Thanks to Derek insisting on a hot wet first kiss, Jason was late to picking up Shane. All though he proudly admitted that Derek was a damn good kisser. He didn't really have the memory to compare the two, but very possibly even better than Shane.
Shane was standing outside the door that was labeled `physical therapy', talking to a guy in a doctor's suit that had the build of a football player. He was now wearing a button-up plaid shirt, unbuttoned so his tanned chest was showing and the bandage on his stomach apparent. Jason was already beginning to regret his actions, seeing Shane's sincere smile, and excited wave, he was obviously happy to see him. Still, it wasn't up to Shane who he did and didn't date, and Derek had gained Jason's full trust, something Shane had lost and still really hadn't gotten back. Even now Jason was still deciding who would be a better match for him.
Shane waved to his physical therapy doctor and headed over to Jason, greeting him with a simple “hi.” Nothing else was said until they were in the car.
“I am glad to get out of that place,” Shane gave him a goofy, totally oblivious smile as he opened the car door.
“That bad, huh?” Jason mumbled only for the sake of acknowledgement.
“Horrible, the therapist was the biggest homophobe I've ever met. He never found out I was gay but he had me do these crunches and he would never shut up. If he wasn't accusing me of stretching like a fag he was talking about how his ex-girlfriend turned out to be a fag. And I'm sorry, I may be a fag, but I don't stretch like one. Assuming by saying fag he meant femininely,” Shane sighed and slouched as once he was in the car. “I'm surprised I survived,” He slammed the door shut. Jason let out a nervous laugh before starting the car.
“He was lucky I didn't kick his ass,” Shane grumbled. “So what about you, how's life in the real world?” The tone of his voice became more cheerful after an irritated sigh. “Haven't seen you since my first night.”
“Uhm…same as always, no big changes,” Jason swallowed. He couldn't help but cringe at the mention of that night. They'd come inches from kissing, made it obvious that they still liked each other, how was Shane going to take it when he found out Jason was with someone else?
“Good,” Shane smiled. “Just the way I like it,” He pulled a bottle of Pepsi from the plastic bag he had and took a drink. “Derek still been hitting on you?”
Jason froze up immediately but managed to get out a simple “Yeah…”
“That pervert, as long as he doesn't try to rape you or anything,” Shane scoffed. Jason noted the defensive tone he was using.
“Heh, well that wouldn't work out so well,” Jason didn't realize until after it was said and done that he may have hinted something he didn't mean to. “I mean, since I killed the last guy who tried to rape me,” Good save, except you just made a joke out of killing an ex-friend, asshole. Jason's conscience taunted him. Not to mention, Shane wasn't very aware of the details of Clark's death.
“Mhm,” Shane shrugged, thankfully not very interested in the subject anymore. Nothing more was said for a while until they passed a car with a black Labrador retriever hanging its head out the window.
“You like dogs?” Shane asked in an off-handed manner, leaning back in the seat with a sigh.
“They're cool,” Jason shrugged. “I used to have a German Shepherd Mutt, when we first got him I swear he was the cutest puppy you've ever seen,” He smiled, glancing over at Shane just as Shane let out a groan and shifted his position. He saw the bandage on Shane's stomach and frowned, as long as it was there he knew it was going to keep reminding him that Shane had nearly died.
“It's not that bad, you know,” Shane said. Jason's eyes snapped back to the road. “The shot, you were staring, they over did it with the bandages,” He nodded, pulling the shirt over it so it couldn't be seen. He sighed again and shut his eyes, he really just wanted to take a nap in his own bed, and eat some real food. Jason simply nodded and kept his attention on the road, sweaty hands gripping the steering wheel.
“I've always wanted a Chihuahua,” Shane yawned and hugged himself, curling up against the car door. Jason watched him from the corner of his eye with concern, he didn't think the doctors would have been inaccurate with their judgment on when to let him out, but he still seemed somewhat bad off.
“We still planning on getting lunch?” Jason asked. Shane forced his eyes open and rubbed them, trying to cover up the fact that he was falling asleep.
“Um, yeah,” He said quickly. “Sure,” He sat up straight, cringing when he felt a sting in his side.
“You sure?” Jason couldn't help but notice the obvious doubt in Shane's voice, he was going to be in enough trouble with Shane soon enough, he didn't really want to go unless Shane did.
