Chapter 5: New Kids
Sage's P.O.V
The loud shrill of the alarm clock sounded throughout the room, breaking Sage out of her peaceful slumber. Her hand lazily slid across the dresser beside her bed, finding the snooze button before slamming her hand down on it. She flung the sheet off her body before rolling out of bed.
Today was the first day of her senior year and she couldn't wait. She stripped off her clothes before jumping into the shower. Realizing she forgot her towel, she focused her powers, watching as a white fluffy towel floated its way into the bathroom. She smiled to herself before wrapping the towel around her body and strolled back into her room.
Sage comes from a family of very powerful witches. Now 17 years old, she is beginning to come into her powers. Upon reaching the age of maturity, 18, her powers will ascend and reach its peak, allowing her to become a full witch. Witches are mostly mortal, but if they are powerful enough they can grant themselves eternal youth and immortality. Although Sage is young, she has the potential to be the strongest witch of her generation, but she has a ways to go. Only at the beginning of her witchcraft, she is still honing her skill, mainly learning to draw on the four elements: Wind, Water, Fire and Earth. However, she has all of her senses down.
Walking over to her closet, she pulled out her outfit for school. Slipping on a flimsy red skirt and a white, off the shoulder, top, Sage looked her reflection over in the full length mirror. She was 5'6 with long, curly golden-brown hair and light green eyes with long, dark lashes. Her skin was smooth and creamy with a light tan; she had a perfect complexion which most girls would kill for. She had full lips and a button nose, with a small, diamond piercing in it. Her body was lean and fit, with curves in all the right places.
She smiled at her appearance, knowing she was beautiful. A car horn honked, drawing her attention to the window in time to see a black mustang pull up in her driveway. She smiled to herself before grabbing her bag and running down the stairs.
“Sweetie, aren't you going to eat?” her mom asked as she slipped on her shoes and opened the front door.
“Sorry, I'm late.” She replied before kissing her mom on the cheek and walking out the door.
She walked over to the car, opening the passenger door and ducking in beside her best friend, Mia.
“Senior Year, you excited?” the panther demon asked, smirking at her friend.
Sage pulled down the sun visor mirror to apply her lip gloss; she never used a lot of make up because she didn't need it. “Hell yeah, and I think Mark is gonna ask me out today,” she said grinning.
“Well that's good for you, but I need a fucking man and the guys at our school just aren't cutting it,” Mia replied with a shake of her head. Mia was picky when it came to the male population. She was, hands down, one of the sexiest female demons in the school. She had long, wavy mid-night black hair that reached the middle of her back and cat shaped red eyes. Her complexion was pale and smooth, making her features take on an exotic look. Her body was curvy and fit, like Sage. To say both girls could have any guy they wanted was an understatement.
“I wonder if there's any fresh meat this year,” Mia said a hungry look shining in her eyes.
“Yeah right, as if anyone could get in or out of this town without the mutt brothers' say so,” Sage sarcastically replied, rolling her eyes.
Mia laughed glancing away from the road to look over at her friend. “You better not let Scar hear you say that. You may be hot but you know he doesn't like witches.”
Sage snorted. “Like I'm scared of him, what's he gonna do? Hump my leg? Besides…what I may lack in physical strength, I make up for in my magic. So he can suck my southern hole.”
Mia threw her head back with laughter, how she loved this girl beside her. She was more feisty then most demon girls and had the mouth to prove it.
They pulled up into the school parking lot before stepping out of the car and walking to the building. The freshmen, never seeing them before, gawked as they walked by. Both girls were use to their popularity, it was nothing new, hell they even came to expect it. As they walked down the halls, searching for their lockers, they noticed quite a large commotion taking place amongst the student body, many looking in the direction of the main office.
“What's going on?” Sage asked a group of girls she knew, who were talking in hushed, excited tones.
“There are two new guys starting school today, everyone's talking about them!” the first girl, a cat demon, explained.
“Yeah, and apparently they're a total mystery and COMPLETELY fucking hot,” the human girl in the group replied. The other girls nodded and smiled in agreement, all of them anxious to meet the new guys.
Sage and Mia looked skeptically at each other. The only guys in this school that were usually referred to like that were a part of Scar's group, which wasn't really a mystery anymore. Mostly everyone in this town, humans and demons alike, knew who Kai was and what he and the others did for a living. Sage glanced around the hallway, noticing that everyone was, in fact, talking about the new kids. People haven't gotten this excited since Scar and his crew first rolled into town. Sage had to admit that her interest was sparked, and by the expression on Mia's face it was clear that hers was too.
“Where are they?” Mia asked curiously.
“Getting their schedules in the main office,” one of the girls replied.
“Oh, Sage, weren't we going in that direction?” Mia asked suddenly, shooting Sage a look.
“No I don't think— OW! “ Sage yelled when the heel of Mia's shoe smashed into her foot.
“Yes, we were. See you guys later,” she cheerfully called over her shoulder before dragging Sage with her by the arm.
“But I'm suppose to meet Mark by my locker,” Sage whined as she allowed Mia to drag her down the hall.
“Let him wait.” She said before bringing them to a halt in from of the office doors. They both looked up to see two guys standing side by side facing the front desk, their backs to the door. Sage took in their appearance from the back, which so far was very impressive. They were both roughly about the same height and build, and appeared to be demons. Sage noticed that their auras were strange and had no color, which is something she could decipher being a witch and all but didn't dwell on it. Maybe she needed more training.
