Chapter I
~Home. Sweet Home~

“Did a stabilizer?” Kris asked, removing her night vision glasses. “How could you tell?” Dan asked as they pull up to the gates. “You didn't hurl at the scene,” Kris nodded as the gates open up and Dan drove in and parked the car. “Is that a compliment or an insult?” Dan asked as they stood in front of the office's front door. “Both,” Kris said crisply as she unlocked the door. “Are you jealous that I'm on the force before you are?” Dan smirks as they entered the vast hallway. “Please, we're both having the same dead end job.” Kris snorted loudly as they got to the office.

“Welcome home,” said the lady from behind the desk. Her long blonde hair, ocean blue eyes, and goddess copper skin tone radiates the room. Standing in her dark blue suit, her smiles are always kind and gentle somehow. “Kris, why don't you go and take a shower? Kali prepared it for you,” she said, smiling kindly at Kris. “'Kay,” was her only answer and she was gone. The radiant smiles disappeared immediately as Kris closed the door behind her.

“How come she always bathes before I did?” Dan sounded a bit unreasonably jealous. “Did you take a stabilizer not so long ago?” the Godsend lady asked him, ignoring his whining. “I took it about half an hour ago. What of it?” Dan was surprised that she actually cares about him. “Go take a cold shower to cool yourself down. The scene must be quite exhilarating on you that you needed a stabilizer,” the lady mused, eyeing his crouch. “Excuse me then,” Dan blushed bright red as he opened the door and rushed off. `His body seems to react to the pill better than seeing a naked girl,' the blonde hair snickered at the thought.

A lady that looked exactly like the one in the office, but she has long silver hair instead of rich blonde hair. She stood next to the laundry basket with a towel wrapped around her slim body as Kris comes in. Kris took off her clothes soon after stepping into the washroom. Walked to the showerhead, completely undressed and let the warm water runs down her body. After washing and shampooing under the shower, Kris shut off the water before stepping out of the shower. The lady comes up to her and handed Kris the towel to dries off, and she went away to get Kris's clothes as Kris took the towel and dry herself. The lady helps Kris get dress, and Kris doesn't seem to mind.

“I'll see you at dinner then,” Kris said as she walked out of the washroom. “Yes Master,” the lady bowed her head slightly. “You better hurry it up, Kali.” Kris's voice echoed back but she had already disappeared down the corridor.

Dan finally got to his room, and he undressed himself and headed to the shower that's connected to his room. He set the water to cold before stepping, and was automatically washed thoroughly. “Damn, didn't realize it until Miss Jesse said so…” Dan cursed under his breath as the machine shampooing his hair. “I hope she's not going to tell it to Kris, otherwise I'll never hear the end of it.” Dan finally got out of the shower and stepped into the drier to dry himself.

“What took you?” Kris asked him as he walked into the dining room. “I was taking a shower, okay?” Dan replied crisply, standing in his t-shirt and sweat pant. “You know that you need to take a cold shower after taken the stabilizer pill, right?” Kris said, munching on a piece of carrot. “Yeah,” Dan pulled out a chair and sits across from her. “Good…” Jesse said, smiling at both of them as Kali brought up the foods. Kali then sat down next to Kris, and silence befalls upon them throughout dinner. After dinner Kris insisted on helping Kali cleaning up, and Kali protested only to no avail and give up on trying to talk Kris out of helping her. Dan noticed that Kris is in no mood to talk about the case, so he'll just have to wait until tomorrow then.

“So, how's your first day in the field rookie?” Jesse asked, sitting in a comfortable chair sipping her tea. “Seeing the aftermath of a feast twice, and haven't throw up once? I say pretty good,” Kris said after a long thoughtful pause. “Sounds like you're enjoying it,” Dan said quietly. “Actually, I enjoy insulting you the most.” Kris said, sipping her tea. “Why you little…?!” Dan got up and was about to punch the lights out of Kris. “Dan! Calm down,” Jesse ordered him in a very calm and collective manner. “What goes around comes around Kris. What goes around comes around…” Dan managed to balance his voice quickly. Kris didn't throw back anymore of her remarks, but she only blink several times in trying to focus her vision on the room around her. It was no good; her visions got blurry and then pitch black, which was when she passed out on the couch next to Kali. Kali quietly moved Kris's head on her lap and played with the sleeping girl's hair as the others sit in awkward silence.

