The call he'd received from Derek had definitely caught Jason off guard. He had been sitting in the guest room, playing around with the ring tones and backgrounds on his phone, just waiting for Shane to get back when his cell phone rang.
When the situation was explained to him, Jason could hardly believe what he was being told. He'd never even had thoughts of Shane, or anyone he knew getting hurt. He started to wish he hadn't put off taking Shane back, or at least trying. If Shane died, then what? He would die the ex-boyfriend of the prude, confused teenager that wouldn't forgive him. Jason scratched the back of his head and sighed, suddenly remembering why they'd broken up in the first place. But right now, that didn't matter; all that mattered was Shane and whether he was going to make it.
Derek said he was coming to pick him up and bring him over, as well as something about a motorcycle and directions from Tony. Jason wandered as he waited if he should have called Teresa and Raj to let them know, just in case they cared. But though he thought about it, he didn't move to act on it, chances were neither of them really cared. Teresa obviously didn't like Shane, and he wasn't sure about Raj either. He was missing both of them somewhat but it wasn't something he wanted or needed on his mind at the moment, he was already frustrating himself with more important problems. One of which being the whole incident with Clark, but as urgent as it may have been, he'd pushed it to the back of his mind.
It wasn't long before he both saw and heard a motorcycle pull up in front of Shane's house. He was up and out the front door in a flash, hurrying down the driveway with worry apparent on his face.
“Marty called me on the way over, he says Shane's in the emergency room, it's hard explaining the situation but the doctor thinks he'll be okay if they can get the bullet out,” Derek explained once Jason was close enough to hear him. “He's coming back to pick us up, so you'd better get on,” Derek motioned him with a nod to sit behind him on the motorcycle. At any other time Jason would have been hesitant to get on such a small bike with this particular person, but at the moment the thought hardly crossed his mind and he was on in a second.
“Hold on to me, try not to fall off,” Derek grinned back at him. He smirked to himself as he felt the arms wrap around him, it was more innocent and less aggressive than when Shane had done it, Derek liked it that way. He wet his lips once and then started up the bike, pulling a U-turn and heading back the way he came.
Jason's hair never seemed to hold a decent position unless he tried his ass off to make it stay how it was. By the time they arrived at Marty's, it was sticking out in every direction. He could feel it too, but he knew from experience that smoothing it down wasn't going to do much good and right now he didn't car. Derek just chuckled when he saw how much it changed, but could only think about how much worse he could have made it look if he ever got that boy into his bed.
The door was unlocked, as usual and Jason simply walked in, he didn't know where most halls lead but he knew where the kitchen was and headed there. He honestly just wanted to get away from Derek, who hadn't given him a look that wasn't perverted since they'd met.
He ran into Tony on his way, who was backing out of the bathroom with a light blue towel in his hand, it was stained red with what other than blood.
“Hey, if you would have played for the right side I wouldn't have had to shoot you,” Tony looked amused as he waved a finger into the bathroom. The two exchanged glances when Tony noticed him and then Jason looked into the room. There were two men he'd never seen before. One, with blond hair had no pants on while the other, who had red hair, was pressing another bloodstained towel against his lower leg.
“Fuck you, Tony, it's not funny,” Paine said without looking up. “Go get some gauze or something, he'll have to see a doctor for stitches eventually,” He flipped the towel over to use the other side.
“Derek told you about Shane?” Tony asked, Jason turned his head and nodded. “He'll be okay, all right?” He patted Jason on the shoulder and then turned around, headed into the kitchen. Jason turned back to look into the bathroom.
“Who are you?” Roy questioned and Paine looked up at him. Jason was close to answering until both of Paine's eyes were in full view. He stepped back a bit and his jaw dropped out of reflex. Paine rolled his eyes and simply looked away, thinking maybe it would stop the guy from looking so dumbstruck.
“Uhh…” Jason swallowed. “I'm Jason, Shane's boy-boyfriend?” He could've slapped himself for that one. But that was most likely the title he was known as to these people.
