to restrain himself.

" What the hell is your problem?, I just said the food was bland no need to have a fit over it! " Asuka fried back as she pushed her plate away from her and got to her feet with a snarly look on her face.

" Asuka, Drake can that shit right now! " Misato said as she put her fork down and gave them both a stern glare that quieted them down but they continued to stare daggers at one another, " Excuse me Drake but what is in this? " Rei asked as she looked at the food that was heaped up on her plate.

 

Drake looked away from Asuka with a curse under his breath and looked over to Rei, " It's crushed tomato, pasta, hamburger and cheese fried up. " he said to Rei who pushed her plate away from her and he felt a slight stab of anger, after all he had worked hard to make her lunch for her and now she was insulting him by pushing away her plate and for a moment he considered tell her to go to hell for being so finicky.

" Drake I can not eat anything made with animal or animal by-products remember? " Rei said with an understanding tone of voice for she did not want to anger Drake but she was damn well determined to get her point across to Drake who stood there for a moment with a thoughtful look on his face.

" SHIT! that's right Rei I'm so sorry I'll make you something to eat in a second. " Drake said with a sheepish look on his face as he turned to put the frying pan aside and get a new one to cook Rei's lunch when Asuka opened her mouth, " Nice going you brain dead twit, mistakes like that are going to get some one killed one of these days. " she said to Drake with a smug tone of voice that caused Drake to spin around and look at her while his eyes bugged out of his skull, as much as he would have liked to drop kick Asuka's ass he knew that she was right and could not say anything about it, so he slowly turned away from Asuka and proceeded to get another frying pan out of one of the cupboard under the sink while he cursed to himself.

 

" You do have a point Asuka but you don't have to be so smug about it! " Shinji said as he continued to eat his lunch and Asuka gave him a dirty look, " Oh like you one to talk, you have made some real bone head moves in the past so put a sock in it! " Asuka said with a raised tone of voice that did nothing to phase Shinji who just calmly looked at her with a smirk on his face that only served to anger Asuka even more.

" And who is the one that rushed off into battle against the angels and caused that one angel to split into to two angels? " Shinji said with a hint of disapproval in his voice as he put his fork down on his empty plate.

" That's not fair and you know it, how the hell was I suppose to know that angel would split into two of them, my attack was flawless! " Asuka raved for that battle with that one particular angel had been a major embarrassment to not only her but to Shinji as well but unlike Asuka Shinji did not let that battle get under his skin like Asuka did.

" Well if you had fallowed orders we would have found out that angel would have split in two with out having our asses handed to us the first time around, but no you had to go and rush off in some damn fool quest to prove to everyone that you are the best eva pilot alive, not that you are you know, I had a higher synch ratio in my first battle then you ever had. " Shinji said with a charming smile and a pleasant tone of voice that he knew would drive Asuka up the wall and what made his words all the worse for Asuka that each and everyone was true.

Asuka sat there, her face turning an interesting shade of purple and Misato knew that this was starting to get out of hand, " Shinji that's enough, Asuka relax, Drake made a mistake and yes it was a bad one but luckily Rei pointed it out to him and I'm sure that Drake will not make the same mistake again so both of you mellow out! " she said with a forceful yet relaxing tone of voice that made it clear to both Asuka and Shinji that it would be a wise idea to drop the matter and so they sat there and remained quiet as Misato returned to her lunch.

 

Shinji excused himself from the table and made his way upstairs as something was nagging at his mind and he could not understand what was bugging him and that was starting to annoy him.

" Hey Rei is this tofu and is this soya sauce? " Drake asked as he held up a few things that he had found in the refrigerator for her to see, " Yes Drake that is tofu and soya sauce. " Rei said to Drake who flashed her a sheepish smile and there was something in the way that Rei had answered Drake that made Misato sit up and take notice even though she had no idea of what had peaked her interest, so she watched Rei who was watching Drake who was frying up some tofu in soya sauce for her even though she had no idea of what she was watching for.

Gwen was eating her lunch in silence for Asuka was right about the lunch she was eating, it was bland and as much as she hated to admit it Drake was right as well the lunch was very filling and for that she was thankful for that because she had been quite hungry at that point in time but there was no way she would ever tell Drake that he was right on anything or thank him for the lunch even though her upbringing was telling her to thank him for make her lunch.

" Come Gwen let's go do something. " Asuka said to her as she pushed away her plate of half eaten lunch and got up from her seat, " I'll catch up to you later, I'm still hungry. " she said to Asuka who looked at her or a moment then left the kitchen.

 

* Maybe Gwen is not such a bad person after all. * Drake thought to himself as he fried up Rei's lunch, even though he was not to happy that he had to cook for Gwen he did it anyways because he knew that if he didn't Misato would get on his case about it, but what surprised him was that Gwen was actually eating his cooking without her usual com planets about the food and Drake was secretly thrilled by that for some odd reason that he could not understand.

Drake finished cooking Rei's lunch and put it on his plate then swaped plates with Rei and sat down to eat his lunch as he watched Rei dig into her lunch, " This is well done Drake...thank you. " Rei said as she finished her first bite of her soya fried tofu and Drake smiled and Misato, Gwen and Rei saw him blush slightly at Rei's words and Misato decided to tease Drake about it.

" Well Drake it looks like you'll be able to open your own restaurant if you decide not to plot an eva, you even have an admirer. " Misato said with a cheerful tone of voice as she flashed Drake a smile that caused his face to turn a deeper shade of red and out of the corner of her eyes Misato saw Rei's face turn a slight shade of red as well, * Now what do we have here? * Misato thought to herself and decided that she should pay more attention to Rei and Drake, Gwen finished her lunch and excused herself from the table as she smiled at Drake's discomfort at Misato's words and put her plate in the sink then made her way upstairs to find Asuka as Misato continued to embarrass Drake and Rei.

 

****** Gendo's Office ******

 

" So sub-commander how was your trip to the US? " Gendo asked as Fuyutsuki sat down and saw a look of discomfort creep across the older man's face and wondered what was up with that.

" The trip was uneventful. " Fuyutsuki said as he watched Gendo give him a questioning look that set his teeth on edge as he opened his briefcase to get his report for the commander.

