New People
Mai-Pai came home to a shock. There was a moving van parked in
front of the house next door. She looked confused.
“Huh?” she asked. When did this happen? Mai-Pai walked closer to
the van. Yep, that was a moving van. Mai-Pai tilted her head. Who
was moving in?
“Hello?” a woman's voice asked. Mai-Pai about jumped.
“Gah!” she shouted. She turned to see a woman about twenty years
old staring at her. Her hair came down to her shoulders. She had
her hands on her hips.
“Who are you?” she asked, frowning.
“Um… I'm Mai-Pai,” the older woman said. “I live over there.” She
pointed at her house. The woman looked over at said house.
“Hm,” she said. Mai-Pai nodded.
“Yeah,” she said. “Yeah. And you are?” The younger woman tossed
back her hair.
“Kiko,” she said.
“Oh,” Mai-Pai said. “Um… Nice to meet you.” She backed up to her
house. Kiko just stared at her. Mai-Pai made it to the door. She
unlocked it and rushed inside. The woman leaned against the door
panting.
“Mai-Pai?” she heard Soon saying. She looked up to see him coming
down the stairs.
“What's the matter?” he asked. She gulped and lifted her chin.
“They're here!” Mai-Pai yelped. Soon blinked.
“Huh? What are you talking about? Who's here?” he asked.
“The new neighbors,” Mai-Pai said.
“What?!” her husband asked.

Mai-Pai just had to know. Kiko was living with a man. They both
work black. The couple barely left the house. Mai-Pai looked out
the window. Soon frowned and shook his head.
“You're doing it again,” he said. His wife turned her head.
“What?” she asked. Soon said nothing. Mai-Pai frowned.
“I'm just looking,” she said. Soon rolled his eyes. Mai-Pai
frowned.
“Can't I look?” she asked. Her husband shrugged. She folded her
arms across her chest.
“Soon!” she said. He put up his hands.
“What? What do you want me to say?” her husband asked. “Go and talk
to them.” Mai-Pai stared at him. Her eyes grew wide.
“What?!” she asked. Soon shrugged.
“I mean… you keep looking out the window,” he said. Mai-Pai threw
back her hand and groaned. Her husband sat, waiting. His wife
dropped her shoulders.
“Fine,” she said.
“See? Was that so hard?” he asked. Mai-Pai rolled her eyes.
“Will you come with me?” she asked. Soon smiled and sat back.
“You know what?” he asked. “I will happily come with you.” Mai-Pai
stared at him.
“Right now?” she asked.
“Yeah,” he said. The couple stayed silent for a moment. Soon eyed
her for a response. Mai-Pai dropped her shoulders again.
“Fine! We'll go now!” she said. Soon smiled. He knew this was
coming. Mai-Pai turned and walked out the door. Her husband
followed behind.
