Author's note: Well, this is chapter four. I probably would have gotten it up by today (11/27/03), but I have had writer's block. I also have been working on a Christmas fanfic based about a year after "The Children".I apologize if any characters were OOC, but I don't have any pre-readers, so.... you get the picture. Also, some people (me) have had problems accessing chapter 3 on the site, but the thing says people have visited chapter 3, so I guess it's just me. If you want copies for your hard drive, put yer e-mails down on your reviews, and say you want a copy of your own. Author's note, pt 2: later in the chapter, Rei is living Misato's apartment because it made sense. The way I figure it, Super-Bastard Gendo ordered it so Misato could watch over the pilots better. I figure it happened around ep. 20 something.

Chapter Four- Awakenings... Again!!

As Shinji Ikari regained consciousness for the second time that day, he wondered why Asuka had slapped him. *Who knows?* he thought. When he opened his eyes he saw many people looking at him. Misato, Rei, Aida, Toji, and Hikari stared back at him. Then, the calm before the storm disappeared as quickly as bento into Toji's gullet.

"SHINJI!!!!" came one of the loudest screams he had ever heard, as a figure with purple- black hair flew at him. As Misato yelled out various things in her joy, Shinji was choking from the force of Misato's hug.

"Misato... good to see you too..." Shinji said in a strangled voice "...don't see me trying to choke people..."

"Misato, you better let go before he passes out again" giggled Hikari "He's already turning blue."

"Ok...." pouted Misato, reluctantly letting go.

"Hey, where'd Asuka go?" asked Shinji, sounding confused.

"Oh, I took her back to the apartment a few hours ago." replied Misato "I thought she needed to simmer down a bit, and the doctors thought it was ok."

"Ok..." Shinji muttered. "When can I get out of here, then?"

"The docs say that you're good to go." Misato said, sounding extremely happy.

"Hey, Shinji" Toji called from the back of the room "are you going out with the She-Devil?"

"Toji!!" Hikari slapped him in the shoulder.

"Ok, ok." Toji muttered. "Well, are you?"

"Well..." Shinji pondered the question. He didn't know how Asuka felt. But if how they were before the failed Third Impact was any indication, they were going out. "I'll get back to you later on that, ok?"

"Ok..." Toji grumbled disconsolately.

"All right, let's get out so Shinji can dress in peace" Misato commanded, switching into tac-com mode (tactical commander, for the militarily challenged).

As Shinji dressed, he wondered why Asuka had slapped him. Was it because she was worried about him? *Well, I can think about it later*

When everyone walked outside, after Shinji and Rei had been discharged, they all looked around for Misato's blue sports car. They didn't see it, but spotted a black minivan with the NERV logo on the sliding doors.

"Hey, Misato, where's your sports car?" asked Shinji, sounding confused.

"Oh, right!" Misato said "After I dropped Asuka off, I called the motor pool to borrow this... monstrosity" she said the last bit with more than a little bit of revulsion. "If I was driving all of you home, I didn't want to have to cram you into the back seat. It messes with the balance"

"So what happened to the sports car?" Toji inquired

"The guy who drove the van to the apartment took my sports car back to the motor pool. He said I could have it back when I returned the van. It probably was Ritsuko's idea, as an insurance thing." Misato glowered.

The trip home was quiet because Misato was miffed at the idea of her car being used as insurance that the van was returned safely.

When Misato, Shinji, and Rei walked into the apartment, they found that Asuka had fallen asleep watching some pre second impact show, called "Digimon". One of the characters onscreen, a small yellow-orange dinosaur, yelled "Pepper Breath". Shinji quickly turned off the TV.

"Hey, Misato." Shinji said "I'm going to bed. I'm exhausted."

"OK!" replied Misato. "Do you want me to wake you up for dinner?

"Not if you're cooking!" Shinji laughed. Everything was as it should be. Or so he thought...