" I see so where you able to convince the president of the United States to increase there funding for us? "

Gendo asked and Fuyutsuki felt his guts lurch for this briefing was just like in his earlier nightmare as he took his report out of the briefcase and placed it on the commander's desk.

" Yes I was able to convince the president to increase his country's funding for our operations, it's all in my report. " Fuyutsuki said as he used different words to speak to the commander in hopes that by doing so he would be able to change the outcome of this briefing and hopefully keep his nightmare from coming to pass.

 

Gendo could see the outright worry on Fuyutsuki's face and knew that there was a good chance that even though Fuyutsuki had gotten the US to increase there funding for Nerv there might some concessions that would have to be made before the increased funds would come in and that did not sit well with him and he gave the sub-commander a cold, hard look as he decided to grill him about what had transpired between him and the president.

 

" So what exactly happened between you and the president? " Gendo asked Fuyutsuki who was struggle to recall all that had happened between him and the president a week ago as he mistook the piercing stare that the commander was giving him as the same look that the commander had given him in his nightmare and they talked for over an hour that had Fuyutsuki just about ready to jump out of his skin by the hour's end due to all the tontine he was under as the commander continued to give him such a look that was so like the one from his nightmare as they talked.

 

" Is there anything else commander? " Fuyutsuki asked as the conversation between them came to an end.

Gendo gave Fuyutsuki as wary look for he had noticed how uptight the sub-commander had been as they talked about his trip to the United States and for the life of him he could not figure out what was driving Fuyutsuki up the wall but he was going to find out, " What seems to be the problem? " he asked Fuyutsuki as he opened a drawer on his desk and pulled out a bottle of scotch and two glasses, once he had poured himself a drink he offered one to Fuyutsuki who took it and drained half of it in one go, this told Gendo that his friend was deeply troubled by something.

Fuyutsuki put his drink down and looked at Gendo who was nursing his drink and was unsure on what to say to the commander so he decided that it was time to lie a bit, " I'm just over tired from the long flight home, you know that air travel does not agree with me. " he said to Gendo and hoped like hell that the commander would accept his explanation and let the matter drop.

Gendo put his drink down and looked at Fuyutsuki and knew that he was lying but for the sake of the fragile friendship they shared between them he did not call him on that and decided that Fuyutsuki along with himself and the rest of the Nerv staff needed something to ease the tension they where under.

" I'm thinking of throwing a halloween party, we all have been under a lot of tension as of late and I figured that a party would be just the thing to help us all relax a bit. " Gendo said and saw the slightly alarmed look that append on Fuyutsuki's face and wondered what was wrong with the sub-commander because from that look on Fuyutsuki's face he knew that what ever was bothering him it had nothing to do with over work or the stress that they where all under as they waited for the next angel attack.

 

Fuyutsuki felt his blood turn to ice water as he heard the commander talk about a halloween party and just knew that his nightmare was starting to come true, so he took another hit from his drink to steady his frayed nev res as he sought away to escape from the commander before things got out of hand between them.

" Are you sure that is a wise idea, can we really afford to let our guard down? " he asked Gendo who gave him a slightly amused look that sent a chill up his spine.

" I'm sure that if an angel does attack we'll be able to handle it, after all most of the staff will be present in the command center and as for the children I'm sure they can be persuaded to attend the party. " Gendo said as he took a sip from his drink and saw that his word had not gone over well with the sub-commander and decided to continue on speaking.

" There will be some games such as bobbing for apples as well as rounds of Twister and there will be plenty of food and treats for everyone. " he added and saw that Fuyutsuki was turning an interesting shade of green for some odd reason.

" Will there be dancing? " Fuyutsuki asked dreading what the answer would be but he had to know so he could prepare himself or the commander's advances, Gendo finished his drink and smiled openly at Fuyutsuki who felt the need for another stiff belt from the bottle and refilled his glass.

" What a wonderful idea, there could be some slow dances maybe a tango or two. " Gendo said and saw Fuyutsuki's face blanch at his words and he was starting to get a little annoyed with Fuyutsuki's bizarre altitude but kept his peace for the time being.

 

Fuyutsuki knew he was doomed to live out his nightmare but decided that if the commander had the hots for him he would try to gracefully reject the commander's advances, " I'm sure that the rest of that staff would enjoy a good dance but I'm to old for that type of thing. " Fuyutsuki said as he wondered for the umpteenth time why Gendo would have an interest him after all it was hardly a secret that he and Dr.Akagi lovers in a strange and twisted way, but how strange and twisted he did not know nor did he want to know.

" I'm sure you could find someone to practice with before the dance. " Gendo said as he refilled his glass and saw the left side of Fuyutsuki's face twitch at his words and he had enough of this nonsense and decided to get to the bottom of the sub-commander's strange behavior.

" What is bothering you and I know it's not jet lag. " Gendo said in a Fri tone of voice as he took a sip from his drink for he had a feeling that he was going to need it.

 

Fuyutsuki knew he was caught and caught cold so with a trembling hand he finished off his drink and slowly begain to tell Gendo what was driving him bug shit and when he was done speaking he felt like he was going to have a heart attack as he watched Gendo fold his hands over his lower face.

 

Gendo did not know what to make of his friend's shocking admission, he was so shocked by it he did not know if he should be angry or laugh at what he had been told and decided to play it cool with Fuyutsuki.

" I'm surprised you would think of me in such a way as that but know this I'm not into men I still consider you a friend but nothing more is that understood? " he said to Fuyutsuki in a stern yet understanding voice and felt relief as he saw the look of relief appear on Fuyutsuki's face and knew that the matter was settled there was an unspoken understanding that they would never speak of this matter again, Gendo dismissed Fuyutsuki who was more then glad to leave his office so he could gather his scattered wits about him before he went about his tedious as the sub-commander of Nerv, once he was gone Gendo opened the P.A. system and called for Ritsuko to come to his office as he felt the need to re sure himself of his sexuality.

 

****** Asuka's Bedroom ******

 

Asuka was sitting with Gwen and they where playing a game of poker, well more to the point Asuka was kicking Gwen's ass in the game and she smiled at Gwen as she laid out her cards, " Four aces and queen, what do you have? " Asuka asked Gwen who laid her hand out, " Three tens a king and a jack, looks like you win again. " Gwen said with a forced smile for the score between them was Asuka and Gwen.

