Chapter 6

While everyone was doing their own thing no one noticed the train to the dorms come in. Or notice a boy step out from the station. He walked around the campus getting every girl's attention by how handsome he was. The boy had dirty blond hair and ocean blue eyes. The girls seemed to almost faint when he pasted them, but he ignored them as he got to the administration office to get his stuff. Once there Liana, the lady behind the counter, asks him his name. He replies by saying, “My name is Bryan. The late student from England.” He even had the accent for it. Liana nodded, “Yes I heard you were coming in late. Little brother.” Bryan nodded as he took his books, schedule, and dorm key from his older step sister.
Megan woke up from her very long sleep in the nurse's office. She looks to her left side to see John sitting there. It was late and he looked really tired. But Megan still gave him a confused look. She pointed to some paper on a desk near by. She noticed that John wasn't really moving so she poked him to wake him up. It was late and he was tired she noticed. So when he shook himself awake he saw that she was pointing at the paper. He got up and grabbed the paper and a pencil. He gave them to her and sat back down. He looked at the time on the clock hanging over on the other wall. It said 9:55 almost 10:00 at night. When John looked down on his lap a piece of paper was there it said, “What happened? Why am I here in the nurse's office?”
John had to explain everything to her from when she almost got a concussion to now. “It just didn't seem like you were okay so I brought you here to make sure you were. And the nurse says you have cuts and bruises on your left side.” He pointed to her left side making sure not to touch it. “And nurse Kali said you have to stay over night just incase something happens again. And she has to make sure to take good care of that scar you got. And I was just sitting here waiting for you to wake up. And to make sure you were fine while you slept.” He said as he stood up. Megan gave him a warm smile and mouthed the words, “Thank you.” John nodded and said, “Your welcome,” as he left the room. Megan continued to smile until he was completely gone. Then she noticed the magazine on the seat where John had sat. She picked it up and began to flip through it.
As John was walking back from the nurse's office he saw a boy sitting under a tree with a lot of stuff. So John walked up to the boy, he couldn't see what color hair the boy had until he was about a yard away. The boy's hair color was dirty blond like his. So he was a little surprised to see him out here at this hour. “Hey what are you doing out here this late?” John asked the boy. The boy looked up at the sound of someone's voice. “Huh? Oh I'm sort of lost. I don't know where my dorm is.” Bryan said.
“I can help you with that.” John offered.
“Now that would be helpful. And my name's Bryan by the way.” He said as he picked up his bags.
“John. So what room number is it?” Bryan looked down at his dorm room key and saw the number on it. “Umm… room 357.” He said looking back up at John.
“Right, follow me.” John said as they went up some steps to the guys' dorms. It wasn't that hard to find Bryan's room since it was right next to John's. But it would take a while until they got there. There was mostly silence between them as they walked. Well that is until Bryan broke it. “Umm… So question why are you out here so late?” He asked John. John didn't know what to say. It took him a few minutes.
“Um… well I was visiting someone at the nurse's office. And I was waiting for the person to wake up.” He finally replied.
“I see… A girl?” Bryan had his eye brows raised in question.
“Yeah. She's really cool. And I was really worried about her. So I wanted to make sure she was okay.”
“That's sweet. Do you like her?”
“What?!” John was surprised that Bryan had asked him that.
“Do you like the girl?” Bryan asked again. John couldn't get the words out of his mouth. Yeah he liked her, but he didn't want Bryan making fun of him. Megan was a great friend, but he didn't know how she felt about him. And if he told him how he felt about her it might just ruin their really great friendship.
“So… Do you or don't you like her?” Bryan persisted. John just nodded. “Yeah I do a little, but she's also my really great friend.”
“I see. Well just wait for her to tell you or if you can't wait any longer tell her.” Bryan said as they were near the dorms. They went up the steps and went up to John's dorm. “Your room is right there.” John said pointing to the door on the right.
“Thanks a bunch John. I'm glad I met you. And that girl must be pretty lucky to have you watching her.” Bryan said as he entered his dorm room.
`Yeah I guess so,' John thought as he entered his room. His roommate use to be Kevin, but he had switched with Lenny a few days ago. John didn't really know why, but he couldn't care less for right now. So he just changed into his pajamas… or more likely his boxers and went into his bed and fell asleep. He thought of one thing before he fell asleep. He had to tell Samantha Megan wasn't going to be there tonight. So he got up and grabbed the room phone. He flipped through the book for the dorms and found Megan's name. He dialed the phone number. It was a few seconds after the second ring that the phone picked up. There was a tired voice on the end of it, “Hey Sam, it's John.”
“Oh John what's up?”
