[ Y - Young Adult: Not suitable for readers under 16 ]
The twins were now 5 years old, and Mari and Alder were starting to worry about their little girl and boy. They thought that what they did when they were one year old was just a phase, but they continue to do it over the years, and over the past 4 years it seemed to get worse.
Jade had become more of a tomboy to the point where she had started making her voice deeper when she talked so she would sound like a boy or boy of her age. She would refuse to play with anything that was girly, though she would put up with stuff animals. She like her hair short, but in the boyish style otherwise she wouldn't have it cut at all and just let it grow out and be messing. She didn't like baths either, and prefer to be dirty. She preferred to go to sporting good stores with her father, and look at all the guns. She also called Jaden her sister.
Jaden on the other hand tried is best to get a high voice like the girls of his age had. He acted very sweet and kind, compare to Jade who was very rough and insulting. He would wear jeans, but they had to be jeans for girls and not boy, same with shoes; yet he preferred skirts and dresses. He didn't like to have his hair cut short; he liked it long and styled, like a girl no less. He didn't like to be dirty like his sister, which he didn't get. Why would someone want to be dirty like that, it was gross in his mind. He love bubble baths, it was one of this favorite times of the day or every other day. He loved to go clothes shopping with his mother. Jaden called Jade his brother.
Their parents just let them be, not knowing what to really do about their kids. What really hurt is when people asked about it, or didn't let their kids near them because of the way they were. Their family thought it was odd, some didn't like them, but the family one their father's side didn't care, that side thought it was a little cute.
Yet that was the least of Jade and Jaden's parents problem, the main problem was when Jade and Jaden started school in 6 months. What were they going to tell their teacher, and headmaster? Would they allow something like this? Yet this didn't seem to bother Jade and Jaden like it did their parents. To them they were normal, and anyone who tried to change them were their enemy.
*First day of school*
Alder what watching Jade dress, making sure if she was getting it right. He was always to make sure that Jade dress, because she didn't like her mother doing it, because her mother wasn't like her; her mother was a girl.
" Did I get it right, Daddy?" Jade smiled at him. Jade had put on her favorite jeans that were ripped in the knees, and black shirt.
" Yes, Jade," He said, nodding his head. His little girl was a fast learner, and he was scared for her when she fell in love with someone, guy or girl. She could get hurt.
" Daddy, call me Jaden!" Jade whined, a boyish whine.
" Sorry, I forgot," Alder smiled at her, kissing her forehead.
" EWW!!! DADDDY!!!" Jade pushed him away. " That's gross."
" Do you really think that mother is going to tell the headmaster that your name is Jaden not Jade?" He asked out of curious. He was taking this better than his wife was. She's been worrying and going into depression for years over this, feeling like she didn't do something right. It was nothing she did.
Jade looked down sadly. " No....Mommy doesn't like when we act like this....Does mommy hate us?"
" Oh no, Jaden!" Alder exclaimed, getting down to Jade's level. " Mommy doesn't hate you, or Jade. Why would you think that?"
" Because I heard her talking to Grandma Clare.....Jade and I both did..." Jade looked down. What she and her brother heard hurt them so much.
" What did you hear?" Alder worried, he knew that his wife's side of the family really didn't want anything to do with him or his children. They blamed him for the way they were.
" Mommy said that she wished that she would have had an abor...abor...abortion," Jade tried to said it, having a hard time with it. She saw her father's face pale. " She wanted to, but didn't because of you. She said that she...was...."
" Oh Jaden!" Alder pulled his little girl close to him and hugged her tight. " Jaden, you know I'll love you no matter what right?"
" Yes daddy," Jade nodded. She liked how Daddy called her Jaden and Jaden Jade. He understood them; he let them be themselves no matter what they looked like waist down. Yet he was careful not to call Jade Jaden and Jaden Jade around mommy, cause she would get mad. She got mad before. " Mommy...hates...us."
" Brother! Are you almost yet?" Jaden came running into the room and stopped, sensing that his sister was upset. " Brother?"
Alder looked up at his son, seeing that he was worried. " Yes, we're almost done."
" What happened, Daddy? Why is brother upset?" Jaden asked innocently, going and hugging Jade.
" We'll talk about it later, when mommy's not around," He whispered, for he heard that his wife was coming.
" Okay, Daddy," Jaden smiled kindly, then went and helped his sister collect her things for school. " Are you excited, brother?"
" I guess," Jade sighed. She didn't really want to go to school. She's watched TV where kids went to school and it didn't look that fun, other mommy didn't like her watching that stuff, daddy let her watch it anyways.
" Um...okay," Jaden said, handing his sister his book bag. Hating seeing her like this, it put him in a bad mood.
" Is everyone ready?" Mari asked them.
