Purple Wedding
Pandora stood in front of a tall mirror. She held out the skirt of
her purple dress. Her pigtails made her look like a tall
twelve-year-old. The deep purple made her skin look so pale. She
was going to a wedding today. Did the dress have to be so ugly? Was
it even legal for a dress to have so many bows? And so much lace?
And ruffles?
"I look like a child," she said to herself. There came a knock on
her door.
"Ready to go?" Jemima asked. Pandora forced herself to smile.
"Yeah!" she said. She turned and walked out of the room. Jemima
stood in the hallway, waiting for her. Her friend looked so much
better. The pant suit didn't do her figure any favors. At least the
color didn't blind her. Jemima looked her up and down.
"Cute shoes," she said.
"Thanks," Pandora said through clenched teeth. "Can we go now?"
Jemima held out her arm. Her friend took it and followed her down
the hall.
The wedding in question took place at one. Everyone had to wear
purple. Pandora didn't know why she was invited here. She didn't
have a reason to refuse. Jemima just came along because why not.
The women arrived at Ueno Park. Jemima turned to Pandora.
"Who is this wedding for again?" she asked.
"I think it's Yoko," Pandora said. Jemima gave her a strange
look.
"You think?" she asked. The designer shrugged.
"I forgot her name," she said.
"Oh," Jemima said. They were already here. Pandora's dress made
swishing noises as she moved. Maybe she should've ditched the
tights. A woman in a dark purple flamingo dress greeted them.
"Welcome!" she said. "Are you here for the bride or groom?"
"Bride," Pandora said.
"Right this way," the woman said. She led them over to the seats.
Purple as far as the eye could see. Some of the people wore funny
hats with feathers and flowers. Jemima leaned over to Pandora's
side.
"Are the bride and groom going to wear purple too?" she
whispered.
"I guess..." Pandora said back. The women took their seats. Pandora
tried in vain to smooth down her skirt. She just couldn't get it
passed her knees. Jemima put her hand on her shoulder. Pandora
turned her head.
"Just leave it," Jemima whispered. Pandora paused and stopped what
she was doing. As much as she hated to admit it, Jemima had a
point. The designer turned forward and sighed. Meanwhile, more
guests in purple came in.