Asuka could see that Gwen was losing interest in the game and decided to call it quits, " Don't worry you'll get better at poker, it just takes time tell you what why don't we go swimming it's a nice day out and I don't know about you but I don't fell like being cooped up in this house. " she said to Gwen with a smile.

" That sounds like a great idea, I'll go and get changed into my swimsuit and we can hit the lake. " Gwen said with a smile of her own as she got up from where she was sitting on the floor of Asuka's bedroom and made her way to her bedroom to get changed, once she was gone Asuka begain to strip off her clothes after she made sure the door to her bedroom was shut ad she took a moment to let the warm sunlight dance of her nude body, * That's nice. * Asuka though as the rays of sunshine warmed her breasts then she turned around so the sunlight would warm her back and her ass and as much as she would have liked to lay there in the buff in the sunshine she knew that Gwen would be waiting for her so Asuka quickly changed into her two piece swimsuit and went to the bathroom to get two towels, one for her and one for Gwen.

 

Gwen met Asuka on the second floor and took one of the towels from Asuka and paced it around her shoulders as did Asuka and they begain to make there way downstairs when the doorbell rang.

" Could you get that? " Misato called out as she opened the fridge to get another beer and Gwen called out to her, " Sure, me and Asuka are going swimming in the lake ok? " she said as they made there way to the front door, " Ok have fun you two but be sure to be back in a few hours for dinner ok? " Misato called out as she made her way into the livingroom to watch some tv, " Ok Misato we'll be back in two or three hours. " Asuka called out as she reached out to open the front door and when she opened the door there stood Touji and Kensuke.

" Well if it's two of the four stooges, what do you want? " Asuka said in an acid laden voice as the two boys looked them over for a moment, " Is Shinji and Drake here? " Touji asked with a slight snarl in his voice at the attitude that Asuka was giving them and he felt the need to vent some spleen as Kensuke filled himself up on some eye candy called Gwen, " After all what would we want with you two old hags! " Touji added and smiled as he saw the looks of outrage agree on Gwen and Asuka's faces and before Gwen could say a word Asuka grabbed her by the arm and elbowed there way past Touji and Kensuke as they made there way to the lake leaving Kensuke and Touji standing there as Kensuke turned and was watching Gwen's retreating form with a lusty gaze.

 

" Oh hello boys. " an all to failure voice said and Kensuke turned to see Misato standing in the doorway of the house and out of the corner of his eyes he saw Touji standing where with a sappy smile on his face and for a moment Kensuke thought he saw the thread of drool handing from his friend's mouth.

" Hello Misato. " Touji said as he gave the older woman that he often dreamed about a lost puppy dog look as he ran his eyes up and down her body that was clad in a small low cut black t-shirt that was quite tight around the chest area and a pair of cut off Jean shorts that hugged her lower body like a boa constrictor with a cat in it's coils.

" So what did you boys want? " Misato asked as she leaned forward a bit to flash the boys a lover view of her cleavage just to be a tease and was rewarded with the sight of Touji's eyes that became four times there normal size and Kensuke who had a look on his face that told Misato that his nose was about to erupt in a geyser of blood.

" Well..umm we came to see Shinji and Drake are they home? " Kensuke stammered as he managed to tear his eyes away from the lovely valley between Misato's breasts and look her in the eyes as Touji's jaw doped a few inches lower then it had been when Misato had first given them an almost unrestricted view of her cleavage.

" Yes there home, say have any of you noticed anything strange with Shinji? " Misato asked as stood back up for she had noticed that when Shinji had come home from school yeast he seemed out of sorts and dispute her best effort to get him to spill the beans he just clamed up and kept to himself and she knew that if the boys knew what was wrong with Shinji she would not get any answers from them if she kept them distracted by flashing them her womanly charms.

 

" Mm now that you mention it Shinji has seem kind of mopy and that why we came here to see him and find out what bothering him, right Touji? " Kensuke said as he lied to Misato for they knew full well what was bugging Shinji and gave Touji a kick in the ankles to get his attention, " Umm Shinji ya right where here to see Shinji. " Touji said in a spaced out tone of voice as he continued to visually molest Misato's breasts as Kensuke smacked himself in the head with his right hand as he felt embarrassed by his friend's lusty antics.

* If I did hurt Hikari no one could blame me for that, so why didn't take revenge? * Shinji thought to himself as he came to the end of track 25 and hit the rewind button and from much practice he hit the stop button at the start of track 25 then hit play button as he laid there on his bed with his mind racing in circles when Shinji decided to try some personal relaxation as he pulled one of his henati mangas from between his mattriess and was starting to undo his paints when he stopped because he knew the result would be the same as it had been all the other times he had sought some comfort in the act of self love, the sprit was willing but the flesh was weak and threw the manga book to the floor in disgusted despair and he begain to sob to himself as self loathing burst to the forefront of his mind and the world turned a sickening shade of gray all around him.

 

****** The Games Room ******

 

Drake decided to try his hand at a game of * Death Derby 5000 * and sat down in the mock driver's seat and step on the gas pedal as the heavy metal music dueled with the computer generated sounds of squalling tires and the roar of souped up car engines, five minutes later Drake's car was slammed into high wall and exploded into a ball of flames.

" Right you shit heads let's do this! " Drake snarled as he stomped down on the gas pedal to continue his game for he would be damned if he was going to be beaten by a hunk of plastic and wires but try as he might he could not seem to get the hang of the game and was wiped out once more by Bad Max's car but if there was one thing Drake it was that he was quite stubborn and he kept playing the game even though it was clear that he sucked at it.

Unknown to the slightly obsessed Drake there was a pair of eyes that was watching him as he wiped out his car in a tight turn that sent his car spinning out of control before he was destroyed by one of the computer generated opens and he cursed quite loudly at his ill luck.

 

****** Outside Of The Games Room ******

 

Rei had been planing on enjoying a long game of * Death Derby 5000 * to pass the time on her day off for she had finished her weekend homework that her teachers had given her and was opening the door to the games room but stopped when she heard a voice yelling and cursing quite loudly so she peeked her head into the games room and saw Drake sitting at one of the mock cars of the * Death Derby 5000 * game and for some odd reason she found herself unable to move from her spot as she continued to watch Drake try his hand at the game.

