His Shido was relentless. Cain admired the youth for that. Every evening, without fail, the lovely boy exited the house. Even in the driving rain that made Shido look like a very sexy drowned rat. Too bad the boy never redonned the outfit Cain had first seen him in. And Cain thought that was a real shame. Shido had looked thoroughly alluring as a prostitute. He thought the boy should show much more of his beautiful body.
Only this night, when Shido left his house, he was wearing something Cain had never seen before. He seemed almost overdressed. Overdressed, yet totally elegant. Looking more like his intended mate than normal. Proving that even lordly clothing would make his Shido too attractive for words.
It became quite obvious that the boy wasn't going to the bars tonight. Not dressed like that. Then the question was where? Where was his Shido going, looking like that? It made him wonder about that officer from the first night. And wonder if the people he'd asked had told him the truth. Perhaps the boy was attached to someone else. Because Cain couldn't see any other reason for a man to dress like that. Surely, Shido had chosen that outfit to impress his lover.
The way the boy walked seemed to indicate that Cain had guessed right. There was a slight bounce in Shido's stride and a satisfied smile upon his face. That silvery flow of hair was even out of its usual ponytail. So to give his lover better access to it, Cain supposed. He knew he wanted to run his fingers through that soft mass.
Shido passed by Cain without noticing him. He had no idea that the blond was even following him. His only indication was the strange creeping feeling shooting down his spine. He hated that feeling. It reminded him of his dream. It made him feel as if something were watching him, waiting to jump at him. But he knew it was just his imagination. He was just spooked from trying to track down a killer.
Not that he'd let Mr. Lusk or the police know. Last thing he wanted was for the police to know he was afraid. First of all, one specific Constable would get all over protective of him. And for another, they might withhold things from him because they might think his fear would rule, making him unfit. Thus the reason for dressing the way he was. Dress to impress, because he was going to see Mr. Lusk and Constable Abberline. He was going there to update them on his progress, or lack there of.
He neared their meeting place, and nervously adjusted his suit coat. He always got nervous around that small, cozy restaurant. Shido opened the door to practically be tackled by a smaller, robust man. “Detective! So good of you to come. And on time for once!” Then the man squashed him into a giant bear hug.
He returned the hug lightly. “Hello again, Mr. Lusk.” He didn't bother to take offence to the fact that the man grabbed his arm to drag him inside. The Chairman of the White Chapel Vigilance Committee was like that with everyone.
“How many times must I tell you? Call me George, Shido.” The man pulled him further inside unaware of two men seething quietly in the shadows on opposite sides of the room.
Cain's anger being much worse. This short, fat man just couldn't be the one. But he'd seen the hug. He'd seen his actions, and they spoke volumes. The way Shido reacted to the man didn't help either. His angel was bending to this dowdy, pathetic excuse for a man's every whim.
Cain could feel his rage building. How dare he touch Shido? The youth was his. The submissive actions, the looks Lusk was getting from Shido weren't meant for him. Nor was that perfect body. No. Shido's chosen lover was far from worthy. Cain would make the beautiful youth see that. He was also going to take great pleasure in gutting Mr. Lusk. Cain would make him suffer slowly, for ever having the nerve to touch what didn't belong to him. And he was going to start right now.
The exotic blond swept out of the shadows, heading towards where the little lovebirds were going. Following the unmistakable shimmer of silvery hair. Edging closer to where they'd decided to sit. He didn't want Shido's attention just yet.
“You see, Mr. Lusk… Constable… That's all I've really got. But I'm sure if I keep looking I'll be able to find him.” Shido's soft voice cut his forward motion, and he breathed a quick sigh of relief. His anger slowly diminishing. This wasn't a date at all. His beautiful detective was still on the job. He even sat on his side of the table. Opposite of the constable with a serious look on his face.
The men on the other side seemed to be contemplating something. The officer's look going softly gentle when he watched Shido speaking. Quietly, he put a hand against Shido's, just barely touching him. “You've been at this for well over a month now. I know your trying very hard. But you seem to have nothing new from last time.”
“But... but Constable. The description of the man I saw leave with the last victim.” Shido managed not to pout, but just barely. He knew the officer was a sucker for his pouting.
“I know you have a description. And I'm so proud of you and the work you're doing for us. I just loath saying this. That description fits way too many people.” Again, the subtle touch.
“What are you getting at? I'm sure if I just work a little harder, stay out a little longer, I can find him again. How hard could it be?”