“Uh,” Shane rethought his answer, given the chance. “On second thought, I'm kind of tired, I guess we could order something later though if it's okay with you?” He yawned and let his eyes fall shut again. Jason nodded with the desire to bang his head on the steering wheel. The more he thought about it the more he didn't want to tell Shane about Derek, maybe he just wouldn't. Maybe he would get lucky and Shane would lose interest in him before he had to… but did Jason really want that?
Once home, Shane headed straight up to his room after announcing that he was going to sleep.
Jason called Derek a half an hour after Shane went to bed. His original intention in doing so had been to get his mind off the whole issue, but Derek just had to go and ask Jason if he'd told Shane about it yet. And Jason just had to promise that he would.
“I just know he really likes you,” Derek had said. “But I want him to know as soon as possible that you're mine.”
Jason liked the possessiveness in that statement, but the next one discouraged him.
“For the time being, anyway,” Derek had added. After hearing that Jason made his best excuse to hang up the phone, saying he had to go start dinner. In reality he sat there on the couch with a headache. The fact that he'd accepted Derek's request was making everything so confusing. The only thing that was certain was that he knew he didn't regret it.
Jason was making a sandwich when Shane came down the stairs, looking as if he was ready to go to a party or something. His hair was in a different style than usual, the middle was spiked up with jel and the back and sides hung straight down, the longest strand barely going below his nose. Some of it was in his face and Jason couldn't help but notice that he looked exactly like someone straight out of a Shojo manga, not that he read those anymore. His clothes were unusual too, he always wore pants that were slightly tighter than the average `boy pants' but these were almost feminine, which really just wasn't Shane at all, but that didn't change the fact that he looked good in them. The white tank-top and the black jacket only added to it. When he was able to tear is eyes away the only thing Jason could think was that Shane was going to be twice as hard to resist now.
“No comments?” Shane grinned practically strutting over to him. Jason turned back and just stared as he had been before, partly in question, and also in attraction. “Heh, that's okay, your eyes say enough,” Shane jumped up on the counter and started swinging his legs. Jason blushed and looked down at what he was doing, putting the top piece of bread on his sandwich.
“Are you going somewhere or something?” He asked.
“No, I took a shower and I was drying my hair and when I was done I realized how sexy I looked and started messing with my hair. These are Nat's pants,” Shane laughed and hopped down from the counter, he reached a hand into the bag of cheese that Jason had out and took a slice.
“Well Shane,” Jason laughed. “You are definitely gay,” Shane laughed along with him, finishing the cheese in one bite. “You look like you're going on a date or something,” Jason added, nervously, unsure if it was his best move to have said that.
“Well I could be,” Shane's voice softened, Jason could feel him getting closer and he froze. It definitely hadn't been a good idea to bring up the subject of dating. “That is, if you're free tonight, by any chance?” Shane was using the exact same voice that he had in Jason's dream, the one that practically made Jason melt. Only it hadn't been real last time.
Before he could reply, Shane had somehow coaxed him into turning his head and was leaning into him with a slightly open mouth and shut eyes. Panicked, Jason gasped, jumping back just before Shane would have captured his lips in his own. He pushed Shane away as he did and flew back so far that he found himself against the well.
“Shane,” He breathed heavily, unsure of what he was about to say. Shane looked confused, and even a little hurt it seemed, Jason just wanted to die.
“I'm sorry,” Shane swallowed after just staring at him as if he were trying to read the boy's thoughts. “I'm sorry, I just thought… oh… fuck, I don't know what I thought,” Shane jerked a cupboard open and took out a cup, filling it with water from the tap. He'd thought that because of the night at the hospital, because they almost kissed, because they'd become so close, it meant Jason had forgiven him, and more. In fact, it should have, he didn't understand why Jason was pushing him away all of the sudden, there was no question, he'd been into it the other night. Jason had always been so damn confusing, giving off these mixed signals, it was hardly something Shane could deal with.
“Shane,” Jason swallowed. Shane didn't pay very much attention to him, bringing the glass of water up to his lips. “I haven't been completely honest with you,” Jason stiffened at what he was about to say, watching Shane take a gulp of the water into his mouth. “I'm dating Derek,” He cringed at his own voice. As soon as the words registered in Shane's brain it hit him like a fist to the stomach and the water that was in his mouth spurted out, splashing against the window above the sink. Jason just stared, he'd expected a negative reaction, but that wasn't exactly what he'd had in mind. Shane was gagging and choking on the water that had gone down the wrong tube, but Jason didn't feel he should have done anything but stay where he was.
