Chapter 3

All seven of them were worried when John didn't show for dinner. Jamie was the most worried of all of them. Megan and Tom both tried to calm her down when she started to spas out after dinner. Megan looked around the beach for John with Kevin and Samantha while the rest of them tried looking for him in other places around campus.
“I wonder where he went to.” Kevin asked concerned. “If he got himself into trouble again. I swear I'm going to give him trouble.”
“Now be nice, Kevin.” Samantha said to him. “He couldn't have gone that far. Or gotten himself into trouble. I mean why would he?”
Kevin just shook his head. “That's exactly how he got here. He always caused to much trouble back home. So his parents sent him here. He's a dumb idiotic boy. He got himself into to much trouble and it landed him here.” He said.
Samantha and Megan looked at Kevin in disbelief. Kevin sighed and looked back at them. He shook his head. Ever since Kevin and John were little kids they had been best friends. So he knew more about John then anyone else did. So he was use to this kind of expression.
“He maybe just fine. And that's a maybe not a for sure.” Kevin said to them. Then he started to walk into the direction that Megan had last seen John go. The other strange part to the mystery was that Dylan had disappeared as well. Some of his friends were at dinner, but not all of them. Most had asked her where Dylan was and she had just shaken her head.
Megan was worried. She hoped that John wasn't in trouble. Or that he had tried to pick a fight with Dylan, because if he had. He probably wouldn't be okay. Megan followed after Kevin and Samantha did the same. All three of them were worried, but Samantha and Megan both knew that Kevin was worried more than they were. Samantha sighed looking at Kevin. Her head fell looking at the ground as they walked. Megan noticed and looked at Samantha then at Kevin. She then lowered her own head. She would probably get in between them. And she knew Samantha liked Kevin, but she didn't know who Kevin felt about Samantha.
They continued to walk until they reached the cliff, or the edge, of the beach. And they still hadn't found John. Megan was getting worried more than ever. Where could he be? She thought. He couldn't have gone over the cliff could he? Either that or he went somewhere else, but where? She was as worried as heck now. She walked over to the edge of the cliff and looked down. There was only the sound of the waves crashing against rocks down below. Sharp rocks for that matter. She was really scared now.
Kevin noticed Megan looking down. He seemed a little disappointed as he looked at her. Samantha took note of that. She looked away from the two. Megan not know what was going on behind her looked farther down trying to see if there was any sign of life down by the waters. And there wasn't. She was a little disappointed, because it was probably the only place where John could have gone. Kevin walked over to Megan. “Come on lets go look some where else.” He whispered in her ear. Megan almost jumped at his voice. She was a little freighted at what he had said. She gave him a confused look. Like she was saying, “Just the two of us?” Kevin saw the way she looked at him. He shook his head. “No. Leaving Samantha here all alone would be rude” He said looking over at Samantha. Samantha saw this and blushed ever so lightly. Megan then nodded and followed after Kevin with Samantha at her side. Samantha was looking at Kevin lovingly and Megan noticed. She gave her friend a small smile. She was happy that Samantha had gotten over Tony. Then as Megan remembered his name she remembered his note to Samantha. She had never given it to her at all.
It was quiet as they walked and Kevin noticed it. He looked behind him, “Hey everything okay back there?” He called out.
Samantha nodded. “Yeah everything's okay.” She said. Megan looked at her. And Samantha just sighed a loving sigh. She really is in love. Megan thought. At least she knows what love is. Other than me. I have no idea how it feels exactly. Megan looked around as they walked. This side of the campus didn't look familiar to her. She was a little confused about where they were going. Kevin was leading the way. So he must know where they were going. So they followed him until they came to a building. All three of them didn't know what this building was at all. But they took a chance and walked in it. Or at least knocked on it. They didn't want to be rude. Just incase someone lived in there.
Kevin knocked a few times, before the door opened. There was a buff built man standing at the door. “May I help you?” He asked in a rude and annoyed voice.
“Yeah you can.” Kevin said in a calm voice. “I'm looking for a friend. John's his name.” The man stood there like he was trying to remember the name. Or at least try to remember something. Megan was almost laughing at the scene. Samantha saw this and elbowed her friend. She too was about to start laughing. Kevin looked at the two girls and shook his head. The man was still trying to think. It was about five or ten minutes until he finally answered the three.
“Nope I haven't seen him.” The man said. Kevin could tell he was lying.
“Do you mind if we come in?” Kevin asked looking up at the man. The man shook his head. And moved aside so that the three could come in. As the three came in Megan saw Dylan sitting there with some other people. Some she knew and some she didn't. As the three walked around the room Dylan took notice of them. He glared at Megan as she passed through. Megan ignored it, but Kevin hadn't. He had seen Dylan around and had noticed him as they passed by him.
“Hey. What's up with that guy?” Kevin whispered to Megan in her ear again. This almost made her jump again. Samantha deiced to answer this one.
“It's her step-brother.” Samantha said to Kevin. He nodded at that. As they continued to walk around the room trying to find John Megan walked over to Dylan. Dylan looked up at her with tired eyes. He's sick. Tired. Something's wrong I just know it. Megan thought. She sat next to him. He turned away. Megan reached into her backpack that she always carried around. She grabbed her clipboard and wrote on it. This was mainly the only time she had ever really talked to Dylan was when they couldn't argue. When their parents argued and both were scared of getting hurt and when they were bored out of their minds. Megan wrote on her paper. Dylan didn't turn around to face her and see what she was writing. His friends were and so were Kevin and Samantha. Megan handed Dylan the paper. It said:

