Chapter 5
Megan wakes up a few hours later before Samantha. She looks at her clock and it tells her it's only 7:30 in the morning. She gets out of her bed and goes to desk to see a folded note on it. She opens it up to see that it's from Tony. The note says, “Did you give Samantha the note yet?” And Megan is just sitting there wondering what he's talking about. Then it hits her. The note that Tony gave her at school to give to Samantha was still in her desk drawer. So Megan opens up her drawer trying to find the note. She finds it and puts it in Samantha's notebook. Not her school notebook a different one, that she uses for home. After Megan put the note in Samantha's notebook she gets up and goes to get dressed for school.
At school Megan tries to avoid everyone, but mainly she's trying to avoid Kevin. She doesn't really want to see him after what happened yesterday. So she goes to her regular classes.
At lunchtime Megan sits alone. Or at least she tries to. Samantha isn't sitting with her like she usually does, she's sitting with Jamie and Mina and some of their friends, at a different table. Then suddenly Aimee is yelling at someone and Megan looks up to see that it is Tony that she is yelling at. Samantha looks up also, but she is very confused at what she is hearing.
“What do you mean you don't want to be together anymore?!” Aimee yells at Tony.
“I mean that I don't like you anymore. And I never will.” Tony says in a regular tone. And Megan can barley hear it.
“What?! Who could not like me? I mean hello I'm the most popular and most beautiful girl there is here in this dumb boarding school! I only came here because of you. Now you wanna break up?!”
“You aren't the most beautiful. And yes I do want to break up.”
“Then who is the most beautiful?”
“I'm leaving now.”
“Fine!” Aimee said as she sat down pouting and Tony stood up easily in one motion taking his food with him. He looked around and saw Samantha with her friends. She didn't quite seem to care. So he hung his head down then looked up again. He saw Megan sitting alone and went over to sit with her.
“Mind if I sit here?” Tony asked her. Megan nodded and took out some paper. She wrote on it saying, “Who were you talking about that was more beautiful than Aimee?” Tony just looked up at her and smiled. He mouthed the name, “Samantha.” Megan just had to smile as well. There was just one thing both of them didn't notice. Samantha was watching them and she was a disappointed to see them smiling at each other like that. And after that no one talked the whole time through lunch. Well mainly Megan and Tony were the ones not really talking.
After school on the school bus Megan sits down and Tony come on and sits next her. Megan doesn't really understand why he's sitting next to her now. She understood back in the lunch room, but not on the bus. So she grabs her notebook and writes, “Why are you sitting next to me and not your other friends?” Tony reads the note and just shook his head. “Why? I can't make another new friend?” He asked her smiling. Megan smiled back and just nodded. “Yes you can. Now who's the new friend?” She wrote down joking with him. “You of course.” He told.
When they got back to dorms Tony and Megan left the bus and went different ways. Megan went up to her dorm room and put her things away. She was planning on walking around campus. And finding some place high to go to. She always loved high places and she always would. But as she walked around she had to stop in her tracks for a bit.
I was told never to wander off by you or mother. But I never listened so you would scold me. By torturing me and hurting me. But more easily to say you bruised me, punched me, and kicked me till I bleed. So every time I learned my lesson, but would forget about it and wander off again. So now I'm scared to ever wander off alone.
Megan just stopped completely then. She felt like crying because she could still feel the pain that her father had put on her before. She put one hand over her side where there was a cut, and some bruises. It still hurt there, but she had learned to ignore them. But when ever she had this memory she could never forget about it. She could never forget how evil her father was. And how evil he was to get remarried after a month of her mother's death. And then to bring in that horrible woman and her son. Oh how she hated Dylan. Her father just had to send him here with her. What to watch her or cause her pain like her father usually did. But so far Dylan hadn't laid a finger on her or at least he had left her alone so far. And they were just about a month into this school year too. Or more than a month Megan couldn't quite remember.