“Are you an idiot!” Shane coughed, words barely audible, but Jason heard him. It hit him hard too, not that he'd expected support, but even though he knew it was coming it hit hard.
“He asked me out, I said yes, seems logical to me,” Jason shrugged, keeping the defensiveness to a minimum, though it was still apparent in his voice.
“I can't believe you,” Shane scoffed, finally able to breath correctly again. “He's your stalker, you don't date your stalker!” He hollered. “Christ, you heard him on the phone, hasn't he shown off his perverseness enough for you yet?”
“Maybe I like him, you don't know anything, you weren't there,” Jason growled. “You don't have any right to say anything, I only told you because I thought you deserved to know, maybe I was wrong,” Jason walked out, little did he know Shane wasn't going to let it end there.
“You can't date him!” He yelled, being extremely blunt in his opinion.
“Yes I can, I can date whoever I want, and it shouldn't matter to you, unless you're jealous or something,” Once again, Jason tried to walk away, and once again, he was pulled back. Physically this time.
“Yes! I am jealous, Jason ,” Shane grapped his shoulder and jerked him backward. “You know I'm jealous, you know I'm fucking in love with you, why the hell are you doing this to me!”
“I'm not doing this to you!” Jason yelled back.
“All he wants is sex,” Shane insisted.
“And what the hell did you want?” Jason asked. “Sex! And when I didn't give it to you, you went off and fucked the first guy you found that would give it to you. I was here waiting for you to get back, watching the damn clock because you said you'd be home at five! And when you finally did come back you probably had his semen all over your ass! I'm sorry that I don't want to be with someone that would rather fuck some random asshole than be with his boyfriend!” Jason threw his arms in the air and with that he was stomping towards the stairs. He really hated to bring the subject back to where it was, but he'd blown up, and ended up saying whatever came to mind.
“It wasn't like that,” Shane began, coming after him after a short pause. Jason just continued up the stairs. “It wasn't like that, Jason! I wanted to come back, all right! I was looking forward to it, the whole time,” Shane followed him. “But then something came up that was my responsibility, and then Marty… and I just lost control, how many different ways do I have to say that I'm sorry!” Jason paused with his hand on his doorknob and shut his eyes in dismay. He'd never wanted it to come to this, in a lot of ways he knew he was being a jerk, for leading Shane on the night at the hospital, and now cutting him down. Shane probably realized this too, but at least he hadn't used it against him yet.
“I'm so sorry, Jase,” Shane's voice was right beside him now. “Please, please don't do this to me now,” He wanted to touch Jason, somewhere friendly like his shoulder or arm, but he held back just because he didn't want to get too close.
“Shane, I'm not doing this to you. I'm not trying to hurt you, I'm sorry, but all of the sudden I realized that I liked Derek, I want to try with Derek. This was never about you and me and what happened,” Jason turned his doorknob and pushed the door open. Shane sighed and decided to leave it alone now, there was really nothing more he could say. One thing was on his side, though, he knew that Jason and Derek would never last together, it was only a matter of time. Unfortunately, Shane was sick of waiting. Really, really damn sick of waiting...
Just before the door would have clicked shut, Shane jumped forward and shoved it back open, grabbing Jason from behind as soon as he was in sight. Jason let out a surprised squeak and basically froze in that position while the situation registered. Shane pulled Jason into him, hugging him closely with his faced buried into his boy's neck.
“Fuck you, Jason,” Not wanting to give Jason a chance to say a word, he placed his hand under Jason's chin and roughly turned his head backward so that the faced each other and crushed their lips together. Jason was trying to pull away, eyes wide and scared, but Shane wouldn't allow it, he kept their lips firmly pressed together. He sighed, sliding his tongue across Jason's lips, wanting to be let in. For some reason, when Jason felt that soft amazing tongue requesting entrance, he opened his mouth. There was no hesitation, no objection, he just parted his lips and let Shane's tongue slide into his mouth. His eyes fluttered shut and he let out a low moan as Shane practically devoured his mouth, teeth clanging against his, and he was enjoying every minute of it.