" I guess," Jade said grimly, not looking at her mother as she walked passed her.
" Yes, mommy," Jaden faked a bit of a smile, and followed his sister.
" Alder, what's wrong with them?" She asked looking at her husband, who was trying not to glare at her with hate filled eyes.
" I don't know. Jade might just be a little nervous," He faked a major smile.
" Alright, well I can't go with you guys. My mother needs me to help her with something, and I can't just leave her hanging, ya know," She said, hoping that he and the kids wouldn't be to upset that she couldn't go.
" But it's their first day," He huffed a bit, kinda glad that she wasn't going.
" I know, I'm so sorry," She said, giving him a kiss. " You'll just have to sign the papers alone, I guess."
Sign the papers alone? He thought, liking the idea of her not being able to go even more.
" All right, Hun, just...if they are to upset when they get home, tell them you're sorry," He kissed her back.
" Sure, bye," She said, and waved as he started to walked down the stairs.
" Bye," He said back, not looking at her like he usually did. He was mad at her, but he didn't show it.
When he got to his car, which was a black Escape, the kids were already in their car seats and waiting for him.
Jaden looked up. " Where's mommy?" He asked when his daddy got in the car and started it.
" She has to help Grandma Clare with something, so she won't be there," He said, thinking that if he looked in the rearview mirror he would see Jaden's sad face, but when he looked they were both smiling.
" That means you're going to do with papers?" Jade said, smirking coldly.
" Yep," He knew what his little girl was thinking, and he was going to do just what she was thinking. " Sure am."
" Can you sigh me as Jade?!" Jaden asked, as then went down the drive way and into the road.
" I was planning on it, we just can't tell mommy," He winked at them.
" Alright!!" They said, happy now. Their daddy was so cool it wasn't even funny.
Once them walked in through the huge double door the twins stared in wonder. Everything was big, and the walls were cover with artwork, pictures of students and staff members, and the places that weren’t covered were painted white. The looked at the doors that lined the walls, as well, and there were very few lockers.
" Like what you see?" Alder said, seeing their faces.
" It's so big!" Jaden said, a little nervous now. What if someone didn't like him?
" So many things, pictures, door...." Jade said, still looking around. She would never remember where everything was.
" Guys, come in here." Their father's voice broke through the twins’ thoughts. He was holding open a door that said ' office'
" Sorry, daddy," Jaden and Jade said following him in.
A sweet looking girl was sitting behind the reception desk. She smiled at them.
" Well looks like we have some little additions," She looked up at Alder. " They are adorable children, are they twins?"
" Yes they are, and very excited about their first day," Alder smiled at her.
" I see," She nodded getting some papers out, and handed them to him on a clipboard and a pen. " Fill these out for me, and I'll get you the list of their teacher, and times of lunch and recess."
" Thank you very much," Alder said, taking the things from the girl and sat down in the one of the leather chairs. " Jaden, Jade sit down and be still for daddy" He addressed them oppositely of course. They did as daddy said, and sat down. They watched him write and trying to read it. They could only make out a few things, wishing they could read more.
" You guys will learn to read and write, plus I'll help you too," He smiled at them.
" Okay, daddy," They smiled back.
Alder finished the paper work and handed it back to the girl behind the desk. She looked it over, and smiled.
" So this is Jade?" She pointed to Jaden. " And this is Jaden?" she pointed to Jade.
" Yes, ma'am," Jaden said. " I'm Jade, and this is my brother Jaden." He hugged Jade.
" How cute, and such good names," She smiled, getting the list of times for them. " This is your teacher, and the time for lunch and recess. Have a nice day you too." She waved as they started out the door with their father.
" Bye!" Jaden waved back.
" Jaden, what room is your teacher in?" Alder asked Jade.
She looked at the paper, looking at the number trying to read it. " Um....three oh two....I think"
" That's right, Jaden," he smiled at her.
" Oh, okay, daddy," She smiled, she was proud of herself that she could read a little bit. Her brother could read better than she could, a lot better.
Alder smiled and he held their hands, trying to fine the right room. He was curious about their teacher. Was their teacher a he or she? Would they be good, or bad? Would them ever find out that Jade and Jaden like to be the opposite gender and not tell anyone about it? He wondered, hoping that the answer to all his questions were good and wouldn't give away what he did for his children.
" Daddy, this is the room!" Jaden shouted, pointed to the door that was covered in fall leafs that the other kids most have made for the season.
" Oh, thank you for pointing that our Jade. I would have passed it if you didn't," He smiled down at his son, who smiled back brightly. When his son dressed like a girl he couldn't tell that he was a boy anymore, so maybe no one would figure it out. " Who wants to knock on the door for daddy?" He said, but the twins just looked at him with nervous eyes.
" Wow guys, don't jump all at once," He chuckled, knocking lightly on the door.