The one on the right had spiky white hair, whereas the one on the left had bright red hair that was slightly shorter and not as spiky. The white haired guy had on dark blue jeans and a black leather jacket with ivory colored Timberlands on his feet. The red haired one was dressed in light blue jeans with what looked like a dark green dress shirt and black Lugs on his feet.
“It would suck if they were ugly,” Mia whispered, her eyes still on the mystery guys.
“Turn around, turn around, turn around…” Sage chanted quietly, hoping her magic could somehow will them to obey. As if reading her mind, both boys turned around to leave the office. Sage froze when she saw him, feeling Mia tense beside her.
“God I hope she's not looking at the same one,” Sage thought as her light green eyes met his pale blue ones.
Chase's P.O.V
“I'm sorry…Mr. Williams? But I'm afraid neither you nor your brother is listed in our system,” the secretary said with a shake of her head.
“Check again,” Kel said locking his gaze with the woman behind the desk, gone was his usual bored tone and replaced with a smoother, hypnotic one.
The woman nodded dumbly before looking back at the computer. “Ah, here you are! Chase and Kel Williams. Here are your schedules,” the woman replied smiling and handing them each a green sheet of paper.
“Thank you,” Kel relied before turning to face his brother's smiling face. “What?”
Chase's grin widened, “I love it when you take charge, I get all tingly inside.” He teased winking at his brother. Kel rolled his eyes, readjusting the bag on his shoulder.
Chase couldn't believe they were pretending to be some piss poor high school runts, he felt ridiculous holding the book bag Kel had pushed into his hand before leaving the house, saying something about “looking the part”. They were powerful demons that have been around since the dawn of time, and here they were, walking among acne covered, hormonal, weak, ignorant and self-indulgent creatures and pretending to be one of them no less.
Chase looked down at his schedule. Kel had suggested they actually go to the classes since the demons they were trying to gather information on were enrolled as seniors, so they did the same. This way, it will be easier to get close and find out what these fools did to disrupt the balance of this realm without using their powers or exposing themselves unnecessarily.
As soon as they pulled into the parking lot of this school, all eyes were on them and within minutes they were top news. They didn't mind the attention, nor did they care.
Suddenly, Chase heard someone whisper “Turn around,” before he felt himself actually wanting to do just that. He frowned before looking at Kel, who also wore a puzzled expression.
“You feel that?” Chase thought to his brother.
“Yeah, like a tug. Compulsion? Kel questioned in return.
“Na, it's not THAT strong,” Chase replied. His curiosity, though, got the better of him as he casually turned around, Kel doing the same. That was when he saw her.
“Damn…” he thought as his signature smirk appeared on his face, “She's hot.” He shot his brother a look from the corner of his eye, only to see that Kel's eyes were glued to the panther demon standing next to the girl that had drawn his own attention.
“What's this?” Chase thought mockingly, “The tainted demon hater has a tainted demon crush?”
Kel's eyes then shifted to Chase. “I don't know what you're talking about, let's go.” He mentally replied.
They began walking in the direction of the two girls, who were still shamelessly ogling them; Chase realized that the human girl was a witch, which explains the presence he felt. He then scowled at the thought. He didn't care if she was the hottest bitch on the planet, out of all the creatures he has come across in his entire existence, he hated witches the most, almost as much as Kel hated tainted demons. Witches were nasty little things, they weren't demons yet they weren't human either. He takes pride in the fact that he's killed every witch that has ever crossed his path, it was nothing personal, he just didn't like them. But, he had to admit, their blood was amazingly sweet.
As they approached the two girls, the witch faced Chase and started talking.
“Hi, I'm Sage. Welcome to—” Chase and Kel separated for a second before silently walking past each girl as if they weren't there. The brothers then fell back into step beside each other after passing the girls and continued walking down the hall, ignoring the shocked stares around them before disappearing from view around the corner.
Sage's P.O.V
Sage stood in the same spot for a few seconds, her face frozen with shock. The hallway was suddenly a lot quieter then it was before. Mia stood beside her, her mouth slightly agape in disbelief before composing herself once again. Sage snapped out of her daze, glancing quickly around the hall to see people staring at her.
“What Jerks!” Mai hissed, her eyes narrowing in anger. “They just walked past us!”
“He…didn't even look at me,” Sage said quietly. That was the first time she has EVER been ignored by the opposite sex. She felt beyond rejected and after the hurt eased away, the anger kicked in.
“That Asshole!” she yelled, her previous shock forgotten. “Who the fuck does he think he is?!”
“Maybe they didn't see us,” Mia offered encouragingly.
“Keep telling yourself that sweetheart,” the panther demon heard a girl say, snickering beside her locker. Mia shot the girl a heated glare, her eyes flashing. The girl quickly turned away, suddenly finding something more interesting in her locker.
They were embarrassed. Things like this just never happened to them, and it wasn't about to start now. With a determined look flashing through her eyes, Sage composed herself.
“Forget them, they're probably gay lovers or something,” she said to Mia as the two started walking to class.
“Yeah, the gay ones are always the hottest,” she agreed with conviction as the warning bell rang. “Let's go to class.” The two said their goodbyes before parting ways.