What's wrong? I know something's wrong so don't tell me that there isn't anything wrong.
Dylan read it then wrote back:

I'm not going to tell you. They don't even know.
Megan read it and looked at him and his friends. They looked confused and then she looked at her friends. They were confused as well. Mainly Samantha was. Then after a moment or two. Megan wrote on the paper and gave it back to Dylan. She wrote:

Fine if you won't tell me what's wrong. Then tell me where John is.
Dylan read the note and shook his head. “I can't. I don't know where he is either.” He said and then Megan stood up and walked away. Kevin and Samantha followed.
Megan walked out of the building with her head down. Dylan didn't know where John was, Kevin didn't either. So they didn't know where to look for him next.
“Maybe we should split up?” Samantha asked. Kevin and Megan both nodded.
“I'll go with Megan.” Kevin said. Megan shook her head. “Why not?” He asked. Megan made a motion with her hands that said “You and Samantha go that way and I'll go the other way.” Samantha and Kevin both shook their heads at that.
“No way Megan. I'm not letting you go by yourself!” Samantha insisted.
“I agree.” Kevin said. Megan threw her hands up in the air and just walked away. Leaving the other two alone.
“I guess that solves that.” Samantha said.
“What does it solve?” Kevin said a little mad. “She's alone. She won't be able to call anyone if she gets into trouble. How can that be solved? And how can she be safe?”
“She's like this and she's old enough to take care of herself, she not little at all. Yes, I know she can't talk, but she has always been like that, even when she could talk. She doesn't want to hurt anyone at all.” Samantha said calmly. “Come on lets go look for John this way.” She then walk in the opposite direction that Megan had left. Kevin gave up and followed after her.

Oh how many times have I ran away. How many times have I tried to get out of your grasp? Many times I have tried and many I have been found. I was never the kind to stay with others. I wanted to explore and go on adventures. But now I'm scared I want to go back, but I can't I must find who I have lost. And that is many.

Megan continued to walk in one direction. Making sure she didn't get lost. She hoped that Samantha and Kevin were okay and also that John was also. She wondered where he had gone off too. There wasn't much where he could go actually, but where was the question.
As Megan walked, along the path she had taken, she hit something. It looked like a bag, and it was a bag, but whose was it? Megan picked up the bag and looked at it. It looked a lot like John's before he left. Megan got a little scared, but she took the bag anyways. As she continued to walk down the path she saw someone behind a tree. Megan got a little closer to see who it was. She was relived to see that it was John. Megan walked up behind him, tapped him on the shoulder, and stood there. John turned around to see Megan there, a smile on his face. He looked at him with confusion and happiness too. Megan held up John's pack and handed it to him.
“Thanks,” He said and put it down as he sat down. Megan sat down beside him. She looked up to see the ocean in front of them, the beautiful scenery. Megan was a little confused why John was all the way over here. There's a beach more near the dorms. Why isn't he there? She thought. It would have save us the cause of looking for him and freaking out. Megan looked over at John confused. John noticed and looked away. Megan got more confused. She couldn't understand John, not like she could even understand herself though.
About thirty minutes pasted and Megan stood up indicating that they should go already. John sat there still not moving. “I'm not going back just yet.” He said as he looked up at Megan. Megan opened her mouth to speak, but nothing came out. Megan nodded and walked away. She didn't know where she was going, but she would find her way.
Megan walked around the forest for awhile. She didn't notice anything familiar. Just great, this is exactly what I need right. She thought, I think I'm lost. Megan let out a sigh and walked on. After a few more minutes, it was official, she was completely lost. She sat down on a stump of a fallen down tree and looked up at the sky.