“Oh, him,” Paine grumbled. Tony had mentioned Shane getting shot, and he was proud to admit that he hoped he didn't make it. “I feel sorry for you, what's he pay you to stay with him?” Paine kept his focus on helping Roy now. Jason crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow, wondering what he had against Shane. Perhaps the same thing everyone else did, that he was a whore? Just the thought running through his head made Jason want to be defensive.
“Actually, we broke up,” That was all he got out, but he said it in the rudest way possible.
“Ha, well I can see why,” Paine was running out of places on the towel that weren't stained, but he could tell the blood lost was slowing.
“You shouldn't move the towel around so much,” Jason stepped in. He was thinking back to when he got shot in the leg and what Shane had said about damaging healing that had begun. Paine just gave him a funny look so Jason got down on his knees beside him.
“Look, just hold one on there, and when it gets soaked, get a new one. If you hold it there a long time and then try to take it off before it's closed up, it'll kill whatever healing started,” Jason pushed Paine's hands away and started to do it himself.
“I don't think it matters now,” Roy cringed, Jason was pushing a lot harder than he would have liked. “The bleeding is mostly stopped, if I lose anymore I think I'm going to faint,” Roy already felt a little dizzy, as well as nauseated not to mention the pain in his leg.
“How do you know so much about it anyway?” Paine was scowling at him, and Jason hardly noticed.
“I got shot once, this is what I was told,” He shrugged. Just afterward Tony showed up in the doorway. Jason turned to him and raised an eyebrow, there was some kid on his back holding a roll of white gauze and saying things into Tony's ear as Tony laughed.
“Nathan!” Paine was on his feet in a moment and Nate's expression turned to fear. “This whole thing is your fault! It's your fault Randy's dead! And all you can do is tell jokes? I should kill you for this!” Paine stomped forward. Nathan hurriedly jumped down off Tony's back, dropping the gauze and backing against the wall.
“Hey! Back off Cyclops, he didn't do a damn thing, this is Randy's fault and you know it, so sit your ass down!” Tony stepped forward as Paine stepped back, turning away. Jason stayed out of it, picking up the gauze and removing the towel. Roy was unflinching as Jason started wrapping his leg in the fabric, his focus was on Paine.
“What the hell are we supposed to do now that he's dead?” Paine complained. “We have a house, but we barely have any money left, this is bullshit,” He grumbled and kicked the doorframe. “What's he gonna do? He needs stitches, which means we need money, where the hell are we supposed to get that? I don't even know Randy's account number or password, you shit heads screwed us,”
“You screwed yourselves, quit whining,” There was a voice from a little ways down the hall. All attention was turned to Marty as Tony moved back so he could get in. “We're going to the hospital to see Shane now, we'll take him with us. You're paying for the stitches but if you don't wanna be reduced to hobos on the street you're staying with us. Any objections?” Marty looked at Paine, as the question was directed at him. Paine just stared blankly back at him, he wanted to kick the guys ass right then but that wouldn't have been his best move at any time.
“I don't give a fuck,” Roy chimed in as Jason stood up. “Just get me the hell out of this bathroom,” he tried pushing himself to his feet. Paine took Roy's struggling as an excuse to get away from Marty's unreadable expression and reached out a hand to help him to his feet.
“Tony, get in the car, I want you in front so I don't have to sit next to either of these assholes,” Marty headed into the kitchen to get a beer.
“Wait, I don't want to leave Nate back there with them either,” Tony followed.
“Have him sit in your lap then, hope we don't get pulled over,” Marty shrugged and cracked the can open. Tony just grinned widely and strode into the hall again, taking Nate by the arm before he could say a word and lifting him up to carry him.
Nathan giggled and put his head on Tony's shoulder, leaving a sloppy kiss on his neck.
By the time they arrived at the hospital, Derek had hit on Jason three times, Paine and Marty were not speaking due to a fight over directions, and Tony and Nathan had just finished a hot make out session in the front seat in the midst of trying to ignore it all. Roy was just slouching next to Paine with his arms crossed, looking only half as annoyed as he actually was.
