Shido felt himself lying on his back. He slowly opened his eyes. All around him was nothing, but darkness. Shido saw a softly glowing light only it was coming from his body. Shido didn't seem to realize that he was naked. He looked around. Where was he? Shido suddenly heard a soft sound… like… singing? It was coming from above. Shido looked up to see a silhouette of a human figure with wings hovering above him and coming closer. He felt a warmth radiate from the winged figure and wondered if it was an angel. Had he died? He couldn't remember. Suddenly he felt the weight of the angel on him and the comforting warmth. Shido felt it enter his body, the warmth becoming his own and the light coming from his body was nearly blinding now. Then there was a flash of light! Then nothing…

"Shido…"

Someone was calling his name.

"Shido… Drink…"

It sounded familiar… like from his past…

Shido felt something warm being pressed at his mouth. He opened his mouth as a hot, bittersweet liquid flowed into his mouth. Shido swallowed it. More was given and he allowed it to flow down his throat, feeding his hunger.

Cain smiled as he watched Shido accept the blood he was giving him. It had been a long time since Shido had accepted blood from him. After Shido had finished swallowing the third glass full, he nestled back into a sleeping position and fell back asleep. Cain smiled fondly at him as he brushed his bangs out from his eyes.

Cain sat up from the bed Shido was sleeping in, had been for the past three days now. When Shido had fallen off from the roof, Cain jumped off the building after him. He'd caught him before Shido had collided onto the streets and stole him away from Japan back to his castle in Transylvania, Romania. There, Cain had placed Shido in an unused guest bedroom and went to hunt down blood for his beloved. Shido would need blood and plenty of it if he were ever to recover. Unfortunately, there were more cows available in the area so Shido would have to live off of cow's blood until Cain would be able to find some human blood to feed him.

On the forth evening, Shido finally awakened while Cain was out hunting. The violet haired vampire sat up, feeling a slight headache from sleeping too long and looked around. This wasn't his office. It took him two full minute to realize that he was back in Cain's castle, which meant that he was back in Transylvania.

Shido looked up when he heard a door close.

"Ah. I see that you are finally awake," Cain said, cradling a glass of blood in his hand and a bottle in his other. He crossed over to Shido and offered it to him. Instead of rejecting it like he'd done in the past, not to mention he needed to feed, Shido took it from Cain and drained the glass before handing it back. Cain smiled and poured him another. Shido drained that one as well. "I see that your appetite hasn't decreased."

"I suppose I should thank you. Though I don't know why you did," Shido said.

Cain sat the edge of the bed next to him and took Shido's hand in his.

"Whether you choose to believe it or not, I still care about you very much, Shido. I've always have," Cain said before kissing his hand. Whether it showed or not, and Cain figured that it may have, he was very pleased; Shido was acting civil towards him and was not withdrawing from his touch. "Hmm. Your skin tastes as good as ever. Surprisingly since you've been feeding off that women from the N.O.S."

"You make it sound like she's bad for my health, Cain," Shido replied. This was very strange, normally he would be trying with all his might to get the hell out of here but for some reason, he didn't feel the need and very calm. He cocked his head to the side. "Tell me something, Cain?"

"Yes?"

"I've been wondering for years about this. Is Cain your real name?" Shido asked.

Cain looked at him with an odd expression before a smile found its place on his lips.

"No," he replied.

"What is it then?"

"I… cannot remember, Shido. It's been centuries since I used my birth given name so I've forgotten it," Cain replied.

Shido actually laughed as a thought entered his mind and looked away.

"What?" Cain was intrigued. He briefly wondered why Shido hadn't tried to run away from him yet. Perhaps he finally realized that it was time to put a stop to all these games and come to his senses that they belonged to each other.

Shido shook his head. "Just a thought."

"Tell me, Shido. I'm intrigued as to what's on your mind," Cain said.

"How appropriate," Shido began, "That you would name yourself after the very first vampire lord that walked on Earth, since you believe that vampires are the supreme rulers over the earth. I'm rather relieved that you didn't name yourself Vlad after 'the impaler' himself."

Cain sighed, sounding pained. "My dear Shido, Vlad 'Tepes' was not a vampire. He was a wonderful man and a great soldier, and all those horrible stories about him drinking blood or devouring his captured enemies was created by his enemies to portray him as a monster. Do not get actual fact and fiction of a deranged Irishman mixed up."

Shido held his hands up in defense. "Don't get angry at me. Get angry at Brim Stoker for using him in his novel."

