Awkward Fix

-Friday-

Soon across from Hang in a small diner. Neither ex spoke. How did this happen? Let's back up for a little bit.

-Thursday Afternoon-

Mai-Pai and Soon walked around the town. She cuddled up to his side. Soon smiled at her. There's not much to do in town. Fine by them. They didn't want much. They didn't want much. The couple weren't young anymore. They weren't looking for thrills.

“Soon?” a woman's voice asked. The man froze.

“What is it?” Mai-Pai asked. Soon turned with his face to pale. Don't tell me

Soon turned his head. His heart jumped in his throat. How… How could it be?

A woman in a blue dress jogged over to the couple. Her dull brown braids bounced against her back. She waved him down. Soon didn't know how to react.

“Are you okay?” Mai-Pai asked.

“No…” he said. He walked over to the woman.

“Soon?” Mai-Pai asked. He walked up to the woman. They met halfway. He could only say one thing to her.

“Hang.”

“It's you,” she said. They stood in silence.

-Thursday Evening-

“Who is she?” Mai-Pai asked. Soon kept his head down.

“Hang,” he said. “My ex.” His wife looked confused.

“Your ex?” she asked. “What's she doing here?”

“I don't know,” Soon said. He rubbed his forehead.

“Oh boy…” he said. Mai-Pai touched his shoulders. He didn't look up. Mai-Pai had so many questions.

“Was it a nasty split?” she asked. Soon shook his head.

“She left and drove her away,” he said. The man lifted his head.

“She couldn't take how I was,” Soon said. “Hang did the best she could. I didn't even try to help her.” Soon sighed. Mai-Pai rubbed his back.

“Maybe you should talk to her,” she said. Soon stared at her.

“What? Why?” he asked. Mai-Pai shrugged.

“I don't know. Maybe get some closure?” she offered.

So here Soon was. He and Hang sat silent.

“How have you been?” she asked.

“Fine,” Soon said. “I'm married now.”

“Oh,” Hang said. “Who is she?”

“Mai-Pai.”

“Are you happy?”

Soon leaned back in his chair. “Yes.” There was a pause. Hang smiled.

“Good. I'm happy for you.”

“Thank you. What about you?”

Hang nodded. “Fine. I'm fine.”

Soon nodded. “Okay.” Both sat in silence. Soon opened his mouth to speak. Hang held up her hand.

“Ent,” she said. He tried again but she stopped him again.

“It's fine. I forgive you.” Soon closed his mouth.

“Really?” he asked. His ex-wife nodded. Soon blinked.

“Oh,” he said. She lowered her hand. They didn't talk anymore. His ex just drank the rest of her tea.
