Chapter Ten: Unrequited Love

 

"Make a call to Kentaro..." Kane orders Shuji as they appear in a room that decorates in plain white color. "Yes milady..." he lays Alex down on the sofa gently and walks away to the hall to make a phone call. “After many centuries..." Kane kneels down and reaches out for Alex's face once again. "You have finally returned to me once again, and as a halfa like you were long ago." Kane gently brushes the hair that covers Alex's face to the side. "Back then, it was I who was foolishly turned you into one of my kind, and now..." she sighs lightly. “Mia has taken the same road, but it wasn't for love... hers was out of anger... It must be fate that you come to this family once again, but this time..." Kane puts her head next to Alex's head. "This time no one can take you away from me," she suddenly looks up at the ceiling and laughs like a mad person.

While back at the main house, Kentaro helps treat the wounded and also paying close attention to Ken. "He won't die from a few cuts and scratches," Kentaro says as he finishes up on Ken. "I will kill you if he does..." Yuki threaten him. "Okay... okay... so touchy..." Kentaro steps outside when his cell phone rings.

"Hello?" "Kentaro, go to the old house and bring Mia back. Treats her, and call me when you're done..." Shuji's voice floods over the other end. "Is it bad?" Kentaro remains calm even though inside he's really worry. "She's fine... don't let the others know anything about Kane-sama's whereabouts, or you'll have to define fear differently from the dictionary." Shuji sounds smooth and ice cold. "Yes, I won't. Thank you for letting me know," Kentaro senses someone approaching so he makes it sounds like a business call and hangs up.

"Who was it?" Alez asks. "Hospital's head doctor asking for me to come for an emergency surgery," Kentaro shrugs it off smoothly. "Why aren't you going?" Alez continues on asking. "I asked what condition is it and it turns out to be nothing bad, so there's no need for me to run there. Let's go look for Mia-san..." he changes the subject quickly and turns back to Ken and Yuki in side with the others as well.

A search party was sent out, and it didn't take long for them to find Mia and bring her back either. The members in the family know the place like that back of their hands, so Yuki leads the party while Ken, Alez, Amber and many others stay behind. Kentaro treats Mia of her injuries, but she didn't talk or says anything as her tears keep on rolling down her cheeks. Everyone knows why she's not talking and crying like that, but there's nothing anyone can do to help her from slumping into sadness either.

After everything finally calms down, Kentaro went off to visit Kane and Shuji. Also he comes by Kane's order to examine Alex, lying in bed this time and not couch. "Shuji-san, you need to hold back your power a little when up against this girl. Kane-sama will be very unhappy if anything should happen to this girl," Kentaro says solemnly. "If I am to play as a no-minded puppet, I must act like one and Kane-sama agreed as well." Shuji shows little signs of emotion.

"So are you any bit regret about hurting Mia?" Kentaro changes the topic. "It is a good chance for her to learn that she has not been taking her training seriously. As a result, she cannot save Alex or me..." Shuji sighs lightly. "Do you know that it is very hard to fight the one you love? No matter how mindless you are, she cannot just hurt you. You are after all her husband to be..." Kentaro trails off.

Back at the house, Mia locks herself in her room and didn't come out for couple of days now. Not even Yuki or Alez can get her out, and everyone else discuss on the whereabouts of Kane and Shuji. They didn't need to think of where Alex is, because she's probably sucked dried by Kane already. Alez himself dare not to talk about it either, even when Amber ask of Alex.

"Alex... where is she? Is she going to be okay?" Amber asks Alez. "..." he wouldn't look at her and didn't replies to her either. “Is she....?" Amber finally trails off and let go of him. "This... this is all my fault...." Amber flops down on the couch and covers her face up with her hands sobbing quietly. Alez didn't say anything; he just stands there and looks aloof.

"It's not your fault; this is to happen sooner or later. If Alez hasn't go against Kane-sama, then things wouldn't be this bad. Knowing his rebelliousness, there's no avoiding it." Yuki speaks softly coming down the stairs. "Yeah, whatever..." he says coldly. “Mia must be torturing herself about this too..." Yuki let out a heavy sigh sitting down across from Amber. "Why would she? Is it because of Mr.Shuji?" Amber finally looks up at Yuki.

