Cain's room was dark and quiet. Not exactly warm. But he wasn't worried about Shido being cold. He was worried about what would happen when the boy woke. He'd contemplated carrying him to his own home. But that might bring questions Cain didn't want to answer. He didn't need to tell Shido's family that he'd fallen trying to run away from him. For right now, the boy was actually safer with him.

He was glad that the boy wasn't awake to see this place. Cain felt out of place here. This tiny priest's room was not at all like his palace at home. He wanted badly to go back there. Which made him wonder why he'd left. A master vampire didn't usually leave his grounds. But he'd gone to wonder the world. Out of loneliness, he supposed. None of the thralls, none of the lower vampires held any interest for him. And then he'd stumbled upon this human in a bar. And things had changed.

He was actually embarrassed that he'd been forced to stay here instead of in a ritzy place more to his liking and taste. But the priests here, they didn't question why he only left at night. Or why he never needed meals. It was safe for him here. Though, he wondered what those men would do if they ever found out they were housing a creature of darkness. He bet their holy establishment would crumble upon its very foundations if they ever discovered what he was.

As if was, he was grateful for the hard, too tiny wooden pallet of a bed, and a meager stub of a candle that he'd yet to light. He lit it now, after placing Shido down upon the bed. Smiling at the way the boy seemed to fit there, almost perfectly. The light of the candle making his hair seem like spun silver. And making the thin layer of dust and cobwebs all around the room far more noticeable.

He heard a knock on the door, and opened it a small way, to look out at one of the priests. “Oh. I see you back early, my son. I was just coming in to tidy up. I don't see how you deal with all that dust in there.”

“I like it, Father. It reminds me of what I was before I made my way into the world. There is no need to worry about me. Now, I'm sure you have a flock to tend to instead of standing here with me.” He shooed the priest off and sighed in relief. He didn't want the guy to come in and see the boy. The priest would probably take Shido away from him and to one of those butchers the English called doctors.

Which reminded him. Shido. Shido was still out. Still draped across the small wooden pallet, hair coming out of his ponytail. In a way, he wished the father had insisted to come in. Maybe he would be able to tell him when the boy was going to return to consiuosness. He had no way of telling when the boy would come too. Cain started to entertained thoughts of what he could do to the boy. He used this as an opportunity to exercise his willpower. Because he'd already sworn that he'd make the detective beg him first.

That didn't mean he couldn't touch the youth. He quietly shut the door, and slid the locking bar into place, to keep out unwanted intruders. Then he slid onto the bed as well, moving Shido just enough, so that the boy's head could use his lap as a pillow. Then he just gazed down at the slack face of his unconscious beauty. Lightly tracing the contours of the youth's face. His fingertips ghosting lightly over his chin, his nose, and finally soft silvery bangs.

He found himself mesmerized by Shido's hair. He loved the feel of it falling through his fingers. It felt like the softest silk. And Shido's skin, even softer than the richest velvet. He felt more than heard the sharp intake a breath. Cain watched as blue-green eyes opened and suddenly cloud with fear. He waited for the terrible moment when Shido would jolt away and the incrimination to come.

The boy tried to bolt upright, but the blond held him down. He put an arm across Shido's chest, preventing him from moving. Preventing him from struggling. The boy's breathing started to slow, and finally he spoke. His voice shook slightly. “Cain? Cain… where am I?”

“Home.” Cain answered softly. “You disobeyed me and went out without escort. And you collapsed from lack of sleep and over work.” He hated lying to Shido. He just really didn't want to explain what he was yet. But Shido had found out the hard way. So he supposed he'd answer if Shido asked. Really, what he was waiting for was for his beautiful detective to call his lie for what it was and break his heart.

“I'm sorry. I just had to… I had to find you, and when I did… when I did…” Shido seemed to be trying to come to grips with something. Cain could feel the slight tremble running through the youth. “I collapsed?”

“Yes, you did. You work yourself far too hard. I don't even know why you do it. In the right situation, you would never need for anything.” Cain breathed a quiet sigh of relief. It seemed Shido was going to believe him.

“I want to study somewhere else. Maybe in Europe. I want to leave this place, and learn medicine. And I want to come back and help everyone.” He explained. Cain found himself smiling at the boy's dreams. Such lofty goals. But so useless in the long run. Even if Shido did what he wished, he wouldn't change anything. The world would still be a dark petty little place, and it would kill Shido. Shido didn't belong in this world of humans at all.

The boy seemed to have calmed slightly, and just lay there, head pillowed by Cain. Quietly, he reached up and tugged at a lock of the golden mane. “You keep helping me out. Why is that?”

Cain wondered why Shido was wondering that so suddenly. “Let's just say I can abide the idea of you laying on the cold hard ground where anyone and everyone could find and harm you. I'd rather you be here while you slept.”

The boy turned his eyes away for a second. “I had this dream. It was terrible. I went looking for you. And I saw… I saw…” Shido was starting to shake again. “You were a monster. A demon.”