"Oh believe me; I am. I despise Brim Stoker with a passion. I wonder how he would feel if one of his heroes was turned into a monster through a book. I doubt that he would enjoy that very much," Cain replied.

"I never gave it much thought," Shido admitted.

"I have books on Vlad 'Tepes' if you care to read more. I think you will find them interesting," Cain offered.

"I never care much for history, but I think I'll make an exception so I don't upset you again as you admire Vlad," Shido replied.

"I met his father once," Cain said absentmindedly.

'You must be very old then,' Shido thought. "Brim Stoker's?"

"No, Vlad's," Cain replied. Shido blinked. Cain laughed. "Now do you believe me when I told you that I'm older then you by centuries?"

"I've never doubted that you were much older then me," Shido retorted.

The blonde vampire smiled then a kind of regret spread across his face as he reached out and fingered a lock of Shido's shortened hair. While Shido slept, Cain had taken a pair of good sharp scissors and trimmed the back so that it was evened out, and no longer looked butchered.

"And you had such lovely long hair," Cain murmured to himself.

"I had a choice to make; cut it to free myself, or die and I choose the latter," Shido said. "You evened it for me." It was a more of a statement then question. "Thank you."

A playful smile found it's way on Cain's face. "Well I couldn't have you go around with an unfit hair cut, could I?"

Cain looked over his shoulder as his inner clock warned him that dawn was coming.

"Dawn approaches. I suggest that we retire," Cain said. He leaned in, cupping the side of Shido's face with his hand and kissed Shido off guard. Cain pulled away and said," I do love you, Shido."

'You may say that, but you never act like you do, and at times I wish you would,' Shido thought as he watched Cain depart.

Cain looked at him once more as if he had heard what Shido had thought before disappearing. Shido looked over at the window that was tinted black to keep the sunlight out. Every window in the entire castle was tinted. Shido looked at his watch. Unlike Cain who slept during the day, Shido didn't mind staying up; he was used to it actually.

"Only because my current job requires me to stay up at unusual hours," Shido murmured to himself.

He rose from the bed, finding that Cain had dressed him in a nightshirt. He easily found the bathroom as years of memories, of living here as Cain's lover once, came back to him. Finding that bathroom, Shido stripped to take a bath. About to turn on the facet, Shido suddenly felt the seams of his shoulders were itchy and his arms had a dull pain spreading through them. It was irritating. Shido looked around the bathroom to find something to ease the itching when the dull pain in his arms increased suddenly that Shido almost doubled over. It became unbearable that the violet haired vampire fell to his knees. He felt a horrible sharp pain tear through his back and heard a sickening ripping sound before he fell unconscious.

Hours later Shido slowly regained consciousness. He felt cold, hungry, tired and weak in all of his limbs. There was some kind of clear, sticky liquid and blood that covered all of his backside and most of his chest.

"What in the hell happened to me?" Shido murmured to himself.

Slowly Shido was able to rise in a sitting position on the edge of the bathtub built right into the floor. The need to clean himself was overwhelming as Shido shifted onto on of the bathtub steps and turned on the water. Once filled, Shido began a slow process of cleaning and afterwards he didn't feel so tired.

Draining the tub, Shido stepped out, wrapping a towel around his waist. Passing by a mirror, something about his reflection made him pause and look again. He screamed.

He had wings. Black feathered wings. How did that happen? Vampires didn't have wings. They weren't supposed too. How could this have happened? When did this happen?

Did this happen while he was recovering? It must have! This would explain the strange vision he has seen.

Did that mean… Had a Breed entered his body while he… No. For one thing, Cain would've carried him off before a Breed could have entered his body. Another reason was why would a Breed want to possess another Night Walker of the night since most breeds wanted human bodies to walk through the light?

Then this mean that what he thought was an angel really was an angel. But didn't angels appear to take those who were dying off the heaven not unit with them as this one had done with him? And why did he have black wings instead of white? Was the angel a fallen angel? Or was it because he was a vampire and the black wings had a symbolic background. Hmm. If an angel had united with him then why? Was he or she trying to save him from dying by becoming one with him? Was his time on Earth not over yet? This might also explain why he felt so calm around Cain. Perhaps it made sense not to get over excited with anger at the older vampire since it only made matters worst.

Shido looked at his…wings.

Well, he felt the same so perhaps having the angel unite with him wasn't a bad thing. Plus, as he looked at them, these wings were rather intriguing. It made him feel apart from other vampires.

Accepting them, Shido wondered how Cain was going to react when he saw them.

Shido looked back at his reflection and felt them withdrawing back into his back. It felt indescribably odd. With them…tucked away, Shido wondered how he could get them to come out again.