“You two,” Marty pointed at Tony and Nathan as they got out of the car. “You two had better keep your hands to yourselves in the waiting room,” With that he was headed for the entrance, expecting the others to follow but not really caring whether they did or not. Tony and Nathan exchanged grins, holding hands as they walked. Derek had his arm over Jason's shoulders and was asking random questions that Jason barely heard. He was too busy trying to inconspicuously back out of Derek's hold. Paine was just behind them, helping Roy walk; though Roy kept saying he was fine.
“Is Shane Fulmer available for visitors yet?” Marty asked at the front desk. The woman that sat behind it smacked her gum and turned toward her computer, looking up the name she'd been given.
“Not yet, shouldn't be long now though, you can wait over there,” She pointed to a room full of chairs, tables and magazines. Marty grumbled to himself as he headed that way, he hated hospitals, and most of all, hated waiting rooms.
Tony sat down and Nathan sat on top of him, Marty sat next to them, and Paine one seat away from Tony on the other side. Jason quickly rushed forward and sat between Tony and Paine, just so Derek couldn't sit near him. He slouched when Derek gave him an insulted look, which quickly turned into a smirk and he sat next to Marty. Roy was at the front desk, explaining his situation, grudgingly as they'd all left him to do it himself.
Marty was keeping an eye on Tony and Nathan, he really didn't need them getting kicked out for public affection; they were already getting a weird look from the guy that sat across from them. So far it wasn't a big deal, Tony bounced his leg out of boredom every once in a while and then Nathan would giggle, which made Tony laugh and start bouncing even more until Paine shushed him. This went on for about ten minutes before they were told they could see Shane.
Jason sprang to his feet immediately to follow her the nurse to his room, the others at a less enthusiastic pace.
As soon as he was let in Jason rushed over to the bed where Shane lay, his eyes half open.
“Hey,” Shane smiled widely; Jason was by far the person he wanted to see most. Jason smiled back at him and nodded, he wanted to hug him but he contained himself, having no idea whether it would have hurt him or not.
“We're pretty certain he's gonna make it,” The nurse implied. “As long as he doesn't get up and start jumping around, he should be fine once the muscles heal. He's very lucky, that bullet just barely missed his heart,” She smiled warmly and Jason nodded thankfully before turning back to Shane.
“Derek told me you were hurt,” Jason's voice was shaky as he pushed stray strands of hair out of Shane's face. “I almost pissed myself,” He choked a laugh. He was on the edge of crying tears of joy now that he knew Shane was okay.
“I'm fine,” Shane replied, putting on his best possible smile. “Did the other's show or is it just you and me?” He asked, somewhat suggestively.
“They're here, they're just slow,” Jason shrugged and pulled up a chair next to the bed. Shane looked like he was in pain, the expression on his face, the way he would cringe or grind his teeth every once in a while. For some reason it all made Jason feel so guilty, though he hadn't decided why.
“You…” Marty pointed at Shane as he came in the room. “…Are my hero,” He sat down on the side of the hospital bed and started bouncing up at down like a little kid. “Doctors are telling me you got caught in a drive by shooting due to a case of mistaken identity,” He wore a goofy smile as he reached up to give Shane a gentle pat on the head. “Good boy,” He pinched his cheek.
“Marty, you're weird again,” Tony rolled his eyes.
“I know, right? It's a fuckin' happy day, I'm aloud to be weird,” Marty started bouncing again, with a sudden urge to climb up the wall, but was soon reminded by the laws of gravity that doing so was impossible.
“This is how he used to be,” Tony explained to Shane who looked both confused and freaked out. “When I first met him, then somewhere along the way he got all annoying and depressed,” He smirked and Marty stuck out his tongue.
“Yeah, well you're ugly,” Marty replied. Shane rolled his eyes, wiggling his toes and wishing Marty would get off his bed.
“So how are you doin'?” Jason turned his attention back to Shane and his condition.
“Hmm, I could use a hug,” He gave Jason a pouting lip. He would have said kiss, as it was the first thing that came to mind, but he had no idea where Jason stood on that subject now. He decided to keep it to a minimum; he'd have better chances when he wasn't lying half-crippled in a hospital bed.