A woman about the age of 22 opened the door; she looked at Alder then down at the twins and smiled. She had beautiful blue eyes, and long strawberry blonde hair.
" You two must be Jaden and Jade?" She said cheerfully. " Well, I'm sure you're going to have a fun time in my class this years. Are you two excited?"
" Nervous," Jaden gave a sweet smile, glad that she was calling him Jade, and his sister Jaden.
" I see, well that is normal. Starting school is a very big deal," She said, and then looked up at Alder. " You are their father right?"
" Yes, ma'am. Sorry that my wife couldn't be here, something came up," He said with a nervous smiled. He didn't really want to start leaving his kids here. He'd miss them when he went home for lunch.
" Aw, that's too bad," She pouted a little. " Well my name is Ms. Juno. Is there anything I should know about the twins?"
" Yes, um....Don't separate them at like naptime. Jade gets nightmares really bad without her brother sleeping beside her. And with Jaden just make sure that you have paper and pencils. He loves to draw," Alder smiled kindly. " I hope that isn't to much to ask?"
" Of course not! I want them to have a good time here, and I'll do whatever to make that so," She smiled. " We're just about to eat breakfast, do they eat breakfast?"
" Yes, do you have dounuts?" Jade asked, with a slight smile. She was starting to like Ms. Juno.
" Sure, what kind you like?" She smiled at her.
" Chocolate," Jade said, then looked at her brother. " My sister likes the same, with milk."
" Okay, I think we can arrange that." Ms. Juno smiled at the twins.
Alder bent down, and hugged his twins. " You two be good for Ms. Juno and be nice to the other kids okay."
" Okay daddy," They said. Jaden didn't want daddy to leave, but he would cry about it later, not wanting to look like such a baby around new people. Jade was okay, but really nervous.
" See you when I pick you up, alright? If you need me call mommy or me. I left the phone numbers with the headmaster," He said, fighting back tears. When did his little twins get so big?
" Alright," They nodded, and started into the class with Ms. Juno, waving one last bye at Daddy, who waved back.
Ms. Juno closed the door, and then looked at the twins. " You guys can sit where you like, okay?"
" Okay," Jade said, her and her brother looked around the room. There were a lot of kids their age. They had started to eat, talking about their pets, mommies and daddies and what they did for work. Jade didn't see anyone that she really thought would like her.
" Hello?" A girl said from behind them, cause Jaden to jump and cling to his sister.
Jade turned to face the blond, who smiled at her. " Hello."
" I didn't mean to scare your sister," She said, offering a chocolate dounut to Jaden. " Peace offering?"
" Um...thank you," Jaden smiled a little, taking it and started to nibbled on it.
" What are your names?" She smiled at them.
" I'm Jaden, and this is my sister, Jade," Jade said, feeling wonderful that she could call Jaden her sister instead of brother like she had to around mommy and mommy's family. " Jade is a little shy and nervous."
" That's okay," The girl smiled at them. " I just started today too, so I know how it feels."
" Okay," Jade nodded her head. " What is your name?"
" My name is Isabella, but my mommy and daddy call me Izzy. So you can call me Izzy too," She smiled at them.
" Izzy is a cool name," Jaden smiled at Izzy.
" It is," Izzy smiled. " Come sit with me and my friends." She took the twins hands and dragged them over to a table that had two seat left, which they sat in.
" Izzy who are they?" A boy asked. He had black hair and blue eyes, wears something similar to what Jade as wearing.
" This is Jaden and Jade, they are twins!" Izzy said all excited.
" Hi," Jaden waved.
" Hello," Jade smiled a little, but it was a boyish smile.
" Oh, I see. I'm Danny," He smiled.
A girl that was sitting to Danny's left smiled. " I'm Anna." She was a red head with freckles around her nose, and brown eyes.
A boy to her left said. " I'm Xavier." He was blonde like Izzy, with blue eyes that seemed to never stop shining.
" Xavier?" Jade said. That was a name that she never heard before.
" Yep, it's odd, but cool huh?" He smiled at her.
Jaden blushed and twisted a piece of his hair around his finger. " I like the name Xavier a lot."
" Thank you," He smiled at Jaden. There was something about Jaden that he liked.
Anna, Izzy, Danny, Xavier were instant friends with Jade and Jaden, but they didn't know that Jade was really a girl and Jaden was really a boy. The twins were glad no one ever found out, and glad that they had made friends so fast. For months of going to school it seemed the only reason they went was to see their friends now. They felt so wanted by someone other than their father and his side of the family. It was a great feeling that they hoped that it never left.
Jade had become more of a tomboy to the point where she had started making her voice deeper when she talked so she would sound like a boy or boy of her age. She would refuse to play with anything that was girly, though she would put up with stuff animals.