“Kris already gives me info on the case, and I've already put it into the data bank to run for a match or so we hope,” the dangerously blonde hair lady finally broke the silence. “Does she always sleep like that?” Dan asked Kali. “She has been like that for the past couple of days now, and her complexion seems a bit paler than usual.” Jesse replied before Kali have time to say anything. Suddenly, her pocket link went off with a delightfully soft hum, Jesse pulled it out and turned on the device as a small holographic screen projected in front of her. “From what the data bank pulled up, it might be some kind of military test subject going haywire. We're not sure about it, so I want you and Kris to take a drive up to the High-Town and paid a visit to the Neo-Pharmaceutical conglomerate.” Jesse said after studying the information on the screen for a while.

“But…” “I am sure that you don't want to drive up there, but this is an order.” Jesse waved her hand in dismissing any protest he might have to say. “But what does the NP have to do with these incidents?” Dan finally got his words out. “NP not only produces medicine, they also have an underground laboratory studying certain type of genes or more like viruses. Scientists from all over the world gather there, even the nutcase ones as well.” Jesse said dryly. “Um… Kris's parents own that place, and it might be a bad idea to let her in on this case then.” Dan said in an almost whispered tone. “Yes, but they're not her real parents, they're only her adopted parents. As you can see, there are no resemblances of her to them whatsoever.”

Kris awaked about half an hour 'til her wrist's alarm went off, only to found herself staring up at Kali. Instead of sitting straight up like she normally does, Kris rolled over and landed on the floor. “Ow… Shit!” Kris cursed under her breath as she pushed herself up. She rushed to her room to wash her face and get ready for work. Coming out of the bathroom with her spiky hair held up by the gel, Kris undressed quickly and put on her gray cargo pants that Kali had it lay out on the bed for her. Carefully pulling the white t-shirt over her head and then tuck it inside the pants, she could hear Kali moving behind her holding a long sleeve shirt in her hands, though not sure what color she's holding this time. Kris let her hands slid up the sleeves and Kali fold the shirt's collar for her, and this time it is a light baby-blue colored shirt. Kris put the shoulder holster on and fastened it quickly, checking to make sure that the two magnum guns are in its place. Kali then pulled a gray jacket over Kris. Kali then walked out with Kris to the kitchen to have breakfast as she filled Kris in on things, and the time on Kris's watch is now five a.m. sharp.

“For someone who said that this is a dead end job, you seem to get up pretty early for the case.” Dan said, taking a sip of his coffee and a bite out of his sandwich. His hair is neatly tied back as always, but instead of his usual trench coat look; he's in a suit this morning. Kris ignored his comment as she sat down and eats her bowl of rice with roasted fish, that was her tradition and she liked to have her rice at least once a day. Dan, however, is only a quarter Chinese and he were raised up in a more of anything that is edible are good, type of way.

Kali cleaned up and give Kris her cup of tea as soon as she finished her rice, and Dan find it to be a bit weird somehow. Not that Kris seemed to mind it one bit, and he really think there is something totally wrong with Kris too. “You know? We didn't have to go until seven or eight, because those people on the High-Town don't start things until around that time.” Dan said taking another gulp of his coffee. Without say anything, Kris walked out to the couch in the living room and lay down for a nap. Once again, Kali's lap become pillow for Kris's head and Kali don't ever seemed to mind at all about it, she seemed more content than minding it.

Dan smoothly got the car out of the gates and down the quiet morning street; they exit into the elevating highway where fuel-cell cars passed them by. After a long drive, Dan exit into a lift and waiting to reach the High-Town in seconds. Coming out of the lift, they could feel the sunlight on them as they headed towards NP. Passing them by was nothing but high maintenance electromagnet cars that use no gas, so no polluted air on this level. Dan hasn't felt much sunlight on him since he moved to Mid-Town almost three years ago.