 

Rei was quite shocked by not only the volume of Drake's curses but by there content as well as the creativity of his curses, so much so that she failed to hear the doorbell when it rang nor Misato's voice that called up from the downstairs landing of the staircase as she continued to watch Drake with a deep interest.

 

" Rei do you know where Drake and Shinji are? " Misato called out to Rei after she had walked up to the second floor and saw the albino standing at the door to the games room but when Rei failed to answer her she walked over and tapped Rei on the shoulder and jump back a bit in surprise as Rei jumped at her touch as if she had been jabbed with a live taker as she let out a gasp of surprise.

Misato looked at Rei hint of ambushment as she saw the look sheepish look on Rei's face and could not but help to wonder what had engrossed Rei so much.

" What do you want? " Rei asked with a slightly defensive tone of voice as she felt her face turn a slight red for she felt like a little girl who had been caught with her hand in the cookie jar for some odd reason.

Misato could not help but to smile at Rei's unnecessary discomfort and asked her if she knew where Drake and Shinji where and just about laughed out loud when Rei lied to her by saying that she had no idea where Drake and Shinji where for her face had grown quite red as she spoke then Rei excused herself and made her way downstairs.

 

Misato could not help but to peek into the games room to see what had int rested Rei so much and smiled to herself as she saw Drake sitting at the same game that Rei had taken a liking to and her smile grew even more when she saw Drake slam his right hand down on the steering wheel in frustration and he cursed loudly as his car was wasted once more then decided to walk into the games room to tell Drake that Touji and Kensuke where here to see him and Shinji.

 

" Drake, hey Drake can I talk to you for a minute? " Misato called out and watched as Drake jumped slightly at the sound of her voice and she giggled slightly as the strangely shameful and surprised look on his face.

" What do you want? " Drake asked as he got out of the mock car seat and walked over towards her.

" Kensuke and Touji are here, they want to see you and Shinji, there waiting downstairs. " Misato told Drake who had a slightly surprised look on his face when he heard that, " Cool, I think Shinji is in his room. " Drake said and walked pasted Misato to make his way downstairs to greet his friends as Misato made her way upstairs to tell Shinji that his friends where here.

 

When Misato reached the third floor she knocked on Shinji's bedroom door and when there was no answer she knocked on his door once more this time a little louder and she waited a few minutes for Shinji to answer her but when there no answer a second time around she opened the door to his room and looked into the room and saw Shinji laying on his bed and from the look of misery Misato know that he was in a bad off way and she took a moment to look around his room for some odd reason and when she saw the discarded henati manga book Misato had a fairly good idea of what was bothering Shinji or so she thought but what she did not know was how to help Shinji with this type of a problem.

 

Shinji rolled over on his bed and saw Misato standing there at the door to his room and blinked in surprise then removed the earphones, " Misato what do you want? " he asked her and Misato gave him a warm smile that helped to disperse some of his depression, " Touji and Kensuke are here they wanted to see you and Drake. " Misato said to Shinji as she walked over to his bed.

" I don't want to see them, could you tell them that I want to be left alone? " Shinji asked Misato as he sat up on his bed and Misato sat down on the edge of his bed, " Shinji it's not good for you to mope around the house, besides think how they must feel about you after all you are there friend and they came to see how you are doing. " Misato said to Shinji as she looked into his eyes and saw the deep and troubled look in them and she took a moment to rack her brains to find a way to get Shinji out of his depression.

 

" I know Misato but I'm just not up to seeing anyone right now, I have so much on my mind I don't know where to start. " Shinji said with a slightly helpless tone in his voice that caused Misato's heart to go out to him.

" I know you have a lot on your mind Shinji but maybe spending some time with your friends and putting your troubles aside for awhile might help you to relax enough so that you can get a fresh approach on how to deal with what's bothering you. " Misato said to Shinji as she smiled even more for him even though she felt helpless because she had no idea on how to help him but she told herself that she might have to take stronger me suers to help snap Shinji out of his depression.

Shinji thought about what Misato had told him and knew that she was right but he just did not have the heart to go though with her suggestion as he put his SDAT aside for the time being and Misato knew that he was understanding what she was telling him but he had not the will to carry out her idea and the two of them remained there in silence lost in there thoughts.

 

As the long minutes seemed to drag on Misato felt herself becoming frustrated as her inability to help Shinji when a crazy idea came to mind that disgusted her but the more she thought about it the more it seemed like a good idea because her mind was telling her that what she was thinking about just might be the thing to help Shinji with his problems but she would have to make a damn certain that she knew for sure what is problem was and the only way she would be able to do that was to get Shinji to tell what was driving him up the wall.

 

" Shinji I'll tell them that your not feeling well but when I get back I want to have a talk with you. " Misato said with a firm tone of voice that told Shinji that Misato was not going to be put off by his need to keep what ever was bothering him to himself and at first he was going to rise a fuss about it but in the back of his mind something told him to keep his mouth shut, Shinji looked at Misato and nodded his head.

Misato got up off the bed and walked out his room and all the while she was thinking of a way to put her disparate plan to get Shinji out his depression in to prospective for it was such an immoral plan.

 

****** Outside Of the House ******

 

Drake saw that Touji and Kensuke where talking to themselves when he walked out the door of his house and for the strange looks on there face he could tell something strange was going on.

" Hey guys how's it hanging? " Drake said with a smile and came to a stop as both Touji and Kensuke gave him a very strange look that made it more then clear something strange was going with the two boys.

" Hi Drake how are you doing? " Kensuke asked with a strange smile that made Drake's skin crawl.

" I'm fine and what's going on with you two? " Drake asked in a guard ed tone of voice as he eyed the two of them as he felt the hairs on the back of his neck stand on end.

" Gwen said to Asuka who listened with interest as Gwen begain to tell part of her life's story to her.

 

" Why was that for didn't your parents love you? " Asuka asked Gwen who gave her a slightly pained look. "My parents loved they made sure I had everything I needed as well as best food clothes and they even hired a privet tutor for me but my father was always busy with his company and my mother was always hanging around with her rich friends, she would take me a long to meet her friend's children and I did get along with them but it seemed that nether of them spend time with me like normal parents would with there children." Gwen rolled over onto her side and propped her head up on her left hand, " When you are growing up in a rich family you have to act a cretin way and if you didn't you would be punished and to make matters worse all of my rich friends would ostracize anyone who did not live up to there standards so you had to toe the line or you where given the cold shoulder. " Gwen said to Asuka and watched as her friend thought that over for a few minutes.