He could feel Shane's hips rubbing against his abdomen and whined, only to be squeezed tighter in Shane's grasp. Shane was holding him with the intention of never, ever letting go, kissing him more passionately than he knew he knew how. Jason was just falling into a world of pleasure and even if he had any desire to get out of it, he wouldn't have been able to.
Unfortunately, coming back to reality was hell. As soon as Shane's mouth left his, and he was released, all he could feel was regret. Regret that he'd kissed back, that he'd enjoyed it so much. It was as if when Shane kissed him, his emotions of guilt and remorse had just shut off, shut off so he could just enjoy it while it lasted. But now that Shane was gone, and he literally was gone, no longer even in the room, Jason felt horrible. He'd cheated, cheated on Derek before they'd even got going. He was a cheater and he knew without doubt that because of who he was, he would never be able to tell Derek, or apologize. He just didn't have the courage, so Derek would never know.
“Tony?” Jason's voice sounded almost as if he'd been crying when Tony picked up the phone.
“Yeah?” Tony tried using his most sympathetic voice, a sad Jason probably meant that things hadn't gone well with Shane, which mean Shane probably wasn't too happy either.
“Can I talk to Derek if he's there, sorry, yours was the only number I had,” Jason asked, running a hand through his hair.
“Sure, hang on,” Tony was up in a second and out of the room, leaving Nathan, who was lying next to him reading a book, clueless as to where he was going.
Jason sighed, waiting for Derek to come on. After the kiss Shane had shut himself in his bedroom with the radio playing softly and lights off. Jason could only assume that he'd gone back to sleep, but regardless of what he may have been doing, Jason just wanted to leave him alone for a while.
Tony practically ran into Derek when he hit the bottom of the stairs and shoved the cell phone in his face. Derek looked at it for a moment and then at Tony as if he were insane.
“It's Jason,” Tony said. Derek snatched it away from him immediately with a slight smile and put it to his ear. Barely noticing when Tony hopped back up the stairs.
“Hey baby, what's up?” He said cheerfully, Jason was able to put on a comforting smile when he heard Derek's positive voice.
“Hi, can you come pick me up and bring me there by any chance?” He felt a little unsure, asking Derek for a ride, after all they'd barely been dating seven hours. He could have asked Shane for his car, but he doubted that Shane would have been happy about Jason ditching him to go hide at Derek's. He just didn't want to risk starting another fight.
“Sure, baby, are you all right, you sound upset?” Derek asked. Jason smiled again at his thoughtfulness, he was already beginning to like when Derek called him baby, and he'd done it in just about every sentence he'd said so far.
“Shane and I were fighting, I'll tell you about it when I see you if you want, right now I really just want to get away from here,” He wiped away the tear that had begun to form in his right eye.
“Aw, okay, I'll be right there,” Derek made a kissing noise in the phone and then hit the end button.
Jason sighed and sat on his bed, staring down at the cell phone in his hand. He was glad he finally had someone to turn to again, if this had happened a day ago he wouldn't have known what to do. There really hadn't been anyone on his side beside Shane, anyone that he really felt comfortable asking favors of. Now that he knew Derek at least cared about him, maybe even just a little, he felt like everything was going to be okay.
Derek showed up on his motorcycle in front of the house and Jason couldn't help but roll his eyes. He'd been watching out the window for an SUV, it hadn't occurred to him that Derek would have been driving something else.
“I should have known you'd bring this if I didn't specify the desired method of transportation,” Jason said, running his finger across the side of the cycle.
“You should've,” Derek grinned, reaching out a hand and messing up Jason's hair playfully. “I hope you don't expect me to go back and get the SUV, because I've been looking forward to having your arms around me on this thing again, and this is as good as it gets,” He patted the spot behind on the seat and gave Jason a playful poke on the forehead.
“You're so damn cute,” He leaned forward and kissed the other boy's lips gently, lingering there for a few seconds before pulling back. Jason's cheeks were flushed and he was smiling from ear to ear in embarrassment. He said nothing as he climbed onto the back of the motorcycle.
“So, J, what happened?” Derek had brought Jason into the house and guided him up into his room. (Jason didn't have any objections to this, he was confident that Derek would at least listen when he said no.) Then he'd sat them both on the edge of the bed and took Jason's hand in his own. That's when he decided to call Jason J, which wasn't half bad a name when Jason thought about.