“Rich people are different…” Dan mumbled under his breath. “It's not like your family doesn't live up here…” Kris said wryly. “Point, and so is yours.” Dan grinned at her. “That's why I didn't say anything,” the Asian girl said grimly. “Don't worry cuz, I'll back you up…” Dan said as his grin widen. “More like I'll back you up than you back me up,” Kris remarked as they stopped in front of a mansion. “Why are we here?” Kris asked cynically. “Visiting the parents before crashing into their place is always the best procedure,” Dan said as they got out of the car with Kris hauling a heavy looking backpack. “For you, maybe… I haven't seen them in years, since they shift me off to boarding school.” Kris grunted as she hauled it over her shoulder. “You still despised them for sending you to boarding school, don't you?” Dan asked in a worry tone. “Nope, I love them more than you can imagine.” Kris murmured under her breath.

Kris pulled out a blue card key and inserted it into the lock pad, and after the light switched to green the heavy double doors opened up to her slowly. “Oh, welcome home Ojou-sama.” An old butler in his fifties bowed at the sight of Kris. “Akitsu-san,” Kris bowed at him slightly and so does Dan. “How are my parents, Akitsu-san?” Kris gestureed at him. “They are at a meeting, milady. Shall I call them to let them know that you're home along with young master Daniel?” Akitsu nodded at Dan in acknowledging his presence. Kris held her hand up and replied grimly, “I'm here strictly on business only, so there's no need to alarm them of my presence. Is Jerek-niisan doing well?” “Jerek-sama has been quite disturbing of late.” Akitsu said as they walked together to her room and then part with her from there and walked on with Dan.

Throwing the bag down on her old bed, a bed that she hasn't seen in so many years, still looked exactly the way it was when she left. Taking out her guns and unload the clips to check on the bullets, she's making sure it is the way it should be. Suddenly, a soft knock on the door echoed, making Kris loaded up her guns again and put it back to where it belonged.

“Yes?” she maintained her cool demeanor. “Ojou-sama,” Akitsu's voice softly echoed from outside her door. “Please come in,” Kris quickly moved to the door and opened it up for the old man to come in. “Thank you, Ojou-sama,” the old man bowed slightly due to his old age. “Jerek, my older brother…” Kris paused for a long thoughtful moment. “How is he disturbing?” the question that plagued her mind from before was finally being said.

“Young Miss, Jerek-sama…” old Akitsu let out a heavy sigh, as he sit down on a chair near Kris's bed. “Since you left for boarding school many years ago, Jerek-sama studied day and night to achieve top grade in everything. Not long ago, he finished school and now run the NP, and without the consents of the Master and Lady…” he paused once more and let out another heavy sigh. “He did something behind Mother and Father's back?” Kris asked without a bit of surprised in her voice. “Yes,” Akitsu nodded his head. “Jerek-sama secretly opened an underground lab, and created a type of drug that can manipulate a person's gene into something monstrous…” silent once again befall them.

“I see…” Kris said thoughtfully. “I will fully look into this issue, and will remove anything that poses as a threat to our family. My dear brother will not be any different, if he violated the family's rules.” Kris's voice becomes cold as ice and sharp as a razor. “Akitsu-san, please keep such problem from my parents. This shouldn't be something to worry them,” Kris turned to face the old butler whom she had known since she was a child. “As you wish, Ojou-sama. I do hope nothing unpleasant will befall this family,” Akitsu bowed at Kris before leaving her room.

Kill him; he is your enemy... A strange voice echoed in her head. Kris shook her head, thinking that she was clearly hearing things. Kill Jerek… He will cause you nothing but pain and grief… Kill him, and protect your fragile heart from his evil scheme… Kill him… The voice kept on growing louder and louder as seconds passed by. “He's my brother… so shut up…!!!” Kris growled at herself. He is no brother of yours… the voice hissed at Kris. He is a murderer, and he has no heart… he twisted your friend's gene… he used her to rid of you… Kill him… The voice now howled inside of her soul. The voice was so strong that it begun to deafening her ears, to a point that the poor soul passed out on the floor.