In the mind of the Second Child

"Mama, Mama" cried a younger Asuka Langley Soryu, about eight years old. "Guess what? I got picked to be a pilot! I'm going to pilot a giant robot, called an "Evangelion" She pushed open the door... and promptly gasped. Her mother was hanging from the ceiling, having hung herself with some 550 cord (550 cord is high quality nylon rope, used by the military). A doll with no head lay near Kyoko's feet.

"Oh, shiest." the present Asuka muttered "Not this again. I thought I'd dealt with this already"

"Oh, you did" said the younger Asuka, as the room turned into a train car. "But that coma that you were in did a number on you."

"Ok, but do I really have to go through this shit again?" present Asuka asked, sounding pissed.

"Not really" said her young self gleefully "But I guarantee that either way, you wake up screaming."

She was right.

The "Real" world

While Rei was preparing dinner, Misato was sitting at the table drinking her third Yebisu of the evening. When Asuka sat up, screamed, then woke up, Misato was scared sober. Literally. (Note: anyone who knows anything about Eva, knows that when Misato is drunk, have an idea how hard it is for her to get scared sober) As Asuka sobbed into her hands, Rei and Misato just stared at her, completely bewildered. Luckily for them, Shinji had woken up and was in his comforting I've-got-you-don't-worry-I'll-protect-you mode, which included him holding Asuka in a tight embrace and trying to calm her down. (That mode of Shinji's has a spine)

Shinji didn't even notice that Rei and Misato were there until he started to french with Asuka. The only reason he noticed them was the fact that their jaws had dropped straight to the floor with a loud *Thunk*.

Downstairs, an elderly man heard the sound of some things hard hitting the floor. He just dismissed it as some noise picked up by his hearing aid.

Back upstairs, Rei and Misato were staring at Shinji and Asuka so hard, that they both had sweatdrops the size of basketballs going down their heads.

"You... room... make out there..." was all Misato could choke out.

All Rei could say was a barely comprehensible "Oh my..."

*Quick! Gotta think of something to say!* was the thought that went through Shinji's head. *ahhh... screw this! Just keep kissing her!*

Downstairs, the same elderly guy hear several more loud *Thunk* noises. He decided to just ignore any noises from upstairs for the rest of the night.

"Ummm... Misato? Rei?"

"Uggghh..." was all that Misato could say.

"Smooth one, Baka" came the voice of Asuka. "I think she's too dazed to even think!"

"Come on, let's get her onto the couch."

This proved rather difficult, owing to the fact that Misato's body had gone completely rigid from shock. The two gave up really fast. "Ok, let's try to get Rei on the couch" This also proved impossible, because, if anything, her body had gone even more rigid than Misato's.

"Ahhh, forget it Baka!. Let them sleep on the floor. Let's go to bed." Asuka walked out of the living room, and Shinji followed her to their room.

A few Hours later

The doorbell of Misato's apartment rang. Misato snapped out of the trance that she was in, and got up to open the door. It was Kaji.

"Hi, Kaji" Misato said dully.

"What's up with you?" Kaji asked "Someone kill Pen-Pen?"

"No, nothing like that. Just something very surprising."

"What do you mean... What the hell happened to Rei?" Kaji asked sounding confused

"I'll tell you later. Just help me wake her up." Misato said "I've been like her for a few hours."

"What do you mean?" Kaji inquired, still sounding confused.

"Follow me" Misato commanded

They walked down the hall to Shinji and Asuka's room (Kaji didn't know it was Shinji and Asuka's room. He thought it was just Shinji's). Misato opened the door, and downstairs, the third round of *Thunk* noises that day (or night) was heard. Kaji had just fainted at the sight of Shinji and Asuka sleeping together in a tight embrace. It several hours for Misato to wake Kaji up.

Author's notes, pt 3: Ok, ok. You all may be wondering why Kaji showed up. I figure that he wanted to see how the pilots were doing. Well, chapter five will have the Pilots and friends going to the mall. C ya then! ---- L33tfic