Jason rolled his eyes and leaned over Shane in the bed, wrapped his arms around what he could. Nathan and Tony exchanged quick glances and Marty winked at them. Completely oblivious to the suggestive thoughts going on around him in the heads of the other inhabitants of the room, Jason stepped back.
“I'm good,” Shane nodded with a smile.
“Oh, Shane, by the way, Derek has the hots for this one,” Tony pointed at Jason.
“Derek has the hots for everyone,” Jason stepped in before Shane could say a word; he didn't like the subject, and didn't want it to become a discussion.
“Where is Derek anyway? Still slacking off?” He asked.
“Hey!” Derek just happened to be walking through the door. “I'm right here, there was this really hot nurse and I got distracted,” He explained.
“I rest my case,” Jason concluded.
“Paine's with Roy, I swear those two are secret lovers,” Derek scoffed.
“You wouldn't if you knew Paine like I do,” Marty replied. “He's sexophobic.”
The five of them kept Shane company for an hour and a half before they gradually began to voice their boredom. By around five o'clock Tony, Nathan, and Derek were practically begging to leave. Marty finally gave in and got up to go when they threatened to leave without him.
“All right, come on Jason,” He stood up from the windowsill with a sigh and motioned Jason to follow.
“Uhm, I'm gonna stay here I think, I anyone's willing to give me a ride later?” He looked at the four of them hopefully, but it didn't seem like many of them were willing.
“All right,” Tony sighed after a long period of silence. “I will at seven, you two have fun lying around,” he waved. He wanted Jason to have a chance to be alone with Shane, had a feeling that if they sorted things out they'd find out they belonged together.
Both of them seemed to be somewhat avoiding the subject of relationship status through out the two hours they spent talking. Not only that, but the two day time period that they had been dating had been deliberately pushed out of the conversation by both of them at one time or another. For the most part the conversation was pointless, a lot of the time they spent telling each other random dirty jokes they knew. Poking fun at one another, or bringing up small laughable happenings from the past. The more they talked the more Jason began to think about how they really hadn't known each other for very long, but by this time Shane was the only person he could confidently still call his friend.
It was six forty-five when Jason realized Tony was going to be there soon, and also decided that if Shane wasn't going to say anything, he was. He didn't want to procrastinate anymore, if he didn't do it now, who knew what could happen to either of them that would stop him from ever saying anything at all.
“So,” He began after they'd both stopped laughing about how desperate Tony and Nathan seemed to be for each other. It seemed like an okay time to bring it up, as they were already on the subject of relationships. “What about us?” He asked, nervously rubbing his hands over one another in his lap.
“Huh?” Shane looked at him in askance. Jason gave him a serious look and Shane was immediately clear as to what he was talking about. “I don't know, what about us?” He shrugged. Jason looked down in his lap, Shane didn't sound very assuring, and he definitely didn't sound as needy as Jason felt.
“I mean, what are we?” Jason continued. “Or what do you want us to be… I don't know, I just thought…” His voice trailed off. Shane just stared at him, he'd been apprehensive about showing any signs of still wanting Jason back, or mentioning it. He had the idea that if Jason was ever going to really forgive him, he'd do it on his own, did this question mean it had worked?
“What exactly are you asking me, Jason?” Shane smiled, speaking in almost a formal way. Jason glared at him, giving him a `you know exactly what I'm asking you' look. Shane laughed under his breath and sat up a little, facing the other boy and scooting closer without a word. Jason froze stiff, knowing this was it, he leaned in too, putting a hand on Shane's shoulder to pull them together.
“Excuse me,” The door was opened and the light from the hall entered the room. Their lips hardly and inch apart, Shane and Jason both turned toward the door, both with the dear caught in headlights expression. “Oh,” The nurse looked down at her feet and blushed deeply. “I'm sorry, I was just going to tell you that your friend is waiting downstairs to pick you up,” She swallowed and stayed silent in that spot for a moment, then she nodded quickly and left, hurrying down the hallway like she'd seen a ghost.
“Dammit,” Shane fell back and through an arm over his eyes. The moment had been completely ruined. Jason sighed and stood up from his seat, he too wasn't really in the mood anymore.
