Chapter 8

Plan keep Samantha-out-of-love-until-Tony-got-to-talk-to-her, went well for a couple more months, and Christmas break. Megan knew Tony could have told Samantha over break since he knew where she lived. But he didn't sadly. Megan didn't go back home to her father and step-mother with Dylan, but spent the holidays at Samantha's parents. They were glad to have her there with them. “Like having a second daughter,” is what they had said to them. Megan and Samantha had exchanged wonderful gifts and had gotten Samantha's parents gifts as well. It might have been the best Christmas vacation Megan had ever had.
So when they came back to Garamond boarding school Samantha told Jamie and Mina all about it. And told their story of their Christmas vacation. Jamie said that she had spent it with her family while John had gone off to Britain with Bryan for Christmas. John had been so happy there. He had made so many friends and had told Jamie and the rest of the family that he had met a nice girl. That made Megan's heart sink. She liked him very much, but hearing that he had met a nice girl, might change everything, but according to Jamie he only liked her as a friend, the nice girl that is, which made Megan seem much happier.
Mina had stayed home with her brother and had a normal Christmas with her family. “It might not have been as great as your Christmas, but I didn't have anyone to spend it with. And Lenny was spending the majority of his time out with you, Jamie. And Kevin usually comes over sometimes, but he didn't feel like it this year. I guess not after what happened with John and him,” she said and they all knew what that meant. “And Tom was with his family in Switzerland! He might have met this really cute girl. Cuter then me! I hope he isn't going to dump me.” She added sadly. Jamie and Samantha pattered her back and Megan just gave her a smile.
“He isn't going to dump you. How could he dump a wonderful beautiful girl?” Jamie said. Samantha nodded and so did Megan. Megan might not have known Jamie and Mina well, but she knew for sure that no one could dump a girl like Mina. And if they did they were crazy. Completely crazy!
“She's right, how could he dump a wonderful, most beautiful girl,” came a voice. Mina turned around and there was Tom standing there with a box and flowers in his hand. His arms were open wide inviting a hug. Mina tore away from Jamie and Samantha, on purpose or not, and gave Tom a big hug. “Missed you,” he whispered to her.
“I missed you too. I was worried about you,” She told him pulling away to look at his face. Before Tom could answer he pulled his arms from behind her and gave her the flowers and wrapped box.
“For you my dear. A late Christmas present from Switzerland,” He said smiling, “And why were you worried about me? There was nothing to be worried about Mina.”
“You didn't answer my e-mails.”
“Well it would be pretty hard to answer them with everything in the Switzerland language. Even English emails. I'm sorry I should have told you that when I got home.”
“It's okay,” Mina said and gave him another hug. When they parted she opened her present to find a necklace in there. “It's beautiful,” she breathed out. “I love it.” Tom took it from her and put it around her neck.
“And you look more beautiful in it.” Tom whispered in her ear making Mina giggle. While Jamie, Samantha, and Megan stood there watching the couple flirt, someone had decided on sneaking up on them. Well actually three somebody's. Lenny, John, and Bryan, they all came up behind each girl and covered their eyes.
“Guess who?” All of them asked.
“Who?” Jamie and Samantha asked. Megan's eyes were the first to be uncovered. She turned around to see John with a stuffed animal polar bear and a tiger in his hand.
“For you from London,” he said with a smile and handed them to her. Megan gave him a smile and took them gracefully. She nodded her head as a thank you.
Jamie was surprised with a kiss and a book from Lenny. And well Samantha nothing, Bryan just did it for the fun of it. Samantha wasn't mad or depressed, she just laughed along with him. Then Tony came up behind her in the middle of all of it. Everyone, besides Megan, thought he would ruin everything. But Tony just tapped her shoulder, Samantha turned around to come face to face with him. He gave her a smile then held up a stuff animal, which was a cheetah, her favorite animal, then held out a box for her. Samantha looked confused then turned to Megan. Megan moved her hands like she was saying take them. So Samantha did.
“What are these for?” She asked him in confusion.
“I'm sorry okay. I love you, and I'm sorry,” Was his reply. Samantha was just too shocked to answer. Megan looked down at the floor and saw Samantha's notebook where she left the note from Tony in. She opened it up and found the note right where she had left it. She took it out and handed it to Samantha.
Samantha slowly read the note then looked up at Tony tears in her eyes. She gave him a weak smile and flung her arms around him. “Thank you so much. And I love you too. I guess I've been so mad at you that I've been trying to get rid of you.” She told him.