"Yes and no..." Ken answers for Yuki coming down the stairs. "Huh?!" both Alez and Amber seem surprise at his answer. "Shuji is very important to her, but Alex was her one time fling when she first comes to the U.S. for business. Alex treats her like everyone else after work, but other workers treated her as boss even work is out. She too mistaken Alex as a guy and she looks so much like you, Alez that Mia decided to toy with this poor girl. Toying soon becomes an attraction; Mia was in rage when she found out that Alex is nothing but a mere girl with a personality of a guy to match her looks. In a moment of anger she turned Alex into a halfa, but Alex didn't mind and didn't make a big deal about it either. She stills work for Mia like always, and never slipped a word about our kind..." Ken sits down by Yuki.

"You and her are like two drop of water, only your height is the different between you two. You do take it after your ancestor, Kane-sama's once human lover. The price for loving her was his life, once her father found out he threaten her and killed him even when Kane-sama did what her father told her to do." Yuki looks up at the ceiling. "What did he want her to do?" Alez become curious all of a sudden. "Since she is the first pure-bred... she is to carry his children until there's enough to reproduce more..." Ken trails off. "You two seem to know a lot..." "Of course, we're born not much after that incident..." Yuki looks at Amber sitting there in confuses. "Our parents were children of her father and her, and you are the descendant of her lover and her. That is why she wanted you to once again be by her side like you have back then..." Ken gives Alez a fearsome gaze.

"He only has the looks, but he is nothing like the man Kane-sama loved..." Daisuke interrupts standing by the doorway with Sakura next to him. "He may have the charm and sweetness, but the man Kane-sama loved was more than that. He is a man of passion, devotion, and compassion; a man of his words, loving her for who she is and never afraid of her. He stills love her after she bit him because she got hungry and there's nothing but his blood. They fight, but he never ever afraid of her power. That is why her love for him never died, but after finding out that her father go against his words and kill her lover. She was enraged and killed him in return, so it showed that never enrage Kane-sama." Daisuke continues. "And our lovely little Alez did just that and she actually show mercy in not killing Mia, you, and Ken here..." Sakura says.

"How did you two know more than they do?" Alez ignore the insult from Sakura. "We're her kid that is why we didn't help you. We are the neutral part in this family, and only follow Kane-sama's order." Daisuke mocks him. "Then you must know where she and Shuji-san is..." quick like lightning, Alez already have his hand on Daisuke's throat. “Fool!" Daisuke grins devilishly at Alez emitting a powerful wave sending Alez flying back to where the others are sitting.

"We honestly don't know where Shuji-kun or Kane-sama is at this point," Sakura shrugs. "You just watch yourself boy..." Daisuke makes his hand like a gun and shoot at Alez with a wink. "We might look young like you, but you must show respect to your elders..." Sakura winks also and with her brother they left the house.

"That is not his full power, only about half. Imagine how much stronger he is if he uses all his power, you'll be dead." Ken gets up and helps Alez up to his feet. "The two of them only even out with Kane-sama, they learned that the strong will keep the power as the house's head and the weak have to obey. No matter how strong they are, Kane-sama is always one step ahead of them and that they respected her." Yuki says quietly. "They're nothing but power thirst; they'll wait until Kane-sama is off-guard. Then they'll take her out to take control over the family, but she already let Shuji-san runs most of the house's duties. Shuji-san shows that he's worthy for his job as next head family, since they cannot gain on him but have to do a one-on-one fight." Kentaro comes in after a week of absent from the house to treats Alex.

"Everyone knows a lot..." Amber says quietly. "Of course girl," Kentaro smiles warmly. "I'm her oldest child," he chuckles softly at everyone's surprises. "Then how come you're not the next head family?" Alez didn't get all this and Amber was at lost way back. "Being the house's doctor is tiresome enough, head family is just too much responsibility..." he laughs lightly and everyone laughs nervously at his remarks.