“I'll see you whenever, call me when they let you out, I'll come pick you up,” He said, backing toward the door.
“Sure,” Shane replied, “Shouldn't be too long,” He shrugged. Jason nodded and waved, and then turned toward the door to leave. Once the door was shut, that was it. One thing had been made for certain though; they both still had feelings for one another.
Shane called Jason just the next morning and said he'd been told that he'd be able to go home after one more night. The two arranged that Jason would pick him up at ten AM, and then they'd go out for fast food. It wasn't officially a date, but it was the closest thing they'd have until they sort things out, and it would have been harder to do that over the phone. They said simple friend-to-friend good-byes and then hung up.
It was Friday, which meant not only was Shane coming back tomorrow, Teresa and Raj would be coming home too. It would have been awkward, seeing as neither of them knew or cared about any of what was going on here. Not about the break-up, about the cheating, about Clark…. Teresa was going to explode when she found out about him. In some ways Jason felt lucky, though, that she was turning out to be the only one that cared, Raj most likely wouldn't, he'd never liked Clark. As for the others they'd just brushed it off when they found out, either as an `oh well' or a `good riddance.' He couldn't help but wonder if Mr. Bates knew…
Jason had been watching TV and reading all day, just waiting for the day to end, he could have visited Shane, but he felt it would have been too awkward. After the night before he felt it was good they had a break from each other to really sort everything out. Jason was pretty certain of what he wanted, and that was Shane, but the thought of him doing it again kept kicking him in the head the more he thought about it. He was relieved when his phone rang, hoping it was someone he could talk to.
“Hello?” He answered; he didn't recognize the number that showed up on his caller ID, which was a bad sign.
“Hey you, aren't you lonely over there?” It was Derek. Jason slouched and wrinkled his nose, considering just hanging up right away. “Either way…” Derek continued when Jason didn't answer. “You should come over here, we got pizza and pop and shit, Marty and me are watching Die Hard but he's boring,” Derek scowled at the man on the opposite side of the couch. Marty kicked him and he let out a loud `ow' through the phone.
“Dick,” He grunted. Jason raised an eyebrow and continued to stay silent. “Not you, him,” Derek said. “So, I can come pick you up or you can sit around there all night and do nothing,” He shrugged, taking a large bite of the supreme pizza, chewing awkwardly as he awaited an answer. Jason sighed and looked at his watch, it was eight PM, and he wasn't anywhere near tired, there was nothing on TV, so he figured why not? As long as someone besides Derek was there to protect him from Derek's perverted ways.
“All right, sure,” He shrugged.
“Yay!” Derek said enthusiastically, “I'll be there in ten minutes!”
“Derek!” Jason yelled before he hung up. Derek put the phone back to his ear and waited. “Please come with a car this time, otherwise I'm not coming” Jason then hung up the phone. Derek grinned happily and hurried out to the garage to get the car.
“I'm bringing Jason over here to keep him company, don't start it without me!” He yelled. Marty rolled his eyes and shoved a pizza crust into his mouth.
Jason was relieved to see a black SUV pull into the driveway, despite his request, he wasn't so sure that Derek would listen to him. He walked at a casual pace, his hands in his sweater pockets as he approached the car. Derek looked him over twice in appreciation when he passed in front of the windshield. He leaned his head on his hand with his elbow propped up on the window, watching with a smirk as Jason climbed into the passenger seat of the car. Jason was wearing a dark green zip-up Abercrombie sweater with a white shirt under it, and camouflage colored jeans. Jason didn't really stand out as an overly attractive person to Derek. He had obvious zits here and there on his face and there were a few dark hairs on his chin and upper lip, only visible to those who were really looking. Jason was just average, but Derek was clueless as to how this kid made average look so good.
“Damn cute,” Derek murmured as he pulled out of the driveway. Jason shot him a death glare and Derek grinned wider, seeing it from the corner of his eye.
