Together We Stand

-Soon-

I have been here for six months. It feels like it's longer. I love it here. I love Mai-Pai. I love her kids. Come to think of it, I didn't have a plan when I first came here.

A knock came on my door.

“Yeah?” I asked.

“Are you up yet?” Mai-Pai asked. I mumbled as I turned over in my futon.

“Not yet,” I said. I pulled the sheets over my head. I wasn't ready to get up. No, just ten more minutes. I listened as she walked away from the door. I drew my eyes closed as I went back to sleep. It felt good to be home.

Heh. Home.

Sometime later, I heard the door open. I looked up to see Mai-Pai standing in the doorway.

“Yes,” I said. She walked over to my futon. I noticed the look on her face.

“Mai-Pai?” I asked. “Mai-Pai, what's the matter?” She sat down at the foot of the futon. She reached out for my hand.

“We need to talk,” Mai-Pai said.

“What?” I asked, narrowing my eyes. She looked me in the eye.

“Are you happy here?” Mai-Pai asked.

“Of course,” I said. “Why do you ask?” I could see the look in her eyes. She didn't have to say it. I reached out and touched her cheek.

“I'm not going anywhere,” I said. “I love you too much for that.” Mai-Pai stared at me.

“Are you…?” she began to ask.

“Yes,” I said. I pulled her into my arms. Looks like I made up my mind.

We called Be and Jin into the dining room. Mai-Pai and I sat across from them at the table.

“So… what is this about ?” Jin asked. Mai-Pari and I held hands.

“I'm going to the here with all of you,” I said.

“Officially?” Jin asked.

“I thought you already were,” Be said.

“Well… yeah,” Mai-Pai said.

“Are you okay with it?” I asked.

“Why wouldn't we be?” Be asked. I didn't know what to say. I bowed my head.

“Thank you so much,” I said. Mai-Pai kissed me on the cheek.

“Welcome to the family,” she said. Somehow, that was great to hear. I was home. This was my home now.