" You know Gwen I can't really understand that, I only had a few friends when I was growing up most of the time I was always to busy studying to really go out and play with my friends and mom was always working on the German eva program and....." Asuka said but could not finish was she was saying as the memories of her troubled past slowly rolled though her mind and Gwen could see that she was becoming upset and she decided to dig into Asuka's past so she could help her friend for they at lest had one thing in common and that was a nearly loveless childhood.

Asuka was about to tell Gwen to drop the matter but found that she could not as she felt tears starting to from in her eyes as the bad memories continued to flow though her mind and Gwen saw that Asuka was become more and more upset as they continued to talk about there pasts and she got up from her spot on the ground and walked over to where Asuka was and sat down beside her.

 

" Asuka if you don't want to talk about this I can understand that but I think you should talk about it I can see that whatever it in your past is hurting you, I am you friend after all and I'll listen to what you have to say if you want to talk about it. " Gwen said as Asuka sat up on her towel and wiped away a tear from her eyes before she looked at Gwen and saw that Gwen was being truthful with her words and she broke down and started to cry, " My mom was in an accident with the eva she was working with and it drove her insane."

Asuka said though her sobbing and Gwen reached out and put a comforting hand on Asuka's shoulder as she watched as Asuka continued to cry.

" Shhhh it's ok, I'm here. " Gwen said as she felt a strange need to watch over Asuka who's misery was worse then her own and this disturb Gwen for she had always seen Asuka as a level head, strong willed person even if she could be arrogant and pompous at times and seeing her in such a sorry state was the cause of her tender feelings towards Asuka even though she did not know it at the time and try as she might Asuka just could not go on where her tale of woe so the two of them just sat there as they did the best to deal with the painful memories that life had dealt them.

" Shinji said with a ever so slightly raised voice so he could be heard though the thick wood of his bedroom door and watched as Misato walked into his room, shut the door and then sat down on the edge of his bed, " Shinji what has been bothering you, ever since you came home from school yesterday you have been hiding from everyone and it's starting to worry me. " Misato asked in a deeply confused voice as she found herself unable to look into Shinji's eyes for a second longer and looked away from him and this told Shinji that he had won the battle between them and he let go of Misato's head and took a deep breath before he told her about what had happened into the school's lunchroom yesterday from start to finish, not once did Misato interrupt him as she listened with and ever increasing amount of surprise at what Shinji had done in the lunchroom.

 

Once Shinji finished speaking Misato just looked at him and for a moment Shinji was no long just a young boy but a full grown man in a boy's body, " Shinji I don't know what to say. " Misato said and Shinji gave her a soft look, " All I ask is that you respect my wishes in this matter, it was not easy to forgive Hikari for what she did to me but I knew that she did not do it on purposes and if you had seen the state she was in over this matter you would have agreed with me that she had suffered enough for what she had done to me." Shinji said to Misato who was awed by the depth of his compassion for another human being despite what he had suffered because of Hikari.

 

" If that's what you want then I will do ask you ask and not harm Hikari but don't expect me to like it. " Misato said with a neutral tone of voice and Shinji nodded his head, " I understand how you feel about this but like I said Hikari did not do this to hurt me, she was reacting out of fear and that's why I'm asking you not to be hard on her ok? " Shinji said with a hopeful look on his face and Misato knew that there was no way that she could dene Shinji on this matter and told him that she would try to be fair to Hikari.

" Thank you Misato that means a lot to me. " Shinji said as he reached out and hugged Misato who returned his tender hug after they broke apart Misato knew that her plan to help Shinji had been wrong but at lest she now knew that had been driving Shinji bug shit and she vowed that she would help out in any ways that she could save for what she had planned for him before his admission.

Shinji could see that Misato was no longer interested in him the way she had been before he had told about Hikari and for some strange reason he was relieved by that fact and asked her to leave him been so that he could be alone with his thoughts and she got up off his bed and told him that if he needed anything to let her know and there was an unspoken agrement between the two of them that they could never be lovers and they where both comfortable with that, then Misato walked out of Shinji's room and shut the door behind her.

****** The Nerv Testing Chamber ******

 

Ritsuko was in a piss mood for she had been working on repairing the synchro testing chamber when the commander had called her to his office and she had a pretty good idea of why he wanted to see her even though she had a headache thanks to the nightmare that the repair job had become due to a mess load of burnt out wires and neural feed back chips so she gave order to the two repair technicians on how to go about fixing the equipment and gathered the things from her office for the *personal* briefing with the commander.

An hour later they had finished with there briefing and Ritsuko found out the hard way that her ass was to sore to sit down due to the through corn holing she had received from the commander so that only made her mood all the worse but what really got her goat was the fact that the two repair technicians had completely fucked up the repair work and they had to start all over again.

" Have you hooked up the Ar-23 feedback line to the Gz-44 main neural input jack? " Ritsuko called out in a terse voice as she flipped a few switch on the control board for the synchro testing chamber and saw the indicators were all in the red, " We're just hooking it up now. " one of the repair techs called out as he asked her partner for a 3/16th wrench to hook up the feedback line, " What a bitch! " his partner wispiered as he passed the wrench over to the first technician.

" What was that?! " Ritsuko called out to the two tech who cringed in terror at the roaring of her voice, apparently the one technician had spoken a little to loudly to his partner and the two teaches became a flurry of activity as they felt Ritsuko's hateful eyes bore into the back of there skulls, luckily for them the pain in Ritsuko's ass was lessening at that point in time otherwise she would have be very tempted to throw a few switches and send a few thousand volts surging though there bodies for that comment about her.

 

" Ok it's hooked up, try it now. " one of the techs called out as they surveyed there handi work and Ritsuko pressed a few buttons and let out a begrudging grunt of approval as four of the eight indicator light turned green, " About time you got this shit hep half assed fixed, now lets start on the secondary power relays! "

Ritsuko snarled at the two badly frightened techs who grabbed there tools and got back to work when suddenly alarms begain to come to life as sparks begain to shoot out of the side of the synchro tasting chamber and with a curse Ritsuko killed the power to the testing chamber.