“Well you are,” Derek shrugged. “It's the cold hard truth, I can't help noticing, and well, you can't help being so fuckable…” Jason cringed at that word, hoping that Derek was aware he had no intention of being `fucked' for a very long time. “I guess we'll have to live with each other though, won't we?” Derek concluded. Jason rolled his eyes, he didn't have to go anywhere near Derek at any time if he didn't want to. But he wasn't aware that Derek was nowhere near allowing that to happen.
Derek was surprised that Marty actually waited to start the movie, however, he hadn't been so generous with the pizza. By the time they came back there were only two pieces left. Derek kept the fact that he himself had only had one piece and let Jason have both.
“Tony and Nate still refuse to join us?” Derek asked as he plopped down on the couch.
“Yeah, they're up their fucking like rabbits, I think Tony's gonna take it up the ass one of these days,” Marty replied. Jason scowled, trying to ignore the conversation and walked slowly over to the one-person chair.
“Hey, my chair,” Marty through and empty can at him. “No one else sits in it,” He crossed his arms. Jason stared finding it hard to believe he was actually serious.
“You're not even sitting in it!” He argued.
“Yeah well I bought it, you're lucky I let you sit on my couch, which I bought,” Marty stuck his tongue out and Jason just grunted. He took a seat in the center of the couch, further from Marty but not too close to Derek. Marty hit the play button and practically cuddled with his pillow, scrunching up on his side of the couch. Jason sat still, fidgeting with the loose fabric of his pants; he knew Derek's eyes were on him, he could just feel that he was being watched. He waited through one preview before he got fed up with it.
“Could you watch the movie, please?” He requested. Derek smirked and tore his eyes way from the boy next to him and fixed them on the screen.
Near the end of the movie, Jason had curled up and fallen asleep on the couch. And not long after he'd shifted positions in his sleep and was leaning his head against Derek's shoulder. Derek made a `pst' noise to get Marty's attention and Marty turned his head. Derek was smiling like an idiot and pointing at Jason's head on his shoulder. Marty gave him a half-hearted thumbs up and rolled his eyes, turning back toward the movie.
After it ended, and Jason had slipped on arm around Derek's own, it was 10:30 PM. Derek yawned and looked at the boy that clung to him, he had a mind to fall asleep there as well, maybe they'd wake up in some kind of kinky intimate position on the couch. But he put the thought aside and got up, picky Jason up as well. Derek smiled at how light he was, how frail and breakable. Derek had never preferred one sex over the other when it came to the bedroom, but lately he'd been more focused on boys, one in particular. He knew that Jason and Shane still had `things' for each other, but technically Jason was single at the moment, and it was worth a try. It had been a while since Derek had actually dated anyone, in fact, almost two years; he didn't come across a lot of people that were worth spending more than one night with.
He carried Jason up to the room in which Don used to sleep and lay him down on the unmade bed. He removed his jacket and shoes, for more than the sake of undressing him and put them on the chair in the corner of the room. He smiled at the way Jason curled up with the blankets as soon as they were pulled up to him. He sighed and left the room, flipping off the light and closing the door half way.
Jason yawned and stretched one arm into the air as he woke up. Today was the day Shane got out of the hospital, and for that reason alone, it was a damn good day. He rubbed his eyes and started to roll over to look at the clock… but he couldn't, he couldn't move at all. Becoming a little more awake he blinked and bent his neck up to see what was holding him down. Shane was there… on top of him! Hugging him around his chest like he wouldn't ever let go. Jason squirmed underneath him in confusion and poked his shoulder.
“Shane!” Shane made a sexy squeak noise and buried his face in Jason's back. “Shane!” Jason said a little louder. Shane mumbled something to himself and then looked at the boy beneath him. He smiled in greeting, his hair looking perfect like it had just been brushed, and his eyes bright and awake. “What are you doing… you…you're not supposed to be…” a finger was placed over his mouth and he stopped speaking.
“Shut up,” Shane growled, using the sexiest voice Jason had ever heard. His breath hitched as Shane inclined forward, lips parted, eyes shut…
“Hey!” Jason's eyes snapped open to the sound of Derek's loud voice in his ear. He had been yanked back into reality and found immediately that the whole thing had only been a dream. A damn good dream too, but thanks to Derek it ended too soon.
