Chapter Two: The Discoveries

"Oof...." muttered Misato Katsuragi, third in command at NERV. "What a headache. I'm pretty sure I haven't been drinking on duty, so what's with the headache?"

"I'm not sure, Major" said the med-tech. "There is signs of mental trauma, but everyone else I've examined has exactly the same type of mental trauma as you."

"Whatever..." Misato's cell phone suddenly rang, startling her. "Katsuragi... OK... OK... I'll be right up." she hung up. "Am I fit for duty or not, because something's come up"

"You're fine Major" replied the med-tech "but if that headache get's any worse, come back here immediately"

"Affirmative" called Misato as she walked out the door of the med wing.

"What's up" asked Misato as she walked into NERV command.

"We've found the three pilots" replied Maya Ibuki, a command center tech "they were found in comas, all three of them. They were taken to room 107 of the aboveground NERV hospital."

"Anything else?" questioned Misato "cause it sure seems that you're keeping something from me."

"You're right, Misato." said Maya " while the EMTs were taking the pilots to the hospital, Shinji reportedly sat bolt upright and yelled one word"

"And the word was....?" prodded Misato

"'Asuka.'"

Toji Suzuhara was nervous. He was about to call the class rep to tell her what happened to Shinji and Devil Girl. And Ayanami too. Couldn't forget about Ayanami.

"Hello?" Hikari Horaki answered the phone

"Hey, class rep" Toji said dully.

"Oh, hi Toji!" squealed Hikari "What's up? You sound pretty down."

"You'd be pretty down if one of your friends was in a coma. In fact I'm surprised Aida hasn't called you yet." Toji mumbled.

"Toji, what the heck are you talking about, 'one of your friends in a coma'. Phhhht!" Hikari retorted.

"Shinji, Devil Girl, and Ayanami were found in the Geo-Front at about 11:30. They were all in comas." Toji muttered "Listen, go over to Misato's at six, tonight. She wanted to talk to us."

"Us as in....?" Hikari asked

"Us as in you, me, and Aida." Toji responded rather dully. "See you then. Bye"

"Um... bye, I guess" Hikari answered, sounding bewildered

"Thanks for coming, you three." Misato said at about 6:10. Aida had been late. "You probably are wondering why I asked you to come here. I wanted to explain some stuff."

"Like what?" probed Aida.

"Like why Shinji and the others are in comas" responded Misato "among other things. God, I need a beer!"

Just at that second, Pen-Pen waddled into the room, and squawked when he heard the word "beer".

"Ok, ok Pen-Pen. I'll grab us some beer. You three want something?"

"No thanks!" they all chorused.

After Misato chugged some of her beer, she continued. "Well, for starters, we don't know exactly why they are in comas. I dunno. Mebbe something with the failed Third Impact. Who really knows. Well, This part you three might find a bit more interesting." she chugged some more beer, and continued. "While the EMTs were transporting the three of them to the hospital, Shinji reportedly sat bolt upright, and yelled 'Asuka!!'. Scared the piss out of the driver. Nearly crashed the ambulance. Any way, what do you think?"

"Why'd he yell for Asuka, anyway?" asked Toji. "I thought he liked Ayanami."

"Ahhhh.... right. You three were never told. Don't know why... It was never classified. Well, anyway, Rei is a clone of Shinji's mom."

"Oh yeah!!!" cried Hikari. "That's right! Asuka once told me that he'd told her that he felt Ayanami was piece of him that was torn away from him a long time ago. That explains it now!"

"Ok, that makes sense, but there's something more." Misato continued again. "When the docs got Rei's blood work back, they were really confused. Apparently, Rei's genetics are now a combination of... and get this, Ritsuko Akagi and Yui Ikari. Weird, huh? Not a trace of Angel DNA"

"Weird is one way to put it." said Toji. "Any more surprises, Misato?"

"Nope!" replied Misato cheerfully. "Sounds about correct! But the doctors also said that Rei was getting some color in her face, and her hair was turning a darker shade of blue.

"Ok" said Aida "well, I've got to go, but mebbe we could swing by the hospital tomorrow and see them? Is that ok, Misato?"

"Sounds good to me, Aida!" responded Misato. "Come by here at about 11:15 and I'll take you guys there."

"Sure, why not?" said Toji.

"Definitely" exulted Hikari.

"Fine by me" replied Aida.

"OK! I'll see you guys tomorrow, then. Bye!"