John was walking by when Megan had stopped completely in her tracks. He wasn't following her or anything. He just noticed that she had just stopped with out warning. But then something happened that he thought wouldn't. Megan began to fall backwards toward the ground! John had to run pretty quickly. He was about 5 or 10 yards away from Megan so he really had to run. But he made it in time before she hit the ground. He noticed that she had her eyes closed. “At least you didn't get a concussion or we would have a huge problem right now.” He whispered mainly to himself. Then he picked her up bridal style and took her to the nurses' office just in case something was wrong with her.
The nurses' office was only about 5 buildings away from where Megan had fell so it wasn't that long until John got there. But when he did the lady at the counter was surprised to see them. She noticed Megan in John's arms and got really worried, “Is everything okay with her?” The woman asked.
“That's why I came here. I wanted to see if she was.” John replied.
“Alright come this way.” The woman said as she stood up from her chair and gestured John through a door to a waiting room. “Wait here while I go get the nurse.” She said. John just nodded as he put Megan down on the bed. He looked down at her. And just smiled. He was glad that she wasn't really hurt. If she was he would have never forgive himself for just standing there as she fell.
A few minutes later the nurse named Kali came in and asked John what had happened. He explained that he was just walking along when he noticed that Megan had just suddenly stopped. “Do you think she saw anything interesting?” The nurse asked. John shook his head. “I don't think so nurse Kali. She was looking at the ground.”
“I see. Please continue.” She told him. So John continued. “After a few minutes or even less she just stood there completely still not moving a muscle or anything. Because earlier after she had suddenly stopped she put a hand on her side. I don't know what she was doing, but after that she just started falling. And I don't know why.” John said.
“Well what side did she put her hand on?” Nurse Kali asked him. John had to think on that one. He was a little to far to actually see. So he took a guess. “I think it was the left side. But I'm not completely sure.” He said.
“Okay. Well I'll examine her for a bit in the mean time you may either wait in the main waiting room or you may go back to your dorm.” The nurse told him.
“I think I'll wait in the waiting room. Can you please tell me if she'll be okay when you're done?” John asked pleadingly. He seemed really worried. And he was he really cared for Megan. Probably more then he cared about his family and friends.
“Sure I will.” The nurse said giving him a smile. Then John left the room and went to the main waiting room. He sat down and just flipped through magazines and watched some TV while he waited for Megan to be examined.
The nurse was careful not to wake Megan up. She looked at Megan's sides seeing that the cut and bruises were on her left side. Nurse Kali made a tick noise or disappointed noise with her tongue. “Seems like you hurt yourself pretty badly there.” She said like Megan was a wake and could talk. “Wonder who did that to such a wonderful and beautiful girl like you.”
About an hour past or so it seemed to John. But really it was about 30 minutes when the nurse came into the waiting room. “You may come in and see her.” She told him. John almost jumped out of his seat in excitement. He was about to get really worried.
As they walked into the room Megan was in the nurse told him there were no serious injuries. Just that she may have fainted and she was lucky to have John there to save her. John just sort of blushed hearing that without him being there to save Megan. She might have been worse right now. The nurse also told him that Megan had some cuts and bruises on her left side. John nodded and asked, “So is that going to affect her any way?” The nurse shook her head, “They seemed to be there for a long while.” She told him. John just nodded as he took a seat next to him. And he looked at the face of Megan sleeping. He just left her sleep as she sat there watching her. Like a big brother did with a little sister if she was truly hurt or sick. He just gave Megan a silent smile before he told the nurse that he would be right back. “I'm going to go get something to eat and maybe something to entertain me as she sleeps.” He said. “Alright then. I'll see you later John.” She said as he left the building.
John grabbed some take out to eat at the nurses' office. And maybe get something for Megan too. Then he headed for the library. He got a book for himself. Then he went to the student store and bought Megan a magazine to look through and a cd too.
About 10 minutes later John was back at the nurses' office. They let him through and he went to Megan's bedside. He saw that she was still asleep. So he let her continue sleeping like he did earlier. And he just ate his dinner and read his book as he waited for her to wake up.
