Mai-Pai had her ear by her bedroom wall. She frowned as she
listened closely.
“Mai-Pai, what are you doing?” Soon asked next to her.
“Shhh,” she whispered. Mai-Pai listened again. Her husband sat up.
He leaned in to listen. The man squinted his eyes.
“What are we listening to?” Soon whispered. His wife frowned.
“There's nothing next door?” she asked. “Right?”
“Yeah…” Soon said. Mai-Pai frowned.
“Then… Why am I hearing noises over there?” she asked.
“Huh?” Soon asked.
“I keep hearing soft thud noises over there,” she said. She saw the
look on his face.
“I'm not making this up! I'm serious,” Mai-Pai said. Soon put up
his hands.
“Okay, okay,” he said.
“What is it?” Mai-Pai asked. Her husband shrugged. The woman
sighed.
“Sorry,” he said. His wife sighed and dropped her head.

Chiko sat in a nice sushi restaurant. This was her parents' idea.
They wanted her to find a good man. She tried to talk them out of
it. But no. They wouldn't listen. So here she was. Chiko fought
back the urge to cry.
I want to go home.
She looked at her phone. 6:28 p.m. Only five minutes? It didn't
feel like it. Chiko buried her head in her hands.
“Excuse me,” a man said. The woman froze.
“Yeah?” she asked.
“Are you Watabe Chiko?” he asked.
“Why?” she asked. She slowly lifted her head. This man was
beautiful. Black hair slicked back. He looked so tan. His teeth
were so white. That dark brown suit looked amazing on him. Chiko's
cheeks turned red.
“Yes!” she yelped. The charming man breathed out.
“Oh good!” he said. The man bowed.
“I am so sorry! I just got off of work!” he said. Chiko stared at
him dazed.
“Oh…” she said. She snapped out of it as she waved him off.
“Oh! No, no!” the woman said. “It's fine!” The man bowed his
head.
“Thank you so much,” he said. “I'm Lang Roco.” He sat down in front
of her. Chiko's face was so red. Maybe this wouldn't be a bad
date.

Mai-Pai couldn't let that house go. No lived there for two years.
So why the noise? She looked out the window.
“There's no one there,” Soon said behind her. His wife about
jumped.
“Gah!” she shouted. Soon had his hand up. Mai-Pai looked
flustered.
“I wasn't looking!” she blurted out.
“Uh-huh,” Soon said. She puffed up her cheeks.
“Shut up,” she mumbled. “Jerk.”
“What?” he asked. Mai-Pai was about to speak. Then the doorbell
rang. The couple froze. That can't be…
“You get it!” Mai-Pai hissed. Soon's eyes widened.
“What?! Why me?!” he asked. The doorbell rang again.
“Just go!” Mai-Pai said. The doorbell rang again. Soon dropped his
shoulders.
“Fine,” he said. He reluctantly walked to the door. Soon took a
breath and opened it. Sure enough, Pumpkin and Steven stood
outside.
“Good morning!” Pumpkin cheered. Soon nervously laughed.
“Uh… hi…” he said. The woman grinned.
“We're going to be your neighbors!” she said.
“We filled out the paperwork,” Steven said.
“We're going to live in the house down the street,” his wife
added.
“Really? That's great!” Soon lied. Inside, he was screaming.
