Original Stories Fan Fiction ❯ A Second Chance ❯ A Fateful Meeting ( Chapter 1 )

Prologue

After reading my first original story a couple of times I came to the conclusion that writing it in the script form was a bad idea. The script form made it harder to describe events and scenery for the most part. I decided that it’s going to be discontinued and this story will become my best work. I’m going to put a lot of effort into it. It’s going to be from a third person perspective because I find reading second and first person perspectives to be brutally annoying. This way I can focus on all characters and all events in detail. So this means it will be written in actual story form, none of that name: text stuff that gets annoying to read. Another note for anyone that is discouraged by English names instead of Japanese names. I’m an English writer, so I WILL use English names.

The story takes place in a regular suburb in a small town near the ocean. I could say an exact real location but doing so would be irrelevant. Our main character is Ryan, the typical 21 year old man working his way through college. All though it seems fate decides to make his life more dramatic and eventful. Ryan was walking home from school one eerie evening through the fog with his childhood friend Jean who attends the same college. They never showed serious feelings for each other then regular friendship. The road they were walking along was somewhat of a country road. On the left of them was a small cliff with occasional stairways leading down to the beach. The right was hilly grassland. With this, the story begins…

Chapter 1 “A Fateful Meeting’

“Man, history class is always sooo boring,” declared Jean

Of course Ryan wasn’t in the mood to talk seeing as how he was told today by the history teacher that he was failing. He lifts his head out of sulking position to see Jean’s questioning face as they walked through the moonlit street with the occasional passing of street lights. Her hair was glossy, long, and black. It glittered from the moon light while swaying left and right, as the oceans calm breeze blew. She was wearing a somewhat tight white shirt with a black leather unbuttoned jacket which was also affected by the breeze. Her skirt, all so black in color, was menacingly flying around as the wind picked up. The shoes on the other hand were that of a high class business woman. Her right hand was holding a briefcase while her left swung back and forth while she moved.

“I… I was told that I’m failing history today… If my grade doesn’t pick up soon I may have to retake the course,” said Ryan heavy heartedly.

“WHAT?! How can you be failing history? You’re one of the smartest people attending the college.”

“Well, funny thing is I usually fall asleep in class. Your right, its just so boring…”

With that reply Jean instantly bursts out laughing and stumbles along. Ryan stops as the road forks, turns and looks back at Jean who was holding her upper body up by pushing on her knees recovering from the laughing.

“You can’t be serious; you’re failing because you can’t stay awake? Here I am worried about you and it’s because you don’t get enough sleep.”

Ryan shows a look of surprise, “You mean you knew I was failing history?”

“Um… that is… I mean… Look, I caught a glimpse of his grade records while asking for help a few days back. I noticed your name and… your grade.”

Jean stares down at her shoes as she confesses.

“I’ve been worried sick about you ever since then. If you want, you can borrow my notes after class from now on.”

“Seriously? That would be awesome Jean.” replied Ryan with his spirit instantly repaired.

“No problem, anything for a best friend.”

Jean winks at Ryan as she walks up to him. The briefcase is opened as she pulls out some papers and hands them to Ryan.

“Those are the notes from today’s class, study them tonight. Don’t forget we have a test tomorrow. I gotta go, see ya later!”

“Wait don’t you need them to study too?!”

Jean had already taken off up the right of the fork leading to a housing area.

“No, I studied already besides I think you need it more then I do.”

“But…” said Ryan uneasily

Ryan looks up the fork and notices how far she has run.

“Well… Guess I should just accept them. She’s right I really do need them.”

He continues down the road through the fog. The crickets chirped endlessly while Ryan walks down the street. He gazes out onto the sparkling ocean waving back and forth on the beach. Out of the corner of his eye he notices a small peculiar object on the beach. The objects outline became more and more clear as he came closer to it. A small log raft came into view.

“What the…”

As he drew closer he saw a body lying on the beach. With that he instantly took off into a full fledge run and jumped the railing landing on the beach. He continued over to the body with all his might. As he came closer the body’s figure became clear. It was a woman with long silky purple hair. Her body looked very fragile and worn. The clothes were ripped in many places as well.

“Oh god, I hope she’s all right,” he said as he desperately made his way to her.

Ryan falls to his knees beside her in the sand and rolls her over. He looks into her eyes which were wide open and twitching violently.

“Miss, Miss are you all right?!”

At the sound of his voice she swung her arms around pushing him away. Ryan falls back into the sand catching himself with his hands. She was now shaking all over as if shivering from fear.

“No time to lose.” said Ryan as he pulled out his cell phone from his pocket calling 911.

“Hello? I found a girl lying on the beach; she’s shaking all over and looks very weak. Please send an ambulance fast. We’re at crystal beach next to the new housing complex down route 55. I am calm! Thank you.”

Ryan positions himself back over by her side and gently rubs her shoulder.

“Everything’s going to be fine; I got an ambulance on the way ok.”

She continues shaking and twitching as Ryan runs up the stairs back onto the street.

“Camooon, camooon… where are these people…”

A couple of minutes pass by. The darkness is broken by flashing lights as the ambulance races up the road. The brakes screech as it instantly comes to a halt next to Ryan. Two paramedics burst out of the ambulance and open the back doors pulling out a stretcher.

“She’s down the stairs, this way.”

They followed him down the stairs over to the girl which was no longer shaking. She had passed out.

“Get her legs!” said one of the paramedics as they lifted her onto the stretcher.

They instantly carried her up the stairs and laid her in the back of the ambulance. Ryan followed eagerly.

“Do you know the girl,” said the paramedic in the back with her.

“Well… Not exactly… But…”

“There’s no time, just get in!”

With that Ryan jumped in and closed the doors. The medic signaled to the driver which then slammed on the gas. The ambulance took off down the road with haste.

“Is she going to be all right?”

“Well I can’t say anything for sure till we get her to the hospital, I’m sorry. As of right now though, she probably passed out from being so weak. She got too excited and her body couldn’t handle it in its current condition. Don’t worry It shouldn’t be anything too serious.”

Moments later the ambulance comes to a stop as a few other people are waiting. The doors open and she is carried out into the emergency rooms.

“I’m sorry but this is as far as you go sir. Your going to have to wait in the waiting room from this point on until notified otherwise,” said the medic.

“Ok,” replied Ryan with despair.

He slowly began making his way to the waiting room in deep thought.

“What am I doing? I don’t have to wait for her… I don’t even know her. I’m sure her family will come for her. Why am I still heading towards the waiting room? That’s right… I don’t have to wait for her,” said Ryan in utter confusion.

He begins walking off to a payphone.

“No… I can’t leave.”

Stopping dead in his tracks and turning back towards the hospital doors.

“I want to see her again… I have to see her again. I want to know if she’s ok.”

Ryan proceeds to the doors and enters slowly. The receptionist is there waiting to greet him and guides him to the couches in the waiting room.

“You can stay here as long as you like. Good luck.”

The receptionist takes off back down the hallway.

“Well… I said I’m going to see her again. So, that’s what I’m going to do,” said Ryan decisively.

Ryan lets out a quick relieving sigh and sits down on the couch. Slowly, he thinks himself to sleep as his head leans back into the couch.