" YOU FUCKING MORONS WHAT THE HELL DID YOU THINK YOU WHERE DOING! " Ritsuko screamed at the top of her lungs the two techs finished spraying the burning testing chamber with a set of fire extinguishers as a thick cloud of smoke hung in the air of the testing chamber.

Ritsuko let out a gasp of pain as she sat down in frustration at the stupidity of the two repair tech, having forgotten the pain in her backside and quickly stood up as she held her hurting ass and she vowed right then and there someone would pay dearly for the miserable day she was having as the two tech begain to pull out burnt circuit broads from the testing chamber.

 

Three hours later and a whole lot of cursing on Ritsuko's part the repairs to the testing chamber where complete, after having run the diagnostics on the testing chamber Ritsuko saw that all the indicator lights where in the green, Ritsuko then took her cell phone from her paints pocket and made a call as the two tech cleared out of the testing chamber as fast as they could not wishing to spend another second around the ill tempered Ritsuko who had just about drove the techs up the wall in frustration with her consistent brow beating as they did there best to get the testing chamber up and running.

 

****** The Living room Of the House ******

 

Misato was sipping her cold beer as she was watching a re-run of the three stooges, her all time favorite comedy show when she heard the phone ring and got up to answer it as Moe was grabbing Curly by the nose with a pair of pliers.

 

" Hello? " Misato said into the phone as she took a swig from her beer, " Misato you can bring Gwen and Drake in for the tests, we finally got the equipment up and running so we might as well get this done and over with! " and from the sound of Ritsuko's voice Misato knew that her friend was in a pissy mood and wondered what had happened to put Ritsuko in such a foul mood, " Well I can bring Gwen in for the tests but I have no idea where Drake is, he went out with his friends to have some fun in town. " Misato said as she finished off her beer.

Ritsuko did not like that bit of news one bit and she let Misato know that she was not pleased with that info

" Damn it Misato your suppose to keep the children close by in case of an emergency, not let them wonder off where ever they want to go, did Drake at lest tell you where he was going to be? " she said into the phone with such a pissed off tone of voice that Misato had to hold the phone away from her ear unless she went deaf.

" Now hold on a moment Ritsuko I can't keep the children cooped up in the house all the time you know it's not healthy for them. " Misato said in a slightly huffy tone of voice, " Besides don't you think it will be easier to deal with the children one at a time? " Misato added as she walked over to the fridge for another beer because deep down she knew she was going to need it.

" That's not the point what if an angel was attacking us, we would need all of the children present to defeat it. " Ritsuko said with an exasperated tone of voice as she twirled the phone cord around her fingers as the pain in her ass became a low throbbing and she decided to take a chance and sit down, luckily for her the pain did not increase in it's intensity and she begain to force herself to relax and as much as she hated to admit it Misato did have a point but she would be damned if she would admit that it Misato.

 

" Look just bring Gwen in then and I'll deal with Drake later. " Ritsuko said into the phone then hung it up and then made her way to her office for a much needed cup of coffee.

 

Misato shrugged her shoulders as she hung up the phone for Ritsuko was never usually short tempered with her save for when ever she got lost in Nerv and had to come and find her as she cracked open her can of beer and swilled some of it down before she walked out of the house and towards the lake to find Gwen and Asuka.

 

****** Somewhere In Tokyo-3 ******

 

" So where are we going? " Drake asked Touji and Kensuke as they found themselves wondering the streets of Tokyo-3.

" I don't know, I don't have any money with me so I guess we're stuck just wondering around. " Touji said as they walked past a knot of people that where crossing the street when Kensuke piped up, " I have a few yen on me we could got for coffee. " he said as they finished crossing the street, " Thanks Kensuke but I'm not the kind of guy to take money from my friends unless I really need to. " Drake said with a slightly guarded tone of voice after all he did not really know the two boys all that well as his pride told him not to accept Kensuke's offer after all he was use to getting by without the small things in life such as a cup of coffee or other things that people treated themselves to every now and again.

 

" Don't worry about it, you can always pay me back when you have some money or you can treat me to a cup of coffee later on. " Kensuke said with a friendly smile as the three of them continued to wonder about aimlessly and Drake thought about what Kensuke told him and decided that Kensuke was just trying to be friendly and he swallowed his pride for he found himself craving a good cup of hot coffee.

" Thanks Kensuke, when I get my pay from my eva piloting I'll be sure to square you away on it. " Drake said with a smile as he found himself starting to relax more and more as he hung out with Kensuke and Touji.

" Your getting paid for piloting you eva? " Touji said as they made a left turn at an intersection so they would end up at a coffee shop, " Shinji never told us that he was getting paid for piloting his eva. " Touji added and this caused Drake to give him a slightly guarded look, " Ya the commander himself said that me and Gwen would be getting paid for working for him as eva pilots. " he said to Touji in a mater of fact tone of voice as the three of them walked into a coffee shop.

 

After ordering there coffees which took a little bit longer to do then normal due to Drake's bare understanding of the Japanese linguae, Kensuke paid the casher and the three of them found themselves a table at the back of the coffee shop, both Touji and Kensuke failed to notice that Drake took a seat that put a wall at his back and they begain to talk as they drank there coffees.

" That hits the spot, thanks Kensuke. " Drake said as they sat there and Kensuke told him it was no problem.

" So where do you guys want to go to? " Kensuke asked his two friends as they nursed there coffee, " Well I don't know this city so I have no idea of where to go to waste some time. " Drake said and Touji suggested that they could go to the Tokyo-3 tower and Kensuke said that he did not have enough yen to pay the admission fee so they scraped that idea and continued to shoot the shit as they drank there coffees.

 

" Hey I know how about we show Drake around the city? " Touji said as he took a drink from his coffee and Kensuke agreed with that idea and Drake was all for it after all he had a feeling that it would behoove him to get to know the lay out of the city, so they finished up there coffees and made there way out of the coffee shop in better sprites as the sun shone down on them.

" This is Tokyo-3's public swimming pool- " Touji said as they came to a large swimming pool that was crammed with people enjoying a good swim on such a nice day " -it only coats 1.500 yen to get into it. " Touji added as they took a moment to watch the swimmers, namely to young girls in there swim suits before they decided to move on and walked up the street for an hour and a half before they came to there next stop.