It was a happy moment, but not for long. Megan went down to the beach for a bit, John, Samantha, and Tony followed after. Then came the announcement. “In two weeks we will be having a nice little dance. So everyone come with a date and look your best. Please I beg of you to look your best,” the announcer said. “Two weeks until the dance.”
John looked at Megan and smiled. He would ask it not matter what happened he would ask her right away. He drew in a breath and moved in, but Scott got in the way. He asked Megan if she would go and she shook her head at him. He left with his head down. So after that John went ahead and took a step near her again, but then moved back, I'll just ask later. No need to rush. Right? He thought. And while he was thinking Tony had asked Samantha ready and she hit him making him yell a bit.
“What was that for?” He asked her.
“For being an idiot. And why did you have to ask it I would go with you to the dance? It's not like I would have said no!” Samantha replied.
“Sorry I guess I'll have to remember you're my girlfriend again,” He said giving her a kiss on the cheek. Samantha nodded and they were gone from the beach. Leaving Megan and John alone. Why he didn't take the chance to tell her how he felt or ask her to the dance then, I don't know. It was him. He would wait until the last minute to do something. And I guess this was one of them.
A week past since the announcement and there was only a few days left to ask Megan to the dance, but still John didn't have the guts to ask her. Megan had gone with Samantha, Jamie, and Mina to the dress shop to find the perfect dress that day. Samantha secretly bought Megan a dress for the dance. If she was going or not. Jamie and Mina were the only ones who knew about this. So they had to keep it a secret until it was the night of the dance. Which was really hard, since they all agreed that is was just her type. And it was to cute not to be bought. So while they were doing this Megan sat outside on a bench looking up at the sky. And that's when it happened, it seemed like a dream to her. It went so fast Megan could barley remember what happened, but John would always remember.
John had come up to the bench and sat down next to her. His friends were in the store next to the dress shop, probably buying tuxedoes or something. He looked over at her and sighed. I'm going to ask her. He thought and took a deep breath. “Hey Megan?” He asked stupidly. Megan looked over at him and titled her head in question.
“I was wondering if you wanted to go to the dance with me.” He said quickly. Megan blinked a few times thinking this was all a dream and she would wake up anytime soon. Then she smiled at him and nodded. She was happy he had asked her. And then the girls were outside standing next to her. They all screamed and jumped. They were happy as well. Very, very happy for Megan.
So after that they left for Samantha and Megan's dorm room. While Samantha, Jamie, and Mina looked at their dresses and tired them on and did everything to prepare for the dance, Megan sat on her bed looking through something. Samantha sat on the bed and looked at her.
“Something wrong?” Samantha asked her. Megan shook her head. “You know I know you better then that. Something's wrong. What is it?” She pressured.
Megan took out her note pad and began to write her answer on it. It's nothing really. Just thinking. She handed it to Samantha. Samantha didn't give up though. “Hey aren't you happy that John asked you to the dance.” She asked. Megan nodded with a smile. She was happy that John had asked her to the dance, but why at the last minute? That was the million dollar question. And no one had the answer for it.
The night of the dance Megan was all dressed up, with the help of her friends of course. Samantha knew that Megan would need some help in preparing for the dance. So she had called Jamie and Mina over three hours before the dance. And they had done a great job in that time span. Megan looked beautiful. But before they left to meet the guys at the dance Megan didn't move from her bedside. She was holding a necklace in her hand. She held it tightly then looked up at Samantha. Samantha smiled at her friend and walked over to her.
“Read to go?” She asked Megan. Megan nodded in response and followed after them. She didn't put the necklace down back where it was, but held it in her hands.
So when they got to the guys Jamie, Mina, and Samantha walked in with their dates. John and Megan stood outside for a few more minutes. John noticed that Megan was holding something. He looked down at her hands.
“What's that you're holding?” He asked her. Megan looked up at him and for once noticed that he had really gotten dressed up for this. I wonder did he get help from his friends as well. Or did he just get dressed up like this himself. Because he is really handsome right now. Not like he wasn't before, but still he looks great. She thought. Then she remembered John's question. So she opened up her hands to reveal the necklace. “Who gave that to you?” He asked her in curiosity, forgetting that she wouldn't talk. Megan looked up at him and took out her notepad once again and began to write on it.
It's from my mother. She gave it to me the day she died. She said that if I wore it she would always be with me. But I know she's with me either way. Necklace on or off. It's the only thing that I really have left of her. Everything else my dad threw away. He doesn't really like to remember her now that he's remarried and everything.