“I just called to say that Megan won't be there tonight.”
“She won't why?”
“She's at the nurse's office right now. She has to spend the night there.”
“Oh okay. I hope she's alright.”
“She is don't worry.”
“And thanks John for telling me I was actually getting a little worried.”
“No problem.” He said then hung up and went to bed.

The next day was a weekend thankfully. Samantha was going to be hanging out with Mina and Jamie for awhile and was not going to go see Megan. Which sort of troubled John when he got to the nurse's office. He could of sworn Samantha would be there to see if Megan was alright, but she never came. He hoped Samantha and Megan's friendship wasn't ruined. So as he when he got to Megan's bed she was wake. She looked over at John as he entered and gave him a small smile. She got out of the bed still wearing her clothes from yesterday. “Maybe I should bring you back to your dorm room so that you can change. Huh?” He asked her. Megan nodded as her response. She stood up and followed John to her dorm room. Once there she went ahead changed inside, while John waited outside for her.
Megan came out a few minutes later dressed in a dark red t-shirt and some jeans. `She still looks nice though. No matter what she wears.' John lightly blushed at his though. He wondered how he could be thinking that. `Man Bryan why'd you have to go and put her into my head now all I can think about is her!' He thought fiercely. Megan gave John a confused look since they were still standing outside the door of her room. “Oh right!” John said snapping back to reality. “Hey I need to see a friend and on how he's doing. You wanna come?” He asked her smiling slightly. Megan nodded and followed after him as they walked over to Bryan's dorm room.
“Who's room is this?” Megan wrote on a piece of paper and gave it to John. John looked at the note as he knocked on the door. “Oh this is just a friend that I met last night. He's new here.” John said as the door opened.
“Yes I'm new that's for sure.” Bryan replied looking from John to Megan. “Who's this John?” He said pointing to Megan. Megan just raised an eye brow at the pointed finger. Bryan was surprised to see that Megan wasn't answering his question like he suspected.
“This is Megan.” John said told him. “Hey you need any help in unpacking?”
“Yeah I could use an extra hand or two.” Bryan replied as he moved aside to let the two in. As Megan passed Bryan she could see from the corner of her eye that Bryan was smiling at her. This sent a shiver down her spine a bit. He was cute just like John, but she just didn't like him the same. She moved near John, but she was so focused on looking around the room that she didn't notice him in front of her. So she ended up bumping into him and falling on top of him. She quickly got off of him and mouthed the word, sorry to him. “It's okay really,” John replied as he stood up. “So what do you want us to do first?” He turned to Bryan. Bryan just shrugged, “Um you can go ahead and just take things out of the boxes for now.” He said.
“Alright,” John said as he began to open some boxes near him. Megan soon followed after John and opened some boxes near her too. Bryan walked over near John and started to take stuff out of the boxes that were already opened, well the ones that he had opened before the two had come in. “Hey why doesn't she talk?” Bryan asked John in a soft voice so that Megan wouldn't hear. He looked up to make sure she didn't and saw that she was only minding her own business as she opened boxes and took things out. John looked up at Bryan. “She's just like that. I never really understood it either.” John replied to him. Bryan nodded and continued unpacking.

Samantha, Jamie, and Mina were walking all around the campus just talking. Samantha didn't once bring up that Megan had ended up in the nurse's office last night. She just didn't want anyone to worry. She did feel like visiting Megan this morning, but Jamie and Mina had come to her door and asked to hang out. Samantha saw that every time she hung out with Jamie and Mina they never had Megan along with them, which made Samantha feel even worse. She knew that Megan felt isolated and that she hadn't been spending enough time with her.
Jamie noticed that Samantha was feeling down so she said, “Hey Sam what's up?”
Samantha instantly snapped her attention back to the other two. “Oh nothing really. Just thinking is all.” She told them lying completely. She didn't know why she hadn't told them so she just shook her head as they walked on to the beach. When they got there they bumped into Lenny and Tom.
“Hey ladies,” Lenny said in a smooth voice. Jamie and Mina just laughed while Samantha looked at the ocean and sighed. She had to go find Megan after this, but that was going to take awhile for as Samantha was about to turn around Jamie dragged her towards the ocean.
“Come on Samantha!” Jamie said happily as she was also holding on to Lenny's hand. Samantha just gave her a small smile and just followed after her.
Two hours later the 5 of them were still at the beach having fun. Lenny and Jamie were chatting it up, Mina and Tom were splashing around in the ocean, and Samantha just sat there holding her knees up to her chest just looking out at the ocean. She remembered back home when Megan, Tony, and her would always go down to the beach were they lived. Tony always was able to bring a friend with him to keep Megan company while she and Tony played around in the ocean, splashing around and everything. But she also remembered that Megan would go there by herself, because of something bad that had happened in her family or to her. So Samantha promised to always check up on her, but she was usually to busy with Tony to remember, so when something bad did happen she was to late and found Megan by the beach just sitting there in the cold.