 

" This is the citizen's park. " Kensuke said as they walked into the large park that had well trimmed lawn and small rolling hills and there where people scattered though out the park enjoying the day with there friends and family or having a small picnic under the shade of the trees that doted the park land.

" This is a great place to scope out the babes. " Touji said with a grin as they watched a few girls on roller blades speed past them as they continued to wander about the park.

" This park has a night life to it. " Kensuke said with a slight blush to his face and Touji chipped in his agreement to his statement, " Oh so? " Drake asked as the three of them wandered into a fairly secluded area of the park that had a stand of trees and high bushes around it.

" Couples like to come out here to make out. " Kensuke said and told Drake about the time he and Touji where playing a game of laser tag and they had come across a couple that where enjoying the pleaser of each other's company.

" I see. " Drake said with a leer as the three of them came to a large pond that was filled with fish and turtles,

" You have to be careful some times gangs like to hang out in the park. " Touji added as they three of them found a bench to sit down on and when Drake heard that he begain to remember his days as a member of a gang back in Canada but chased away those memories as he forced himself to concentrate on the here and now.

" I see does this city have a bad gang problem? " he asked Touji who told him that the gangs where mostly teenagers like them and that most of them just hung out together and rarely caused any trouble but that there where a few gangs that where into drug dealing and liked to rumble with other gangs and some times they would beat up and rob people that strayed onto there turf.

Drake nodded his head sagely for he had been in a few rumbles himself when he was a gang member and then the three of them just sat there and shot the shit for awhile.

 

****** Back At The House ******

 

Misato was walking towards the lake when she came across Gwen and Asuka who where heading back to the house to get changed back into there normal clothing and relax.

" Gwen get changed and come with me, Dr.Akagi called a few minutes ago and the testing equipment has been fixed and she wants to run you though a few tests. " Misato said to Gwen who had an apprehensive look on her face when she heard what Misato had told her, " What kind of tests is she going to do to me? " Gwen asked in a slightly fearful tone of voice as Misato did her best to enplane to Gwen what Ritsuko was going to do to her when Asuka volunteered to go with them for morale support and Gwen accepted her offer and the three of them made there way back to the house.

 

Once Asuka and Gwen where finished changing into there clothes they saw Misato was putting down some food for PenPen and then they made there way to the car, " Gwen you don't have to worry the tests won't hurt you, you might fell some pain when you are outfitted with your neural interface chips though but it's nothing to worry about. " Asuka said to Gwen as they made there way into the car with Gwen taking the front passenger's seat and Asuka getting into the back seat.

" I am worried that something will go wrong with test and I will not be able to pilot an eva. " Gwen said over her shoulder as Misato fired up the car that let out a low rattling sound that did not sound to healthy and begain to drive into the city, " Even if you get a low sync rate you will get better with practice. " Asuka said as they continued to make there way to Nerv H.Q., Misato had her doubts about Gwen being able to hack it as an eva pilot but she would do her best to help her out and told Gwen that if she did failed the test that she need not worry about getting into trouble for that and that she could always try again.

 

Once they reached Nerv HQ both Misato and Asuka could see that Gwen was a nervous wreck and did there best to assure her that things would be fine as they made there way though Nerv HQ and when they came to the testing chamber they saw Ritsuko standing in the testing chamber with a mixed look of lingering anger and boredom on her face.

" Hello Gwen are you sure your up to this? " Ritsuko asked as she gave Gwen a motherly look for she had seen the worry on Gwen's face and that reenforced her belief that Gwen was not going to be able to hack it as an eva pilot, " I'm ready. " gwen said as she eyed the testing chamber and a chill reached up her spine.

" Ok come with me then. " Ritsuko said and lead Gwen, Asuka and Misato out of the testing chamber to the infirmary, once they reached the infirmary Ritsuko told Gwen to have a seat as she got up some surgical equipment as well as two neural interface chips, " Gwen I'm going to freeze part of your scalp where I'll be making two incisions to implant the neural interface chips. " she said to Gwen who's eyes grew wide at the sight of the needle that was full of novocain and she nodded her head to tell Ritsuko she was understanding what she had been told and Ritsuko quickly injected the novocain into Gwen's scalp.

 

Once the novocain had been injected Ritsuko took up a scalpel and made two incisions into Gwen's scalp then waited for a moment for the slight amount of pain into Gwen's scalp to pass before she took up a pair of foresters and opened the one incisions and quickly placed one of the neural interface chips into the opening then she took up a small jar of derma-plast and a cotten swab and then smeared some of the derma-plast around the incision to keep the neural interface chip in place as it rested on Gwen's skull, the derma-plast would also cause the skin of Gwen's scalp to grow around the neural interface chip faster then if the incision was left to heal on it's own.

Ritsuko then took the forcepses and opened the other incision and implanted the other neural interface chip and then sealed the incision with the derma-plast, " All done. " Ritsuko said as she put the surgical equipment away then asked Gwen how she felt.

" It feels like there's a burning in my head. " Gwen said with some alarm as her body was adjusting to the intrusion of the neural interface chips, " Don't worry Gwen that's just the neural interface chips activating the use the body's bioelectrical energy to power them, it will pass into a few minutes. " Ritsuko said to Gwen with a slightly comforting smile that help to put Gwen's troubled mind at ease as she took out two lime green neural interface plugs and connected them to the neural interface chips in Gwen's skull.

" These will allow you to interact with your eva as if it was an extension of your own body. " Ritsuko said to Gwen who took a moment to look into a mirror that was in the infirmary's treatment room and smiled slightly as she saw that the interface plugs stood out of her head like a pair of cat ears as the burning sensation decreased slightly.

 

" Come on Gwen where going to outfit you with a plug suit. " Ritsuko said then Asuka piped up, " The interface plugs look good on you. " she said to Gwen with a smile that caused Gwen to blush slightly before Misato spoke to her, " Now that was not so bad was it? "and Gwen felt a little more at ease for she was finding out that there was not to much to fear from this testing so far as the four of them left the infirmary's treatment room and made there way down to a storage room where Ritsuko gave Gwen a light green and cream colored plug suit and lead her to the change and shower room so she could get dressed in the plug suit and while she was getting dressed Ritsuko asked Misato and Asuka if they had explained what would happen to Gwen when she went though the testing and when Misato and Asuka told her that they had not explained to her what was going to happen with the testing Ritsuko smiled grimly and told the two women not to explain it to Gwen, not because she was being cruel but Ritsuko wanted to see how Gwen would react though out the testing as she went though it without and fore warning.