“I think what Fredrick is trying to say is were going to have to stop investigation soon.” Lusk interrupted what seemed to becoming a personal moment between the detective and the constable.
Cain watched the goings on in interest. The interest wavered between the not so subtle dance of quiet seduction the officer was trying to do with Shido. And Shido's complete and totally ignorance of the fact. His interest peeked when Shido suddenly scooted his chair back, and his hands slammed down on the table. His breathing ragged “You can't say that! Don't you see? If we were to stop now, then all those girls... All those lives would have been taken in vein!” It seemed that under all that silken beauty, his Shido had a very fiery passion. It made him flare up, hot and bright. It made Cain want the young detective even more.
The constable stood to try to calm the boy. Gently going behind him to lower him back to his chair, hands lingering just a second too long for Cain's comfort. “We do understand, Shido. We do. We just can't spare any more manpower. We're spread frightfully thin as we are. And the Yard has other things to worry about. And we could use your expertise in other venues. I promise we won't pull the case right away. I can give you a few days to wrap everything up.”
Shido sat in silence, watching the officer return to his seat. If the men had seen the impish sparkle in his blue-green eyes, they would have regretted ever making such an offer. “Can I have eight days?” And then a totally gorgeous pout.
Cain's lips twitched into a smile. Shido had such a petulant pout. And he wanted to kiss it away. But despite the pout, his detective was trying to buy time. It seemed the youth cared much for his duty. And it seemed he knew how powerful that pout could be. It seemed his Shido had a level head on that delicious little neck.
The constable seemed to melt in his seat. “I…I can't give you that much. I can give you four. Can you use that, Shido? Would four be fine?”
“Four days it is then. Thank you, Fredrick.” He stood, leaning to give the man a soft kiss on the cheek. Again, rage welled inside of Cain. He'd assumed right, but about the wrong person. The threat was the trim, fit officer. Then Shido gave one to Lusk as well, proving that it had been a brotherly gesture for the both of them. But that didn't quell Cain's rage.
“You're welcome, Shido. Very welcome. I hope you find something.”
“So do I. Good-bye Mr. Lusk. Fredrick… I'll let you know when I do.” He waved and dashed towards the door, not looking back towards the happily smiling Lusk, and the wistful look on the constable's face.
Cain knew his angel would be back to hitting the bars soon. And he would follow. But first he had something important he needed to take care of. Lusk had already left, and the constable was getting ready to go back to work himself. Cain saw an opportunity and seized it.
“Constable Abberline.” He stated coldly, positioning himself in front of the man. Not surprised that they were almost of the same size. It seemed that his Shido attracted a certain kind of man.
“Do I know you?” He asked the blond.
“No. But I have a request for you. It's of the greatest importance. I want you to stay away from MY Shido. You understand me. I don't want you to ever lay another finger on my darling detective.”
The man looked outraged. “YOUR Shido! I don't know who you are good sir, but I don't appreciate this line of talk. If Shido is anyone's, he is mine. And I'm not about to let some foreign riffraff take him from me. Tell me why I should even bother to agree to such a silly request?”
It seemed that the man was made of much sterner stuff than Cain had expected. “Why? That's easy, my dear Officer. Because I can't guarantee your continuing existance if you persist in trying to claim what's not yours.”
“Is that a threat? I don't think you understand. You can't scare me. And I'm sure your enthusiasm would be curbed after a night in prison.”
Cain leaned forward so his long hair fall, framing his face, and he snarled angrily. “I don't think you understand. You stay away from him. Far far away from him.” He was precariously close to bearing his fangs.
“As I said, you don't intimidate me. And I won't stay away from him. Now if you'll excuse me, I have better things to do than argue with a rival. Even one as eloquent as yourself.” The constable turned to leave, leaving Cain very very angry. He'd never met such an insufferable lout of a human. In Transylvania, the police would have bowed at the first word from him. “Shido is mine, officer. And I'm not going to let anyone ever touch him.”
For a second, the officer turned around and their eyes locked. Then Cain was suddenly gone. He loved doing that to humans. Showing them that what they were messing with was something far more dangerous than their worst nightmares. He didn't feel bad for the shock on the man's face. He'd impeded in Cain's territory.
Thinking of which, Shido was most likely at a bar right about now. Waiting for someone to show up and make his Constable proud of him, most likely. He hoped his poor Shido would realize that he wouldn't have to do anything to impress him. All Shido had to do was be beautiful and alluring. And he did that well as it was. Though realizing this search of his was a wild goose chase would be nice too.