Samantha also remembered when Megan was turned down by the boy of her dreams. Megan had a dream and ended up sleep walking to the cliff near the beach. Samantha closed her eyes at the thought. And soon the memory came to her.
It was dark, a nice warm school night. Tony and Samantha were just walking up to her door when she heard her phone ring, “Hello?” She asked. “Hey it's me Brandon,” the boy said. “Oh hey what's up?”
“Well I wanted to ask you if everything was okay with Megan.”
“I don't know what's been up with her today. I've been with Tony the whole time.”
“Oh well can you tell her I'm really sorry.”
“Why what happened?” Samantha asked him and Brandon ended up telling her the whole story about getting the note and telling Megan right off the back that he didn't like her. When he was done Samantha was just dead silent. She didn't know what to say. It was best that she didn't say anything since she was just so angry at her boyfriend's best friend.
“Samantha?” Brandon asked her. “You there.”
“Yeah I'm here.” She was able to say slowly with out yelling. “I'll go find her and clear things out.”
“Thanks Sam.” He said.
“Don't call me that.” She said sternly and hung up on him.
“What's wrong babe?” Tony asked.
“It's Megan. She might be really depressed right now. I need to go find her.”
“I'll come with.”
“Thank you.” She said to him as she took his hand and ran towards the beach. Samantha knew that Megan wouldn't be home right now. She was never home on a Tuesday. But it was 10:00 she should be home right now, Samantha thought so she stopped in her tracks and dialed Megan's phone number. She knew she would be yelled at when someone picked up. All of Megan's family was asleep right now. Well they should have been at least.
After the second ring Samantha heard a boy's voice, it was Dylan, “Hello?” He asked. He sounded very annoyed.
“Hey Dylan sorry to wake up, but-“
“You didn't wake me I've been up. Forced to at least. Mom won't let me go back to bed since she left.”
“Since who left?”
“Megan, of course, what you didn't hear? Or no actually we thought she might be with you after the fight tonight.”
“No I've been out all night with Tony.”
“Well then that's out of the question.”
“Dylan just tell me what's going on!” Samantha demanded.
“Megan's missing.” He put simply.
“What?!”
“Megan is missing.” He said again.
“I know that, but why?”
“Who knows? The fight our family had tonight or something else.”
“Well is she in her bed?”
“No when I tried to talk to her there was no answer so I opened her bed room door and there was no one in her bed. Her window was open.”
“Great. I'll go find her and bring her back home.” Samantha told him.
“Alright you do that. I'm going back to sleep.” He said as he yawned in the phone and hung up.
Samantha put her cell phone away and began to run again.
“Hey wait Sam what's wrong?” Tony asked.
“Megan's missing. She ran away. Again.” Samantha told him.
“I think I found her.” Tony said as they approached the beach. He was pointing at the cliff. Samantha looked up to see someone. She looked familiar and she was. “Megan!” Samantha half shouted. “Come on.” She pulled Tony up to the cliff.
“Megan?” Samantha said slowly walking towards her, but Megan couldn't hear her. She just stood there at the edge looking out to the ocean. She was still in her pajamas which made Samantha a little confused. “Come on Megan don't jump.”
“Why shouldn't I?” Megan said in a sleepy crying voice. “I mean what is there to live for? No love and no family. Why should I still live?”
“Come on Megan.” Samantha said. “Don't do this. There are still things to live for. You will find love and you have me as family now. Well not really, but still I'm like family to you and I always will be.” She surprised Megan in a hug and suddenly her friend just fell asleep again. This confused Samantha even more. But she was glad that her friend had talked for once. So she smiled as she tried to carry Megan, but didn't succeed so she left Tony carry Megan bridal style back to her house.
The next day Megan's family had to bring her to the hospital. Samantha went with them of course. She wanted to know why Megan was acting like that, because it was the first time. But at the hospital Megan stayed quite the whole time. This made Samantha even more confused. I think she was confused enough for one day. So after they all found out that this would be normal whenever she lost something valuable like a person to her. She would go off near the ocean, the place she loved the most, and try to hurt herself. And the doctor also said that she would need to have someone watching her every night when ever her family had a fight. And that was fixed.
So after the doctor's appointment Samantha and Megan spent the day together. “Hey why aren't you talking like you were last night?” Samantha asked Megan at one point. Megan just gave her friend a confused look.