When Gwen came out of the shower/change room Ritsuko saw that her plug suit was hanging limply from her body, " Gwen press the button on your left wrist. " she said to Gwen who did so and giggled slightly as the plug suit shrunk to fit her body like a second skin, " Hehehe, that tickles. " Gwen said with a smile as she looked herself over and was apparently pleased with the way the plug suit hugged her body and Ritsuko licked her lips at the sight of Gwen's body that looked sexy in her plug suit but shook off the momentary burst of lust and got back to the matter at hand.

 

" Ok Gwen this is a Mark VII eva entry plug, this is what you will be sitting in when you pilot your eva. " Ritsuko said as they entered the room with the testing chamber in it as it stood open to show the entry plug, " So climb on up and seat yourself in the entry plug, we'll be into the next room. " Ritsuko said as Gwen climbed up the ladder the was on the side of the entry plug as Ritsuko, Asuka and Misato left the testing chamber room and stood outside of the room where the control panel was and she could see though the glass window that gave them an unrestricted view of the testing chamber room.

" Hey what are these things for? " Gwen said as she got herself comfortable into the entry plug's seat.

" Don't worry about the controls for now Gwen, just sit back and relax. " Ritsuko said as she pushed a button that powered up the testing chamber.

" So far so good, begain entry plug insertion. " Ritsuko said as she pushed a button and they watched as the entry plug was inserted into the testing chamber that closed up once the plug was inserted.

" HEY IT'S DARK IN HERE! " Gwen said in a panicked voice as the testing clamber closed around her, " Don't worry Gwen there will be lights once we get the test started so just sit back and relax. " Ritsuko said as she looked over the read outs on the control panel, " Beginning LCL insertion. " she added as she pushed another button on the control panel.

Gwen was shivering slightly in fear for if there was one thing she hated the most it was the dark for it made her feel helpless and vulnerable when suddenly she hear what sound like water flowing into the testing chamber, " WHAT IS GOING ON GET ME OUT OF HERE! " Gwen screamed as she felt the liquid slowly creeping up her body and begain to claw at the walls of the testing chamber in a blind panic.

" Gwen it's all right this is just LCL it will oxygenate your blood directly as you pilot your eva you can breathing it, this is like being in a womb when you where a baby. " Ritsuko said as she heard Gwen's panicked cries for help as she battered at th side of the testing chamber, " I'M GOING TO DROWN! " Gwen screamed as she continued to beat futilely on the testing chamber walls.

 

Ritsuko, Asuka and Misato wished there was something they could do to help the terror stricken Gwen but they knew deep in there hearts this was something that Gwen would have to endure if she was going to become an eva pilot, " LCL insertion complete. " Ritsuko said as she pushed another button that would activate the lights in the testing chamber and she hoped that they would help to calm Gwen down who was gasping for air as the LCL filled her lungs.

" She's going to hyperventilat. " Misato said as they saw the video feed from inside of the testing chamber that showed Gwen gulping like a fish out of water with a look of naked terror on her face.

" GWEN! GWEN CALM DOWN NOW! " Ritsuko shouted into the microphone as they saw Gwen's chest heave in and out then without warning they watched as Gwen puked her guts out filling the testing chamber with the chunky bits of her breakfast as Ritsuko did her best to calm Gwen down as the LCL purifiers filtered out the vomit from the LCL and Misato and Asuka could see on the control board that Gwen's heart beat and respiration where dangerously high.

 

Ten minutes later they managed to calm Gwen down, " This stuff tastes like blood! " Gwen said in an uptight voice as she did her best to relax as Ritsuko told her that she would get use to the taste, " Now Gwen just sit back and relax and everything will be fine. " Ritsuko added as she pressed a button on the control panel.

" Beginning synchronization in three, two, one MARK! " Ritsuko said as she watched a gauge on the control panel begain to creep upwards, " 8.09, 8.23, 9.01, 10.65. " Ritsuko said as she watched the synchronization gage read higher and higher as Gwen forced herself to relax.

" 11.06, 13.04, 14.09, 15.07 and holding steady at 15.23. " Ritsuko said as she, Asuka and Misato watched as Gwen sat in the mock up of the entry plug and saw that she was breathing normally with a slightly harried look on her face.

" Gwen I'm impressed you have a very high synchro rate for your first time in an entry plug. " Ritsuko said and it was true for Gwen had reached the minimal synchro rate to pilot an eva.

" How much longer do I have to do this for? " Gwen whined as she wished for nothing more then to be back home with a nice hot cup of tea as she fought down the urge to heave up her lungs once more.

" That's all for today, once I have drained the LCL I'll eject the entry plug and you can hit the showers. " Ritsuko said as she pressed a button that would drain the testing chamber of the LCL.

" You might feel a strange sensation as the LCL is draining from the entry plug but it's nothing to worry about. " Ritsuko added as she begain to shut down the testing chamber, once the LCL was drained she ejected the entry plug and watched as Gwen turned her head to the right and vomited up the lung full of LCL as her body was adjusting to breathing air once more.

" Gwen are you all right? " Asuka asked as she, Ritsuko and Misato entered the testing chamber room and watched as a drenched Gwen sat in the ejected entry plug and was shivering in the cool air of the testing chamber room.

" I never want to go though that again! " Gwen said with a voice that told them that she had detested the whole experience, " Gwen you'll have to get use to this if your going to pilot an eva. " Misato said as she, Asuka and Ritsuko awaited the answer to that statement knowing full well that this was the crunch, if Gwen could not handle this experience then there was no way on earth she was going to be able to hack it as an eva pilot.

Gwen just gave Misato a dirty look and said nothing as she climbed down the side of the entry plug and shivered even more when she reached the ground, " Look Gwen why don't you hit the showers, you can leave the neural interface plugs in your locker, but think this though you have the potential to be a great eva pilot. " Ritsuko said as they made there way to the shower/changing room, once they got there Gwen entered the room leaving Misato, Asuka and Ritsuko standing there and from the look on Gwen's face the smart money would be on the fact that she was not going to go though that experience again.