Cain gathered the youth up, so that the boy was on his lap and in his arms. He started to unconsciously rock him slightly. “Shhh.” He murmured, lips gently brushing the top of Shido's hair. “It was just a dream. A bad dream.”

“But it was so real.” Shido whimpered, unconsciously snuggling into Cain's embrace, arms going around the man, hesitantly. Slowly, shifting to look into strange honey colored eyes. “Cain, you aren't a demon, are you?”

The older man dipped his face lower and captured Shido's lips. Sampling the boy's mouth, lightly sucking on his full lower lip. Trying to get his mouth pried open to deepen the kiss. Shido's mouth opened slowly, allowing Cain entrance. His tongue rubbing experimentally against Cain's. Then the older man pulled away, to look down at Shido. To watch the delicate play of color across the boy's cheeks. To listen to his heightened heartbeat, and slight hitching of breath.

Quietly, the boy loosened his hands from their death grip on Cain's shirt. He looked down briefly. “You didn't answer my… mumph…” He was cut off by Cain's mouth once again. And he let it happen. Cain's kisses were nice. They were like the hurried kissed that Fredrick had forced upon him. They were slow, searching. Not at all urgent. As if Cain had all the time in the world. And Shido felt himself being swept away in the dark passion of Cain's kiss, totally taken away by the way the blond just dominated his mouth.

He felt himself being lowered again. He didn't fight, letting Cain bare him down to the hard bed, hands looping around the man's neck seeking support. Shido didn't know what is was about him, but every time he ended on his back, he ended with a larger, gorgeous male resting between his legs. That man deciding that the ribbon tie he wore was something he didn't need. And it seemed to feel right to be that way.

He could feel long elegant fingers sliding down his torso. So different from the constable's calloused hands. It felt as if all Cain had know was a soft, passionate, hedonistic life. And it also seemed that Cain was trying to induct Shido into that life as well. The boy quietly moaned into the kiss.

Cain fond the soft sounds Shido was making as sexy as the boy himself. Shido's flesh was so soft under his fingertips. His muscle structure was so delicate. He was actually afraid of hurtng the boy. But Shido was so needy and beautiful and wonton. Cain bet Shido didn't even realize that he was unconsciously rubbing against him, or that his leg had gone to grip at him, to bring their hips closer.

Carefully, Cain bit into Shido's tongue, changing the kiss. Letting the boy's blood make it much wetter and much more passionate. The silver haired youth groaned. The sharp sensation and the coppery taste in his mouth was strangely erotic. He was barely conscious of the fact that he was grinding his hips up against Cain's to ease the pressure building up.

Shido's blood was sweet. Addictive to the taste. It danced against his tongue, with a taste like fine wine. His own hips meeting Shido's with languid thrusts. The cloth of the pants making strange whispering sounds as they ground against each other. Slowly, Cain moved his mouth to hear the soft moaning of his detective. His mouth trailing down his jaw line, to feel the frantic beating of Shido pulse. It would be so easy to just partake. To bite down there and never ever let go. He licked the pulse point once, hearing Shido's voice. His name falling from the boy's lips sounded like poetry.

Then Cain was pulling away, laying soft kisses to Shido's lips, re-buttoning the boy's shirt, and retying that little ribbon, as if rewrapping a gift. He heard a soft whimper of loss from the boy. And he fought his want to just return to Shido and deflower him right then. He gave Shido a soft smile. “Rest, darling Shido. You're still very weak from your collapse.”

Shido reached out and grabbed Cain's arm, a petulant pout on kiss bruised lips. “Cain…”A little ribbon of crimson fell from the corner of his mouth. Cain couldn't help but lean in and lick the bloody trail. “Could you… could you stay here and hold me until I'm asleep?”

Cain sighed. There was no power in the world quite like that pout. He thought that Shido didn't even need the vampiric gifts, just so long as he had that pout. That pout could defeat many a strong man. Himself included. “Of course Shido. I'll stay right here. I'll hold you until you're asleep, and forever afterwards.”

Shido stifled a yawn, curling up into Cain's embrace. “Really? Forever and ever?”

Cain held the boy quietly, nodding. Forever and ever. For all eternity. Until the sun burned out of the sky and the entire world was night. He knew Shido hadn't seen the nod. The boy was already back to sleep. Helped along by a little push of power.

He stood, and picked the boy up into his arms. Now it was time to get Shido to his real home. An easy task for a master vampire. It took just a few seconds and just the tiniest flexing of what he was capable of to shift between plains of darkness. To go from his own room to that of the detective's. Glad that he'd been invited in that one time.

Reluctantly, he laid Shido in his own bed, arranging the covers around the boy, affectionately. Then he glanced over the sleeping boy. Shido really was too beautiful and tempting for his own good. And Cain had been right about his blood. He hungered for another taste even now. Instead, he decided to end the night with another taste of Shido's soft mouth. “I'm sorry, darling detective. But you are right about me. I'm a demon Shido. But I've fallen for you.” Then the blond vanished from the room, disappearing into the coming morning, mind heavy with thoughts of the beautiful boy he'd left behind.