"Riho would probably want a pair," sighed Shido as he dried off.

Two years had gone by since he and Riho had ended their relationship as lovers. It had been Riho's idea since she no longer had intimate feelings for Shido. She'd 'out grown them' was how the younger female vampire phrased it. Riho lived on her own and sought for food on her own, but her new apartment was only a few minutes' walk away from Shido's office and she visited him quite often. Guni had gone with Riho by Shido's insistence so that someone would look out for her the way Guni had for Shido.

And neither one of them or Yaiyo, because she had been reassigned to another department, knew about his confrontation with the Breed almost four days ago, so they wouldn't know that he was missing. Somehow, that didn't bother him.

Shido doubted that the N.O.S. would give Yaiyo leave to take a trip to Transylvania even if she did know. He also doubted that Cain would let him go.

No, Shido knew that Cain wouldn't let him go. He also knew that Cain didn't have a phone so he couldn't call Riho and tell her where he was.

'Guess I'm stuck here for a while,' Shido thought. Shido kind of felt like that girl from that story Beauty and the Beast. He was the beauty and Cain was the beast only his former lover wouldn't turn into prince charming at the end of the story Shido mused.

Shido reentered the guest bedroom. He found a wardrobe full of formal men's clothing; that style dated back to England during the early 1800's.

"All in my size. How interesting. Looks like Cain was serious about taking me back," Shido said as he dressed in a medium-cream colored blouse with a ascot collar, a dark maroon vest that had a masculine, brocade scroll motif and a pair of black pants. The coat that went with the outfit was black, with side and back slits, gold buttons, and its collar and deep cuff matched the color and motif of the vest Shido wore. Pinned on the ascot was a gold brooch that had a maroon colored gem.

Shido left the bedroom and explored the castle, seeing nothing had changed over the years, but everything to him was renewed. Shido easily found one of his favorite rooms in Cain's castle: the music room. Pushing the double doors open, the violet haired vampire entered the large, elegant room. All of the heavy drapes and tinted windows prevented any sunlight from entering the room, so a large crystal chandelier hung in the center of the ceiling provided the only lighting. Shido walked over to Cain's old large and black grand piano, and pressed a few keys finding that it was kept tuned.

'Of course why wouldn't it be? When we were together years ago Cain would play this instrument for hours and I would listen,' Shido thought, sitting himself down on the bench and slowly began to play one of Beethoven's pieces. 'I can remember when he taught me how to play. He was a strict, but patient teacher and the outcome was worth it. Sometimes we would play a duet; Cain would use his large pipe organ and I would use the piano. Nowadays I don't have the time and I really miss playing the piano.'

Shido finished the piece before continuing his exploration of the castle.

In the dinning hall, Shido made an unpleasant discovery. Cows or rather parts of what used to be cows and bones all over the place. Shido was relieved to not find any human remains but still, this was like being in a slaughterhouse. In the middle was a pack of wolves feeding on the bloody meat. They all looked up noticing him. Shido swallowed as the alpha male licked his muzzle clean and growled at him. Then, Shido felt a wave of calm wash over him and he knelt down, extending his hand out to the wolf. The wolf walked over, growling softly. Sniffing his hand, the alpha male whimpered and pushed into Shido's hand. Smiling, Shido scratched him behind the ears as the other wolves walked up to him and wanted attention as well.

"I wander if Cain knows that he has wolves living in his castle. Then again, he's probably the one who keeps you all here," Shido said as a pup scampered up to him. Shido smiled and picked him up in his arms. The pup's mother rested her head in his lap, looking up at him. Shido smiled at her. "He's beautiful and has your eyes."

She barked, sounding please. Shido placed the pup down and stood up. The smell was starting to get to him. Leaving the room, the alpha male and his pack followed him. Shido pulled on a long hooded cape after searching for one. Tying it on and pulling the hood one, Shido opened one of the front doors and walked out to the courtyard rose garden with his new friends following him.

The day overcast with gray clouds and there was a gentle breeze. Shido walked to the rose garden, amazed the find it still in bloom even after all these many, many years. Cain appreciated beautiful things and Shido recalled once of hearing that Cain loved to collect beautiful things, that including him. At least Cain knew how to grew a rose garden that was pleasing to the eye. Shido knew that Cain usually hired a gardener to kept the castle grounds trimmed and neat, but the blonde vampire cared for the rose garden himself.

Shido sat down on a stone bench under a weeping willow tree. He watched the wolf pups play as their parents stood by, keeping an eye on them. The alpha male and female sat on either side of Shido.
