Chapter 3
Kura ran out the door and down the steps. She listened intently for sounds outside and everything was quiet."Too quiet..." Kura muttered. She opened the front door and looked around. Sintia was as silent as a grave.
'They want to lull me into a false sense of security.'
She stepped outside and she didn't sense anything. Forming a plan, Kura darted forward and ran as fast as she could. When she saw a path leading to the right, she took it. Grinning, Kura thought she was home free. She was proven wrong when a screech above her was sounded.
"Crap!" Kura yelled.
'Should we fight?' Kira asked in Kura's mind.
'Eh. If you wanna be here all night.' Kura replied.
'No thanks...'
'I thought so.'
Kura sprinted along the dark alley. Not wanting to waste her energy, she didn't use any of her Fire Magic. She saw the gate leading out of the town and she smirked when she opened it. When she was on the other side, she was glad she didn't use any magic. It was the Water Demon that had been chasing her. Kura slammed the gate shut and started to run.
The Master of the Water Demon came up and Kira gasped.
'I knew it!' she yelled. 'He wants me dead!'
'Tcha! Everyone thinks you're a thief now.'
'And whoes fault is that?'
Kura shrugged. Ahead of them was a forest.
'Uhm... Kura? Can I have my body back?' Kira asked.
'Huh? Oh, sure.' Kura closed her dark crimson eyes and her hair lengthened, the fangs, claws, and dog-ears vanished. Kira opened her eyes and they were their original color.
"Thank you, Kura." Kira said. To say that Kira was a little confused would be a huge understatement. Kira looked around for some form of shelter, but found nothing.
Inside of Kira's mind, Kura was searching as well. Seeing as she had better senses, she was the first one to spot the cave.
'Over... I think it's somewhere northwest of here.'
'What?' Kira questioned.
'A cave!' Kura shouted in exasperation.
Kira made an 'O' with her mouth. Kura rolled her eyes as Kira began to walk northwest. The forest was very dense and bugs were everywhere. Kira swatted them away but to no avail. Kira groaned in frustration and it took all of her self-control to not scream.
'Having some trouble, Master?' Kura asked. Kira could tell by the tone of her voice that she was smirking.
After what felt like hours, Kira's patience wore out.
"Kura! Where is this cave you said that you saw?"
'Hhhh... Hang on.' Kura sighed.
The red light surrounded Kira again and when she opened her eyes, she was looking at Kura.
"Well?" Kira was tired from running and sweat was visible on her forehead.
"I..." For once since the time that they've known each other, (which wasn't very long) Kura was at a loss for words. "I could've sworn that I sensed it..." she trailed off.
Kira and Kura both sighed and decided to give up the search for the cave. They worked together and gathered sticks so they could make a fire. Kira sat down under a tall oak tree. Kura sank down beside her and held out a hand. A spark dropped from her hand and the sticks burst into flames.
"So," Kira started, trying to make conversation, "What's your story?"
"Huh? Oh." Kura knew that Kira was asking about her past. Kura sighed and took a deep breath.