“Well, he wasn't very happy when I told him about us, he basically told me all the reasons I shouldn't date you… and then we started yelling and… it just got out of hand,” Jason shrugged. “He was really, really mad, I kind of feel bad,” He sighed.
“He'll get over it,” Derek gave him his best smile and pulled him into a hug. “I probably don't know him as well as you do but he didn't seem like the type to hold on too long, seeing as… what he did,” His voice slowed.
“Can we not talk about that?” Jason snapped.
“All right, babe, if you say so,” Derek shrugged. Jason sighed and pressed his cheek against Derek's chest, feeling him breath in and out.
“I like when you call me that,” Jason mumbled and nuzzled against him, scooting a little bit closer. He really just wanted to be held, to be held by someone who would listen and call him baby.
“What, babe or J?” Derek smirked, Jason looked up at him in thought.
“Both, I guess,”
“All right, Baby-J,” Derek joked, petting Jason's messy hair. It had been nice before the ride, but when they arrived it was all blown around and messed up. Derek had to keep in mind that motorcycle rides aren't very nice to Jason's hair. Jason sighed against his chest for the second time and Derek just couldn't resist. He put two fingers under Jason's chin and tilted his head up to meet his eyes. Slowly he leaned down and captured his boyfriend's lips in his own kissing him gently. Jason complied and pressed back, sub-consciously placing a hand on Derek's thigh.
Jason wined in pleasure when Derek deepened the kiss, squeezing the boy's shoulders, massaging them with his palms. The moment Jason's lips parted Derek shoved his tongue in and started to roughen it up a bit, but keeping it slightly more gentle than usual, he'd always seen Jason as an overall fragile person. He really didn't want to hurt the boy.
Jason allowed himself to fall back onto the bed as Derek pushed him down and crawled on top of him. The pair squirmed their way up the bed until Jason's head was rested on one of the pillows, lips never parting. Jason wrapped his arms around Derek's neck, whining in protest as a hand slipped down the front of his pants. Derek didn't stop because of it so Jason forced himself to push the man off of his mouth so he could speak.
“Derek,” Jason pulled the hand out of his pants. “I'm not ready to go very far, I don't know if you were aware of this, but I'm a virgin,” He shrugged, trying to calm his heavy breath. Despite the fact that it had been just a kiss it had gotten pretty hot, he himself was becoming slightly aroused, but he wasn't going to let it control him.
“You are?” Derek looked surprised, which really wasn't a good thing. Jason was starting to fear that Derek really had only been in it for sex. “Man, I never would have guessed, you're so cute I thought for sure someone must have gotten to you already,” Derek sat back, straddling Jason's waist as he ran a hand through his hair. Jason said nothing, he was just waiting, waiting for Derek to tell him that it wasn't going to work, waiting to be rejected.
“All right then, I'll have to keep my dick in my pants for a while then,” Derek shrugged. “It's cool though, like I said I won't pressure you, the kissing is good enough for me,” He smiled. Jason could hardly believe his ears, he'd hoped more than anything that Derek would have been okay with it, but he never expected him to be.
“You thought I was going to kick you out of my bed, didn't you?” Derek leaned closer, chuckling into Jason's ear. Jason almost nodded but squealed instead as Derek bit down on his lobe. “I'm not like that, there's a lot you've probably heard or assumed about me that isn't true. I'm not the way you think I am,” When Derek said that Jason was immediately reminded of some Fall Out Boy song he'd heard a while ago, Pretty in Punk. He smiled and leaned into Derek's touch as he felt kisses trailing down his neck. Things with Derek were going great, but his relationship with Shane was another story.
Regardless, Jason felt like he'd finally found the right person, someone he liked, and someone he could trust. Just being there with Derek made things okay, even though he'd eventually have to smooth things over with Shane, he was perfectly okay.
Just as a smile appeared on Jason's face Derek pulled away from his neck and placed a short, sweet kiss on his lips.

A/n- Yuss. It's over… I'd make a longer author's note but I'm pissed off now because I had one ready to go when MSW crashed and I lost it. I don't feel like typing it again. So yeah, no author's note for you this time. Except that there is going to be an epilogue to clear some things up, but technically this is the end.
Oh, and I'll reply to reviews on the Epilogue… I also had those written out but once again MSW killed them. Too mad and tired to do them over.