“Shane called, you're supposed to pick him up, wanted to make sure you didn't forget,” Derek said. “You can use our car or whatever,” He was drinking a can of vault. Jason wrinkled his nose, vault in the morning didn't sound good to him at all.
“Yeah, thanks,” Jason looked at the time and saw that it was nine forty-five, he'd have to take a shower later, he'd be late if he took it now. He didn't have much to do before he left, seeing as he had no changes of clothes and no other personal things either. All he had was a hairbrush Derek had let him borrow and an unused toothbrush. Shane wouldn't mind if he wasn't in top shape, at least he didn't smell. He was relieved to find that he hadn't slept in his jacket; at least he had something less wrinkly to wear. Wow. He really did feel gay thinking, or even caring about all of this stuff.
He was caught by his wrist just as he left the bathroom and pulled back.
“You're leaving already?” Derek asked. Jason had hardly been awake for ten minutes.
“Yeah, I'm supposed to be there by ten,” Jason jerked away from him and continued toward the stairs. Derek thought a moment, he couldn't let Jason go anywhere with Shane. That would lead to the too of them getting back together, Derek had to at least try before it was too late. He hurried over and took the boy by the wrist just before he stepped down the stairs and pulled him back.
“What the hell you ass, get off me!” Jason attempted to pull away but Derek roughly pushed him against the nearest wall and he couldn't move.
“Jason,” Derek said firmly. “Go out with me,” He demanded, stamping his foot.
“What? Jason was shocked, he could tell Derek had the hots from him, maybe even wanted to fuck him, but he was asking to date him?
“I'd be so good to you,” Derek calmed and he put on his more charming face. “I won't cheat, I promise I'd never hurt you like he did, I would pressure you or anything, please baby,” His voice was soft, wanting, bittersweet but not desperate.
Jason was somewhat moved by this, it was unexpected and even kind of cheesy, but he liked it. All Shane had ever done was joke about wanting him, even after they were already dating, it was almost unreal. It may have been less awkward and dramatic when Shane brought it up, but this was definitely more real. He didn't know that Derek was even capable of being so persuasively alluring, but apparently he was. Then Jason thought about it a bit more, Derek was the guy who'd succeeded in pissing him off on all three of the times they'd met. Not to mention, they barely knew each other, and most of all, Jason wanted Shane. Then again, when he really thought about it he still wasn't assured that Shane would never hurt him again. And until Jason brought it up Shane didn't seem very interested in him lately as a boyfriend anyway. He kept giving himself more and more reasons why and why not to date Derek, but when it came down to it, he still wasn't sure. Derek had really been just an annoying prick to him until that moment, but now that he was being faced with the decision, he had to admit that he did like Derek a little.
“Jason, please answer me,” Derek interrupted his train of thought and Jason stared up at him still thinking it over. He hadn't ever looked passed Derek's annoying personality, but he was good looking, in a dirty badass sort of way. Seeing the look on the man's face, and realizing that he was being somewhat rushed, his mind reached a verdict.
“Okay,” He said. After all, he could always go back on it later if it didn't work out.
A/N- RAR. This chapter took waaaayyy too long… the beginning was so messed up I kept re-doing it and re-doing it and for about a week I just ignored the whole thing xP. Sorry `bout that :/. But either way, one more chapter to go :D.
Also, this chapter is longer than usual, I actually want to change my minimum of 12 pages a chapter to 15, seeing as some of my past chapters have been too short to fit my liking :P. But at the same time I'm going to be a little more open to shorter chapters if they are necessary. So I think book two will most likely be a little more well written.
Sneak preview-
“Look, Shane. I haven't been totally honest with you,” Jason began. Shane ignored him and headed over to the sink to get a drink of water; that was a mistake. “I'm dating Derek,”
As soon as the words reached Shane's ears the water spurted out of his mouth and splashed against the window above the sink. Shane started gagging and choking, much of the water had gone down the wrong tube. “Are you an idiot?” He coughed out the words so that they were barely understandable.
Hope this chapter was okay for you, and I hope I can have the next up soon. :P