John nodded and took the necklace carefully from her hands. He went behind her and put it on her. “Now you look more beautiful with it.” He whispered to her. That made Megan blush a lot. “Now then shall we go in with everyone else?” He gestured to the door. Megan nodded and John opened up the door for her.
When they were in they met up with everyone else the music blasted up. The song was a fast one, the kind that Megan and Samantha always loved to dance to. John took Megan to the dance floor and they began to dance with everyone else around. They danced through a few songs, then got tired.
“I'll go get us some drinks. Wait here.” John said when they got to the table where everyone else was. Megan nodded and sat down tired. This is a great night. She thought as she watched John leave with the rest of the guys, including Bryan who they had met up with.
When they guys got to the punch table they started to talk about the girls and how great everything was. John didn't really talk much, he just kept looking over at the table where the girls where. Then suddenly he saw someone familiar pass by. He froze and looked at his side where a girl with blonde hair stood. She was smiling as she got her punch. John's breathing suddenly became slow. It was the girl from London. Bryan saw that his friend was acting strange.
“Something wrong John?” He asked. John shook his head.
“Look who's here,” John whispered to Bryan. Bryan looked around then saw who he was talking about.
“What's Ally doing here?”
“I don't know. I would like to know though. But it's not good for her to be here right now.”
“Of course it isn't. You seemed to have really liked her back in London, but here it's has to be all about Megan. And having both of them here isn't good huh?” John couldn't tell if Bryan was mad at him or if he was just trying to help. But John's brain wasn't working properly right now. So he just got the drinks then left with the guys behind him.
They got to the table and drank their punch. When John was done with is fourth one he got up. He said he needed some air and left. Megan was confused and just stayed seated, but she kept her eye on the door. And after awhile of waiting for John to come back she went ahead and danced a little with Samantha or Bryan.
While no one was looking Ally had left the dance and had bumped into John outside. He was hurting himself; well actually all he was doing was tearing his hair out, while whispering to himself. And hitting his head on a pole in the process. Ally put a hand on his shoulder.
“Something wrong handsome?” She asked him in a sweet voice, but it still made John jump.
“What are you doing here, Ally?” He asked her a little to harshly.
“Why? I can't be here?”
“Well yes, but why this boarding school? Why follow me and Bryan here?”
“I didn't follow you guys. I just came here because I wanted to. And I heard they were the best boarding school on the planet. Is that so hard to believe.” John didn't answer that but just shook his head.
“Why can't I be here with you? I thought you liked me?” She asked him. Megan had slipped out of the building and was standing outside. She could hear John's voice and someone else's. But she didn't know who. So she kept her distance just listening to what they were saying.
“I do, but I'm having some problems here.” He said not noticing Megan there. Megan looked hurt and ran in their direction, since it was the only way to her dorm and everywhere else. John saw her and also saw the tears in her eyes. He got more angry and just walked back inside. He knew that if he tried to go after Megan she wouldn't even look at him after what he had told Ally.
The dance was almost over when he came inside and everyone was already leaving. But his friends stayed with him while he stood there shaking his head.
“What happened?” Bryan asked him after telling everyone else they could go. He had noticed Megan didn't come back with John so he knew right away something had happened out there.
“She's staying here. Asked me if I liked her. And of course I said yes, what else could I have said?” He replied through clenched teeth and almost in tears. “Then… Then Megan was there. I didn't even know that she was. And she heard me say then. Then ran away. I don't know where she is now. I'm so stupid!” Bryan patted his friend on the back.
“It's alright man. Come on lets go back to your dorm.” And they left after that. They didn't talk about what happened anymore. But just talked about guy stuff.
The next day was school, Megan was really tired and had almost missed the bus that morning. She had stayed out late at the beach, crying her eyes out. When she had come back that night it was almost midnight. Samantha was so worried that she had stayed up until Megan came back. Samantha didn't ask any questions but just gave Megan a big hug and helped her get ready for bed.
Megan didn't see John at all during the school day, she figured he was hanging out with the blonde chick she had seen last night. And well he sort of was. She wouldn't leave him alone so he had no choice, but to stick around with her.
So after school Megan had went off by herself and stayed on the beach all day. She didn't want to hang out with anyone for awhile. So she tired to avoid anyone she knew for a few weeks. Well she actually just tired to avoid John for a few weeks. She didn't want to talk to him at all. It hurt her to much already. He had taken her heart then broken in so many pieces you couldn't even tape it up.
